Absolutely beautiful fish and chips. Done to perfection. My fish had been battered to exactly how I requested. I thoroughly enjoyed them. Will definitely go back.

In here for the 3rd time since ownership change. Definitely going downhill. Chips greasy, batter inconsistent. Fish still very good. However, the worst thing for me was the way the owner/manager treated his staff. Belittling them in front of colleagues and customers, it bordered on bullying and if I'd been employed there I'd have walked out. I'd predict that if something isn't done about this situation the business will fold.

Amazing place! I go at least once a week, always on a Saturday morning, and never have a bad thing to say about the place. The girl at the front of the bar is always 5⭐️ so polite and remembers her regulars! You can tell she likes her job 😄. Delivery is always so quick and the drivers are always very kind 🙌. Wouldn’t recommend on a Friday or Wednesday as delivery times are always slower but other than that never had any issues.

Used this place for years. First time back since new owners took over and it will be the last. Portions were poor but more alarmingly had a long dark hair in one of the battered sausages and a hard rock type thing in one of the chips. What a shame. Used to like the food here.

It is now under new ownership, so went in yesterday to get 2 lightly battered fish and one chips, the fish bar was reasobaly busy, however 7 staff behind the counter with little supervision and none of them really knowing what was going on. Any way got home and found I had been given 1 lightly battered fish which was fine however the other fish was not lightly battered and was awful, dry and tasteless the portion of chips was miniscule, will not be going back here again, the old owner ran it perfectly and never had a bad take away from him. This place still only takes cash as well

Not keen on their mushy peas or curry sauce but everything else is great. Good fast service and prices. Always use this chippy.

we have ordered many times in the past and have noticed the standard slowly slipping but fridays food was very poor we rang to complain and the managers attitude was just unbelievable !! like he was annoyed with us for complaining. needless to say they have now lost a loyal customer.

We often get deliveries from Reds to work on a Friday but today is the second time that they have been delivered incorrectly and the last time that we will be using them. How hard is it to check what's going into the bag when they are being prepared for delivery. On top of that todays were cold and in soggy boxes not the usual standards in which we receive them in!

I have been a regular Customer to Reds over the years and the fish & chips are normally lovely. Tonight was very different, I am sad to say. We ordered two fish and chips with curry sauce and both fish were very sparse on fish. It was just like eating batter and chips. We paid £18.50 to have them delivered which I think is expensive for batter & chips so I rang the shop to make my feelings know. All I got was an apology and they know I am a regular Customer who has never complained before. I asked for a part refund but still just an apology. I’m afraid I won’t be ever using Reds again and I will be certainly not recommending them to anyone else either.

Decided on a change from normal fish & chips. Choose to have scampi well all I can say is good choice. Beautiful scampi, nicely cooked not a sign of grease really crispy & sweet. Well done Redz

Our local Fish & chip shop which never fails to impress. Pleasant staff uniform worn makes a difference. Food always nicely cooked & large fish cooked to order. Visit on 5/8/21 fish white & succulent.

This shop never fails to supply lovely white fish freshly cooked. Huge bag of chips. Best around. Staff friendly & efficient.

We have ordered several times now. There fish and chips are superb. The last time we ordered they missed our mushy peas off our order. They offered to come back with the peas but as we had already eaten half of the fish and chips we requested a refund. The driver brought our refund for the mushy peas to the door. Very good customer service to do that.

We often use the delivery service and we are never disappointed, the delivery drivers are great, they come on time in all weather. The fish and chips are always very good and you get a good portion size. Best to book well in advance because they are always very busy. Keep up the good work Redz.

The boss Tayla is a greedy ar*e, went to pick our tea up, walked in the shop whilst he was belittling one of his staff about giving out too much salad. Feel sorry for his staff and I’m glad I don’t work there. Will get it delivered next time I think - at least the drivers are friendly

Just nipped round and got fish and chips for the family. There was a small queue and a short wait. The fish and chips were great, spot on. Fresh, piping hot and a large portion. I haven’t been to Reds for ages, I’m definitely not going to wait long till next time.

Twice in a few days. First time wondered if they had been taken over as portion size had dropped in chips but oh no second day wow you can not complain about quality or quantity. The fresh is always so white, tasty and nicely cooked. I prefer my chips cooked a little more but still very nice. One large portion is sufficient for two. Well worth the money.

Friday 7/6/19 on moving our son 7 of us decided to have fish and chips to give us an energy boost. The people from away could not believe the size of portions we all received. Freshly cooked fish flaky and white. Reds has never let us down. ***** every time.

Once again a great meal for four. Cooked to order so very hot and fresh. Fish so white and flakey. Chips a good portion.

Had our monthly fish and chips today 10/7/18 as usual large fish and chips sufficient for two people. Fish freshly cooked nice and white, thick with thin batter. Chips nicely cooked. A good meal at a good price.

Ordered a meal here for delivery at 4:30pm, now 8:50pm, still no delivery. Food has always been OK in the past, if not a little expensive, but no more.

Normalmente no uso esta tienda de pescado, pero tenía prisa, así que pensé que le daría una oportunidad. Ojalá no hubiese sido así. Pescado y patatas fritas no eran las mejores, pero el personal es bastante abrupto y no particularmente agradable. Tan pronto como entras en la tienda que grita, "qué quieres" y luego no otra palabra hasta que pedir dinero. No vamos de nuevo, no sería tan malo si el pescado y patatas fritas eran la pena pero no son.

Just had a takeaway from reds. Ordered it just before 5pm and picked it up at 510pm. I ordered it online to pick up. Amazing idea. Paid for it when I picked it up. I've got to say this was the best takeaway we have had. It was not greasy at all. I had fish Pattie and chips and it's the best I've ever had. The kids had chicken nuggets meal deal and they thought it was amazing.Cannot fault the food at all. 5* for the food 5* for the ordering system Why didn't it get a five star overall review....well the lady was grumpy, I felt that I was inconveniencing her and she had a dirty top on.

Can be lucky or unlucky here we have had both. When lucky everything is nicely cooked but sometimes and at present more unlucky fish hot chips cold or fish soggy and chips under cooked. Staff need lesson in customer service as they have no personality at all.

Nice, clean shop with plenty of parking open at convenient times (unlike most other F&C shops). They make the fish to order so there is usually some wait. Staff are friendly and efficent.Both the food offered and price paid are very average - unfortunately there is nothing to write home about here!

Staff need to understand importance of customer service and manners, not a single smile and all looked like they were hating life. Food was average at best, using mostly frozen products.

Best chippy on the town. The only one we use, tried others in the past but they cannot match Redz. Nothing is too much bother for them and everyone is very friendly. We get fish n chips once a month, sometimes twice, it has always been delicious. Highly recommended.

we only use reds rest in newton aycliffe not good most staff freindly only 1 girl is misserable and not freindly but a young lad works their he is nice and new young girl started recently she lovley owner makes orders to suite as its not stood drying up you order on arrival never had problem i would like see vegetarian food on menu

Enough food to sink a ship. Mushy peas were lush. Parents shared as there was so much. Family of 4 and change out of £20.

I regularly get the pensioners special delivered on a Wednesday. The fish is massive and very tasty and the delivery is quick and efficient, well recommended.

Take away fish and chips I always have a lightly battered fish, lovely and fresh and cooked to order, My husbands favourite is the fish patty plenty of fish in between two slices of potato. Pensioner day on Wednesday and Sunday specials with mushy peas.Also do a delivery service.

Had another meal from Redz. Huge portions, beautifully cooked and very fresh. Will be back soon. Highly recommend the large cod (probably need to share it though)!

Cheerful welcome from the young ladies and asked want I wanted. Put my order in and asked for sunshine! This they could not provide....but the fish and chips were quickly wrapped and I was on my way with a smile and goodbye. The meal was delicious and when I come back from Malta and sunshine I will be back for more. Thank you!

Son refused to eat his fish and chops as they were so greasy. This takeaway has gone downhill as it used to be very nice. Will avoid in the future

We loved Redz before it was taken over and still do. Great price and food is delicious, best chippy in town! I remembet queuing up with our vouchers from the Northern Echo that were 2 for 1 and when they won best chip shop award. Lots of memories with this great chippy.My nana comes here every week for her pensioners special which is just over £3 and they share.

The 'food' and sauce was sub-standard as well as the plastic, fake chips. If people wanted frozen food they might as well go to Iceland.

Regularly visit this establishment but I have to agree with previous comments about the chips. They are 'hit and miss'. Last couple of times they have been underdone (probably in a rush to serve people too quickly).

My work colleagues and I decided to make Fridays chip shop Fridays and started using reds and at first the food was ok but then as they got busier the quality went downhill. The last time we we went there got the food back to work and the chips were mush uncooked and disgusting, would never go there again.

The delivery was sub-standard; the soggy food arrived after an hour and there was no apology at all. I doubt the food would have been nice if it was on time anyway, after all it was clear that everything was frozen, even the chips. Disgusting.

Lovely fresh fish and chips and large portions, also they deliver to your door, best around here, reasonably priced for the size of them. I can't say I dislked anything about them at the moment

I purchase a large cod with chips, which is enough for my wife and i to share equally The cod is huge & the chips are so plentiful that we can never manage all of them. The cod is thick and always cooked perfectly as are the chips. At £6 10p a bargain.

I use this chippy almost on a weekly basis, I have collected in person but I usually order on line for delivery I find the experience simple and easy they send you and email confirming your order and give you an estimated time of delivery they always deliver ahead of the given time, I find the standard of food to be excellent and portions are quite generous, good value for the money

I don't like fish and chips other then sea side, but my husband does. He approves this one. Good food, nice service, clean, fast - just what you want, when in a hurry!

Redz was once the best chippy on the town however, the last few meals we've ordered from there have been dreadful. Huge, long waiting times and when the food arrived it (mainly the chips) were more like scraps. They were very dark, almost black, and cold. Very disappointing. Also don't like how they pack the meals, i.e. placing the battered fish on top of the chips in the polystyrene tray. What then happens, when you try to move the fish, is all of the batter (which has become soggy from the heat of the chips underneath it) remains stuck to the chips.

Couldn't complain about the food, tastes as a fish and chips should. However the last 4 times I've been in they've ran out of regular cod, meaning I've had to pay the extra for a large. Not ideal considering the large is far too big and some ends up going in the bin!

Thought I would give them another try after being disappointed in the past so I had some food delivered.....Big mistake up all night burping due to strange tasting fat. When delivered the chips had a burnt colour and the fish was covered in a soggy batter, They were stuck together and when I picked them up my hands were covered in grease. The fish had a peculiar taste. Me and my wife ate a small portion and the rest went in the bin. When you pay over £10 for fish and chips you should expect to enjoy them. I rang the day after to tell them about my problem and the gentlemen who answered the phone was not bothered said business was booming and just did not care. Will never go again till I hear that the shop has changed hands and I think that will be sooner than later!

We loved the fish and chips from reds, but lately the chips ate soggy, the fish is the same although the fish is firm and White. We got a normal size fish and chips and a large fish and chips, both the fish were broken into 5 or 6 peices so we couldn't tell which was the large. The chips were terrible, hubby said he couldn't understand what the staff were saying, and just agreed. Not going back until they return to how they used to be.

What a shame! The food was good but not worth the 90minute wait. This is the 3rd time ive had to wait like this for delivery last time was 2hrs. The worst part is when u ring up to ask where it is the staff just lie to u,have done on all occassions. When i phoned this time they said the driver had it in the van and would be few minutes 15mins later still nothing. These delivery services are important to us disabled people who struggle to get out so why offer it when u take so long as well as lie to customers

Ordered food for delivery. This is the second time.... First time was around a year ago and it took 1hr 45mins to arrive. This time it took 2 whole hours with no call to explain or anything! We live 3 miles away! Food was ok but certainly not worth the poor service. Tried it twice & won't bother again

Fish is fresh, nicely beer battered & very tasty. Competitively priced. A huge menu including haggis, sausages, black pudding, chicken, burgers, lasagne, onion rings, pineapple rings @ even salad. A pensioners special all day Wednesday ( cod & chips ) £3.40. A home delivery for £1. Free delivery for orders over £12. The Shop has just been renovated. I suspect that the quality of the chips depends on the potato season! There is no in shop dining.

first of all this is a fish & chip shop not a restaurant. Personally i am not a huge fish & chip fan but my Dad is. So i've been a few times in recent months to get them for him & I had some too. I always ask for the fish to be lightly battered & they are happy to do this. When visiting my Dad i wouldnt go anywhere else for him. Am surprised Redz have had a few bad reviews,maybe these people should give them another try.

Having not had fish and chips for a good while we thought we would treat ourselves and expected good quality from Redz as that is what we have had in the past . How very wrong we were , we waited ages in the shop despite there only being 2 people in front of us . Most of the food seemed to be going out through the back for delivery .The TV was pounding out some moronic music at high volume to the extent that staff had to shout to customers to take their order . When we got them home and opened them the fish was squashed onto the chips which were soggy and anaemic and the batter on the fish was equally soggy and not fully cooked . Disgusting I wont go back there

Numerous dealings with this restaurant, first was online order that took two hours to arrive to discover they had forgotten the bottle of pop which consequently took another hour to arrive (by which time we had finished eating). Hope this was a glitch the husband went back in his work uniform to have the owner make a snide remark as he walked in, to which two girls started to giggle. Walked straight back out again and will not return.

I ordered collection from JustEat told it would be ready for 17.05. On arrival told it would be 17.15. It was a busy period and owner/manager came through and I could see he was working out who was getting served next.The girl mentioned to him about my late order at which he just shrugged, so I went back to counter to ask why an order for collection at a specific time was not ready. He was very rude and just told me I didn't have to wait, which wasn't the question so I tried again to ask why. He shrugged his shoulders again and just dismissed me with a wave of the hand and told me I could find somewhere else! Needless to say I left and will not be returning. The food is not that good to have to put up with abusive owners/managers.Looking at ratings on here they won't stay in business long if they keep up that attitude.

I left the queue today after witnessing the owner/manager abusing a lady customer who had politely asked a question reference a late telephone order booked through 'just eat'.The customer was very ignorantly told where to go in front of the other customers.

Thought it was just me getting fussy but other reviews sum up my feelings about the food also. Really gone down hill. When I moved to Aycliffe 4 years ago I had fish and chips at least twice a week from Redz and they were very tasty with good portions and quality. The last twice I have bought them the fish had a slight odour and I felt the chips were greasy and the fat had a lingering taste in my mouth. Mind you getting good fish and chips anywhere is now very difficult but it is a shame that probably what was the best fish shop in the country has gone by the way...

how hard can it to make decent fish and chips well for this place it is, some of the chips were raw and the fish was little cold in the middle i take it not cooked properly and the place had soo many flies crawling on the ceiling should have walked out then as i was waiting i counted at least 16 seriously this place has issues and they have a fly thing machine which doesnt work this place used to be good looks like MR CHIPPY it is from now on.

Drove from Darlington to 'Redz' and not impressed. The food was dreadful. It was dry, smelt bad, tasted bad and it was obvious everything was frozen. Reds used to be decent but now, I don't know what to say.

this place used to be bouncing since its take over a year back the fish and chips isnt of the same quality to be honest i used to come all the time, he's obviously cut back on quality fish to make more money and the display salad he had didnt look fresh either. old owners please come back!!

This was my second visit recently and I was pleasantly surprised. Was a que when I went in but I didn't have to wait for long. I ordered fish and chips, fish was excellent as it should be and the chips seemed nice and fresh not warm ups as you sometimes seem to find. Will be visiting again as I only live up the road it's great to have this nearby.

Delivery was spot on from order 35min hot yes but chips were a bit dodgy some ok some a bit firm peas a few crunchy peas fish was ok but seemed hard on one side must have been under the grill for a while however I have had the fish and chips over the past year and they have always been really nice must be just a one off will try again next week then vote with my feet

Getting better the chips have improved vastly. A marked improvement on our last visit. We will use again. THIS BIT IS JUST TO MAKE UP THE HUNDRED CHARACTERS

the award winning redz is not the same as reds in newton aycliffe. once over you could get quick and reliable dilivery service with piping hot beautifal food, however since it has been taken over and renamed reds this has changed. i placed an order which took an hour and fourty five minutes and when i rang to see where my order was the staff were rude and lied about where my food was, when it arrived 45 minutes after it had supposed to have left the shop it was over cooked to much batter and dripping with fat it was discusting and would advise anyone who is thinking to buy from this shop to quickly change their mind and look else where.

Chips hot, cod white and succulent.....this Fish and Chip shop has won the award for the best in Britain. Staff are appropriately certificated in Food Hygeine, are pleasant and friendly.I highly recommend.

Had fish and chips delivered which took over an hour even though we are only about 10 mins away by car. When it finally arrived we were totally underwhelmed by the food it was freezing cold. Previously had nice hot food from there but haven't ordered since and don't think we will be again !

Had 3 lots of fish and chips here on Sunday evening. Although the fish was fine, the chips were frankly awful. They had obviously been cooked a while ago and were 'bitty' and rubbery.They certainly need to improve because if they don't I will not be returning.

New owners obviously don’t know how to cook, they are living on the reputation of the past owners. Had fish and chips last night, the fish was excellent but the chips were terrible, the consistency of rubber. This used to be the best chippy on the town, but that was our last time of use until changes are made. We will use the cobbler’s hall chippy from now on. Get your act together Redz, you are really going down the chip pan!!!
