Reema Contemporary in Darlington

I called in tonight for a takeaway. The ordering process was quick and dealt with politely and efficiently. The 20 minute turnaround that I requested was not a problem. All that aside, the quality of the food was supreme.

I learned a long time ago that dining alone in a restaurant rarely works well. But it was a very warm evening with many sitting at outside tables at the adjoining bars, so the restaurant was completely empty on arrival. No matter, I had something to read and am well used to dining alone. Ordered one of the special dishes and aside from value for money (not a trivial consideration) had nothing to commend it. A lot of food, not much taste. A little spice but nothing specific. Reminded me of a packeted curry powder in the 1970s. Atmosphere was always going to be difficult but alas the sound system didn’t help. A little Indian style music but after a few minutes someone decided to change the tune, so we went through ten minutes of “channel hopping”. Rather like searching for a station on a DAB radio, we had ten seconds of something, followed repeatedly but ten seconds of something else. Another atmosphere booster was the man who came in (not sure whether he was there for a takeaway or just a known passer by, who entered into lengthy and loud conversation with one of the staff. I assume she learned a lot as he clearly thought she knew nothing. I admire her tolerance. Had this been in a trendy locale, say Islington in London or the Northern Quarter in Manchester he would probably have been lynched. Absolutely not the venues fault, but it didn’t help. We’re it not for the very reasonable pricing, this would have only one star. I now come to Darlington very regularly, but shan’t be coming back here.

Fast friendly service. Accommodated a few extra requests. Great flavours and taste as well as a perfect level of spice. Fantastic beers, attentive staff. I've seen some negative comments further down, but this restaurant was much more welcoming, friendly, better service, quality of food and cheaper than others located nearby. Highly recommended.

We have always ordered Currys to be delivered from Reema and have continuously been absolutely fantastic however tonight we thought they had been a change of chef as our Currys were totally different in taste. There was very little taste to my husbands Jalfrezi and my tikka masala I always order with added extra spice just tasted of white pepper. Also poppadoms arrived with a warm salad and no mango chutney etc therefore these could not be eaten. I made contact with the restaurant to be told we could be offered a discount on our next order however we were totally disappointed as our Currys we couldn’t eat were binned. unfortunately with the result of this we will no longer be ordering an Indian takeaway from Reema.

Saturday evening and the Restaurant was empty with the exception of 1 other table, was very cold and looked a bit unloved. Saying all that the food was good, dips starters mains and naans all very tasty

So dissapointed with our visit since the last time. Used to be a nice cosy Restaurant. Not anymore. Really in need of an overhaul. Very tired looking. It was cold as door opening all the time due to its takeaway service. They did move us to upstairs area. Food order came one hour later. Saturday night not alot in , but think take aways take priority . Food was OK but won't go back as too many nicer Indians in town now. Such a shame really to see it like this.

We were very impressed by our meals and also the friendliness and efficiency of the staff. One of our friends had special dietary requirements and this was addressed perfectly. We enjoyed the food and service so much that we have arranged a birthday meal at Reema in October.

Table for 3 bank holiday Monday no problem. Food was excellent not too spicy and service was great. We might have found our go too Indian restaurant

Can’t complain with service or the food what I can complain is the owner of this restaurant some how finding my young daughter on social media and sending friend requests posing with cars. Very unprofessional and not sure how he found her either we thought we went to a family run business. Will never return again

Ordered online, was given a collection time of 6:05, but they had lost the order when I arrived. Asked me to wait until they had prepared it. Having paid, no choice really

Just had excellent takeaway dinner. Prompt and courteous delivery to our home. First class meal. Ate and loved every bit!

It had been a while since I last ate here and discovered that my old mate Abdul had retired and a younger generation had taken over we were well looked after by Roxanne and her colleague and the food was as good as ever. All the starters were great and I recommend the butter chicken. I look forward to the next time we return.

We booked a table at Reema, our first meal out since lock down started and we weren’t disappointed. The table clothes have been removed so tables can easily be cleaned. Hand sanitizer is available when you go in. The food was as delicious as ever and we were left to enjoy our meal without too many visits to the table to see if we were ok. The tables which were used were well spaced out. Well done, you are doing a fantastic job despite everything we are going through.

Visit here every few months and although it wasn’t bad, now it’s under new management WOW !What a difference meals taste fantastic with lots a flavour and plenty of meat. Sauces all look natural and no bright food colouring.New staff attentive and both quick and eager to serve. Will definitely go back again and recommend it for a night out.

I went to the place with few of my mates from University. The place located in a silent and quiet area top of coniscliffe road. It's an amazing experience to be there with a great service and the food is banging aswell as in my thoughts it's one of top class chefs here and the taste of curry is proper and only food i liked in the area around. It's under new management they made it even better and looks so good inside here feels like proper deshi and its cozy to be honest. I rate it 10 on 10, to all of you, who's looking to dine in to a proper indian restaurant come down here. Amazing at all ❤

Visited here last Saturday with my wife for a meal. Been here many times over the years. The carpet, toilets have been refurbished however the quality and taste of the food has improved a great deal. Quick service and similar prices as usual. I'll be visiting more often now.

Have been here before and this is a great location for me near the good quality bars in connisliffe road but this time we were a party of 12 and despite an interesting seating/table arrangement service was excellent. I had the liver tikka to start which was unusual but nice and a chicken madras with a bit of extra spice for mains which was perfect for my taste. Others had interesting selections some of which were incredibly bright colours but which tasted fine. Good curry at decent prices

Although the food was well cooked, all meals were far from recognisable as an Indian dish and actually tasted more like a very bland risotto or stew. Maybe the chef forgot to add any spice to the dishes but it’s odd that these meals, all of which were different styles of curry, had virtually no real flavour. We’ve dined here many times before and never experienced the same problem so something must have gone wrong on this occasion. Maybe the chef’s scales need a new set of batteries?

We visited this Indian on a recomdation and we weren't dissapointed. The staff were very courteous, food came out in a good time. Fresh and hot. This is one of the best indian meal i have had in a while. It was an overall great experience I highly recommend it.

Visited couple of weeks ago with 4 family members & we were the only ones in for sit down meal at 7pm. Very polite staff. Starters arrived & the 2 of us who ordered liver tikka could have repaired a lorry tire with it - totally inedible. Mains arrived 5 mins after the rice & chapati were served so nice and cold by then. Nearly all the mains & sides were luke warm at best - had to send a couple of sides back as they were actually room temp cold, in hind sight should have sent the lot back as none of the dishes were acceptable, obviously had been sat out on a surface for ages. I asked for a madras strength chicken dish which was so mild I could hardly taste it. All in all a very disappointing time & expected better culinary/service skills. Waiter asked if we had enjoyed the meal & I said not & he walked off. Front of house member of staff was very genuinely apologetic & did deduct the 2 starters which were basically untouched, my main & 2 sides. Used to enjoy coming here. Will not return for sit down or takeaway.

Recommend by a local so glad we went on arrival Hasam our waiter couldn't have been more polite and helpful. Poperdoms free with lovely dips. we both had corona beers. We both had starters could have been a main such a large portion. I had onion bhaji and the wife a tikka pitta. We both ordered the specials of jalfreizie, which included rice and naan it was plain but they changed the naan to garlic ones. food arrived and huge portions and included a complimentary bombay potatoes, which were lovely. We only managed to eat one portion of the jalfrizie, rice and naan between us as portions so large. We asked for a doggy bag and they were more than happy to do this. Next time back in darlington this is the place we will be going to. The bill was very reasonable for the huge portions we received.

I’ve visited the Reema on many occasions but hadn’t been for maybe 3 years. The food and service was of a great standard as it always has been and you get some nice touches like free popadoms and a pickle tray along with a Bombay Aloo with your main course.

What a gem of a place. The waiter advised us of the drinks menu and suggested if we needed anything different they would be delighted to source it for us. He then sorted out a recommendation of starters and mains. the food was Suberin and the staff were absolutely fabulous can’t wait to go back,

We were here as a group of 14 and agreed a fixed price of £15 per head and for that we had... Poppadoms and pickle trays Mixed starter platters Curry, rice and naan bread The service was good and the food was really good.

We had friends visiting from Suffolk and popped into town for a couple of drinks (The Quakerhouse and Bar 22) and decided to pick up a takeaway for supper. Very reasonably priced and tasty. We were also very pleasantly surprised by the complimentary goodies included with our meal. The meal was good on first sitting - but with some fresh rice and the addition of some spinach, mushrooms and tomatoes also provided a very tasty meal the next day.

Had a couple of pints in 22's followed by a curry which was really really good. We shared a liver starter between two - something I've never had before. For mains I had a lamb dish from the bottom of the menu with extra spice a shared vegetable rice and breads and a complimentary bombay potatoes. This was an excellent curry - highly recommended

Myself and a couple of colleagues visited here and the surroundings and general feel of the place was very nice, a typical Indian restaurant set up (minus a fish tank).

Visited reema with my family for a birthday meal , service was great and the food was 10/10 we received popodoms complimentary and also a side dish of Bombay aloo because I’ve been coming to reema for a good few years now so they’ve looked after me on my birthday which am so happy for! Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to have a nice relaxing meal with family or even friends

Very disappointed after taking a work colleague to Reema which has always been a favourite of mine. The service was very poor and really slow. Also the food was not nice and seemed different to any other time we have eaten there. It felt like the restaurant was under new owners??

I love this restaurant! back again for a meal out with The Lads; Abdul always makes us very welcome. They get the most wonderful King Prawns and the Butter Chicken is to die for! The staff are very friendly and the food is always good. Nice to go first to Number 22 next door for a few beers.

Been awhile since I ate here, quiet on an early evening mid week night.

Have stopped by a couple of times recently after work. A lovely meal of Biryani - work colleague from Brum said also a delicious meal. Nice restaurant setting too handily situated next to the best pub in town. Will be going again soon.

A group of us booked last minute and from the moment we walked in we were superbly looked after.

I have visited this restaurant many times over the last 10 years when travelling on business. I can honestly say I’ve never had a bad meal and the service has always been excellent.

Yet again I've been let down by a poor curry house with people playing at it...the food was Luke warm and the curries were so bland it was untrue..

The staff are always so friendly here and always seem so happy for your custom. The food is absolutely delicious and they often give you a free condiment which is always gracefully received :) I would highly recommend and they serve till late

Unusual for Indian restaurants to have freebies and this had two - starters and a Bombay potato side which was a nice touch. I had a madras strength chicken curry which I think was neega but could be wrong - anyway it was very good. Veg pilau and a delicious lentil side dish blended in very well. All in all a good quality and ample quantity meal for a reasonable price

We had a take away from Reema last night and it was outstanding! Chicken tikka and chicken shashlik with pilau rice for my husband and I. It was so tasty, delicious and even felt quite healthy! It's going to be a regular treat for us.

The stater I had was excellent: Pitta Murgh, spicy and tasty chicken in a chapati, but then I asked for a 15 min wait for the main course, which resulted in a luke warm & uninspiring Gostaba Lamb which consisted of a few chunks of lamb in a thick brown sauce which had no solid vegetables within it, they kindly gave me a Bombay Potato side dish which has to the worst version of this dish I've ever had, several potatoes, 2 large chunks of green pepper & a little of a watery sauce, nothing like a traditional version of this dish. Worse was to follow as I could not sleep due to unbelievable wind, sorry for graphic detail but it further detracted from that eating experience. I will not be returning when next I visit Darlo.

Ordered a takeaway which are meant to be 20% cheaper than sit in prices according to their website. Got home to find my main was the size of a half portion, the container was no where near full. Luckily I ordered a starter. The shrimps hadnt been deveined which was off putting. When sitting in you receive good sized meals which are always very good. Because i get takeaways often I dont think Ill be returning anytime soon.

Recently went here with a group of 6. No booking required a good table. Great service by staff, all very friendly and welcoming. We all had a different curry and no complaints from anywhere on the table. Good portions, good value no complaints and will be going again!

I have been to this restaurant many times in the last few years; it's become our local staple place for a very good Indian. The food is always very good, occasionally excellent as it was for this particular takeaway. They don't have the traditional dishes in their menu, however they will cook pretty much anything upon request. A couple of things let the place down. It's never the food, but the service is usually standard but nothing great. It could certainly be better. The restaurant itself could also be a little better however now I am being really picky. Would certainly return.

Went over Christmas for traditional lad's curry night. Wasn't particularly looking forward to it, as have never been blown away at Reema, and service in past has been a bit hit and miss. However, can have no complaints this time around. Service was efficient, and food was far tastier than I remember from previous visits. Now on the list for another visit.

Booked a table of 4 a week ago for 6.30 specifically asked if they were open new years day to which they said yes. We got to the restaurant at 6.15 and found it to be closed. Thankfully Cafe Spice was open and we are currently enjoying a fantastic meal

A table had been booked for a Saturday night the week before dining for 4 people. My wife and I turned up at 7pm sharp and were shown to the table for 4 (a round table for 4 but positioned against the wall to make it a tight table for 4). My fellow diners were running a little late. My wife and I ordered drinks. The owner then asked whether fellow diners were coming to which we responded they were. He then came over a minute later and said something along the lines of “It’s Saturday before Christmas. We’re really busy. Are they coming?” I again said yes and he continued to go on for no reason. They turned up at 7.12pm! We left the restaurant at 8.50pm so it’s not as though we were such an inconvenience. I didn’t feel what happened warranted the owner’s badgering. My wife and I each had the Reema special starter (different tandoori meats in a rich paste served with a roti) which was tasty. I had the chicken tikka masala and my wife a vindaloo which was very average. The Bombay potatoes were undercooked, still being hard in the middle. Service apart from the aforementioned was not bad the rest of the night but with the overall very average food and in my opinion poor customer service at the start of the meal, no more than a 2 star ‘poor’ rating can be justified.

One of the best Indian retaurants in the area.Tasty and well prepared food from a comprehensive but not ridiculously long menu. Pleasnt and comfortable surroundings.Excellent. friemdly service, this restaurant obviously attracts a lot of regulars.

Our group of four had a rehearsal in the Hash bar next door, so on a recommendation from a friend we decided to 'pop' in here beforehand for an early evening meal. The place was empty when we arrived at 6.30pm., but rapidly filled up over the next hour, and was full when we left at 7.45pm. We were welcomed and seated by our very friendly waiter. Our drinks were brought very promptly while we perused the extensive menu. We ordered main meals only, and we were presented with complementary popadoms and chutneys etc. while we waited. The meals were all excellent, very tasty, and generous portions. there were a couple of complementary side dishes added also. We were well waited on, and the whole place was clean and well presented. Value was fantastic, with our bill for four people including drinks being under £65. If I was to be 'super pickey', we had to ask for the bill twice, which was only a potential issue as we had an appointment. Although we reassured them that it wasn't a major problem, they were very apologetic. Would recommend this place to anyone who likes Indian cuisine, nice place, nice food, nice staff.

Before entering the establishment, we thought it was a take-away place due to the bright and blue-white light. And just inside the door, some people were sitting against the wall with their coats on just waiting for their take-away. However, we entered anyway, and found a less noisy, less bright, and slightly more crowded part with dining guests on the first floor. The service was good. They forgot to tell us that the dishes are so rich in taste and amount, that we could well do without the starters. Besides, the starters were quite rich and tasty themselves, that we could almost do without the main course. They said they didn't serve Lassi, due to a low demand among the guests. This was my first Indian restaurant that didn't offer Lassi. That was disappointing. Anyway, the food was otherwise excellent and may well be recommended. The lighting of the restaurant may well be adjusted down to a cosy level.

Visited with partner friday evening. Really good starters , mine been chicken wrapped in a savoury type pancake and very filling. Partner had prawns which she enjoyed. We then shared a spring lamb in spinach dish. Again very filling and packed full of tender lamb with no fat. Sometimes i find the lamb fatty or chewy this was not the case. All very reasonable cost with a few drinks, which again were well priced for a restaurant and cheaper than some pubs in town

The food is delicious whether you eat in or take out! The staff are always friendly and often give complimentary sides which is nice. I would highly recommend the rogan josh, it's very tasty!

We haven't been to Reema for a while and now I remember why. Nice place, good service, handy location but nothing especially contemporary or different here. I actually found the the food unnecessarily greasy which is why we stopped going before. It hasn't changed much.

Visited twice in the last two months. Early evening. Different dishes each time. The food has been excellent and the service very good. If you fancy a dish but feel it may be a little too spicy ask to spice it down. They are very helpful. The flavours were stunning. Potions are on the large side so if you don't eat it all and want it ask to take it home. Mine was a very nice lunch the next day.

I was on business looking for somewhere to eat in Darlington and I walked into this Indian restaurant not knowing anything about it. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and super polite and seated me very quickly.The food was excellent and very good value for money although I am comparing to London prices. The restaurant has a good atmosphere, although it was quiet when I visited.

The staff were pleasant and attentive whilst me and my friends were having a meal. After hearing some mixed reviews in the last month or so I thought we should give it benefit of the doubt. I can safely say I'm glad I did the food was delicious and was served promptly. Reemas has certainly raised the bar once again. The only think I didn't really like was the purple lighting but let's be honest I wasn't there for the lighting experience. This is a must for Indian dining.

Have been to Reema a few times, usually for meals with a group of twelve or so people from work.However last night I visited with my brother for a quiet meal, and came away very pleased.The staff are welcoming, polite and very accommodating - and were able to answer any questions on menu choices.The food was well prepared and of course delicious, and we left very happy (and full) at the end of the evening.

Friendly atmosphere , quickly seated and drinks brought . Good choice on menu . Food arrived promptly and tasted delicious . Child friendly.

We are regular customers here, we have been using this place for years now and it is one of the best in Darlington.The food is good quality I especially like the Resala, it delicious. The staff are friendly and look after you during your visit. The place itself is small and cosy, we prefer to sit upstairs as they do a roaring takeaway trade so if sat down stairs you sometimes have people waiting around for their food.Give it a go in sure you'll enjoy

I had arranged a curry club night for restaurant full capacity of 40 people. The staff were so attentive and food amazing. We we're brought in timely manner a selection of starters/mains/sides and each dish served to help yourself which is great concept for trying something new. Plus we were told what each dish was. We were then invited in pairs to visit the kitchen for live cookery demonstration which several took the offer up and loved it. We cannot thank the chef and management enough for hosting a fantastic night great food and full tummies!! Thankyou

I visited with two ex-colleagues from where I worked prior to retiring. The restaurant is central but on a quieter road within town.The presentation of the place is very good and the staff professional and welcoming.If you are not a regular Indian food diner, they are helpful with descriptions and advice.The food is excellent.I strongly recommend Reema to anyone looking for quality food in a clean, well presented restaurant.

We have been going to Reema for years, and our most recent visit was to celebrate a family birthday. The naan breads are the best anywhere and We have never had a bad meal here.

I visited with friends for the first time. Reema came recommended. We started with poppadoms and these came followed immediately by the starters and so as there was seven of us, there was no room on the table. The food was nice and hot in temperature but lacked spice. Therefore, two of us sent the mains back. When they came back they were slightly better but not by much. We ate up and left full. Despite this the food was edible and pleasant, just needed a bit of spice.I would go back, but make sure that I asked for extra spice when ordering.

I Have been here a few times over the years and it does not change much.Quite close to the town center, it is quiet on a weekday and busy over the weekend. The place has seen better days but that is the same for most of the Indian restaurants in the town, service is alright and the food no different to all the others.Large portions so do not bother with a starter and they serve both cobra and kingfisher beers, nothing else to review as it does not stand out above the others.

Me and my friends have tried Reema before but we've been again recently since the new decor and the food was amazing!! The portions are really good and I ordered the chicken balti dish and it was perfect amount of spice! Getting a takeaway for my family next week ha!

HiI visited this restaurant a while back and wrote a review as it was fantastic. So I have been back again with family and I must say it just gets better. The food is delicious and well presented. The chef made our food to our specific requirements and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The service was outstanding and we will be going back whenever we fancy Indian food as it really is the best Indians in town. Fabulous. Keep up the good work and mouth watering food coming xxxx

Have been here twice and both times the service has been of poor quality. The food is perfectly fine, average Indian food but the service itself just isn't good enough. There are plenty of other Indian restaurants which offer a more enjoyable experience and we won't return

Very nice food, with polite and helpful service. We went for a birthday celebration and the staff were very obliging to accommodate for a separate table for the adults and younger members of the group. The interior of the restaurant was slightly shabby (though only very slightly, and this was largely down to the building itself, rather than design etc.). Though the restaurant was very quiet, it maintained a pleasant and authentic atmosphere. Overall, a lovely restaurant with good food and very good service.

I've always been impressed with the quality of the food and service at the Reema. The food is always slightly different from the norm as they enhance traditional Indian dishes with new subtle flavours and spices. The service tonight when I went with my son and mother surpassed its usual high standard, in particular with a wonderful Liver Tikka and Butterfly Chicken for starters before our main courses. I asked for a Lassi to refresh my taste buds at the end of the meal and even though it wasn't on the menu a delicious fresh Lassi was soon with me with the minimum of fuss.

Nice warm welcome on a quiet night. Nicely decorated and tables were beautifully laid.Poppadoms - light and crispy. Chopped onion salad and Raita were delicious, mango chutney of pouring consistency and not sure what the fourth pot contained.Sheek kebab - fresh tasting and spicy Special Chicken Bhuna - included three very large portions. Bhuna was as expected, the rice was very good and full of vegetables and Naan bread large and heavy, I prefer mine light and puffy.Nice to receive complimentary Bombay Potato, which I could not eat as there was so much food!!House wine was drinkable and appeared to come in small size only.

I've visited Reema many times and I've never been disappointed. I visited in both January (with a big group) and February (as a couple). The January visit was lovely - both food and service. They brought out a complementary dish which contained meat, however I'm vegan so was unable to eat this; the waiter must have overheard and brought out a vegan side dish for me which I thought was a really nice touch. Again, the visit in February was just as good. Another complementary dish was brought out (Bombay potatoes, very nice!). I never have to wait long for food and it's always hot and very enjoyable.If you want great Indian good, good service and a nice atmosphere this is the place to go.

Having recently tried Lugikhans restaurant in Newcastle number 1 in TA which we found distinctly average, we went to Reema in Darlington for a meal, where I have to say the food was so much better. I had taka dahl and lamb dansak which was very good and my son had the chicken muglai, plus nans etc. People were good and service was quick, decor a bit lacking but good value for the money.

Welcoming , quaint very pleasant interior , immaculate table wear , .. FRESH food , from the poppadom toppings / crisp cold salads to the delicious mains ... these guys really know what they are doing & i am very fussy ! Great Value plus a handy take out too. ....... Its a MUST TRY , you'll be back , believe me.

Superb meal. And i am curry connoisseur. disappoints. Great, friendly service and always full of diners young and older. This cuisine stands up with any in the curry 'hot spots' pf Bradford and Leeds etc. And all reasonably priced.

Very good set menu and always more than enough.We always ask for set menu for three although there are four of us.
