We have visited this lovely pub, with great food and lovely, helpful staff for Sunday lunch a few times However, this is the second weekend on the trot when we visited for drinks. We came with our little puppy and queued at the bar to be served. For the second week in succession we heard a man verbally abusing us from a large round table in front of the window. He swore about us and the fact that we were "f****ng *tourists, and that dogs should not be in the pub. We had our 8 yr old niece with us. Flat cap and beard was totally drunk and seemed to think it was fine to verbally abuse customers. I suggest someone bans him from the pub before he gets punched in the face by a customer. He is harmful to your business. We , sadly , wont return.

Had our meals outside in the beer garden so kids could use the play area, dog crap all over the grass where meals are served and round the play area. Our little girls feet were covered by the time we left, absolutely disgusting considering we're being served food there. Won't be using again, surely against food hygiene standards.

What a disappointing Sunday Lunch experience.. We arrived and was given a table in the dark dusty corner of the bar next to the coffee machine , it was awful we asked if maybe we could move to another table there was a few empty, the person behind the bar was miserable and unhelpful we were told No they are reserved, almost 90 mins later those tables remained empty !! We ordered our food the Sunday Lunch arrived with no veg had to ask for it we had roast beef which was ok but the stuffing ball was overcooked and rock hard. The atmosphere of the pub was most unfriendly and will not return .

Turned up for a booked table. 28/7/24 waited for ages after order. Poor! When food came I asked for dips. 20 mins later, dips turned up. So I asked for a replacement. 2 mins later the food came back., microwaved including burger bun and salad inside. Obviously inedible! When complained no offer of replacement nor refund, just hiding staff. Terrible treatment, terrible food. Went home hungry dissatisfying and £21 short. NEVER EVER AGAIN! First time visiting had heard was good food, how disappointing. We should have realised from the time we walked in, uninterested staff just talking to themselves while we were stood at the bar, finally I said we had a tabled booked a girl said ‘it’s that one at the top in corner’ will need put some cutlery down, then carried on talking, we went and sat down, next someone came and asked if we’d got our drinks, the table was empty!! Said no, ordered when they came I asked if she could clean table first, salt all over it and sticky with a huff she got the spray and wiped it, ordered 2 homemade steak and ale pies and in less than 10 mins was on the table, pie although packed with steak was tasteless (think it had only sniffed the ale) and pastry was not crusty but soft, seemed like it had been pinged. Finished our meal and no one came so went to pay at bar was just presented with bill was never asked if enjoyed it as I would have given the feedback there and then. We would not recommend and staff need customer service training

Avoid. This place has really gone down hill. Young, disinterested staff, who clearly haven’t had any level of training to be front of house in a pub. We ordered food, one order came wrong, we then had to wait another 10 minutes for the meal to re-cooked and it was clearly rushed. Meat was undercooked and was the most grisly piece of beef I’ve had in a long time. Only an apology offered, no reduction in the bill, no level of interest shown and the worrying thing for this pub is, it wasn’t even that busy. The pub up the road (Rockingham) is the better choice of the two! Disappointing, for what should be the best pub in the area.

First time we have been in this pub for a long while. Ordered a £10 glass of wine and a pint of larger. Found a table and sat down . Lots of tables had reserved signs on. Started looking at the food menu for a women to walk over and slap a reserve sign on our table saying we could only have it for another 15 min. So made to feel very unwelcome. Ended up downing our drink and going over the road to a much more welcoming pub .

We had Sunday lunch There were 6 of us, the beef was terrible, the veg given was one giant carrot and parsnip on each plate then a sharer of cauli cheese. I was still hungry as they were not large portions at all so I tried the raspberry Bakewell. I could not cut thru it as the base was solid and had to actually pick it up to eat (again left most of that too). For half the price you can get an amazing dinner with beef to die for at Jans coffee shop round the corner in the antique shop at the old builders yard.

We just had a drink,as the pub was packed. They do food and their Christmas menu looked very nice, it would probably be wise to book to make sure you had a table. There were vegetarian options available. There are plenty of steps leading to different areas so wheelchair accessibility is limited to the rear of the pub which is accessible from the carpark. There's a children's playground at the back with a seated area in front which would be popular in summer.

We visited this week with some friend for a Christmas meal and despite the good reviews by others our experience was pretty poor. Despite the festivities, the lack of cheer or friendliness by staff was apparent. I’m not sure if they realise they work in the “hospitality” industry but a smile and a friendly welcome wouldn’t go amiss. The building itself is lovely and was decorated nicely. We ordered the porchetta and cod as mains and it was just awful. Everything was extremely dry and bland. The £17/£21 price tags meant my expectations were high but sadly not met, not even close. I’ve had better food from hospital canteens. Given we were there with a group of friends, we decided to not spoil the evening by complaining and focusing on the negatives, maybe we should have. I didn’t get the impression it would have been well received anyways. One bright spot, the beer was good. It would take a very different experience for me to spend my money there again.

My friend ordered a venison burger and they brought a veggie burger so she had to wait another 20 mins for them to correct it. By this time we had almost eaten our meal. Total shambles!! Quite disappointing to give this place a 1-star review but after having reached out to the manager with no reply, it just cements the poor quality of service received. Went for a meal with my parents prior to heading back to London for work and we ended up all ordering the same meal. When the meal arrived (steak & ale pie), it became apparent how poor quality the meal would be. 1) The pie was just dumped on the plate and looked generally unappealing. 2) The chips were drenched in grease to the point I couldn’t eat them. 3) 2 out of the 3 pies were left uneaten due to the toughness and poor quality of the meat. We did raise this multiple times with members of the team, who seemed disinterested and did nothing. Very poor service received. As I said we did reach out to management regarding this but didn’t receive a reply.

Have been here a couple of times since the new owners took over and the food was really nice. One slight thing was the time it took for food to come out but it was worth the wait.

We stopped off for lunch with a walking group, large pub, service a little slow, even though they were expecting us, a variety of food and drinks ordered, all pretty good.

Went today on the off chance passing by and noticed it had recently been taken over. We had Sunday lunch and it was absolutely gorgeous! So fresh and the pub is lovely inside.. will definitely be visiting again!

We had such a lovely couple of pints at the Royal Oak just now. Lesley (Landlady) made us feel very welcome and served us delicious pints of Sam Smiths and two pie and mash dinners (I had the steak and ale - so tasty). My Dad is from Ulley (an Ulley-er) and he has lovely memories of the pub in its golden years. It's so nice to see the place under new management and on a new journey. Food was reasonably priced and the atmosphere was great. We will for sure be back - thanks Lesley!
