Redgate Steak & Alehouse in Hinckley and Bosworth

First visit to Royal Redgate, certainly won’t be our last. Warm & friendly welcome in lovely surroundings. Menu offered lots of choice with some usual pub fare but also some really nice Redgate speciality options. The BBQ pork burnt end nibbles were a real hit, as was my Tomato Tarte Tatin starter. Then moved on to the homemade Chicken and bacon pie; done differently in the Redgate way - delicious. Been driving past this pub for years not knowing what I was missing, if you’re doing the same, pop in, you won’t be disappointed!

The food was excellent and prepared with care. I have the most delicious Roast Chicken with bacon and fennel risotto, mushroom duxelle, buttered greens, parmesan crisp and jus. It was perfect. My husband had Pollock & Salmon pie, which he really enjoyed (especially the chips). Well worth a visit.

I have been to the redgate many times before and I always have a great time. All of the staff are so lovely, they make the atmosphere of the pub very welcoming, they are also very accommodating to your needs. I’m gluten free and vegetarian, so most places do not have a variety of options on the menu, however at the redgate pub I have many things to choose from! The gluten free pizzas are amazing! I have also tried the battered halloumi and this was delicious too! The pub has a range of desserts, this makes me so happy because most places that I go to, I can only have ice cream. Overall I always have a wonderful experience at the redgate and I would really recommend it to everyone!

I enjoy coming to the royal Redgate as I find the atmosphere is good and the staff are very welcoming. I usually go for one of the pies (the chicken one is my favourite) however they have a new meal on the menu which was a chicken breast risotto. It was amazing! All the flavours and textures go so well together and I was not disappointed when changing my usual order! Will definitely be ordering it again!

New to the area, so first visit to The Redgate, had heard good things. Weren't disappointed with the food - it was delicious - steak cooked perfectly, pie was beautifully presented. No lumps in the mash! Wine list by the glass could be more extensive, and felt the ambience could be improved on - make it a bit cosier, and tables not quite so close to each other. Lovely friendly service.

Have visited this pub on a weekday evening. Popped in for a lunch last week and although front of bar staff were pleasant, the jacket potato I was served was disappointing. I ordered as a chilli con carne topping which was lukewarm, basic and uninspiring. Whoever prepared this (it was served to me less than 5 minutes from order) had no care, imagination or generosity. Really surprised as the A5 doesn’t have many pubs you can park and go- it’s supposed to be a country pub. Staff cool- chef not so, sorry.

It was our first visit here after we wanted to try it for several months. We attended as a couple plus a dog. The food was amazing (9/10 we both rated). We had beef pie and chicken burger. After finishing our meals, with our empty plates we sat there for 10 mins, then 20 mins and then 30 mins and not one person came to clear our plates away or ask us if we wanted anything else! It took 40 mins for someone to take our dirty plates away. A female waitress served the table next to us and couldn’t care less that we were sat there with dirty plates. We were planning on having dessert here but as you couldn’t be bothered with us, we wanted to leave as soon as possible! We ended up going to The Millers which is a few mins up the road for our dessert and more drinks. They care much more about customer service! They are also much more friendly and make more conversation than at the red gate. My dog prefers it at The Millers too as he got lots more fuss there from waiters and waitresses that actually cared. Such a shame as your food is brill but for us, service means a lot more.

I was looking for a place for dinner as I was in the area visiting the Triumph Factory and what a great decision. It started with the initial call to see if they had availability (which thankfully they did) when I arrived the atmosphere felt good and the staff made me feel comfortable and welcome, at no point did I feel like I was pushed or rushed, I asked for what they liked and also about a specific dish that sounded interesting, the description sounded tempting, I ordered it and what a choice! The flavours were fantastic the unusual mixture of ingredients worked wonders and now I will see if I can cook it at home. The drink choices were quite good (but then I am picky!). The service was fantastic not to 'in your face' but polite and courteous. Would I go back again, yes, would I like to take friends, yes. And I would certainly recommend this place again and again!

These guys went above and beyond making sure there was something I could safely eat, given my unfortunately innumerable intolerances, so I was very impressed and heartened. Then the food came and it was nom. Amazing.

We booked at short notice but managed to get a table for 5 plus a baby and we all had the roast beef which was delicious - the veg accomplishments were cooked to perfection and all fresh as were the yorkies - just perfect

We had been told to try the ‘really round’ pies … we were intrigued! We took the advice and had an excellent lunch … pies, chips and veg were all very good. The pub was reasonably busy for a mid week lunch time but the service was prompt and good. The pies were definitely winners … nice pastry, well filled and plenty of gravy … would definitely be my choice on our next visit.

I have been the royal redgate 2 or 3 times now with my partner and as a large family and each time has been such a lovely time and great food! We were welcomed into the restaurant and sat, it was a lovely atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful with any questions. The food was gorgeous!!!!! Drinks were nice and refreshing! We spoke to 2 members of staff as they were both polite and helpful. I will be going again and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone whether it’s a family meal out, business meal or an event I’m sure they hire out areas!

Regularly attend the Royal Redgate for business meals with customers and members of staff, not had a bad meal once. The pies are delicious and I have made my way through every sort (other than the vegetarian one). Staff always polite and friendly. Highly recommend even if just passing through along the A5.

I strongly advise NOT to go the red gate for any food, we went yesterday for an early Mother’s Day meal and was sat in the window seat at the front of the pub. Our scallops come out and they were raw inside and not cooked, which we could get over but then my 3 year old was eating her burger and chips had a few chips then said mummy, daddy there’s a lady bug in my dinner we thought she’s thinking the tomato sauce we placed on her plate might be confusing her as kids with imaginations etc, then she said mummy it’s moving look I looked down and there was a lady bud INSIDE her chip, so I very quietly and politely went to the bar and told the man serving I’m so sorry but my daughters got a bug in her food, he grabbed the plate and stared at it the manger came over his response was “we’ll it didn’t come from our kitchen did it” I was in utter shock. I said it’s irrelevant if it’s came from your kitchen or not there is still a bug inside my child’s dinner who now is crying and doesn’t want it. Obviously we didn’t want to order her anything else as she now didn’t want to eat anything at all. So I’m stood at the bar and there whispering and moaning about us so I walk back to my table really upset and ten minutes later some young boy walks over and said do you want your refund then? I said yes of course we do. There was no apology no nothing. I’m a small business owner myself and have never and would never complain or send food back but to be spoken to and made to feel like we had done something wrong is truly disgusting. Then when I think it couldn’t get much worse the young man said yeah we get loads of bugs and lady bugs come through the windows where your sat? So you’ve clearly had this problem before and still sat us there? Why? We then got completely ignored for the remaining of the meal and felt like we were villains it was horrendous customer service and the food was awful. Stay well away I’ll happily come in and teach you all some customer service skills or hold a class as none of you clearly know how to address complaints or customers in the correct and professional Manner. Disgusted. If I could leave a minus one I would.

Firstly, We ordered the scratchings, and the burnt belly pork ends from the nibbles section on the menu. Both seemed an interesting option and not usual starters, so we were interested to see what was going to arrive. How disappointing! The scratchings were disgusting, just totally inedible, and pork ends were 75% fat. No waiter approached our table to check if the food was ok, I had to call for one, and there was no apology or understanding. Eventually, after prompting, our mains arrived. My partner had the surf and turf with fillet steak. The surf element consisted of 4 prawns, which we felt was a small portion. Overall, he felt the meal was ok, it was basic, which is a shame when it cost £36 for the steak dish. My meal was ok but no vegetables accompanied my meal so it was basic for the price. Overall, the service was extremely slow, we even had to prompt for the bill and then again to actually pay. They did take off the nibble starters from the bill, but only when we said we were not prepared to pay for them.

Amazing roast - excellent value for money. I had the chicken roast and everything was perfection. By far the best roast in the area.

We had the beef pie which comes with a deep and rich jus. My wife and I loved the pies so much we ordered a bulk quantity (as a a take out) , so I can take them to up my family in North Yorkshire, as they all want some pies after hearing me rave about them. . Had a really great lunch at the Redgate! Food, service and ambience perfect 😀. Opted for the steak pie which was the best pie I’ve ever tasted! My friend had a steak and blue cheese panini and she said that was a taste sensation! We will be back soon 👍

Took my grandparents out for dinner on Thursday, I recommended the pies as I know this place is known for them. The service was quick and the food tasty. One of the best pies my grans eaten. Even with a large party the atmosphere wasn’t affected. Unfortunately we weren’t offered any more drinks, I assume this was because it was very busy. However the bar tender was very friendly and soon got us our drinks

I’ve been a few times over the past 6 months, and can safely say that there’s a reason why I go back each time, the food is very good. Had a scotch egg to start with a chicken pie as a main, girlfriend had garlic bread to start and veg pie as a main. Scotch egg was very good indeed and the pies are on another level. Had great service as standard. Will definitely be back again soon.

Terrible food. Sharer not as described on menu. Served 2 lots of pate which was supposed to be hock ham not another type of pâté. Steak was fatty and cold. Service was slow. When we complained the manager wasn’t particularly bothered and didn’t do much to help. Came away feeling hungry and that would be the last time we would eat there. £120 paid for 3 people. Now got to go home to prepare something else to eat.

THE most delicious pies. We pop into the Redgate as often as we can. This great little pub is local to us and is a fab cosy "go to". After a busy day working outside in the cold, a warm welcome early doors with delicious pie and chips is all you need. Oh and the bottle of wine included on "Pie Night". We've also loved the take home option where you cook the pies yourself. A family favourite.

We have visited the royal redgate many times, always a great experience. Food is excellent, in particular our favourite the vegan steak. I recommend this place to everyone, you are guaranteed a great meal, relaxed atmosphere, all in a tastefully decorated country pub.
