The best Chinese takeaway in Shields. We’ve been coming here for years and wouldn’t go anywhere else. They are always so kind and accommodating of any special requests and the delivery drivers are really friendly too. Thank you Red Star!!

Best Chinese in Shields by a mile. Recently had to try 3 other places as Red Star was closed for a holiday. Have tried almost everywhere else over the years too. Felt like writing this review because no where else came close. The lady who runs it is always so helpful and pleasant too.

Polite helpful staff. Brought my order out to my mobility scooter to save me standing waiting.

Unfortunately our experience wasn't very good. Ordered delivery and there were missing items that we had paid extra for. Restaurant didn't pick up when we tried to call them. Food was overall greasy, flavourless or had a chemical flavour. We had the salt & pepper chicken munch box which contained many items that were not described in the menu. Didn't eat much and threw out £40 worth of food.

Absolutely beautiful food. I have now found my new go to Chinese take away. Unbelievable fast delivery and scorching hot. If I could give more stars I would.

First time ordering from red star tonight & I was really impressed! I am gluten free so rang up to see if they could cater for me. The lady on phone was extremely helpful& told me what I could have on menu . Lovely, friendly & food was amazing! I'll definitely be ordering again 😀

Had chicken chow mein, chips, curry sauce a couple of weeks back, thought I had already left a review. Got to say Ive used this place since the 80s always had decent food however I no longer recognise the staff so maybe changed hands. When I phoned in my order to pick up they told me 15 minutes however I was only 5 minutes away so thought I would just go straight there, now when I arrived my food was already for me this sounded the alarm bells straight away. I opened the food and the chips were ok however the chicken was tough and had a horrible taste, the curry sauce was lumpy and looked like it hadn't been mixed properly. I actually didn't want to eat the chicken for fear of food poisoning it was that bad. Needless to say I won't ever go back again it was a total waste of money.

Not had Chinese food for a long time maybe 18 month however Ive used this place since the 80s. When I picked up the food I did not recognise anyone maybe it's been taken over I thought. I ordered a chicken chow mein, chips and curry sauce and I have to say it was a massive let down. The chicken was terrible so much so that I was afraid to eat it, it was hard and one piece had what looked like fat around it most unusual for chicken I honestly had my doubts that it was chicken maybe bits of pork thrown in I honestly don't know for sure. Anyway one piece of chicken was enough for me I left the rest total waste of £11.60. The curry sauce was clogged up as if it hadn't been mixed properly it was rubbish, how can you get curry sauce wrong. When I phoned the order in they said it would be 10/15 minutes however I was round the corner so only took me 5 minutes at the most to get there and the food was already in a bag which made me wonder straight away. I am not picky with food but I really thought this might make me ill if I ate it. So in the bin it went, I will never set foot in the place again.

Salt and chilli pepper shredded chicken and chips was just right BBQ ribs were ok too quite happy that I went back for more a few days later

Very good food cooked to perfection the kids and my partner really enjoy there food with a very wide range on the menu will definitely be ordering form there again

Standing in the take away looking at the menu board on the wall. Munch box £14.50. Good deal I thought. Went to order, man serving (who was watching me the whole time I was looking at the board,ncreasto a menu on the counter. Very embarrassing and didn’t want the hassle of making a scene, so paid, but a very poor service. Don’t get me wrong, it’s £1.50, but it’s the principle.

Places an order for a plain chicken chow mein it arrived with bean sprouts,onion etc (I don't like them) rang up they happily sent a new order out. Second one arrived just like I asked for however had a fun smell to it and looked like one that had either been reheated or cooked in dirty oil whole thing went in the bin will never order again. Totally disappointed this place used to be great

I ordered a chicken chow mein, drove 15 minutes to collect only to get it home to find zero chicken. I contacted the venue (that I have used for years may I add) to get nothing but bad attitude. Can anyone recommend somewhere new that I can go as I will not he going back

Meal was delivered well before quoted time and was ready and hot to eat. We’d really fancied a nice Chinese takeaway after being poorly for a while and we weren’t disappointed. I would have preferred some veg with my chicken fried rice, but it depends on the restaurant or takeaway. It was still lovely and filling. Husbands beef with green chilli was excellent and we both love extra fried onions. (We utilised their own website and this saved us £6! Both of the Eats sites add a lot more to the bill we find now in general, so maybe better to look for own websites or voucher codes. Personal opinion.

ordered food and incorrect order arrived despite exact same order as previous, missing items no fortune cookie which was paid for no sweet and sour sauce for chicken balls stale chips stale soft prawn crackers. restaurant did not rectify and stopped replying. use to visit alot but seriously gone down hill and will not be returning

I had a munch box and it was delicious! not too spicy or salty, there was plenty for me and my family with lots of meat! 100% recommend

From the few reviews read we were unsure what too expect when we realised it was the Red Star Chinese and not a similar named takeaway in the same town that we had used and enjoyed before. We needn’t have worried. The New 2021 owners delivered quickly, hot and ready to go. The choices are endless, 5 star hygiene rating and their own website can be used. We used voucher codes to reduce the cost as personally Chinese can add on extras which add to the cost. The ‘new’ beef with green chilli and garlic sauce was what it suggested, spicy but not spoiling taste and the sundries (spicy chips, very spicy) were plentiful and enough left for another meal.

Ordered a house special curry and got 3 bit of chicken 3 bits of beef and 2 prawns . Phoned them and they offered me a 15% discount . I don't think so . Won't ever order from there again.

I came here for the first time today to get some curry sauce and chips for myself and a portion of chips for my Mam & Auntie. Out of this bloody world! Great service.

Worst Chinese ever the whole meal went in the bin, everything including the rice had huge amounts of garlic in it making it inedible.

First time I have used this takeaway and am honestly impressed.

Delivery. Great ordering from website that you literally get a countdown to when it will arrive but that is where it stops. Wasnt too happy with the order before this one a couple of weeks ago, so gave it another go tonight. That was the last. Meal warm, it would have had to be reheated but I was very hungry having not eaten since breakfast, so served as was. Sweet & Sour chicken in batter. No. Batter is supposed to be crispy, it was not, bordering on the chewy side. Sweet & Sour sauce? Not even hinting at authentic. More like some granules you added boiling water to. Chips ok. You cant mess up chips. Fried rice not even warm. Chicken curry? It didnt even make an attempt to disguise its frozen reformed chicken pieces that had been subsequently made into the curry. Theres not a lot else I can say. A 14 hour shift, really looking forward to a hot tasty Chinese meal, of which I would have been better off microwaving a value frozen value ready meal. Customer lost for good.

I order from here every week the portions get less and less every single time they mess my order up I always ask for extra things I always pay and don't get the extra. Lovely food but very greedy

I'm genuinely devastated to be complaining. One of my favourite take away's and I'm highly disappointed, opened the sweet and sour chicken and it had an incredibly bad odour and when I still tried it, it tasted revolting, I rang up to let them know and I felt as if it was brushed aside as if I meant nothing as a customer, paid full price for a horrible meal that's getting chucked in the bin and a incredibly hungry customer from a busy working day. Gutted but I won't be returning.

Crispy beef seemed reheated, biting it broke it into powder, chicken satay was tasteless and the seaweed was utterly Clay cold. And I mean clay cold. Very disappointing, especially for £30+!

Got house special egg fried rice, gravy,, the meat was precooked with no taste, the gravey tasted as it was cheap granules In a very small carton, the curry chips in same carton was also very small, nice curry awfull chips (precooked) , it says 4 ratings on door more like 1 to me (not very clean, I not be going back.

The staff were patient and efficient and offered a number of freebies with our order. The food itself didn't especially distinguish itself in either direction - not especially flavoursome and did cause us a few problems eg our soft noodle side came mixed with beansprouts and onion but not greasy or unpleasant. Portion size seemed just right. Beware that it is just next door to a convenience store and insensitive parking by customers there may leave you completely boxed in for a while with your order!

Was a little apprehensive ordering from here after reading reviews. I had heard good things so thought I'd give it a try. Have to say it was absolutely lovely. We ordered house special fried rice, beansprouts, soft noodles, chips and curry sauce. Portions were enough to feed 4 people! I'd definitely recommend.

Be careful what you order from here!!!! I ordered salt and chili king prawns and added chicken for 20p a no brainier I thought until it arrived and there was only 5 king prawns and a few bits of chicken, I called the shop to ask how many king prawns you get and she said straight away 10, I asked her why I only got 5 and guess what when you add chicken they take prawns away!!!! I have argued with the manager on the phone that this is a disgrace as it only says add chicken not take prawns away he said it must be a miss print on the website and he wasn't aware of it, I then said what does your menu say then guess what also a miss print that he was aware of! When I asked for my money back he refused and said he does not do refunds! I told him what he is doing is fraud and he put the phone down and let someone else talk to me instead, she has agreed to refund me for the king prawns now but as yet the money has not arrived back!!! I'll not be back again!! Just to add the refund did arrive so fair play to them but so much for not doing refunds!!!!!

Sorry but we only used this chinese take away for years in the past but its been about 10 month since we were last there and Ive got to say it was the worst take away food Ive ever had. Everything looked burned and greasy and the taste was not good at all.

Tried here a couple of times, we recently got duck wraps the duck was mostly fat and was substandard from other places i have had it, food is ok but a bit bland the second time round.
