Regency Chinese Restaurant in York

It was tasty Chinese food. Prawn toast not as crispy as I like but still good.

How can it take 2 hours to cook and deliver food? Appalling service.

the food was cold and soggy, the restaurant did not help when we rang up didn’t understand a thing we were saying, then we ordered the food at 4:45 and did not arrive until 7.

it was beyond doubt the worst food I've ever experienced. Stone cold dry and tasteless to cap it the carton that it came in didnt even had a lid fitted properly. Just over £20 but not worth a fraction of that. I gave it a one star rating purely because I couldn't rate it lower. I will never, I repeat never order from there again

Delivery guy could be bothered knocking on the door so instead sat outside beeping his car horn and shouting out the window

Noodles were too dry not enough chicken or veg in with the noodles very disappointing

Order accepted at 6pm arrived after 7pm as expected within the time stated, however is wasn’t very warm which spoilt the whole meal

Ordered shredded chicken salt and pepper and normal salt and pepper chicken and both were the exact same . Chips were cold and the curry sauce was like water. Not happy I spent £50 on the order.

I honestly can not fault the restaurant. We really enjoyed our Halloween meal. The server was really sweet, attentive and friendly; the food was delicious and arrived quickly; the dining area was clean and tidy as always and the menu has lots to offer for the picky eaters and those who like spice and authenticity. The other great thing, and the deciding factor as to why we chose Regency tonight, is they are dog friendly and I didn't want to leave the puppy home alone with fireworks going off and trick or treaters knocking.

£70 order and didn’t even get prawn crackers

beef curry and rice was very nice I recommend it, and was delivered before time

Ordered veggie spring rolls:got meat ones. Ordered a portion of pak choy and garlic (£11!): got a tub of watery chopped cabbage, not what we usually get from here. Food is usually of good quality, but this tasted low quality and obviously wasn't what we ordered. Was offered a refund for the spring rolls. Will think twice before ordering from here again.

Chicken balls weren’t very nice. And received no sauce

Food was completely cold & inadequate for £30. The duck was on top of hiding lettuce to make it look like there was more! Never had lettuce with duck wraps ever! Started for 2 was only enough for one person. Complete waste of £30

Duck vermicelli Duck non exsistant only noodles none seen King prawn curry … runny tasteless Springer rolls x4 small chewy Would I order from here again NO My local is better value half the price stick to what you know !!!

Do not be put off by the appearance when you first step into the place. It is so misleading. Staff really friendly. Noticed no alcoholic drink on the menu. That was no problem to the staff. He popped to nearby restaurant and got what we wanted. Two course meal which was great. Will deffo be back

The waiter is rude. We ordered food and juices and then they said that the prices on the menu had gone up but the menu hadn't been updated yet and we had to pay more! absurd! this is exhausting! DO NOT come to this restaurant!

Lovely as always. Arrived a little later than prediction HOWEVER I live in Rufforth and we always know predicted times can be hit or miss. It's no bother at all, just super grateful they deliver here as no one else seems to. Food was lovely as usual and hot

the salt and pepper mixed dish was not of good quality, the chips were fried in old oil and tasted bitter, the pieces of beef and chicken were old re fried pieces of meat and we're hard and very over cooked, it lacked the salt and pepper seasoning that is supposed to give it the flavour and kick. The special in black bean sauce tasted alot better.

Was a little worried what service to expect reading previous reviews. However, we received excellent service from all the staff there. Very polite and efficient, couldn't ask for more. The food was also excellent with good vegetarian options. The spare ribs weren't red hot, but everything else was spot on and really tasty. Would definitely revisit

We had a dinner here at Regency Restaurant, food starters and mains was very nice and tasty. We enjoyed it and will be coming back again. Tofu with salt and chilli is great starter to have :)

Food arrived very late and was pretty much stale cold, really disappointing and a waste if money! Would stay away of ordering from here! It had the potential of be nice but not edible due to going stale. Definitely wasn’t kept in a thermal food bag!

The food are likely to have the authentic taste but the service was a real issues here. Expecially the male staff. They literally threw the cutlery on the table and have very rude manner. I personally wouldn't eat in the restaurant again but instead I would order online and eat somewhere else.

You didn't ask, have you ever respected us? You don't have that. So we will pursue your opinions to the end.

Worst service I’ve ever experienced in the world. One member of my party eats only halal due to their religion so they brought their own food while we ordered at the restaurant. One of the male staff came over and said that outside food is not allowed, and that all UK establishments are like that. No one from my party is from the UK so we didn’t know and told him so. He walked away and upon return I tried to explain that he only eats halal and the worker then said “I don’t care, go let him eat outside then” while laughing mockingly. In the rain? At this point, my party got upset and wanted to leave. After seeing this, he said okay, he can stay. But our party told him that what he said was very rude and that he had a horrible attitude. Even while trying to say this he was still dismissive, saying “yea, yea, yea, yea, ok.” We were so disturbed, we paid and left. I don’t write a whole lot of reviews, but this experience was so jarring I needed to warn people from coming here. No one should be disrespected in the service industry- customer or worker. This place also had a sticker at each table offering a free soda for a review- I’m guessing this is where most of their “5 star ratings” are coming from. Please do not support this restaurant.

The servers and cashier (assuming they are owners) were very rude and had obnoxious attitude towards multicultural customers. The tissue and cutlery were casually threw at the middle of the table. The tab water jar was not properly cleaned. The male server (probably the owner) told my friend to eat his food outside because he could not eat food that is not halal. Very disrespectful towards other culture and religion.

In York for holiday, found this amazing Chinese, food fab, service first class, will defo be back next time we are down in York, Alan n Liz 👍

Great, classic Chinese food. I was also very late for my take away pickup and they remade the food for me at no cost. They were very polite and understanding even though it was my fault. I was prepared to take home coldish food and reheat it myself, but they said they would just do it up for me again. I didn't eat there, but the inside was nice and clean. Would eat there if I'm ever in York again.

Triple roast is meant to be belly pork, chai su and duck. We got DRY turkey instead of duck. Also all salt and pepper box was soggy and sweaty

I would not recommend this place to any one food is not tasty and waste of money. Service is really poor . Edges of the plate were chipped and they charge 10% for dine in and then top of that we need to pay extra for ketchup and + service charge for ungiven proper service. They will not customize a bit even just serve it as it is. Even you like spicy a bit but still they will give how its comes only. So please do not waste your money or time in this place.

Went in here with my disabled son based on review that said “don’t let the outside looks put you off!” I was glad I did. The two gentlemen who looked after us were most helpful, told us not to rush… We ordered chicken fried rice with curry sauce. It was delicious and a big portion… Prices were reasonable too! Will use it again on our next visit to York!

Other dishes are OK but the roast pork and duck dishes are too bad

It might not be the flashiest Chinese restaurant on the street but the food was good and service excellent. Had set meal B for two people and there was enough to fill us without feeling too full. Food quality was good, pretty standard and as you’d expect at any Chinese restaurant.

This a some what difficult review. We visited this restaurant a number of years ago and it has totally changed. It's only because we purchased a pre - voucher we went in. If this was not the case, we almost certainly would not have gone in. If I'm honest it looks like a greasy spoon type of place. It appears to cater mainly for the local Chinese community. I'm so glad we did go in however. The food and service were absolutely superb. I can not praise the food highly enough. If you can get past the initial facade, it is worth a visit. We would definitely go back in a heart beat.

everything was great, just for £30 it was very small, bearing in mind I'm feeding myself a child and a toddler the salt and pepper box was tiny, where in other places for that price you get a lot more

Waited an hour and a half for a portion of salt&pepper chips and chicken. Called the restaurant and got told to “wait a sec” then they put the phone down. Received soggy chips and chicken that was not warm. Will not be ordering from here again absolutely disgusting.

Was unsure as the reviews were mid 3s, but nah the food was excellent. Soup was beautiful, rice and noodles tasty, the only downside was Crispy seaweed being a little under packed in the container BUT was super delicious. We live in Rufforth so was worried the order would be cancelled but it wasn't. Came 20m after initial arrival quote but you can never guarantee delivery times for takeaways, especially if you live rural. Will defo order again 👌

i was missing harth my order and I ordered noodles x2 and curry x2 exstra portions insted off noodles they sent boild rice witch is a big price difference reducules and when I proceed to ring the restaurant thye hung up every single time and wudent even answer apslotly reducules I spoke very highly off this place to friends and famly but this is reducules

Food was terrible! The chips were Re-Heated and STILL cold and did not taste of salt n pepper at all! the salt n pepper prawns were luke warm at best and even they felt re heated considering they are nearly £10! The Quarter aromatic crispy duck hardley come with any duck and wasn't even crispy! overall poor food and certainly won't be going again!

Terrible egg fried rice, bland, dry and chemical tasting. Avoid if you like rice!

I came here for lunch with a friend: a ~£15 Groupon got us two courses and a side each. The choices were (understandably) limited; I opted for Prawn Toast, Chicken in Satay Sauce and a side of Chips. We also shared some prawn crackers. It was altogether underwhelming, really. “You get what you pay for” has never been more apt.

We all had a lovely family meal ;-)
