Excellent as usual, except for the lobster which was rather tough. It was either frozen rather than a fresh one, or it was overcooked. Everything else was great.

The food and service is second to none. We’ve been here three three times now staying an evening and having dinner and breakfast. It’s such a lovely place and such lovely staff making us feel incredibly welcome and looked after. The room we stayed was beautifully decorated and felt like a proper escape. The vegan menu especially the pudding was such a treat - my partner has a dairy allergy and we are fed up of having sorbet as a dessert - however here there is cheesecake, tarts! It’s incredible! Thank you

6 of us went to Redcoats for afternoon tea on Thursday 28th Sept. It was absoloutely outstanding. We had the most amazing afternoon. The sandwiches and cakes were beautifully made by the chef and the flavours were incredible. All the staff were very welcoming and our waitress Gemma Carter made us feel very special and ensured we had everything we wanted and we all felt thoroughly spoiled. We can't wait to come again. We all tried different teas and also ordered a bottle of prosecco to celebrate our occasion. We were all vegetarian so had the vegetarian options however my mum loves smoked salmon and the chef prepared her some salmon sandwiches which she said "were the best she had ever had!" Thank you Redcoats! Truly amazing! Lorraine and Graeme xx

Our party of 4 decided on Redcoats for lunch and we were not disappointed. There was a very realistically priced but restrictive table d'hote menu but we chose the a la carte which was much more expensive. We chose 3 courses and all the food was delicious. I chose the trout with risotto on special and that was very good indeed, The wines were pricey but good. We chose a Marlborough white which went well with the fish.

Our luncheon was superb. We had tempura oysters, and crispy squid. Both were amazing, and the squid was so well cooked, easy to get wrong and make them tough, but these were really good and we're small squid pieces rather than rings. The Wagyu burgers with brisket & bacon were the best I've ever had. I don't normally like truffles but the truffle oil on the chips was subtle and with the addition of parmesan cheese make them incredibly tasty. The service is impeccable and all the waiting staff were very attentive and knowledgeable. It was a very nice touch to give my wife a birthday treat. Thank you. My only gripe is the price of the wine. The cheapest house red is over £28 (incl service charge). The restaurant was almost full, and as far as I could see, only ourselves and 1 other table were drinking bottled wine.

Came for afternoon tea with my best friend. We were both very excited as we'd heard great reviews but we left feeling like it was a complete non event. When being seated we were asked if we'd like to be moved to a garden table should one become available, to which we said yes! We waited for water to be bought to the table as the hostess had said it would be a short wait but we were next to move outside. This move never happened. Not only did it not happen, three tables that came after us were moved and it was almost impossible to get one of their attentions. The sandwiches, scones and cakes were bought to the table with no explaination of what was present (without a tea order being taken nor any form of tea menu). I had a dietary change and none of the changes were explained. The macaron was hard and not at all soft and chewy, pistachio tart was oily and dense, I had a lemon drizzle which was fine and the chocolate granache was rich and okay. The scones were nice and you get plenty of cream and jam. There wasn't even an opportunity to talk to the staff and I had to basically wave at someone to come and take our money! Not an attentive service. We were really really disappointed by this, I've had much better for the same and cheaper prices.

this was our first visit to this impressive facility, located in a excellent position very near to the A1. It has obviously been remodeled recently and yet retains a certain shabby/chicness.The main restaurant is in the conservatory and was a little chilly in spite of being quite busy for a lunchtime. The staff were helpful and attentive despite, perhaps being a little inexperienced. The menu was very interesting and the food was very good overall. We were somewhat disappointed however to be charged £3.50 for five half slices of bread that we didn't even order. An unnecessary rip off that certainly detracted from our overall experience. This is not a cheap restaurant and we probably won't return.

After hearing all the buzz re this place, we organised a celebratory dinner to enjoy the menu. Unfortunately although the food tries hard, the staff (all junior and undertrained in hospitality) really let this place down. This ranged from hotel staff who couldn’t be bothered to acknowledge us to help orientate us around site, to the waiting staff who brought my Muslim friend a dish covered in bacon, despite us already declaring this as a dietary request on booking. Concept good. Execution poor. And starting to be a trend judging by the other reviews.

Last week I had a really lovely meal with friends at The Farmhouse. Today was totally different. My soup arrived barely tepid and had to be taken away to be changed or re heated, the soup on re arrival was delicious but it meant I wasn’t eating at the same time as my friends. Iordered lamb for my main course, two thirds of it was fat! I didn’t want to make a fuss but the waitress asked how my meal was, I quietly pointed to the fat. Minutes later the manager came out and said I had requested to see him which I actually hadn’t. I just told him I wasn’t happy with the lamb because of the amount of fat. I wasn’t offered anything off my bill and was made to feel awkward. I had intended making a large block booking for a family get together next yr, needless to say I won’t be doing that now!

Dinner was excellent: a carrot soup at 5.50£ and a rumpsteak at 19£ (with 3.50£ to add for red wine jus sauce) were my choice, accompanied by a glass of red wine at 7.40£. Real good value for money. Beware of two major let downs here, firstly the service and the other being a menu that tries too hard to be unique but is too complicated and doesn’t work. The service in the bar great but not at our table, with wine not replenished, having to ask for the water jug to be frequently refilled and no check-in to see if the meal was ok. Upon asking the waiter what the accompaniments were on my plate with my main course they answered “they didn’t know, sorry”. The only course of the meal that was good were the starters, I had the soup (cheddar) and my guest had fish. My main course (chicken) was over complicated with too many varying and competing flavours on the plate, and as for the chips they were truly enormous ... chunky chips are one thing but these were too large. Dessert completed the disappointment, I’ve never left a chocolate mousse uneaten before but I did this time, once again too many components in what should be a simple but exquisite choice. However the positive is the venue, it’s beautiful, with great ambiance.

Went there Sunday with family members for lunch and were very disappointed. Sat in garden for drinks whereby two were forgotten. Had Sunday lunch which was very disappointing. The meat was delicious but that was all. Starters were not special and I had celery sticks with mine and almost choked on one which was very stringy. The terrine was very bland and the bread which came with it was, I presume, supposed to be toasted but was so sloppy I had to eat it with a knife and fork. The roast potatoes were awful, undercooked, hard and dry and the veg which was served separately was like slop. The panacotta was bland and more like a sloppy egg custard. Children’s meals came to £16.50 for two small slices of garlic bread, hard potatoes, literally half a chicken breast and a few carrots. Pudding being a very small piece of chocolate brownie and a small scoop of ice cream - no drink included. All in all - not good. Had booked for Christmas but at £128 a head will definitely not be going. Shame because the setting is lovely. Once bitten twice shy,

I cannot fault this farmhouse restaurant at all. The venue is impeccable maintained, spotlessly clean and has a glorious outside garden which is a perfect place to sit and enjoy a prosecco after your meal. I had crab fritter and roast beef. The flavours in the crab fritter were wonderful and they clearly use good quality ingredients. The beef was perfectly pink blushed and tasted amazing. There was a lovely mushroom paste on the plate that worked so well with the meal. I asked for extra gravy and was glad I did as it was fantastic. Even the horseradish sauce was exceptional. The wine we had was the South African Shiraz Carignan and was a great accompaniment. Full bodied smooth and chocolatey. The staff were also all friendly and not overbearing. Very impressed.

My wife celebrated an important birthday recently and we went with our son, daughter, her husband and their 8 week old baby daughter for the birthday meal to the Farmhouse at Redcoats. We hadn't been there before but had heard and read good reports about it. We chose the Farmhouse at Redcoats because they offered us a separate room - The Old Kitchen - so that the baby wouldn't disturb other diners if she started crying.

Lovely afternoon tea in gorgeous grounds. The newly refurbished barn is stunning! Had a little look before we had our afternoon tea. The staff there was more than happy for us to have a little nosey round. Got seated quickly and the staff were very friendly taking our order. Nicely presented afternoon tea for a very reasonable price. Would definitely recommend going.

We all enjoyed our meals and the ambience is very nice but we felt that the bill was a little steep for the quality of food served. £200 for 4 people, including a bottle of wine. £8-£9 for starters and £20-£21 for mains. That’s not expensive but all of the food should be pretty good for that price. I had the braised blade and the banana bread and both were delicious. However, the stone bass was a little modest. Obviously you don’t want a huge slab of fish but it was small for the price charged. A couple of the desserts were also a little disappointing. As you drive into the venue it is quite impressive and the restaurant is also a very nice place to eat but we have eaten in better restaurants for half the price.

Sam who is 101 took my husband and myself for lunch. Staff were lovely, Food was tasty, Sam loved the faggots, not sure of my crispy squid couldn't find it I found the langoustines.my husband loved the mussels said the sauce was really good on the down side of this starter it came with no bread to mop up this lovely sauce so we had to ask for some. Haddock was nicely cooked not sure of the rice!!lamb was great. Baked alaska was beautiful and the cheese board was great with the homemade biscuits. At no time did anyone ask if we were ok and we asked for our olives 3 times. We had to go and look for someone for another glass of wine. Missed out of 5 stars sorry

Along with friends and having pre-booked for a relatively late lunch we were all pleased with the service and pleasant and convivial surroundings. We chose a pre-lunch drink and then from an extensive, but not Christmas a ssuchmenu. Our friends said the squid was good and my own spicy cauliflower soup was tasty and "hot" enough. All followed with the excellent Roast Pork and trimmings dish complete with a good range of vegetables and two followed with desserts, both enjoyed. Given the bottle of Rioja and the tip the total of some £180 for four was good value and not having been for many years we will go again.

Went for our Xmas get together which we do every year. Different venues each year. Got to say this was by far the worst service, food, and customer service I have ever seen. Meals turning up slow and not hot also tasteless. Cleared our own table of glasses as no one came to clear! No table service for drinks, no extra rolls offered or available when requested. And as for deserts, well Xmas pudding hard and cold. Definitely won’t be returning again. Shame as a beautiful venue just very poorly run.

Stayed at the hotel for our wedding anniversary and had a celebration meal in the restaurant. We were in the conservatory part, which had a nice ambiance. Not crowded with a pleasant rustic decor. The descriptions of the meals on the menu are elaborate but the reason for this becomes evident when the courses arrive. There are some interesting and tasty combinations, which perfectly compliment the primary dish. The starters were delicious and reasonably sized. The steak as tender and full of flavour, again no problem with their size. Service was attentive, personal and friendly. We had breakfast in the same room the next day and again no complaints. Plenty of choice and an excellent freshly cooked English Breakfast. Considering the standard of the food the cost was very reasonable.

Wow! What a great evening! In the beautiful setting of the conservatory at the Farmhouse of Redcoats, we attended the Mahi wine night. It was 4 courses of exquisite food matched perfectly with different mahi wines. With each wine we were given a short but information packed talk about the wine, how it was made and how each wine worked on the palette.

Visited on a Saturday night in a party of 15. We had pre-ordered our food and sat down just after 1830 when the restaurant was quiet.

I don't have too many issues with the food served here, but the value for money seemed amiss compared to the quality. If you're staying at the hotel this isn't a bad place for dinnder.

We went for lunch on my partner's birthday and from the welcome we received when we walked in, to the friendly goodbye when we left, everything was fantastic. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, and excellent value for money. My new favourite pub.

The food was nice but there was no salt and pepper on the table no lemon wipes to clean fingers after. Staff was around to seat you and take your order but would not look at you after so could not signal for the bill. Managed to pay at the bar and ask to box up what we could not eat.
