Went here to use a birthday gift. The restaurant was busy and used the ambiance of a railway tunnel. We ordered the chateaubriand for 2 at £78 with sides and 2 sauces. Ordered olives and focaccia at £11 which was pricy given what we got. Nice though. Mains came but big no-no was the cold plates even though the food was hot. Wine was Aldo good. Food was good but I couldn’t help but compare with a similar restaurant in Glasgow. Service was also good and toilets were spotless. Concluded that it was a nice experience but not really great value. Good for a meal but don’t see me going back.

The starter beetroot was good, the scallops were far too salty, the worst presented chateaubriand we have ever seen, just dumped on a plate, cut far too thick with no garnish, the sides were on our plates, mashed potatoes on one plate and a small pan of mushrooms on the other, about half of the meat inedible, the cheeseboard was a joke, 2 types of cheese with fruit and spelt crackers, the worst meal we have had in the last 15 years, won't be back and certainly won't recommend, it wasn't even busy to give any excuses, about 20% of tables filled

Fui aquí con mi hermano y madres para el Día de las Madres. Reservamos una mesa y me alegro de haberlo hecho ya que estaba ocupado en ese momento. Optamos por tomar el asado del domingo, y estaba delicioso. La carne asada estaba tierna, y las patatas perfectas. Todos tomamos un postre, también. Platos limpios. El personal merece una mención especial. No podría haber sido mejor. Nunca esperando mucho y muy atento. Nada era demasiado problema. Los precios también eran razonables. Está perfectamente situado dentro de la estación central, por lo que es de fácil acceso. Recomendaría este lugar para cualquier ocasión

Tan decepcionado odio la comida fría que espero que el filete medio cocido esté caliente o demasiado cocido, pero los lados y las salsas espero que estén calientes. Y luego al pagar cobrado, £ 93 , no Alcohol en realidad nos cobraron extra por la salsa para calentar la comida cuando se discutió en hasta que no querían saber. No es de extrañar que nadie allí no vuelva a disfrutar de mi casi, £ 100 enemigos de la comida fría y botella de agua.

So disappointed hate cold food I expect steak cooked medium to be warm or it's over cooked but sides and sauces I expect to be piping hot. And then when paying charged ,£93 ,no Alcohol they actually charged us extra for the sause to heat the food up when discussed at till they did not want to know. No wonder no one in there won't be back enjoy my nearly, £100 foe cold food and bottle of water.please warn people

Heard good things about the restaurant, so my wife and I booked for Sunday while in town and we certainly weren't disappointed. It was absolutely fantastic. The service was attentive and I found it refreshing to see somewhere offer local beers (from Drygate) rather than the usual mass produced dross other restaurants serve. We opted for the Sunday fixed menu of French onion & haggis soup, followed by roast tweed valley beef. Both were brilliant & highly recommend.

También estaba bien condimentado con un buen tirón en el exterior, un corte de carne realmente delicioso. Myself and two friends popped in last night around 8pm looking for a decent martini. When we walked in the person who was presumably the host was sitting eating directly in front of the door. They got up and directed us to the bar and resumed their meal. If I had been in for food that would have been off putting to have been served by someone eating their dinner in the same area as me. We grabbed a booth and while we were looking at the cocktail menu the bartender proceeds to call over that it is bar service and then begin eating behind the bar. We were the only people in the restaurant. To insist people come up to the bar to order their £11 cocktails and stand there while you make them when you have no other guests in the place is wild. To announce that’ll be the case while eating something is next level poor. I understand people need breaks and dinner, but to stand eating behind a bar is really bad etiquette. Needless to say we left — this is a restaurant that’s always been on my list to try but after that experience of the lacklustre customer service it’s off for me. Really strange atmosphere.

Steak restaurant underneath Central Station, Glasgow. We booked in advance and there was a set menu at a special price along with a regular menu. We had a lovely Malbec along with our steaks. The service was impeccable from arriving to leaving. A hidden gem in the station. Being underground there are no windows but the atmosphere was intimate and busy for a weekday evening.

Primera y última vez aquí el fin de semana pasado. Pedimos 2 platos principales - solomillo, filete y lados de verduras y queso mac n entre nosotros. Las bebidas eran un vaso de Sauvignon y una botella de Peroni - la botella de Peroni llegó a la mesa sin siquiera la oferta de un vaso ... habría sido agradable que le ofrecieran uno. El solomillo se pidió mediano y salió crujiente y hermosamente rosado por dentro y era un pedazo de carne encantador. El filete se pidió medio y salió del mismo color oscuro en todo - realmente debería haberlo enviado de vuelta (a £ 44 por 230 gramos). Ambos lados eran preciosos, la pasta especialmente. Conozco gente que está delirando con este lugar, pero me decepcionó tanto el servicio como la calidad del filete cocido.

Booked at last minute for a pre theatre menu before attending an event. We both opted for rump which was the size and thickness of a fillet, ever so slightly overcooked for medium rare but flavour and texture was still very good. Kind prawn and French onion sour starters also went down well. We split a rum and raisin brown sugar pavlova with caramelised banana. Decent selection of drinks although my first choice was unavailable as they'd ran out of passionfruit. Service was quick and pleasant. Will certainly return (probably on a Thursday to try to sharing Chateaubriand.

Have eaten here lots and and bkd the £15 lunch which is one course with no other set option for 2 and 3 courses. We opted for the rump which was £5 extra, had one side dish to share, an alcoholic drink each and a deasert to share and our bill was over £90 as they added an optional service charge. Whilst it is mentioned in the small print, they dont tell you and we overheard a couple complain about their bill. The steak was lovely but for one course, a drink and half a pudding it was expensive which is probably why it was not very busy. Love the vibe and quality here so would suggest it needs to represent better value for money to get the crowds back.

Took my wife yesterday (22/9) for Sunday roast and both of us were absolutely delighted. I had the haggis pakora and my wife had the prawns for starters.Both were ample portions and properly cooked. The main was the rare beef which came with broccoli, cabbage, carrots and both roast and mashed potatoes with Yorkshire pudding. This really was the main event with a very hearty plateful and absolutely delicious. We finished off with pear crumble and custard. My wife had the brownie and as before excellently prepared and tasty. The bill came to £70 and added to this the 10% service charge. TBH I can't think where and when I have had better value for money. Don't take my word for it treat yourself a try it.

La selección de las 6 ginebras de degustación siguió un camino inteligente que une cada una a la siguiente y nuestro anfitrión estaba magníficamente informado sobre la ginebra, los antecedentes de cada ginebra seleccionada y ginebras similares. El ritmo era el correcto y tuvimos tiempo para disfrutar de un cóctel al final. I just want to say that the Sunday roast has a timing window: I was told it wasn't available after 6 PM, but nowhere on the online menu (via Google Maps or Alston's official website) says this. To anyone coming to this restaurant from abroad like myself, take precautions and get here early if you want the Sunday roast. Other than that, there was nothing wrong with my meal: the steak was cooked excellently and the medium-rare is impeccable - quite possibly the best medium-rare I've ever seen.

Being from the US specifically Nevada where we have some of the most amazing restaurants. Alston was probably one of the better steakhouses I have been to. I specifically had the bone-in ribeye aka Cote De Boeuf and it will go down as a top 5 Bone on rib eye. We also ordered the mushrooms and they were awesome. In addition had the mashed potatoes and they were rock solid. Truth be told while I was glad the restaurant wasn't busy being a owner of a business I was actually disappointed it wasn't busy because the food was great. I would highly recommend giving this a try and I do not think you will be disappointed. Cheers

The food was presented nice enough, we were there on a Sunday and we had the set Sunday Roast Menu which might have decreased the quality, however, my rump was over cooked (I asked for pink) Service wise, they came a few times to check on us, but I actually had to ask for them to remove the dirty glasses after a while. The venue is gorgeous and so it’s the atmosphere. When it came to the dessert the brownie was a bit dry and the Eaton mess was basically just cream… All in all a 3 star review, I wouldn’t rush back, but was ok for the price.

Alston Bar and Beef has been a favourite restaurant for a number of years and is a place that I have always recommended to family and friends for their exceptional food and service. However, unfortunately I can no longer recommend the restaurant. On Sunday evening, I came here with my family to celebrate my dad's birthday. Our food took over an hour to arrive and not once did any server come to us to apologise for or explain the delay (despite us being sat right next to the till where they were chatting amongst themselves). Two other tables with larger parties ordered after us and were served their meals before we were. When we eventually managed to speak with someone, we were told that the delay was due to one of the steaks being ordered well done. I find this extremely hard to believe as I dined here in February and two out of the four steaks were ordered well done on this day and the meals didn't take half as long to arrive at the table. The food was delicious as always, however the customer service has gone extremely downhill in recent months and for this reason I will not be back.

I can't rate this place as they refused to serve us. We had wanted a quick sandwich between trains and despite being empty said they were only serving full lunches. They directed us to the café upstairs but its sandwiches on show were curled at the edges as already on display. They also said we would have to buy and carry our food up to a third level. I have loved both of these eateries in the past but we probably won't be back which is a shame. Steak dinners and cocktails were great last time but the very low level of customer service was terrible on this occasion.

I did order cote de boeuf and was perfectly blue. Great quality of meat and chef actually can cook will come back for sure when next time in Glasgow. Only big minus £6 per salad is ridiculous and 6.40 for pint is a London price but well steak was great so congrats for chef :). Also getting someone to pay took too much time so I have to give 1 star less. For that and pricing.

We stopped in for dinner after reading the menu posted outside. We had various appetizers, the rib-eye and rump steaks. Every thing was amazing,except the lamb starter. Verged on the side of being over done and therefore dry. the wine selection was great ass well as the non-alcoholic drinks! The setting is very cool, next to the train station , gave it an industrial chic feeling! Recommend this establishment highly.

Visited to celebrate my birthday recently as a treat from my partner. Food was good, although pretty expensive for what we got, and I was freezing where I was seated, had a draught on me every time the door open, even though we were at the far end of the restaurant. Have been before and wasn’t impressed but decided to go back with friends and give it another go. I thought first time round it was really expensive for what we had and discovered on second visit it was because service charge is added on which we didn’t notice and had re tipped again without anyone pointing this out to us 😡 Steaks are nice enough but expensive, staff lacking any charisma and service charge is included which no one points out to you when you are giving tip.

First time here today. We had lunch and what a lunch. I had the lamb starter and my friend had the Kimchi starter both were sooo good. We both had steaks for our mains and they were cooked to perfection. Both driving so we didn't try any of the alcohol drinks and stuck to soft drinks. There wasn't a choice of Zero beer and they only had one 0.5% beer. I'd recommend a wee selection, some folk can't take even 0.5 % for various reasons. My only slight criticism is that the choice with the steak are mash chips or salad, e chose chips and I would have enjoyed some form of veg there too, even just a tiny side salad. Exceptional food in a beautiful restaurant with great service.

Easiest 5* review I've ever given. Hidden behind an unassuming doorway set in the entrance to Glasgow Central station is this delightful basement restaurant and bar. We had a delicious Sunday Roast today, beautifully cooked beef and associated vegetables. The staff were cheerful and attentive, and the ambience relaxed and friendly. A great place to visit at any time but particularly convenient if you've got a long wait for your train connection!

Outstanding Sunday Roast. Beef cooked perfectly for me (medium-medium rare) and great that they give you the option of that or well done. Kimchi Fritters to start were light, crispy and delicious. Great wine, tasty Negroni selection and the staff were very good and attentive. Highly recommend and will be back in future.

Excellent Sunday Lunch with great, friendly service. Would recommend it all but the stand out was the beef obviously and the Yorkshire pudding and gravy!! My partner really enjoyed the haggis starter and the sticky toffee pudding was yum. Different setting too, enjoyed being in the restaurant!

I visited with friends and the atmosphere was really nice. The service was friendly and efficient and the roast beef and all the trimmings was absolutely superb. We moved into the bar after lunch for a drink and that was also good. Well worth a visit.

As per other reviews I never knew this place was here, I went in for a wine before the train to London and it is beautiful. I am a chef and as soon as you go down the stairs you see the kitchen and you know that these guys are at the top of their game! Should be better promoted.

Delicious Sunday roast! We had a very nice meal and enjoyed some drinks too. I loved the kimchi fritters for starters. I can’t believe I’ve lived in Glasgow all this time and had never even heard of this place until recently. The staff were friendly and attentive too, I would return. My only little thing was I felt my Yorkshire pudding was a little cold compared to the rest of the food but the meat and the veg were cooked perfectly. Only other thing to note is we didn’t get a phone signal at all which wouldn’t have bothered me (they do free wifi), but my boyfriend was oncall and he would have missed any phone calls that come through.

Had a lovely lunch here on a Thursday in December with my work friend. We both picked from the lunch menu and both had the roast chicken with mash and haggis bon bon. It takes about 20 mins as is cooked fresh but totally worth it - so tasty. Chicken breat comes on the bone. Serve is also great, attentive but not overbearing. It was quietish at lunch with a couple of larger Christmas party tables but atmosphere was still nice.

Walked past this restaurant for years without realising it was there. You can actually enter from Glasgow central station which makes it ideal if you're traveling by train. We had chateau briand which was cooked to perfection and the sides were delicious! The sticky caramel pudding was also amazing. The service was excellent too. We will definitely be back.

Had the set menu, haggis croquettes lacking flavour. Ordered the d-rump medium rare, it was overcooked but the sauce and the chips are very good. Ganache as dessert is very good.

As always the good parts first , meal most enjoyable , cannot fault the quality of the food or service provided , the only thing that left a slightly sour taste was the service charge , no complaints on this being levied on the meal in the dining room but prior to meeting my friend I stood at the bar and purchased a glass of beer , it was only later when I checked my account I noticed that a 5% charged had been added , it seems to me that I had been charged a service charge for the bar person to pour a drink , what is next , I always thought that a service charge was for a higher than normal level of service , perhaps I an wrong , hope my local Bar does not start this practise ,

Booked a table for my son's 21st. Staff were great. Gave us time & space to catch up, chat, take photos & open presents etc Didn't rush us at all. Everyone enjoyed their food too which was good. Thank you to the staff at the Alston!! :-)

I've been meaning to pop in here for some time but never got around to it. Managed to get there for a Saturday lunch of steak and fries and it was delightful. Lovely space below the Central Station. It's clean, tidy and well ordered. The staff are pleasant, smiley without any falseness and able to recommend food and drink properly. The food we had was lovely, very simple and cooked perfectly. I/we will definitely be back.

I often jump into Alston Bar & Grill for drinks when waiting for a train and have never been disappointed. Their speciality is gin and the selection is huge and changes on a regular basis. They offer a perfect serve for every gin on the menu and have four or five tonics to choose from. When I visited most recently, I was doing Dry January and opted for a mocktail. I was so impressed, they were affordable and so delicious!

Not exaggerating but this is the best steak I've had in Glasgow. I had a fillet and my boyfriend got a sirloin. They were cooked perfectly and had so much flavour. A side of mash and chips was included with the steak but we also added Mac and cheese which was delicious. For puddings we finished with a sticky toffee pudding and clotted cream - divine! Perfect spot for a special occasion. Great atmosphere and wonderful service!

This restaurant is quirkily located under Glasgow station so wasn't sure what to expect but what a gem it is.. We had booked a table and were greeted by the manger at the door. She provided a really warm, bubbly and professional welcome and it really set the tone for the rest of our evening. The menu had lots of things to offer and nothing disappointed. We were actually celebrating so we treated ourselves and went for the porterhouse steak with several sides and not only did it not disappoint, it was absolutely outstanding quality and cooked to perfection. For me personally, it was the nicest steak I have ever eaten. The service was nothing short of excellent and the staff were extremely attentive, friendly, helpful and kind. We would highly recommend this restaurant for both the food and the service. A huge thank you to the manager, Tiff, and her staff for such a wonderful evening. We will definitely be going back.

29th December 2023. The most disappointing steak I’ve ever had in a restaurant. I got the rib eye steak at £39 and it was very salty to the point where I couldn’t eat it. The server seemed to think that this might be because all the chefs had seasoned it not knowing the other chefs did however my husband’s main course was also salty (but not as bad as my steak). The server then said that she wouldn’t charge me for a dessert even though I had hardly ate the steak. I had the sticky toffee pudding which was very dry and the clotted cream was just a lump of butter - I couldn’t eat this either. Overall, very disappointing and we won’t be back.

This is a hidden gem and you make it what you want it to be. The exhibit is small and understated, but the real gems are the young lads working there. They were music who loved to talk about their art and even demonstrated the bagpipes for us. They were wonderful.

Wonderful Sunday roast, great food and service as usual. We pre-ordered the roast chicken (called in the day before to ask for it as it is only roast beef on the menu and the chef was more than happy to accommodate it).

Pre arrival arrrangements for our group of 9 excellent as was our welcome for seamlessly provided pre lunch drinks. We had booked a private room and as in previous visits we were looked after with care and professionalism. The market menu lunch was excellent as were the wines. Will certainly look to book our next lunch there

Después de charlar sobre el entrante de pollo bang bang que había tenido un par de veces antes, Andrea trajo una pequeña muestra de él para que mi marido lo probara, que fue un toque encantador. Tenía el pollo limón con salsa korma para mi principal. Fue hermoso, pero me decepcionó que en lugar del tzatziki que decía que vendría, era más cohete con un aderezo.
