Wonderful location. Fantastic views The staff were so lovely, we felt like VIPs - we were staying at the hotel and all the staff made our break that extra special. The food was exceptional - I had pea panna cotta which came with a crab and prawn mouse - I want the recipe - I would recommend this starter. Fillet steak cooked perfectly - again highly recommended If you want to treat someone you love - treat them to The Regency - they will bemade to feel special!!

The spacious restaurant is a pleasant place to enjoy a meal, we stayed two nights and the quality of the food ranged from superb fillet steak to rather dry tortellini, good basic fish and chips to stodgy risotto, but there was a varied menu and some nice starters. A bit pricey. A very good breakfast menu, with the staple English breakfast standing out. For a hotel restaurant - very good.

Food was very good despite the negative reviews. Not at all like what people are saying. Waitresses and waiters were very friendly and all the food was very tasty. Very thankful we didn’t miss out on this opportunity due to the bad reviews on here!

Dined here whilst stay at the hotel, we had 2 courses from the menu which is a little pricy but the food was good and well presented , service attentive. Downside was the dinning room the blue room whilst we enjoyed an open fire was dated and in need of updating, the lighting was also not great. Coffee was also very expensive . But I would return as I did enjoy the food.

Visited the restaurant as I used to frequent the hotel many years ago and our regular restaurant was fully booked. The hotel is in need of some updating as it is looking rather tired however the atmosphere is pleasant and the setting is quite romantic. Dinner was a set menu at £60 per person with extra supplements for steak, cheese board or coffee. I had hoped that the food would be at least aiming in the direction of Michelin star standard but unfortunately it was just nice, rather average and certainly not of the quality that the price bracket suggested. The staff were lovely and we did have a nice evening. Unfortunately though I think we would give it a miss next time as there are many more restaurants in the area offering more exciting food at much better value for money.

We were staying at the hotel, so ate here for lunch and dinner. I’m not sure which service was the more baffling of the two. There are a lot of staff who all seem to have a loose understanding of their job. Some are nervous and easily spooked, others are vacant with a haunted look on their face, but all border on incompetent. At times there are 4 or 5 staff milling about, and at others it’s barren. Drinks take an impossibly long time to arrive, and you aren’t ever offered another - I’d suggest you plan ahead and order two drinks in advance, and maybe bring a bottle of water just in case. We had ‘Sandwiches’ for lunch. You can’t really get a sandwich wrong, can you? A nice filling, sandwiched between two slices of bread. Well forget everything you thought you knew about sandwiches. Here’s a dusty steak slapped on top of a single piece of comically small bread. Chicken and bacon sandwich? Here’s a tower of pale chicken, also on a single piece of comically small bread. Dinner shared all of the same problems, but this time it’s extortionate. You have to have a reservation, you can’t just walk in. The 20 cover restaurant had 3 other covers in the 90 minutes we were there. Service is again bordering on comical. The food is soft, bland, and inoffensive. I’m pretty sure my saliva was adding more flavour to the dish than my tongue was receiving. The cauliflower cheese had the most texture of anything that passed by the table. The bread is - for some reason - baked and served in a soggy old flower pot. It smells and tastes like chip batter. I’m sure this venue will be leaking money. The owners might wonder why - it has the best view we’ve eaten by in the UK. But even with 10 minutes sat in the guest experience will tell them; this is D tier food, at B tier prices, with F tier service. Might be worth suffering through lunch for the A tier view, though.

Stayed at the hotel for one week so we had breakfast everyday and two dinners at the restaurant. We really appreciate Nikolay’s professional and warm service at the restaurant and the lounge bar. Always a pleasure to start the day with his warm service. As for the foods, the first dinner there (Monday) was really decent fine dining. We had Venison Wellington and a pork dish with different ways of cooking different parts of pork. Again, thanks Nikolay for the great recommendation. I had the same pork dish on Wed but it was really disappointing: burnt veg, large chunk of badly cut pork loin, half size pork cheek. The restaurant did not charge for the dish and I was told this was because a different chef cooked it. In all, this restaurant has a first-class service team, hope they could maintain the standard of food as I had on Monday... Pictures attached: great Monday dinner

The hotel lists that it has breakfast, lunch and dinner and bar facilities on site so we planned on having lunch before we checked in. The man on reception (david) proceeded to tell us that they would not be doing lunch and that he only had a few bottles of beer in the fridge in the way of a bar but directed up to a pub that was serving lunch (45 min walk from the hotel). We went a long to the pub and got lunch and came back to check in to be told that they were fully booked for dinner service so we wouldn’t be able to dine. I had previously messaged the hotel twice to see if anything was required from myself and the second time to enquire about dinner. The website for the hotel states that although the hotel opened on July 5th if restaurant service couldn’t be complied with by our stay then a takeaway option to dine in room would be available. The main reason we chose this hotel was due to its inclusive facilities given the current pandemic. This stay was booked for our 4th Anniversary, I can’t stress enough how unhelpful the reception manager was and his total disregard for our situation which led to a long travel home the same day. Whilst at the reception desk multiple guests were complaining about the lack of room cleanliness and that towels and toiletries were not changed. Menus were the previous days and that dietary requirements were not facilitated for.

My husband and I recently returned from our holiday at Macdonald Leeming House and unfortunately I need to make a complaint about a number of concerns. 1. Lack of care for dietary requirements: My husband has Crohn’s Disease and as a result cannot eat any fibrous food. Crohn’s is a serous condition which can result in emergency hospital treatment if an attack occurs. My husband discussed his needs with the chef each night (who was very accommodating), however on the first night the potato skin was left on his chips so my husband had to slice off the skin of every chip before he could eat them. He reminded the chef of his situation again the next day and from then on no more mistakes were made. However, no member of waiting staff were made aware of his dietary needs, so every meal time we had to explain he had a different meal plan already arranged with the chef. Each waiter/waitress was very confused and we had to get into explanations of his health condition. I’m sure you can appreciate it was embarrassing, awkward and frustrating to have this same conversation for every course of every meal in front of all the other diners. 2. Poor service: The waiting staff in general were comedy bad. It was literally like being in an episode of Faulty Towers every day. Service was extremely slow, orders forgotten, orders incorrect and general chaos for every course of every meal. We did complain to the manager on reception who explained that he had received complaints from a large number of guests about the same thing. The staff were all very friendly and apologetic for the situation and it seemed that all staff we spoke to were very new to the job (it was their first week). I appreciate everyone has to learn and would give consideration to a trainee, but when the entire team is new and there’s no one managing the situation, the result was totally unprofessional and not what I would expect when paying to stay a luxury hotel. 3. Lack of cleanliness: There were a number of ways the hotel fell short of appropriate cleanliness standards. Firstly, there were flies crawling all over the breakfast buffet every morning. All the windows were open as it was extremely hot and the hotel heating was still on full blast at all times, so I understand how flies got in, but no attempt was made to cover the food or get rid of flies on the food. Secondly, room service food was not cleared- the room next to ours had left a tray of half eaten chicken sandwiches on a shelf opposite our door one afternoon and this was not actually cleared away by staff until the next morning! Again, the radiators in the corridors were burning hot and as all the fire doors were closed, there was no air flow, creating unpleasant smells. Thirdly, our room was given the most basic of cleans- the bed was made and bathroom cleaned but our cups and glasses were not replaced with clean ones and when our shower gel needed replacing they left a half used bottle from another room, rather than providing a fresh one. In short the experience was disappointing and not what we were expecting from a 4 star AA Rosette hotel and restaurant.

It went wrong as soon as we walked through the door and the very flustered chap on reception just seemed to go to pieces. Had we booked. He didn't know if they were serving lunches. He just kept repeating that a Chinese tour was coming in later and how would he cope. Everything seemed a bother. This review will come as no surprise to the staff as I spoke at length to the charming manager and he was in complete agreement about the lunch I was served. This was meant to be a lamb and chickpea curry but they'd used belly of lamb so it was a dry bowl of lamb fat with masses of chickpeas. The manager offered to change it but it is a very small menu and had nothing I wanted so I opted for the fish and chips as this was the quickest thing to cook and my husband was halfway through his meal. The fish was ok if slightly greasy but the fries were undercooked. This was accompanied by the most bizarre bowl of florescent green mush which turned out to be inedible, dried out, mashed up garden peas. No staff around so I had to go all round the hotel in search of a waiter. I was offered a bottle of water which I assumed they were giving me then I noticed on the bill they charged £5 for it. In fairness they didn't charge for one of the meals but as it was inedible that seemed reasonable. The views are stunning hence the one star but avoid eating here. This in no way lives up to the McDonalds name.

I found the staff minimally helpful on any number of issues. There is a continual language issue - often I am not understood, often I don't understand. What the setting may enhance, the staff undermines. Of note, this place is boring. There are no accommodates except to sit in dreadful chairs and watch the rain/sun glide across the far hill. Might have been better had we the freedom of a hired car, but given we used the train, we feel a bit trapped. They are barely able to accommodate guest with mobility challenges. The menu items for dinner strive for the most ordinary: a bit of beef cheek (seriously? braised to over-cooked and tasting like marrow), chicken, or a chuck of haddock. The same stuff you'd expect at the corner restaurant that dresses up with white linen and charges too much.

Very cosy with stunning views. Pre-dinner drinks in the drawing room and card games in the library after dinner made this all great fun. Quite pricey for dinner but very good. (Some local pubs have upped their game for less). Breakfast sets one up well for a good day’s exploring.

We had a great meal, very well made and tasty. But a musty smell and old fashioned decor really let the experience down. The customers were a range of ages. So I think they would welcome the change. Ham hock starter was great. And the lamb main tip top. Cheese option was great but as usual with most places, not enough crackers/bread. My wife had the soup, chicken and a very rich chocolate dessert which was all delicious! So as stated, great food but poor environment. Also, our waiters forgot three times we were having the full ‘experience’ resulting in us missing courses and having to ask for them!

Everything about the experience was OK, just not exceptional. The food was of a fairly high standard but both my Wife and myself felt it lacked a slight touch of seasoning. The service was fine and the staff were friendly but not quite attentive enough - a few times the empty plates and glasses were left a bit too long and there was no offer to re-fill wine glasses or provide additional water. I would happily eat there again and the overall experience was a good one - but I think a bit of additional training on the 'small things' would help to take things up a level.

My husband and myself travelled 35 mins to go out for a meal here as we wanted a nice meal out and we saw on the menu they had beef Wellington and my husband loves it! When we got there there was no beef Wellington on the menu or the tasting menu which was on their site! The manager heard us and we mentioned it to her and she did say that was quite a while ago and that should have been changed, someone else had also mentioned about the tasting menu as well the same night! Being that was why we came she spoke to the head chef and he came out, he said He had some beef fillet and pastry and could do one for us if we could wait half hour and look at the starters he would start it! Which was very kind of Him, he certainly went above and beyond! There are not many places that would do that for you! We had our starter and then our Wellington was ready and it was beautiful, the whole meal was excellent! He came out after to see how everything was so many thanks to the head chef and also the manager for looking after us! Very friendly and attentive, we were both very impressed!

The downside is that it is quiet and has little atmosphere which can detract from the food. maybe it was just a quiet night ?(however the hotel was full - the prices £40+ per head put people off and they will travel 5 miles for a less expensive option methinks...)

Leeming House has a comfortable lounge with lovely views from the two window seats (if you're early enough to nab them). A preprandial Kir Royale does not skimp on the cassis; rich, sweet and luxurious. In recent visits I have been regularly attended by the Polish Maitre D', and a young South African waiter, both of whom offer excellent attention and service. The dining room is perhaps a little dowdy, but it has impressive scale, and the window tables offer an excellent view. And the food is consistently good. Perhaps the menu could vary a little more often, but the quality is undoubted. The wine list offers something for most tastes and wallets.
