My mum, friend and daughter in law kept telling me this was a lovely place. Having driven 4 hours to stay at mum's the previous day I was looking forward to 5 of us getting together Wednesday just gone. The menu had a good variety of food, however the service left a lot to be desired. Despite having pre-booked for 4 people then changing it to 5 the table was still not set up properly when arrived with my mum. All of our plates from the main course were left on the table when dessert was served. Come on staff, you let both the eatery and yourselves down, spoiling my first experience of your establishment.

I am a fairly regular customer at this establishment and I have nothing but praise for the food and the service. Breakfast is very tasty and exceptional value for money. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and there is no scrimping on the portion size. If you want to step back in time and soak up some nostalgia, this is the place to go, it's got a really friendly, homely vibe and even the dogs are greeted with a fuss, a bowl of water and some treats. I would highly recommend this unique tea room.

When seated we asked what the soup was. We were told no soup in fact and very little else. Ordered a ploughman's and bacon and chicken sandwiches. The ploughman's consisted of 2 dry pieces of bread, a quarter slice of dry pork pie cut in two, 3 thin slices of cheap ham and a few lettuce leaves and 8 crisps. Sandwiches 2 slices of dry bread with çhicken and bacon. This disgusting meal cost £20.00. The ladies who were serving were really pleasant but embarrassed. Have never visited New Brighton before and will not be going back any time soon

As the Driftwood Cafe was closed we called next door for a drink, tea massively over priced at £2.95 for a mug , noted as Yorkshire Tea but was supermarket own brand teabag which was tasteless, the coffee, labelled as Cappuccino was very bad instant coffee with froth on top. Steer clear at all costs.

The “ home made” sausage rolls were like cutting through carpet. Definitely not freshly made, typically tasted like food that had been reheated over and over. Over priced food. Basic and tasteless, as well. Has definitely lowered its standards since the previous owner had it. We used to visit regularly, under previous owners, but not going again. Ploughman’s lunch……a variety of supermarket bits, thrown together. The pork pie was especially difficult to eat. The bread was dry , and not fresh. Makes me laugh to see the “ sausage rolls are flying out “ Not nice at all.

A choice of three cafes in a row and this one looked the most inviting. We couldn't have chosen better. Lovely atmosphere, welcoming friendly staff and a dog friendly establishment too. We both had the traditional breakfast and it was served freshly cooked, hot and nicely presented. With the addition of two doorstep slices of toast it was a filling and tasty breakfast and we have no reservations about recommending this place. Even the dogs felt relaxed and were greeted with a bowl of water and biscuits. A great start ro the morning.

We were 19 Danish students aged 15 and 4 adults who visited the cafe in the hope of a taste of Old England and we were not disappointed ! Everything from the quirky decor ( check out the loo!), service, atmosphere and not least a huge spread of an afternoon tea was first class. This was not just sandwiches and cake, but a total experience for our young people.

Booked here for afternoon tea as we’ve visited several time before and always been very happy. We Left very disappointed. Despite booking, it took 20 minutes for our order of sandwiches choices to be taken, and our drinks order. The service we received was very poor. The staff were not helpful and we were Mede to feel like we were an Inconvenience. Not the service we expected after visiting several times previously and being treated much better. There was a baby shower booked in after us, and it felt like the staff were more concerned with getting that “right”, than actually taking care of their paying customers who were waiting for their orders. Poor quality of afternoon tea and certainly feel like we were massively overcharged for the quality that we received. The cakes were majority chocolate based, which we don’t like but we weren’t given any options or told what anything was. There was no two cakes the same, despite being an afternoon tea for 6 people. It felt like we were just given the cakes left over from the weekend, rather than the luxury experience we were wanting and expecting for my dads birthday. Unhappy customers and unfortunately we won’t return.

After arriving 30 minutes early due to a wet golfing session our group of 7 were welcomed by a very polite young lady who showed us to are tables. Tea was ordered all round due to the unseasonably cold wet day. There was a quaint China tea service with the offer of a top up if needed and a choice of loose leaf teas. The food was really good and plentiful with a wide variety being ordered from our 2 tables with the friendly waitress inquiring if all was to our liking. went for afternoon tea, a gift from xmas. lovely warm welcome, handed menus and explained what to pick from for sandwiches. good choice of fillings. ordered, pot of tea brought to table. there is a lot to be to be said for loose tea. the best cuppa i have had in a long while. Didn't have long to wait before our food arrived. WOW, freshly prepared sandwiches and a feast of homemade cakes and even slices of quiche. sandwiches were delicious - i had chicken and bacon, cheese and onion. my companion had ham and cheese and salmon and cream cheese. the quiche was lovely and then came the cakes. i decided to have my scone, came with cream and jam. they had been freshly baked that afternoon. the person who had done them certainly had the magic touch, they were so light and melt in your mouth. unfortunately by then we were both full so asked for take away boxes for the remainder. this is definitely the best we have been to and we have been to quite a few for afternoon tea. will be going again. great staff. great food.

Terrible customer service. I rang to complain about the small amount of food I received in my tea for TWO. Only one slither of quiche and a tiny sausage roll, not enough to share, this unaccompanied the finger sandwiches and salad and a box of cakes, tiny piece of rocky road and sandwich cake, we had to share the cream and jam with our small scones. I paid £36 which did not justify the amount of food I received. The owner Lesley asked if I had received my free gift, a candle melt, which I didn't ask for and obviously couldn't eat! On trying to get my point across I was told that she was not a cafe repeatedly, which was not my point at all...but then why has she got a certificate for bronze "cafe" of the year 2019?? She continued to argue and shout at me as I was still trying to get a word in, before telling me she didn't give a sh*t and slamming down her phone. Very unprofessional and highly unrecomended!!!

I ordered a Mother’s Day afternoon tea. I’ve ordered from here before and it was good food but ridiculously overpriced. What I got in this one was a regular afternoon tea with a candle, melt and a tiny box of chocolates. I payed extra money for a few little add ons to the standard one. The food doesn’t explain the ridiculous amount of money for it. Also the portion size for what I payed isn’t exactly great either. The cakes were tiny, I got a small slice of rocky road, the same with the sponge with icing and two other slices of cake. For nearly £40 I’d expect more.

I ordered a flat white coffee off the drinks menu. The waitress brought me a normal filter coffee. I told her I had asked for a flat white and she said that is what they call a flat white. I had to tell her what one was and she replied that she didn't know what a flat white is or how to make one. I had to go behind the counter and tell her how to make one. When my sister's omelette arrived, it was crusty and almost black. You could not see any yellow bits. We asked for another omelette and the owner came to our table and started arguing with us that it wasn't burnt, it was well cooked. A replacement was brought and it was cooked properly. The yolk on my nephew's fried egg was barely warm. My bacon looked about 3 days old and was too hard to eat. I had to spit it out because it tasted funny and I was scared I would break a tooth. While I went to the toilet, the owner came back to the table to tell my sister again that there was nothing wrong with the dark brown omelette. She was adamant she was right and we were wrong. We gave up waiting for the bill after 20 minutes. When I reminded the coffee waitress that we were still waiting, she very rudely told me she was busy. I had to wait at the counter until she was ready to prepare the bill. I will never go there again, mainly because being argued with by the owner that we don't know the difference between well cooked and burnt. I know what burnt looks like and I do not like being reprimanded by the owner in front of other customers.

I don`t usually comment on Trip Advisor but could not let this one slip through the net, although having read other comments suggesting this tearoom is a great place to be, please bear in mind, I`m the one, sadly telling you this little business has its bad points too, I fell foul of this yesterday afternoon, with the owner who I believe her name is Lesley Ellis, who explains that she offers free delivery locally but refuses to travel two junctions down the M53 to deliver to Heswall, she was rude, to put it mildly with no apology suggesting that Heswall is too, too, far, four miles to be exact, if I wanted afternoon tea at home, that I should rustle something up myself. If this was not bad enough when I challenged her about her vile comments, she felt instead of trying to work out a solution, she decided to become threatening to inform me that she was going to contact my employer which she had obtained from my facebook.com account, who by the way is not in this equation what so ever, makes me wonder what is going in the cake and scones, never experienced such bad customer service in a long time. One good outcome people I now know there are friendly welcoming tea rooms elsewhere.

So my husband and I were recommended by a friend to come try this cafe,it says on their Facebook page they open at half 9 but it wasn't open till 10am, upon walking in we received a walk welcome and the cafe is done up lovely with all little trinkets, I wouldn't say it was spotless but it was clean. We ordered both ordered a traditional breakfast I didn't like beans or tomato I asked for extra mushroom if possible and poached eggs. When breakfast arrived we ordered extra toast as you only get one slice each with the breakfast. I have no extra mushroom and only the outer layer of the white on the egg was hard and the inside white layer was jellyish and uncooked, so I was not prepared to eat it incase I got food poisoning as I have a very week immune system. No one approached us to ask if our meal was ok till basically the end I explained the issue to the lady to which her response was well you should have asked for it well done. My reply was simply oh I'm sorry I thought when your specify how you want your egg it refers to the yolk. I said I assumed the white would come cooked. Also the server did not ask how I wanted the eggs. She offered to replace the eggs but we had finished our meals so i said no. We were going to purchase a vintage tea each too which was a scone and tea but after the lady's attitude I didn't feel comfortable we hadn't even finished the pot of tea we had but my I sent my husband up with money to pay and we swiftly left. I felt humiliated and embarrassed and my anxiety is through the roof I felt like I was stupid for assuming that the white on the egg must come cooked all the time but what do I know I'm just a customer I don't run a cafe. I'd avoid to be honest but it's up to you try your luck

Great little tea room just off the seafront in New Brighton. Me and my husband had the afternoon tea and it was great! The Victoria sponge and ham sandwiches were particularly good. Such a cute little qwerky place, will definitely be back :)

Just off the river front this lovely little tea room will give you a nostalgic blast from the past or a fabulous history lesson. The interior is adorned with pictures and artefacts from innocent times gone by when the beach was crammed with visitors. Tea served in china cups with proper leaves and a strainer has almost disappeared now but is such a nice touch. My seafood platter and my partner's sandwich were both very good and the staff are friendly and efficient. Even the bathroom is full of interesting period curios which will put a smile on your face! Cracking little place and such a different thing to do before a cinema visit.

Love this tea room - so reminiscent of my childhood. The food is marvellous and the staff are incredible. Love the mis-matched China which reminds me of my frankie's. It's in a part of New Brighton that is being regenerated so a wander up Victoria Road to walk off the delicious food worth it. All in all it's a visit not to be missed.

Yes, we first read about this special character tearooms on the other side of the world in New Zealand. So when we were close by, of course we had to go and visit. Top marks for experience - loaded with character and history, you don’t know where to look first. Every detail, right to the toilet at the back of the tearooms, is true to the theme. It’s a large space, so although popular, you have a good chance of getting a table whenever you visit. The building itself has plenty of character so is an ideal location for a vintage tearooms. The big glass shopfront lets in plenty of light and we were pleased to get a table at the front to enjoy looking out to the street. On the morning we had breakfast here, there was a large group of women in the back room, a craft group, busy knitting, chatting and laughing. This only added to the feeling that we had stepped in to a past era. We ordered the small English breakfasts which were just the right size, and of course we enjoyed the mismatched china that everything is served on. The service is very friendly and welcoming; our meals and drinks came out in good time. Just around the corner is the promenade so after your visit to the tearooms, you can enjoy a stroll along the Mersey looking across to Liverpool. It’s a very lengthy promenade, traffic-free and lined with attractive houses. The perfect way to work off the calories if you have found yourself unable to resist some extra treats at the tearooms. We look forward to returning and trying the full afternoon tea one day.

Having been for a ramble around New Brighton and thoroughly blown off all the cobwebs we spotted this delightful cafe in Victoria road.We went in to get a hot drink(Ha!) and were quickly seduced by the smell of fresh baking and bacon. The order for a bacon and a sausage toastie quickly followed our order for tea and coffee. The decor here is a delight .All the walls are full of old photos of the local area from days gone by.The china plates and teacups and saucers are an artwork on there own.Fresh tea leaves in a teapot,Mr.D had forgotten how to use a tea strainer! The staff are very chatty and obviously take a pride in what they are doing.Keep on doing what you are doing girls, you have got it spot on.Hopefully it won't be long before we can visit again. Now,where can I buy a tea strainer? Pinkwoolyhat

I don't normally preface a review by mentioning the plumbing but when customers keep returning from the loo with wide grins, you know you are in for something a little different. All the delicious cakes and pastries are made fresh each day on the premises, and the afternoon teas look monumental. We had the best caramel cake, orange cake, Bakewell tart, and scones fresh out of the oven. The decor is quirky but comfortable and many of the customers are regulars so the atmosphere is chatty and friendly. The owner and the waitresses are motherly and full of banter.

I booked an afternoon tea here for my mum, sister and two nieces. Having read all the reviews I was excited to see what it was all about. It was amazing !! so much to see in this little restaurant. Its full of quirky little bits and it is like going back in time My nieces were amazed with the old style telephone, they put rollers in their hair and sat under the hairdryers. The toilet was an adventure in itself, so much to look at. The staff are super friendly and make time to come and chat with you even though they are busy. The afternoon tea was plentiful, all the cakes were homemade and were absolutely gorgeous. We did end up taking some home with us. Absolutely loved this place, fun for all ages.

Called in here while on a walk out in the sunshine. Was extremely busy when we were here at around 12:30. Worth calling ahead to book a table to avoid waiting. Food is really nice and we'll presented. Our tea and coffee was forgotten till after we had eaten, so the owner didn't charge us for them. Nice touch I thought and acknowledgment of their error, so I was more impressed with their policy in this area. Lots of retro photos and other items on the walls. Would really recommend a visit and I will definitely go back.
