Golden City in York

Oh what a Chinese this is. If you know Golden City you will already know what an amazing Chinese it is, but if you’ve not come across it before, don’t look any further. I have been coming here for around 13 years and my wife and her family have been coming here for around 30 years. In that time we have never had a bad meal. Honestly everything on the menu is fantastic, I haven’t tried everything but a good handful of dishes and most starters. I strongly recommend the salt and pepper chicken or prawns, chicken in black beans and the sweet and sour chicken. The prices have gone up over the years which is understandable but absolutely worth it for the portion sizes you get and the quality of the food. Thank you Golden City.

Been a regular for a long time but recently gone very downhill, out of the last 5 curry's only 1 of them was actually hot , the others were either cold or barely warm..

Food was terrible it all tasted burnt the pancake rolls where grey in colour , spare ribs where black a total waste of £60

While the service was great, I was left very disappointed with the taste of the food. There were no interesting flavours, the mushrooms were practically tossed in as an after thought, the food was not well seasoned, and there were way too many bean sprouts and not enough vegetables.

Excellent service and good food

I telephone my order through as I'm a bit away so when i get there it's ready for pick up. Lovely lady answers phone always polite and friendly. My bad hearing missed her saying egg fried rice so I said egg fried rice now cannot phone without laughing and asking for egg fried rice. She now knows who i am lol. Fantastic portion size, beef chow main, loads of beef in, noodles and a few mushrooms and onions not too many like other places do. Special fried rice wow full of meat and prawns, egg and rice. At under £20 cannot go wrong. Definitely value for money. My go to place for Chinese. Had fish and chips there too and they where also nice, cooked mostly fresh so perfect no sloppy battter. All round a fab place for take away. I have eaten some food from pictures.

So tasty!! The lemon chicken is amazing! I love the vegetables in black bean sauce and the chow Mein char Sui is lovely!! 5/5 so nice so good! ☺️☺️☺️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I used to love this Chinese. Was definitely the best in York. Sadly that's not the case anymore. Had king prawn in black bean tonight and it was just full of onions and so thin and runny. Just an onion black bean. Such a shame 😔

There food is good. There salt pepper chips are the best I've had. Even thinking about them now is making me hungry.

We found the standard of food very dissatisfying and most worrying is that we ordered vegetable spring rolls and they came stuffed with Prawns and Pork?! The menu refers to the spring rolls possibly containing nuts only. We were incredibly lucky that our family member who has a prawn allergy didn't eat this before we did! Also, no regard whatsoever for Vegetarians/Vegans who may order this dish.

Perfect every time. There is nothing on the menu I wouldn't eat. All cooked to perfection and good size portions.

use this takeaway at least once a week as it local and they know us have noticed weekly portions have been reduced e.g prawn curry normally 10 prawns each now 5 prawns each last night i had the worst chicken curry ever could not eat it chicken was dry tough totally inedible not fresh chicken ate noodles and sauce but threw all chicken out

Very generous portions. The spring rolls are a meal on their own. Good value. Currently only doing phone orders so be patient when calling as it is popular.

La Ciudad Dorada siempre es consistente en su estándar. La comida siempre es deliciosa y las cantidades son enormes. Teníamos pollo Satay, Szechuan pollo y carne y salsa de frijoles negros junto con arroz frito y patatas fritas. El precio es siempre razonable con una opción de arroz o papas fritas con cada plato. Hay un pequeño cargo extra por arroz frito. Una ventaja es la galleta gambas GRATIS con comidas de más de 20. 00 (excluye establecer cenas). Un restaurante favorito y muy recomendado.

One of the most consistent take aways in the area. Good value, pretty fast service, excellent chips (and plenty of them), and the food is good, what more would you want?

I live within walking distance and my wife decided not to cook and we opted for a Chinese Takeaway. I had a menu in the rack so we chose a SET MEAL for 2 and telephoned the order through. 20 minutes later I was back with the meal. It was tasty, delicious and plentiful. In fact, there was enough left over for a second meal. Well worth a visit
