We were so impressed with the food here! The scallops and the duck were fantastic. The spiced curried monkfish also excellent. It is a lovely restaurant that recently turned 20 years, run by a talented and passionate chef who has cooked for celebrities. They have separate vegan, gluten free, and dairy free menus available which is great!

Visited late Saturday afternoon with an itison voucher. I ordered vegetable soup which was horrible, it was so thick I could have stood my spoon upright. It turns out it was lentil and spicy tomato. If I'd known this I would have ordered the French onion soup which my friend said was delicious. I ordered the lemon chicken with korma sauce but the taziki which was served with salad leaves and pomegranate which I've never had before. Don't buy an alcoholic drink as the price was expensive, £14.75 for 2 gins with lemonade. Would I go back, NO. Complained to both waitresses about the soup but all I got was "sorry ", no compensation. After posting this review they replied saying they're glad I won't be back. What a way to treat customers 😡

My friends and I had a fantastic time at the Red Onion. The food was spectacular - so flavoursome and the portions were plentiful. We all had something different - so had the opportunity to try a few of the dishes. One was as good as the next. Coupled with that the service was excellent. So attentive - made us feel comfortable and welcome. Can't recommend highly enough !

Attending for a work evening out. Food and staff were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the french onion soup which had a great depth of flavour. I opted for the fixed menu. The selection of dishes was great and they have a full vegan menu on request. House wines tasted great also. Would absolutely recommend the Red Onion. My only suggestion was the lighting was very bright I prefer a cosier feel but this is purely a personal preference. Hope to return again

Fantastic first visit to the Red Onion. Food was just delicious. We all had the Bang Bang Chicken to start, flavours were amazing. The last time I had this was in Le Caprice in London and this one was way better. For mains, my friends declared the fishcake delicious, I had the pork. Again the combination of flavours worked so well and every mouthful was a delight. Such great value too, and the service was perfect. On point without being intrusive. All in all a great experience, we will be back.

Had lunch there today. It was so fantastic. 3 of us went for the set menu and one from the à la carte. So lovely to have Head Chef Quigley walking around chating with his customers. I asked him for his recommendations. He suggested French Onion Soup and Fish Cake. I am delighted to say that both dishes surpassed my expectations. The soup was really flavourful and piping hot. The fishcake was a huge portion with a super tasty sauce, leaves and petite pois. 😋 My dining friends loved their dishes as well. I am so pleased to say, I am visiting there again on Thursday for another lunch..... Cant wait.

I've been keen to go to red onion for years and I had expected to be writing a good review, but I'm afraid I'm really struggling to match my experience with the previous reviews. The restaurant itself was ok, tired around the edges but cosy enough with a real fire. The service was alright. However, for me the food is the focus and it was very disappointing. We had a pre theatre meal early evening and the food felt like moderate home cooking at best. Everything felt basic, presentation was lacking. The owner arrived mid way through I noted and I'm unsure if standard of cookery would be different if he was on service. We didn't complain as we had an older relative with us as didn't want to upset them, but I would normally have offered feedback in person rather than leave this review. As a side note the prices on the website for the pre theatre menu are not correct.

I've been to Red Onion 3 times now, and it's absolutely phenomenal! The food is stellar, the service is friendly and fast, and the place feels warm and welcoming and beautiful. Most recently, I went to celebrate my birthday by dining solo, which I noted in my reservation. I was given warm happy birthday wishes and a free drink! I treated myself to the crispy goat cheese salad, the duck main dish, and the frozen raspberries with hot white chocolate sauce for dessert. All of it was perfect, and exactly what I needed to have an amazing birthday! I even got a happy birthday message on my dessert plate. I would highly recommend Red Onion to anyone looking for a nice place for dinner, and I'll be sure to head back again myself before I leave Glasgow!

This was our first stop on our cycling of Scotland tour. A completely accidental find while heading to the busier centre. We were very glad we stumbled across this place. Looking into it, it's clearly one of the best places in Glasgow. The service was amazing so tentative and friendly. Giving us the time to look through and decide on their great menu. Want to go back and try more. Started with the goats cheese salad and the chicken pate. Blaaady tasty. The chicken pate was so smooth and rich. Excellent. The goats cheese salad was so well balanced and divine. Mains was a braised beef caramelised carrots and beautiful jus and a duck breast with sweet potato fondant and some bok choy. Both of these accompanied by the Mac and cheese and onion rings side were such an overwhelmingly pleasant course. How each plate came together like fine art as though the chef had allowed the food to plate itself. Taking each element onto your fork and having it coat your mouth each flavour packing a punch before dancing together forming a delightful salsa. Desserts! Now how can you be faced with such choices before you and not be tempted by them all. Gluttony prevailed. We ordered 4 desserts between the two of us the kind of decision that makes the dentist toss and turn at night. A stand out dessert was the chocolate brownie pud. Most surprised by the raspberries and white chocolate sauce such a simple and great combination. Our server recommended us to have naked soup the following day and I'd like to say that is the greatest suggestion I've ever had thrown my way. This kind of interaction really makes me as a customer feel cared about as though my experience at the red onion isn't confined to red onion but to the whole of Glasgow. Round of applause! Top of my recommendations for Glasgow. I tip my hat and bow to you red onion!

Have walked past many times, always wanting to try so we did. Visited Red Onion on a Tuesday night, gorgoeus cosy restaurant inside, beautiful Christmas decorations. All started well, took a wee while to take our drinks and food order but that was fine as weren’t in a hurry. Food ordered and arrived- all wonderful, and cannot fault the food. Waitress cleared our table and asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu and we replied yes as we fancied a sweet treat and coffee. Never got to see the menu or the waitress again. It seemed that the serving staff disappeared except one with the card machine going to another table. Time went on and by this point it was nearing closing - no one to ask for the bill, had to get up and ask. This is what let the Red Onion down, so no tip was left I’m afraid. Staff should be visible at all times and surely checking to see if customers wish anything else. I would think “ up- selling “ should be encouraged amongst the staff. A lovely restaurant serving delicious food but sadly let down by lack of attention by staff.

Having been here a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed I booked a table for a Saturday night for our most recent trip to Glasgow. We obviously wanted to like it again as much as the first time, sadly there were a few things that let it down. We were offered a table by the door or the mezzanine, picking the mezzanine we found ourselves not at a booth but on one of the side tables along the walkway, feeling like the poor relations at a Christmas meal on the spare tables was not a good start. It was a squish for anyone to get past and by the time we were seated the table by the door had gone, so we decided to stay put. We picked the Tempura vegetables and I think the cauliflower with crispy noodles. Both were just okay, nothing to write home about and the tempura batter was no better than we would do ourselves at home. For mains I had the wild mushroom risotto with spring onions, rocket, peashoots and parmesan. NB on the menu I chose from it didn't mention peas. I would say the risotto was more pea than mushroom. The spring onion was over powering in flavour and I was hard pushed to find any wild mushroom either in flavour or sight, there was something (one slice) that looked like either a button or crimini but that was it. I left more than half the dish. I wasn't asked how the meal was or why I'd left a plateful, after paying I mentioned the reasons - it was lacking the rich earthy wild mushroom flavour I was expecting from a wild mushroom risotto and had too many peas which I didn't think were listed on the menu. The waitress confirmed lots of people had commented on the peas... From what I recall the mac and cheese my husband had was fine, if unremarkable and the same for the fries. We decided to pass on the desserts , finished our bottle of wine and left. It was busy which is always good to see, but I can't help feel that the staff were feeling stretched, our waitress was up and down the stairs all night as well as serving a large majority of tables downstairs too. We saw John on the way out, but felt the moment to pass on feedback had passed. He did wander around some of the downstairs tables but never ventured upstairs and who wants to give feedback in a busy restaurant on your way out with your coats on and after you've paid. It's a shame but I don't think we'll be back.

Went on a voucher. The scallops were very good and that's about the best I can say about the meal. The establishment itself is rather dingy, with gross carpeting, dirty windows, and an air conditioning into that looks like it's from last century. Had the sea bass myself, which was fine. Partner ordered a chicken dish that came dry and bland. Just not worth the price, even with discounts on top.

Delicious food and amazing for those with allergies. I don’t have a bad thing to say about my meal here. I came once years ago and was underwhelmed but wow things have changed. First off, cannot tell you how rare it is to find a restaurant with a menu that is both gluten and dairy free. Moreover, it is fully fledged and very similar to the main menu - no plain chicken and boiled potato substitutions here. This even included a choice of desserts. I don’t take this for granted and it’s a selling point for sure. On top of that, the food (my party told me from the main menu too) was all delicious. I am still thinking about it and look forward to when I can return. The music and ambience was also great and not too loud. There’s room for a little decor upgrade but, overall, fantastic.

Visited with a friend and the Restaurant had a nice ambience, staff were very attentive and we enjoyed the background, however the main event of the food was extremely poor. We opted for the pre-theatre at £22.50 for a 2 course. My friend had the starter of bang bang chicken, which she thought was quite tasty followed by a rather monstrous fishcake which she couldn't finish and felt that something more delicate with a light veg would have been better. I had a very uneventful starter of chicken liver parfait which looked and tasted processed with very little flavour, followed by a main course that was quite frankly awful! I opted for the pleasantly described char-grilled lemon chicken with korma sauce, turmeric rice and tzatziki salad. What arrived on my plate was a breast of chicken hidden somewhere under a huge unsightly dollop of thick sickly korma sauce. The chicken breast, which I managed to locate after scraping off some of the mound of sauce was tough as old boots and had absolutely no flavour. I couldn't tell if it had been chargrilled because I couldn't see it, but I did wonder how fresh it was, due to the awful texture and so ate very little of it. The rice grains were hard and very unpleasant to eat and I couldn't work out where the tzatziki salad was on the plate! The waitress must have noticed that I hadn't eaten much of the main but she didn't query this, which I found odd. I'm afraid that I'll be avoiding the Red Onion, wouldn't recommend and it won't be a return visit for me!

Staff were very pleasant, food was best we’ve eaten in a long time and the ambience of the restaurant was lovely. The chef going around the tables in the evening just tells you how passionate he is about his food.

We were on a tour of Scotland and this was to be a highlight dinner for the group. Everyone was seated quickly, but be aware the restaurant is very loud. Dishes were served quickly. The food was okay, people liked the goat cheese salad and the French onion soup. I had the rib eye and it was a bit fatty. After the plates were handed out, not one time did a server ask how everything was, if anyone needed anything, if anyone wanted another drink or more water. Nothing. Guess they knew they'd be getting a gratuity no matter the level of attention paid to us. Disappointing to say the least.

It was a short lunch and I only had a main and some sparking water (glass bottled) but overall very positive experience. Good choice of vegan (separate menu) and it's a cosy and atmospheric restaurant. Staff super friendly and helpful too. I was here before but over 10 years ago so can't really compare but I'll definitely be back.

Myself and my wife visited La Vita on the evening of Sunday 16th Feb, we booked a table and arrived promptly, we waited approx 10 mins for our table which considering it was busy wasn't too bad. We we're shown to our table on the top floor and we're seated by a very friendly member of staff, and this is where the problems start. The table we were given was in a very narrow area where it appeared it had been placed just to add more seating, 3 or 4 tables were placed like this, with a table to our left with a 1 foot gap and and table to my right with approx 1.5 foot gap. The waiters serving the tables around us couldn't get through easily without constantly bumping our chairs and to make matters worse, where we were sitting was also the route to the rest rooms. Unfortunately, throughout the evening we had waiters almost knock our drinks twice and only saved due to my panther like reflexes, and had my started pushed by a bum once and main meals twice by people squeezing past to go to the restrooms. Although the food was delicious and service couldn't be faulted with very apologetic waiters, my concern is that management took the decision to place extra tables for increased monetary gain rather than customer comfort and the serious health & Safety issues if an emergency was to occur. This was our 1st visit to La Vita and unfortunately would not be returning which is a shame because we did enjoy our meal and service couldn't be faulted.

I adore this establishment; it's perfect for enjoying expertly crafted cocktails and socializing or for a delightful dining experience, as the food is superb. I've always had a wonderful time here. The staff are attentive, and the leisurely drink service enhances the calm, relaxed ambience, particularly when there's live music in the upstairs bar. The interior design alone is worth a visit.
