Booked for 7 of us for Sunday Lunch. The staff were brilliant and made us all feel welcome. The meals were lovely, well cooked and well presented. We all had 3 courses, the menu had plenty of choice and the option for a smaller portion. We will definately return.

Resantly went for a family sunday lunch but to say we didnt enjoy it would be an understatment. when the food arrived it wasnt very warn and the meat was so tuff it was difficult to cut, there was no gravy and when we asked for some staff where a little sharp and said they would bring one when the had finshed serving other tables. We finally got some gravy but it was such a small amount for the four of us. we asked if it was possabile for a little more but this time it never came. we finaly gave up on our meal. Dont think we will return in a huury if at all.

I live in Australia and recently made a booking at the Carlton Park Hotel restaurant for my parents 65th Wedding Anniversary. Their attention to detail in my every request for the evening was perfect. My parents were delighted with the service from all involved from Reception, Bar Staff, Wait staff and the duty manager. Their meal was delicious and they enjoyed everything that was served to them. They even served up an extra surprise cake for their anniversary. Thank you for making their special meal and memorable one, and for spoiling them on our behalf.

23 of us were booked on a Sunday afternoon for my Grandmother's 80th birthday of whom 5 were under the age of ten. We had to cancel one place due to illness but despite calling in advance there remained 23 place settings so one had to be removed whilst we were seated. When taking orders we asked for smaller portions for some of the children (at no point did we expect to pay any less but over-facing them means they don't eat) to be told in no uncertain terms "it comes as it is just take stuff off when it gets here". No problem we can cope with making changes whilst our food gets cold. Then the dishes came: The starter I had was allegedly "field mushrooms" but tasted like button mushrooms in a tin of heinz mushroom soup. The prawn salad my grandmother had was a very small portion of North Atlantic Prawns with mayo and tomato ketchup dolloped on and served with a lettuce leaf. Main course was mostly roast dinner style as it was Sunday but the beef I had was so tough and well done I could have used it to resole my shoes. Roast potatoes were undercooked and vegetables tasted like they had been put on to boil for at least a month. Pretty much all of us said how disappointing it was. By dessert our expectations were low but even so the Carlton Park fell well short, my favourite comment was that the Sticky Toffee Pudding was not sticky, didn't taste of toffee and whilst it did have a spongy texture it was more washing-up sponge than cake sponge apparently the chocolate cake tasted like "brown cream". Dreadful experience - the service staff be truly ashamed and the kitchen team even more so.

We were concerned as we’d heard the hotel had received a poor hygiene rating. After raising our concerns prior to going we were assured everything would be fine. I was sat near the kitchen and could see the mess over the floor. The food was not pleasant. A few strawberries and a hunk of melon on a plate with some badly chopped kiwi was a starter. The soup was so peppery it was inedible. Poor vegetarian option and a soup of a trifle. Would not recommend.

We have visited the restaurant on a few occasions for Sunday lunch and 1 of our party has Coeliac disease, the food is nice if you have no food allergies BUT if you do I would take your own or not go as they do not seem bothered about catering for them. On every visit we have booked making sure they know our situation and we have always rung the day before to double check to be told yes they do cater for coeliacs. Every time we get there they never have bread to go with the soup, the Yorkshire pudding they provided you could have played Frisbee with it was that hard and the only dessert they offer is fruit salad, fine if you like fruit, if you don't tough. So when they say they cater for Coeliacs what they mean is they can't actually be bothered to use their cooking skills to make an appetising dessert or buy 1 in for people who can't eat wheat and gluten for medical reasons not life style choices. Most restaurant chains are able to offer choices for people with dietary needs you would expect a hotel like The Carlton Park to. We are Very Disappointed and will not return.

Had a drink in the bar before our meal. The white wine was dry as requested but could have been better chilled. There was a wedding on so bar busy and service slow, The decor is fine and the split level bar is attractive. The dining room itself is of a modest size and quite intimate but it needs a re-vamp. Far too dated. Service was efficient and pleasant. I enjoyed the mushroom risotto though appearance on the plate was a bit off-putting.

Menu looked good but the food that was served was only just average really. Nacho starter was really good! The bowl they were served in was hotter than the sun! Also more dip would have been great, We did mention that there wasn't enough and the waiter did say we should have mentioned it and they'd have bought us more! Mixed overseas meat platter was disappointing, steak & chicken were dry but still had taste somehow? Corn on the cob was over done. Baked potato was pretty good actually! Sticky toffee pudding was a huge letdown, served not quite cold but only just above room temperature. It also didn't have much taste. The staff are very polite, very courteous & well presented.

Have stayed at the Carlton Park on numerous occasions, and have always used the restaurant. Consequently I have come to know Jonathan, and respect his attention to detail and kind professionalism. The menu, however, desperately needs a revamp. I usually go for a steak dish with a glass of red wine, but the rib-eye is an inedible gristle-fest! Also, the last time I dined there, they were out of stock of Malbec - probably the only location in Europe to be so! The fish dishes tend to be bland and dry, and the seafood platter was very disappointing. Come on guys! Up your game and I might consider returning. I miss Jonathan's waist coat!

I stayed here for business and unfortunately we ate the food. Burger came with a cheap bun you could buy for 10p each in a supermarket along with a thick tomato slice. Risotto was not a risotto but rice mixed with a pack of seasoning. The soup and sandwich was like a 2 day old services sandwich. Whatever you do don't eat here. Absolutely disgusting

Once again we were warmly welcomed at the hotel and had an enjoyable stay. I thoroughly recommend the hotel but I have a continuing complaint with the restaurant which has still to be addressed. The menu is rarely changed which means a limited choice if you have visited the hotel before or if you are staying for more than a couple of days. Surely it would be an important improvement to have a menu A and a menu B that could be rotated to give a better choice.

DO NOT BOOK YOUR CHRISTMAS LUNCH HERE it was terrible it was cold we asked for more bread rolls as the ones that were out on arrival were dry the waiter came back and said that they only had one left! the soup was cold and one bowl had hardly any in the bowl, the turkey looked nice but had to wait about 10 mins for rest of dinner to arrive, One of the party ordered Venison and looked like a piece of coal it was that well done. We had to ask for gravy. Awful meal no one ate a thing. We pre requested soya milk for the teas and coffees and the manager came and said he had been trying to locate some but all the shops were closed!!! Yes its Christmas day! Mince pies came with 2 Satsumas we said there were 5 of us and was told we would have to share as they had ran out.Ourselves and another table of 8 were complaining at the same time the duty manager kept relaying messages to the manager until we all decided to confront the manager who told us to put it in writing to head office as he could not give us a refund. It was like Fawlty towers completely ruined our christmas day. One month later after investigations and and lots of letters we have eventually got our money back. We will never return here again. Service and quality of food was disgusting. I think they have got greedy and taken on too many booking we were put in the conservatory not the restaurant. For £65 a head you expect more than this.

We are going with a party at Christmas. Every year I have phone up to ask about gluten-free choices for a relative with Coeliacs because nothing is signposted on the menu.. Every year it is the same ; soup without roll, turkey without stuffing or sausage, beef without Yorkshire pudding, only dessert is ice-cream. When I pointed out that every supermarket sells all these things without gluten I was told "Well we don't buy from supermarkets" We would not keep going back except that it is a big group do that someone else organises.

Ate here for a themed murder mystery evening on Halloween, with family. The night was a combination of entertainment and dining - not sure if either fully lived up to expectations, but that should not detract from, what was, a very enjoyable evening all round. The murder mystery was bonkers, as they always are and we got the murderer wrong - as usual, the 'hams' taking part as potential suspects, did a good job and helped to enliven the evening when we asked banal and very personal questions of them as they wandered around the dining room dishing clues out - the air was thick with red herrings - but who cares, it was a laugh! The three course meal was pleasant, with good choices on all courses, and their attention to detail on a requirement for a gluten free option was laudible. I had pate for starters and beef for the main, the beef was VERY good, thoiugh it would have been nice to have been offered some more veg, as, what they served us was very good and well cooked. I finished with sticky toffee pudding and custard - the pudding was, I think, just fractionally over cooked and the custard was a shade thin for me - but let's be brutally honest here, I scoffed the lot!! No probs! Coffee finished the meal and generally it was well received around the room.Service was polite, efficient, and, considering there were about 120 of us, plentiful. The floor show was a laugh, as I have said - but, to be honest, these sort of things are not my bag - but I enjoyed it anyway. The only major downside is the tiny bar, where getting served was a bit of a trauma, which was then worsened, when you realise how much the drinks are - 2 pints, a soft drink and a bottle of cider for around £20 is taking the mick, if not the advantage, of a captive clientele. Unfortunately, this is the way of the world, these days!!

The other times I have had my meals in the lounge. It's more relaxed there. I find staff very good and friendly. The food is well cooked. Try the gut busting mixed grill or the calorie conscious seafood platter. Both delicious but I would give an A* if tiger prawns were used instead of North sea prawns. On the whole a very good atmosphere by Rotherham standards.

This is by far the worst service ever. I am actually sat in the restaurant as I write this waiting for all of the half eaten mains to be cleared away half an hour after finishing. The plates were dirty, the food was served but the gravy wasn't served for 10 minutes after the meal. The food had gone cold before we got any gravy for the table after asking for it 3 times. The table at the side of us had the same problem and complained too. whilst complaining to old blonde waitress the dirty look she gave them for complaining was horrendous. We booked in at 1:30 it is 3:10 now and we are sat looking at half eaten food. The beef smelt like cheese and was inedible for 2 out of the 4 people that had it which then put off the others around the table. We had the exact same experience here 3 years ago and said we'd never come again. We thought surely it's got to be better than last time. Unbelievably it had gotten worse.

From the moment you stepped inside- we were all delighted- the waitresses work very hard and it was a beautiful old school service. 5 choices for starters and we all had soup- bliss- then carvery- the beef was the best I've tasted and I usually end up leaving the meat as I'm a bit choosy- then dessert- then filter coffee. In all it was £77 for 3 courses plus drinks and we all agreed that it was the best we'd ever eaten. Break adequate although somewhat burnt toast. Biggest challenge was the supervisor, a middle aged lady who blond hair, absolutely reeked of cigarettes smoke and when visiting the table to clean up or check in, really put you off eating as he smells lingered in the air for ages. Young lass working there wearing shorts and face mask was by far the hardest working colleague. Supervisor by comparison was meandering around.

Went for Friday as its fish and chip day. As sign outside, showed it was their special for the day. The chips and Mushy peas were average, hard to get wrong really. However the fish not so good. The batter was crispy on outside then wet and slimy inside, looked horrible. It also contained the thinnest piece of fish. It cost £10.30 clearly not worth it. However the service and drinks were good. But as we mainly went for food 2* rating for me. Should have been a sign when only a handful of people were in pub.
