Yellow Lion in Rotherham

Have been here a couple of times since the new owners took over and the food was really nice. One slight thing was the time it took for food to come out but it was worth the wait.

A shadow of its former self, in need of some TLC to bring it back to what it should be.

Not sure where to start on this…we ordered food at 7:30pm and we’re waiting over 3 hours. I confronted the staff about this, admittedly extremely annoyed, to find the chefs done with their shift and said where’s the food. The fall back excuse was we went to the wrong tables, however surely if you went to the wrong table, the tickets would still be live…also know your pub layout, if a tickets for a table number go to that table not just random people…Clearly they don’t expect much, and maybe they were overwhelmed but I think it’s inexcusable. Also they ran out of ice which we bought for them to try lure them to bring our food around 8:30pm but to no avail.

Child’s 1st Birthday party. I booked my son’s 1st birthday party at the Yellow Lion for around 40 people. I was very impressed with everything. The buffet was amazing, plenty of food, very fresh and a good selection, everyone commented on how nice the food was. The service behind the bar was brill, good quality drinks, friendly staff. The room we hired was clean and we were allowed to put our own decor up. We also had access to the garden area so the kids could play outside in the play area. The manager was really easy to contact and nothing was too much trouble for her. And to top it off it was very good value for money. We would definitely recommend and use again!

Had the steak and ale pie and lasagne both with triple cooked chips. Both were absolutely delicious. I couldn't finish the lasagne! Thank you!

The noise on Sunday afternoon, 2/6/24 was intolerable. The bass notes from the amps reverberate through the village. I live around 300 metres away, and the boom boom made it impossible to sit outside in the sun. I have tried all the phone numbers I can find, and they are unavailable. I assume this will be put right in the near future, but if not I shall report them to Rotherham Council. It must be affecting many residents. Come on Yellow Lion. You can sort this.

i had a side of chips and my partner had hunters chicken, nothing wrong with the mains however took about an hour to make dessert then both came wrong, got brownie instead of fudge cake and no sauce on ice cream, at first the boys at the bar must have been new as they looked unprofessional and bad service , i asked how long the desserts where gonna be they said they didn’t want to go into the kitchen because the chef is “an angry lady” so they just told me it wouldn’t be long, after they came out with the fudge cake it tasted off, then i go to the toilet and there’s no toilet roll in any of the toilets which is funny as it isn’t busy so clearly hasn’t had any toilet checks. over all will not be coming again and very poor business management.

Amazing little Pub just past the fire station in Aston Sheffield. Lovely friendly staff, no hairs n graces. Was nice n quiet next to nobody in on Wednesday afternoon about 4pm. We had burgers & dogs share it. There were 3 of us, and the baking tray came out with a mountain of food. Everything on the platter was beautiful. Real sausage, not frankfurter sausage. Bread was so soft. All very well cooked and presented. Well done to the chef. Has outside play area for the kids. Has a separate area for pool table. Highly recommended. Pub could do with a little attention here and there but quaint.

Went to the yellow lion to celebrate my daughters birthday with grand parents, so there was 9 of us in our party. The menu on offer had something for everyone, and the meals that were served were good value for money in terms of portion sizes. The staff were friendly and looked after us, and there was a good selection of beers available. Would recommend a visit.

Decent beer. Decent atmosphere. Does what it says on the can. No problems.

The service rating is not about the staff who were lovely, but running out of 3 of the 4 lagers on draught on a saturday night was pretty unforgiveable. Lovely atmosphere as usual though

Sunday dinner is genuinely a bargain at a tenner for what is one of the best I’ve eaten in years, considering it’s just £10.00 for a large and £5.00 for a small!

Waited an hour for food. The food was really nice to be fair but there was no table service and few staff. The waitress didn’t look like she knew what to do. When the food arrived you had to wait for cutlery. Shame as if the place was decorated a bit and they had more staff there is great potential as like I said the food didn’t disappoint.

Spent the night there in our Motorhome. Had a Sunday lunch and drinks, both fine. It was a bit quiet maybe, but it was October...

Brill Sunday lunch and so reasonable. Added bonus can take the dog.

We went for Sunday lunch today and felt the need to leave a review. We were 3 adults and 4 small children - we sat outside so the kids could play. The play area is a good size and fenced in, so felt safe to let the kids run around. We ordered large and small roasts and they were very good! The smalls would have been enough for an averagely hungry adult. Also had pie&chips and scampi&chips. It's really very good value for money! Service was absolutely fine. The place in general is maybe lacking a bit of atmosphere and needs a bit of TLC, but as long as you manage your expectations, it's great! We'll definitely be back.

It's a big venue and has lots of tv screens scattered around. Seems to host regular events like a pub quiz It's atmosphere / ambience is ok, but it needs a refurbishment Didn't see any 'real ale' on offer Vodka and tonic came without any (or any offer of) ice and lemon 🍋. Just a glass of warm vodka and a bottle of tonic 😂 The girl seemed a bit surprised when I asked about it. Turned out they didn't have any lemon 🍋 We didn't try the food

Took an hour for food to arrive, but was lovely, when it finally came.

Shocking food, slow service even though dining room was empty. Also forgot a meal and we'd all finished before the other meal came out. Really poor

Booked for Sunday lunch for 6 adults at 2pm. Checked when booking that this wouldn’t be too late! 45mins after ordering, our meals were finally served. The beef was tough (and the cutlery blunt!) and the veg was not very hot. Our first visit for many decades, but we won’t be returning I’m afraid.

Quiet Father's day meal which was perfect. No fuss, no wait, comfortable no frills establishment, would visit again and recommend to others .

Only had a drink at first but the pub and staff were very nice. Wanted to eat, menu looked amazing, but the kitchen only opened at 5pm. We returned after 5pm, and had a delicious steak dinner

Sharing platter , main meal more like, next to a busy childrens playground but not over noisy, we will go again

Nice little pub with a pool table and a lovely menu even though we did not eat. The pub was quite busy but the service was quick and the drinks were nicely chilled.

Great pub with playground and large bouncy castle. Ample parking and outdoor seating. Live music. Lovely relaxed festival atmosphere.

Nice Venue but when I visited they only had one cask ale on tap which was disappointing. Plus the food menu was very limited, so we didn't bother. It could be 5* due to the location and decor, but a pub calling themselves a real ale pub and not having any isn't great!

Went with 2 friends. I had Hot Dog 🌭 £11.50 absolutely ripped off. Presentation was terrible, literally no condiments to choose from, condiments bottles ect was Filthy. I've eaten once here last year and it was actually lovely. It's definitely gone downhill As to why? Only the current people who work there can answer that. I won't be eating there again unless word gets out that something drastically has changed for the Better. 😒

Went in for Sunday lunch on the way back from gulliver's valley, with it having very good reviews we were expecting it to be lovely. Well it wasnt, my partner absolutely hated her dinner and I ate as much as I could stomach, but the roast potatoes were awful and the beef was very tough. The staff were nice and they put the sunderland match on after I requested. But it (£12 for large and £6 for small) was a rip off for the lackluster beef dinners. I got a bit more nasty beef, an extra inedible roast potato and a mediocre yorkshire pudding for double the price! So we can't score it any more than 2 stars unfortunately.

We didn't have food this time but we had drinks and one of my pints was in a glass with colourful things on it. Can't remember what they were because I'd had a few by then but the drinks are very reasonably priced

No BT Sport and a bit pricey, but is a nice pub.

Friendly local pub! The home made chips ( more like wedges) are fab!

Couldn’t fault my dinner tonight. I had squid to start which was brilliantly cooked. Tender and tasty. I’ve never had chicken cooked so well out. It was superb. I’m gutted I’m only in the area one night because I would love to eat here again. And to add the staff were all absolutely lovely.

Stopped by for a quick meal with the kids. Very friendly and helpful staff and some great food. We had a great time and loved the halloween decorations. See you again soon!

Spend a few days at gullivers vally resort and decided we wanted to go for some good pub grub on the way home. Pub seemed spacious and clean, had big beautiful beer garden and the landlady was very chatty & friendly. From the minute I walked in I was disappointed by the way the manager spoke to me. Absolutely appalled by his customer service and attitude! The food was OK but nothing special (the moody manager/landlord cooked it). Two medium rare steaks that were overcooked but we didn't complain or want to make an issue for the waiter. The landlady was lovely and should be the face of that place. We got chatting, I asked her if they got busy or if they had a good footfall from the locals, which she replied "not really" I'm not even surprised why after the way her partner spoke to me TWICE!!!! Felt like an unwanted DOG. Could also hear him kicking off in the kitchen. Which is fine, I run a pub myself and know chefs can become very angry and irritated at times or at customers request but we was the only guests in the pub at the time? He should be mindful of his customers. 2 steaks and a burger is not hard bearing in mind they opened the kitchen at 4pm and we order at 2 minutes past. Not impressed and will 100% never return.

The staff were nice and friendly, very limited menu. As an eating place not a lot of atmosphere. Was more a pub/disco vibe which is fine if that's what you're looking for. The meal was very mediocre.

We were greeted by the welcoming owner who told us a bit about the pub and the play area which was put in last year. My 7 year old grandson enjoyed playing and loved the bouncy castle. Food is freshly cooked but was served timely. I ordered full rack of ribs, my son had beefburger and grand son ,children's pizza meal.we had 2 pints of lager and bill was £ 40.00 which we thought was reasonable. I would go again and recommend it.

Went for lunch with my son & grandson. We were given a lovely welcome from the owner. She told us she'd been there about 4 years and last year had a play are built. Also, a bouncy castle. My grandson enjoyed playing. Our meals were freshly cooked and we didn't wait long. The food was tasty and well presented. I would go again and recommend a visit.

Called in for tea because i kept seeing face book posts and it didn't disappoint the food was cooked beautiful and the staff were super friendly 😊

Booked a table for a family meal, 6pm on a Friday. Table was a bit sticky, but otherwise good. Menu was a bit more limited than I would have expected, but ordered rump steaks. The pub was very busy so it took over an hour for the food to arrive. Great real ale: Ghost Ship, and other drinks also good. The pub was crowded and very noisy. There was a live entertainer (singer), but he was not great, (good songs though). Food arrived, fantastic lean steak (10oz rump) and wonderful thick hand cut chips, possibly the best I’ve ever had. Served with a side salad, garlic mushrooms, and a piece of grilled tomato. Had onions rings to share as a side dish, these were also excellent. Staff were warm and welcoming, and helpful. Definitely a place I would recommend, but when returning (we will return), I would aim for a less busy time when the noise may be less deafening.

Good fresh food..how many eateries can do a half and half difference toppings on one pizza for the grandkids..

The pub has just recently undergone some refurbishment. The outdoor area is great for kids as it has a good sized play area. There is a big gazebo to sit in if needed. The food is reasonably priced. The quality of the food was surprising, the burgers are great and the chunky chips fantastic.

Delicious and generous portions. Lovely staff who took the time to chat and go through the menu. Spot on!

Staff were disgustingly rude- even after a 45min wait for food. Overheard the member of staff tell the customer in front of me when ordering food that ‘she’s not serving food to people sat on the grassed area as she was too lazy to walk that far’.. I said when ordering, I would happily come collect my food as I am sat in that area and if not I would happily go elsewhere and that it wasn’t a problem and she gave me a dirty look. Only 2 staff working, and clearly was very popular due to the weather and did not get an apology for waiting in the queue for 15minutes, then only to be greeted in a disgusting manner and no apology for the wait Ordered food and waited 40mins, went back to the bar too check how long, and she said they were plating up, 10mins later we still had no food.. food came and we had no cutlery, condiments or napkins. I went back up to the pub and ask her ‘where are your cutlery and conditments please’ only then to be greeted by the same disguntled member of staff. I later then did say ‘well I’m sorry but you need more staff, I can’t even get a drink your queues are far too long. And then she said well I’m talking to you ain’t I that’s why… absolute cheek after she didn’t even bring our cutlery to the table and food was very late. Food very over priced and limited option due to lack of staff and ‘price of fish had doubled..’ Pub looks dirty and dingy inside and outside, I later had found dogs have a lovely free area in the childrens play area to sh*t in as my children thankfully noticed a dollop before stepping in it. Would be a nice pub, but unfortunately people in it ruin it…

I’m not from the area, but decided to try the pub out as we were staying on a hotel nearby where the beer and food is expensive, and the menu not that varied. To cut a long story short, we were made to feel very welcome, and the food is some of the best I have had in a pub for a long, long time. And I can safely say the same for my six colleagues who were with me too! We all tried different things on the menu, starters and mains, and it has all been superb!

Family of 4 - we all had the buffet Sunday roast which had a choice of three meat - gammon, beef and turkey. I had the ham and beef which came served with roast potatoes, mash, Yorkshire pudding and home made stuffing. The veg and gravy is self serve and we all helped ourselves to carrot batons, peas, swede, cabbage and of course lashings of real gravy. The veg was definitely fresh and perfectly cooked with great flavour. The beef was tender and flavourful. The service as always was friendly and attentive. A great Sunday lunch at a great pub, all washed down with excellent hand pulled ales and wine, ok the kids had coke.

We've not visited for ages as it's been closed, great to see it reopened and serving the community.. Wow!! The pub has been transformed outside with a marquee, new seating area, play apparatus, swings. Just had a drink with family in kids area outside, staff were friendly and pleasant, great to see people supporting pub industry.

What a fantastic pub called here today after booking for my 71st birthday ,food was out of this world and really good value for money I had the house platter and my partner the 8oz rump steak couldn't fault any of it , lovely atmosphere and a rally nice host , hope you both continue to do well you deserve every compliment you get , what a lovely couple

My steak was well presented with all the trimmings. Sue had grilled chicken that went down a treat. Both meals had fresh salad & big chips. Very pleasant service from our waitress who gave us a warm welcome & proved attentive throughout our visit. Nice bitter beer. Who could ask more? Thank you.

Great food but a bit expensive and got a beer garden for the kids

Really busy had a really nice steak but the twice cooked chips wasn't cooked they were hard as they were sliced too thick. I noticed nearly every dish that went out was eaten apart from the horrid chips. Change the chips & let's see a clear plate.

These guys have done such an incredible job of transforming the outside areas, it's a great venue and the outside bar gives you a real holiday feel. Food was outstanding
