Regency Tandoori in Thanet

We came here for a meal to celebrate my birthday and although service was good, I left feeling disappointed. Not sure if it was anything to do with the main guy not being there but there was a few things that I wasn’t happy with…. The toilets stank of urine. You could smell it from outside the toilets. It was disgusting. The ladies toilet would not flush. I reported it but nothing was done about it. My daughter’s dinner had black hairs in her food and my other daughter’s chicken korma looked microwaved. There was also a real language barrier with one of the waiters who couldn’t understand some drinks. It’s a shame because it’s the first time we’ve had a negative experience here.

Lovely food, friendly staff. Convenient for the cinema. Easy parking in road outside.

First time ordering after not finding a nice Indian restaurant in the area. Food was amazing, very hit and very fresh. Will definitely be ordering and visiting for dining in soon.

Staff were as friendly and lovely as always, the food was outstanding, I would definitely recommend the napali chicken, beyond amazing.

The worst chicken biriyani ever with no chicken pieces and heaps of turmeric powder. It was no where close to how a biriyani would look, smell or taste. Not recommended

We've eaten here a few times & had take aways & not had a bad curry yet! Staff are really friendly, the restaurant is comfortable and the food is always great. We've tried the chicken tikka, veg biriani, tarka dal, saag aloo, dansak & veg madras and they were all great. Only grumbles are they don't label vegetarian or vegan food & as an LFC fan, surprised the only paper they have if you're waiting for a take away is the S*n

I have been to this Restaurant many times and I sadly have to say it’s gone down in my estimation, they are always late in getting you to your table, slow in taking your drinks order, and then even slower in taking your food order. It is such a shame as it use to be so good, the owner of the restaurant seems to have lost his personality? Don’t like card purchases and even stated cash gets discounts, first time he has offered that in all the years I have been going!! Such a shame he has become so greedy. Not for me anymore

This is the best curry in east Kent, Just love it . If we could afford it we would be here every night. The staff are lovely and friendly

As always good atmosphere and fantastic food

Shocking service and attitude! We ate here as a group of 6 women last night and from start to finish we were met with rudeness. The staff almost shrugged our custom off and passed us from staff member to staff member, we were then dictated to about how we order our food and again, were being spoken to extremely rudely! We then finished our meal and wanted to pay our bill.. what an experience! We were wanting to pay part cash and part card but were told by the manager/owner that it would complicate his taxes too much and we had to either pick cash or card!! We offered to pay a tip out of courtesy, but the response given was ‘don’t bother, I don’t get any tips on the card reader’ We were then told we were unable to pay £19.88 and had to round it up to the nearest number.. I’ve never heard such rubbish in all of my life. Overall we were spoken down to, belittled and made to feel extremely awkward. We will NOT be returning!

The food and beer are very reasonably priced and the dishes are well executed classics. My vindaloo was nice and hot, and quite dark and angry 😁 and the portions are good. The service was friendly and attentive. I'll definitely go again when I am next in town 🙏🏾 Oh my only observation is that there wasn't any background music being played which would have added to the atmosphere 👍🏼You've got to love a bit of Indian music while you crunch your poppadoms 😉

VALENTINE EVENING RUINED……..had a table booked for a week, Sat 16th Feb 8pm! Sat for 40 minutes with no communication, no apologies and continuous tables for 4 being called! There was a huge influx of people pilling in with apparent bookings, standing over customers sat trying to enjoy their meals! There was no organisation with accommodating pre booked tables with people trying to push in to get place as soon as they could! To be honest it appeared tables for 2 are just not wanted, perhaps because is less profitable! We did try to politely ask someone (the person who appeared to be in charge) how much longer we would have to wait only to be confronted with attitude and told ‘we only have tables for 4’. Too late to get in anywhere else so thank you for ruining our evening!!!!!

Went as a late birthday surprise for my husband. (He was working on the day) Amazing service, beautiful food, haven’t tasted a curry or Nan bread (so light and fluffy 😋)this good for years. Am definitely coming back

Haven’t been here for 30 years but so happy I came back because nothing has changed, good clean dining area and food quality and service exactly as I remember it. Won’t be waiting so long before visiting again

Had heard of the Recency but you never know what you will find until you try. Cannot fault in any way, the moment you walk in there is a warm inviting and friendly atmosphere, plus the warming smell of spices, from then on it gets better and better, even though we had a party of 14 service was excellent with drinks and food arriving quickly and everything as you could only hope for. Great menu brilliant food, for me the best all round experience for sometime! And pleasantly surprised by the bill.

We have been here many times as we lived in Westgate. This restaurant never fails. The curries are amazing as are all the side dishes. Staff always friendly and go that extra mile to make kids feel welcome. My daughter loves a lollipop lol

It was a mate's 50th Birthday on Saturday so we decided to go and have a Indian, so we chose Regency Tandoori in Westgate. All I can say is wow!! The best Indian restaurant I've ever been too. The food was fantastic, a friendly service, great atmosphere. This place was packed out which in my experience is only a good sign. They have a sit in restaurant which I say would hold about 50 guests. They also do a take away service. The prices are reasonable.The only very small downside it needs a little TLC, the chairs have seen better days. But that's it!! I would highly recommend this Tandoori restaurant I will most definitely going back and recommending to friends. Thank you too all the staff who served us on Saturday night you were fantastic. See you soon.

My first visit here and it was excellent. Great service, welcoming and friendly. Really enjoyed the food, one of the best Chicken Madras I have had, the naan was good too, and very reasonable prices in comparison to what you pay most take away places these days. Will definetely be going back.

The menus were very old and ripped which was not a good initial impression, wish we left at that point. Ordered a chicken jalfrezi which was unlike any I've had before, loads of sauce and tasteless. Meat was not good. The side dishes were luke warm and unpleasant. We all had upset stomachs the next day. And it was expensive.

This place is a real gem!! The food is fresh, tasty, and I've gotta say, this place is definitely amongst the best I've tried so far for Indian cuisine. The staff were very friendly and happy to help, and we cant wait to dine there again when we next go to Margate.

A lovely family meal! Went here on suggestion from my brother and was great. Friendly and attentive service with quality food! The naan is just how I like it, light, pillowy and a delicious.

Have been dining there for 20 years, never felt the need to complain, food was then and now spot on and my favourite lamb jalfrase and as good now and consistently spot on for the 20 years .

We came out as a family of seven with varying tastes and none of us were disappointed! The food was absolutely divine , good value for money and the service excellent. This Indian restaurant was possibly one of the best I’ve dined in and I very much look forward to revisiting again!

Best Indian restaurant in this area. Visited this Saturday with family, the restaurant was very busy. Though staff was in rush, staff was really friendly and informative. Used to go there every often but after pandemic this was first time. Food quality was as expected, well presented, everything came in the right time. On top of that meet a new little staff, he is lovely person, absolutely brilliant and very professional (happy face though was very busy). Love to go there again and recommend for everyone.

Been many times, my favourite Indian restaurant the only place I will eat or get a take away from. Food is best anywhere in Thanet. Staff are amazing. Always go above and beyond. Never have an issue with anything. Absolute stars!

A disappointment from the start really Food not great and service poor. Won't return

We've been going here for 26 years on and off & we were not impressed this time. All 3 dishes were the same in colour even though we'd all ordered different dishes, the flavours were not vastly different and were all very average. The staff seemed to be on fast forward which actually created more work for them. Asked if we wanted poppadums before we'd even ordered a drink, we replied that we'd look at the starters first as we did not want both so they then took the plates away. Before we could look at the wine list they'd taken it away so we had to ask for it back. Got the drinks order wrong! When we actually got to look at the menu we decided we'd just have poppadums so then they had to go get the plates again! The naan and rices were very nice so that evened it out. Asked a staff member to tell us about their specials as the menu gave no info, he had no idea so had to go find someone who could tell us, it never happened so had to grab another staff member to tell us. Again, staff were so quick to put a drink down & scarper off that we struggled to have their attention long enough to ask. Very disappointed, I'd have thought after lockdown and in the current economic climate they'd up their game not lower it. Saying all that we'll probably go back but no rush to do so.

Spent Saturday evening here with three friends. A really nice meal, good service, tasty food and good company. A good night out and I would recommend to my friends.

Used to go to this restaurant 20 years ago and then stopped as we found other places. Returned over the past 3 months and every time the food and service has been excellent. Recommend the Naga curry.

We ordered a family takeaway meal for three which cost just over £30. It lacked flavour, was watery and crammed full of tomatoes. None of the meals were finished. Disappointing.

Very poor experience. Take away chicken rogan was very watery, lacked flavour and was mostly full off tomatoes. It was a tomato curry.

Weve used this restaurant in the past to eat in and takeaway, and travel as it has always been so nice.Ordered a takeaway tonite and its not a patch on what we have had previously, its tastless chicken, in lots of barely cooked tomatoes and...

Picked up late night vindaloo and Madras with some rice's, bread and poppadoms! Was all really nice, will eat here again when visiting Westgate!

Perfect portion sizes, not too big not too small, everything we ordered tasted fantastic. No leftovers

Our first visit and can't wait to go again, the staff were amazing and the food was the best we have eaten for flavour, planning our next visit as we speak.

We went in to collect . They asked us if we wanted a glass of wine . It was like acid £6.50 for glass cheap wine . I said to them that’s outrageous He said “ That’s England “ What a bunch of scammers . Then the takeaway was dreadful . Lots of watery sauce with cheap tiny prawns . I mean dreadful . They are having us on and obviously think we are all idiots here in the U.K. We gave them a second chance a week later . The same .1/10

Great food and very attentive and kind staff

Really great service with personable staff and very good quality food at a reasonable price. It made for a great night out. Very happy and would really recommend this to anyone looking for a good Indian meal when out and about in the area.

Recently myself & my husband from London went to the Recency for the first time with friends who live in Westgate, who invited us down. The food was delicious 😋😋. I would love to give 4+ but I couldn't as I think the staff & manager could brush up on their customer service skills.Notonce did the staff welcome us or talk to us. I tried to establish eye contact and smile with them but myself and husband might as well have been invisible, apart from when I clarified something with the manager about my order .They seemed to be very fixated on our friends who live there..with plenty of banter going on.. It is a shame.😕 Myself and husband would visit again for the food.. Sorry but not for friendly service towards us as we didn't experience any. Please include us next time ,we can actually talk. Thanks

Went for the 1st time lastnight it is very busy which to me is normally a good sign and it was very nice food will be going again in the near future.

We come here aboút once a month. It does the best Indian food in thanet. Never had a bad meal.§taff are very polite and are so helpful.

Not to be missed.......the Regency such a delightful experience nothing was 2 much trouble Such mouth watering food...good variety good value for money and so tasty my lamb dish was lovely and tender... Visited the Regency on Saturday the 26th of February 2022 and the food was excellent. I was with a group of 6 and all of us enjoyed our meals equally well. Delicious food and prompt service without any dramas.

Poor service, after waiting 45 minutes for food being told when asked “2 minutes” and waited a further 15 Restaurant was cold, a rowdy table in and out constantly to smoke and door left open China that food was served on was chipped My food was cold The rowdy table had one very loud person that was using offensive language and conversation I’d normally complain at the time but basically there was no opportunity to and not even asked if everything was ok I would not be ever going back This was once highly rated but very poor standard experienced tonight Food was poor quality

The food was amazing and would’ve been 5 ⭐️ had the service just been a little better. We asked lots of questions about the menu as we’d not been before and felt the waiter was getting annoyed with us for doing so. There’s also several typos on the menu that makes it harder to read. But overall an amazing evening and will definitely go again. Very good value too

Always a great place for a curry..been going there on and off for about 30 years. Cannot fault it.
