Sky Blue in York

This is by some distance the best dim sum in York, both in selection and quality. That doesn't mean its outstanding or world class dim sum, but it's good. Some of the other dishes are hit and miss - we liked the chicken chow mein with crispy noodles and Chinese greens with garlic sauce, but one of us group tried a prawn black bean and that was a bit lacking in flavour. But to be fair that was one only one disappointing item out of a number of dishes and dim sums, so get a range of stuff and share and you'll likely have a good meal.

A bit disappointed that they no longer do a buffet, as that isn't made clear in their online presence and I was looking forward to that, but apart from that it's all positive. As soon as I placed the order for sliced fish and tofu soup, the waiter brought out some gratis prawn crackers which were very nice. After a short wait, my main course arrived and my first thought was that I wished I'd ordered the starter size, as the main course size was massive! I had to leave about half of it and one of the waiting staff very kindly offered to put the rest in a takeaway container, but as I intended wandering around York for a few hours, followed by a bus ride to Scarborough, I thought better of it. The soup was delicious though and I saw plenty of other things on the menu I'd like to try, so I'll be back. The decor and and ambience were great and the place was very clean. The waiting staff were attentive without being obtrusive and I was made to feel very welcome. Well worth a visit and in my case, another visit 😊

Ordered food from here. It took over two hours to arrive and was one hour later than the delivery slot. I called the restaurant to ask and staff were rude to me.... very upsetting experience. But the food was super tasty. Would not brave delivery again but may try collecting or eating in.....

Poor service , came in so unfriendly and cold towards us . Blamed us for him getting the wrong food when asking for shell of prawn and gave him shambali and when asking he blamed us and I offered to pay for what we had eaten due to us eating it and we asked for prawns and then said we should of stated it was pan fried . So unprofessional and wouldn’t recommend . Pure rudeness

Honestly had such a great time here with a group of 14 others. Fab atmosphere, food and service. The karaoke was so much fun and we will definitely be back! Thank u everyone, especially Miss Gaga! ♥️

Came with 15 people and they looked after us so well! The food booze and karaoke combined to deliver an occasion so momentous I briefly considered the possibility that I would die of an aneurism, right then and there. Thankfully I didn’t die and as a result will return one day to crank out more hot girl anthems with the girlies!! 🤪🤪🤪

Astonishing experience at Sky Blue. Delicious food, vibrant decor, and staff that simply COULD NOT do enough. My only complaint is that it has surely ruined all future eateries for me. Top notch.

First time back in a few years and we were very impressed with both the food and service. Lots of choice on the menu.

I do not understand AT ALL how this place has 3.9 stars (as of this review). It's a legitimate place and it gets crowded. Naturally everyone waits if they are truly interested in an authentic experience. Food was amazing, staff took care of us well, and we were given a table well before the promised wait time of 30 minutes. The food this place has is authentic Hong Kong asian cuisine. Particularly the dim sum. I have not been to such a good Chinese restaurant (the last one was San Francisco, which has a large Asian population). Go with an Asian/Chinese friend who knows the authenticity of this type of food, and then see if they'll be satisfied. You wouldn't be disappointed.

Got to the restaurant 30 mins early and they got us straight to our table, amazing food with great service. We shall be back on our return to York in the near future. Many thanks for a lovely evening.

Probably the best authentic Chinese restaurant in York. The dim sum was good although the portions were huge meaning you can't order as many different varieties.

I can't believe how few reviews this restaurant has had. I've been 4 times in the last 18 months and I'll keep going back. There is a long and varied menu, catering for those that like really authentic Chinese dishes and those who like the old favourites. There's excellent service and if you fancy a singalong then take a party upstairs for karaoke after your meal. There could be a slightly better wine selection but otherwise all I can recommend is that you don't over order. The portion sizes are very large. It's very close to the Barbican Theatre so give it a try.

This restaurant was very friendly and very clean, we had the Buffet for 2 People, which was excellent but beware, there was far too much for 1 sitting, so they offered us a box to take home what we didn’t finish, would definitely recommend.

Ordered a takeout on Deliveroo. Waited for two hours, stayed patient, didn’t rush the restaurant or called them. Then after a long wait I got the notification that my order got canceled with no other messages. So disappointed. Waited for vain and didn’t even get an apology. Won’t order from this place ever again. What a disappointment.

It was a disaster! Delivery was really slow I waited 2 hours from 5am for my order to be delivered the delivery GPS is not visible on deliveroo. the lamb that was delivered was cold and had a bad smell to it. I didn't know whether to eat them or not and in the end I threw them in the bin. The rubbish bin was probably a better place to eat them. I wouldn't order it again whether it's delivered or dine-in. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Absolutely incredible, the food was amazing, piping hot and freshly made. The staff were so helpful and constantly bringing food out. Best Chinese weve had as a family by far.

Proper Chinese food decent quality and price Bit too much salt

I went here with some friends to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, and the owner was so generous as to give our table a moon cake! This is the perfect place to celebrate with a group of friends. When I went, the menu prices ranged from £12-£18 per main, and £3-£7 per dim sum. The menu also provides options for all levels of spice tolerance and food preferences.

The menu had so many different dishes not on typical Chinese menus and the food was absolutely amazing. We were staying nearby and stumbled across this restaurant and we've just had the best Chinese meal we've ever had. If you are staying in York make this a destination for a meal.. You won't be disappointed.

Went on Saturday with our granddaughter to celebrate first week at uni......no booking but found us a table.....Wow.....best food ever.....fantastic service....friendly staff....we loved the experience and will be back......meg and ken

Terrible service. I ordered from deliveroo and this restaurant does not have a GPS tracking service. The ETA was 22:55, I got a missed call from a suspected spam number at 22:59. I called it back thinking it was the delivery person but the number didn't work, I then got a missed call from the deliveroo office so called them back and they told me the delivery person "had been waiting outside for half an hour and had to leave and that I wouldn't get a refund" the delivery person never even rang the door bell or even knocked on the door! And at this point it was still only 15 minutes past the estimated delivery time anyway! The address I entered on the app had a door number so why on earth did they not ring the bell?! Or knock on the door! The restaurant manager told me they would refund me but when I called deliveroo back they said that the manager did not want to authorise a refund, so they had lied to me on the phone! I have never complained about anything in my life but this service is despicable!

we came for our daughters birthday and the food was exceptional, authentic and tasty, the staff very friendly and helpful ( couldn’t do enough for us) if you want lovely food and pleasant staff that go the extra mile try this place out it’s well worth it

Visited the Sky Blue/Regency Chinese Restaurant for the first time today and could not be happier with the experience! The food was delicious, the staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was beautiful and incredibly relaxing. Honestly, such a lovely place, whether you choose to go there for an occasion or just a nice dinner out! Definitely going to be visiting again.

Went to eat for dinner yesterday and I am so happy with my food! The steam fish tasted really good and so did the stir fry green beans! The service is also really good and food came pretty fast too. They also have a variety of dim sum that you can choose from.

The food is amazing and so fresh , it’s our favourite Chinese takeaway & wouldn’t go else where . Unfortunately I feel the delivery side is very slow we’ve had to wait nearly 1.5/2hrs food is worth the wait but just wished was a little quicker & understand they may have rush hour . Also feel if you spend £70+ would be nice to have some freebies I.e prawn crackers

Food nothing like menus and rude staff just shrug their shoulders when asked. I could cook better Asian food with a pack of instant noodles !

Visited for dinner. Easy parking at rear of restaurant. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Food was excellent, and are even able to advise on what gluten free options are available on an extensive menu. Restaurant was spotless. Would highly recommend especially if you’re coeliac.

As a table for 9 we went for dim sum this afternoon. We don't live locally so we were a bit sceptical of the food quality. The food took quite some time to arrive and some basic dim sum dishes like egg tarts and char siu puffs were only available on weekends. However, once the food did arrive, it was amazing!! Really generous portion sizes and the dishes were definitely fresh, so you could see why it took longer than usual to prepare. No fault in the food at all, despite some dishes not being available there was still plenty to eat. There were also some unique dishes such as durian puffs and prawn scallop dumplings. My traditional Chinese family was impressed.

We ate here 2 days in a row during our visit. The food was excellent and when you see dim-sum, you eat dim-sum. Dumplings were good, Szechuan beef and fried rice also good.

We had a lovely banquet for 13 of us. The food was amazing and there was lots of it. We finished our night with 2 hours in a karaoke room which was lots of fun, and the service was fab.

Honestly... the best Chinese I've ever been too. I've taken my family here and they all agree 💯 The food is always amazing, seasoned so well and the portions are larger than others. I always go for the spicy mini mutton chops with egg fried rice😋 . My recommendation is to go and dine in the restaurant itself as it's a fab restaurant and the service is always kind and attentive.

Amazing!!! I came here for my hen do on Saturday evening, and we had the best time. The food is amazing, best Chinese food I have had. But the staff were what really made it. They were so friendly, attentive and accommodating and really made sure that we had a great time. My mam has coeliac disease, and the manager/owner came over and explained everything she could have, and amended dishes so that she could enjoy her meal with us without having to worry. We then went upstairs to the karaoke bar which was amazing!’ The staff kept the drinks flowing and even joined in on a couple of songs! All in all, would highly recommend and I would definitely go back.

Exceptional service - we had particular preferences on how hot certain dishes were and these were all accomodated. Also, we had a vegan with us, and some dishes were tweaked to make them vegan. The food was served piping hot, exactly to our spiciness choices, and the servings were HUGE. My son had had a starter as well as a main and couldn't finish as it was so rich, and was given a tub to take the remainder home. I couldn't fault this place, both service and food were super. I'll definitely go back when in York again

Celebrated my 30th birthday here at the weekend with food in the restaurant and karaoke upstairs. It was brilliant ! The food was delicious, the staff were very accomodating and friendly and the karaoke was fantastic, so much fun. We all had a fab time and can't wait to do it again. Thanks again to the SkyBlue staff for a great night.

Great location and the variety of dishes make this a place worth visiting. The portions are large and the quality of the food is excellent. Staff were very helpful.

If I could give this place 0 stars... I would. Where do I start... Ordered a simple sweet and sour chicken NO VEG with fried rice, and sweet and sour chicken balls with chips... First time the delivery came, the food was stodgy, freezing cold and greasy and clearly not fresh, the delivery driver also refused to come to the door, even though I said I had a broken foot. (He claims he didn't hear me). I rang and complained about the food and the driver and was assured by the manager that my food would be cooked fresh and brought to me personally but himself. I then received a call 20 minutes later stating that the driver was coming back and would apologize. When the food came back to me, the driver did apologize (although he should of brought to my door in the first place)... But the food actually came back worse, which I didn't think was possible.... The fried rice was once big greasy cold block (I have a video of my partner hitting it with a knife and it not even moving, just bouncing up and down like jelly.. what a joke... Rice is supposed to fall apart) and to make matters worse, the sweet and sour chicken came back with vegetables in it... So my partner couldn't even eat it due to a health condition... The chips were also clearly frozen chips that had been fried and the sweet and sour chicken balls were covered in grease. This time, I COULDN'T EVEN RING BACK AS THEY HAD CLOSED..whole order went in bin both times, and me and my partner went without food tonight.

We had a great night here last night for dinner then karaoke. The food was really nice (and big portions!) and the staff were friendly and helpful. Although I've been before for karaoke, I had been hesitant to eat here for a while as many years ago I didn't have a good experience from the restaurant that used to be here (different name back then) but it has very much improved since then. I will definitely come back/order takeaway again.

Lovely quality food. I had the crab and sweet corn soup, then I requested reduced spice on the lamb ribs and can say they were just right for me. The house wine was nice too. The service was excellent too. Staff so helpful. I found the visit a little expensive overall but all in all a good experience. Maybe another few months before next visit. P.s. free parking can be difficult to find, only after 6pm is the nearby "ncp" free I'm told.

Great quality for the price and the Special Lunch menu is good.Nice decor and great service. Worth finding this gem with a great view of the York wall.

Delicious food large portions wasn't expecting that for the price on the menu definitely will be coming back

We recently took our daughter here for a birthday meal, and karaoke. A few weeks prior to coming she had experienced an anaphylactic reaction in a (completely different) restaurant, despite them being told of her nut allergy. As such she was understandably extremely anxious at the thought of eating out again. She needn't have been. The staff at Sky Blue went out of their way not just to ensure that her dish was nut free, but to explain which oils they would be cooking with, and all the processes they use in the kitchen. They reassured her at a time where it was really needed, and it would be impossible to exaggerate how great a difference their approach made - we are very grateful for it. Not only did it mean that she had a great night, but it restored a good deal of confidence too. That alone would be enough for a 5 star review but, in addition, the food was truly excellent, and the portions very generous. We hired one of their karaoke rooms for entertainment afterwards, and again had a great time, and they looked after us brilliantly. Thank you to the whole team, and absolutely recommended.

We decided to order delivery for the night. Found this place and the food looked really good at a good price. So we decided to give it a go. We were glad we did. We ordered the steamed pork buns(in Hawaii we cal them Manapua),...

I don’t know why the people give these three star. This literally is the top tier Chinese restaurant in Yorktown.

My beef noodles were so tasty and surprisingly very cheap for that huge portion. Had to pack half of it to go as I couldn’t finish it. And thats coming from someone who likes to eat a lot. Really good value for money. Can’t wait to come back. I personally hate it when food at the restaurant comes barely warm, so it very pleasant that the food here was proper warm / hot. You could tell it was just freshly cooked and served immediately. Overall cosy vibe with very kind stuff, lots of options on the menu.

This is the worst service I have ever received from a takeaway in my life. My family used to come to you and give massive recommendations. After the service tonight I will never use you again. Your food has plummeted massively. And your service even more. Telling us it's not your problem food was left of our order and you would send it tomorrow. I will never use you again.

This place has 2 menus: the English version of Chinese food and the Chinese version of Chinese food. I have only ever eaten from the Chinese menu and it has always been great. People I know who have eaten from the English version say it's okay. If you like the real thing, you'll like Regency.

DO NOT order from here! Firstly my order was over 30 minutes late. My order was pretty much cold and the chow mein I ordered was rock hard like uncooked noodles and totally inedible. The rest of the food tasted of nothing and expensive for what I got.

The menu didn't appear very appealing as they had meals such as brains and pig trotters in it but the food we had was delicious.

We went here for a weekday late lunch/ early dinner. Delicious dim sum with lots of variety of options! Huge portion of congee which was really tasty. Would definitely recommend for the dim sum. We didn't try any of the food from the main menu, but might have to at some point.

I have been there 6 times. Well above average for a Cantonese/ Hong Kong style restaurant in Europe. Price is not high. Highly recommended if you visited York.

Huge portions, food was really good. The dish I had was way too spicy for me at first (despite it only being rated 2 chilli's on the menu), thankfully the staff were absolutely lovely and offered to replace it with a less spicy version as I was clearly struggling 😅 Prawn crackers at the start and orange slices after the meal were nice touches too!

I had such a lovely birthday meal at Sky Blue. We booked to use one of the karaoke rooms which I heard is fun and I didn't expect too much of the meal but it was absolutely brilliant. The staff where SO nice, the restaurant really authentic and the food was absolutely delicious. I am vegetarian and was so happy and took lots of leftovers home too. We had the best night and karaoke was super fun. Thank you so much for taking such good care of us. Alice

Had my leaving do there last night and booked the private dining room. We stayed for just over 3 hours and were never rushed.by the attentive staff. The food was fantastic and can especially recommend the set menu for 2 with the quarter duck course. As 4 of us were having this it is still the same price with 2 extra mains added. Loved the pork in black bean sauce which we chose as an extra dish although everything was cooked well. The staff were more happy to box up leftovers to take home. Several of my colleagues said they are definitely returning again as they loved the food.

I do not understand the bad reviews here. Pleasant atmosphere, very good food, reasonable prices but the best of all: exceptional service! Attentive and discreet, not pushy or rushing. One of the people in our table had an allergy and staff were exceptionally helpful. I would def recommend! They also do very good karaoke rooms, again with great service and attentive staff. We had the best time!

Eating in, of course. You shouldn't do anything else. Some of the best Szechuan food I had outside of Szechuan. Be aware that one main dish easily serves 2 to 3, and then, enjoy the ride!

The building itself absolutely beautiful it's not what a expected it really surprised me it's super cute, The staff the most friendly staff I have ever had serve me I never met such friendly and kind people they where super chatty and very helpful they made sure we where satisfied with everything which we definitely where and the food WOW!!! it was the best Chinese i have ever had definitely coming back since the pricing was good it was all worth every penny

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS RESTAURANT. I ordered today at 5:30pm with an 45 minute delivery time. Half of my order was missing and the food that did arrive was not what I ordered. I rang the restuarant directly and they said they would send the correct order in 30 minutes. 45 minutes later, I ring and they say I need to continue waiting. In total it has taken 2 hours and I have had to order food from somewhere else.

We ordered a Cantonese-style roast duck for takeaway, which is horrible, because it was deep fried?! This is unbelievable!!!

Ordered for takeaway at 6:42, it arrived at 8:47. I called the restaurant to find out what was taking so long and they ignored what I said and told me the food was 'on the way'? Mediocre food anyway... I've ordered from here a couple of times in the past and the delivery time was always just over an hour, slower than most. But today really pushed it over the line. Won't order from here again.

We're there for new year eve dinner. It's tasty, good meal. Chilli chicken was superb. Staffs are friendly. Recommended mainland Chinese food if you're around. Just a go and try it. Happy New Year.

Went here with family today after panto and for the 9 of us it was fantastic. Amazing food made to order, super friendly staff, authentic tasty and delicious food. And the menu had actual picture so you can try with confidence new things from the menu. 1 table to fit us all and a rotating middle so we could all share. 10 out of 10. Thankyou.
