Had a family dinner out and my daughter suggested the Red Lion Inn. I was a little worried when driving up as it's narrow roads and nowhere to park other than a few spaces outside the pub. We went in and were told which table was ours. There were 5 of us and it would have been a bit cramped but staff changed the table without any fuss. We all ordered roast dinners with a mix of chicken and beef. There was quite a wait for the food, in fact a couple that ordered immediately before us had finished theirs well before ours arrived. The chicken was breast with the thigh bone still in and covered in a salty skin which I personally liked. Each meal came with a single roast potato. Mine was huge. But it wasn't the tastiest if I'm honest. The carrot was lovely and the beef was okay. The Yorkshire was a little overdone for my liking. The whole meal was just okay. Staff were great. Good decor on the inside but the general feeling from the whole pub was that it was cold. Lots of people still had coats on. There's a lovely open fire which looked like it could be cosy.

Very disappointed, staff were lovely, food not too great, my husband had cheese and onion pie, should be called potato & pastry, my chicken supreme was quite tasty albeit rather dry, mum had the rag pudding topped with brisket very over facing, ok for some with a big appetite, frozen chips, didn't bother with dessert as someone near us had fish which stunk the place out, sorry but wouldn't visit again

From the moment we walked in the staff were so happy and friendly and greeted us as such. There was no waiting for them to take our orders . The food is home cooked a so took a little longer than freezer to fryer outlets which wasn’t a problem. The pies are huge which I couldn’t finish chips were to die for and the Sunday lunch was lovely and there was plenty of it. The atmosphere was nice there was a big open log fire it’s a lovely proper pub type place with different little rooms. The price for 4 of us with 2 courses and 2 drinks was less than £90 which is great. Parking could be a problem in summer as it seems very popular there are lots of benches outside and dogs are welcome. We will definitely be back.

I had high hopes for this place so booked it for a special family occasion. All seemed good - starters good, mains decent enough (though “medium” steak is more “very well done”) then when it came to ordering our dessert we were told the kitchen had closed at 8. At no point were we told that and we’d waited patiently for service after our main while the bar man ate his dinner. He said it was “his bad” but it was such a shame as it ruined what we had hoped to be a special evening after a difficult period. We had the table booked until 9 so I’m unsure what we were expected to be doing for that last hour!90 for 4 people - we won’t be going again.

We called in towards the end of a walk. Arrived at 10am just as they’d opened for breakfast. We were made to feel welcome. Found a table in front of a recently lit open fire. Tremendous. Great breakfast menu available. I had the full English and a coffee. No complaints at all. Really good quality breakfast, quality ingredients cooked well. Even the toast was a little different (ciabatta) but it worked well. Coffee good. The 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely return in the not too distant future. Hardest bit was leaving without having a couple of pints of Guinness. The wait for food could have been reduced a little - but we were the first customers of the day so you have to expect some wait. Highly recommend.

Lovely pub and atmosphere. Beer first class.Staff very good and helpful. We both had the urge for a stodgy lunch ie lion burger my wife had the small I had the large . Very tasty with the flavours chips, however the price difference of £6 between large and small for an additional beef patty on the burger was ridiculous and tainted what was a nice experience. My advice if you want large order 2 small burgers.

Called here this afternoon. Rang ahead asked for a table for 3 . Owner said he could fit us in. On arrival our table was ready . Window seat in a room to the left . There was another room on the right plus more infront of the bar. Service was prompt . Had a pint of ale Kahuna the ladys had WKD and Coke. We ordered Hallumi Fries and Cajun Mushrooms to come with our mains of ,Home Made Cheese and Onion pie, Chicken Burger and a Rump Steak Burger. All with beer chips. Food probably took 15/20 mins to arrive and was nicely presented. We were not disappointed, it was delicious. Unfortunately we had no room for a sweet. The service was excellent and all the staff we interacted with were a credit to the pub. We were also pleased with the bill. Great value . We shall return.

I visited the Red Lion today with my wife and young son and was very impressed by the service that we received. We reserved a table half an hour before we arrived, on the off change that it was needed. On this occasion we didn’t need to, however we were allocated a table. I had the king prawns in chilli and garlic and the butter chicken burger. They were delicious! My wife had the Tomato soup, roast beef dinner, and sticky toffee pudding. My son had the fish fingers and chips. Everything was well cooked, and excellently presented. The cost was very reasonable and as such, we will absolutely go back again. The staff were brilliant and made every effort to entertain my son, providing him with colouring in material. Keep up the good work, and well worth a visit.

Staff friendly and welcoming, very knowledgeable about the areas past history, even documented in the file in each room. Having read amazing reviews about The Red Lion, we decided to venture somewhere where we didn't know existed . Miss match of tables a little dated, however all the reviews of the food cannot be wrong. Menu slightly limited, but a good selection of chef's specials. The main thing that bothered us was the unprofessional conduct of the front of house team. I'm afraid more "cafe" trained than Country pub. There did not seem to be a leader in the establishment that took control. Then we saw the chef possible owner. A Jack Sparrow look alike. He was lighting the fire, chatting with his customers & possibly locals and also serving on the bar. How on earth did he produce the quality of the delicious meals that we enjoyed without spending any time in his kitchen? The Sunday roast's were to die for, perfect tender pork with crispy crackling. Perfectly cooked beef as we like it not over cooked. The outstanding addition had to be the amazing Yorkshire puddings. Great value for money. We will return when we hear more positive feedback about the leadership that really lets this place down. The pub needs some TLC and also needs to remove much rubbish & dumped catering equipment which lingers outside of the loo area. I review the quality of food as 5 stars, everything else is 1 star.Tell Jack Sparrow AKA possible owner to train his front of house staff and not run around like a headless chicken. Its a shame as this country pub could be so much more. Overall, a rating of 2 despite the food being 5 star. I hope you act on this as it could be a great gem of a place.

Starters were lovely, but the selection was limited. If you didn't want something bread related, you were on soup. There were a couple of specials, I had the fishcakes to start. Delicious, and plentiful, probably too big to be honest. Everyone else commented on how good their was too. Main menu again limited, but we all managed to find something and the food was again well cooked, hot and very big portions. We didn't order desserts as everyone was defeated by the portions of the starter and main meal. Coffee was good too. All in all a great meal and we will return, our only advice would be a couple extra choices on the menu would have made the difference.

To me, that's always a sign that the chef knows what they're doing. The carnivores amongst us devoured the meat with gusto and enthused about the quality of the food, too.Service was helpful and friendly. We feel lucky to have such a super place on our doorstep.

Just been here for my birthday tea. Believe me it was one of the best tea's/pub meals we have had. Fantastic pub, used to spend New Years Eve in here 40+ years ago and then ring the new year in with my step father in the church at the rear. This is a must for all, excellently cooked food and well presented. A little gem you must try, I will go again and again. Thanks David and the staff, great beer to compliment the food.

Everything seemed fine for enjoying some fairly ordinary pub grub at The Red Lion and we ordered drinks and our food with the lovely staff and fully expected good things based on what we’d been told by friends. Oh how wrong we were!! The food was Ok generally speaking, however I had ordered a steak medium-rare, but when it arrived it was clearly overdone and I asked the waitress to return it to the kitchen. Big mistake! Next thing we knew we were confronted by a very belligerent (and quite possibly drunk) Scottish chef wielding a meat cleaver and demanding an explanation from us about what we had expected when we ordered a medium-rare steak. Meekly avoiding this bizarre confrontation, we chose to quickly pay and leave before things got further out of hand. We will never, ever set foot in the place again and highly recommend others avoid it too.

Came here today after hearing some good reviews and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was buzzing. We had roast dinners and mussels and they were delicious and a brilliant price. Would definitely come here again. There was live entertainment but for us it was a little bit too loud. No coffee, tea or hot choc available but it was explained clearly that they would be doing this in the near future. Definitely a pub thats on the way up!!!

Well its been a long long time since I went to the Red Lion and I went for Sunday lunch with my family today after hearing it's under new management who are putting a lot of time, effort and investment into it. I've got to say I was extremely surprised - you can clearly see the physical changes in the building and the staff are happy and very helpful, new management are passionately informing people of the further changes to come and the new menu has some wonderful choices. The food is excellently cooked, beautifully presented and plentiful. The price is just right for the quality delivered and the meat melted. If you order the desserts beware the ice cream sundae - it's not small! Even my husband had to rest in the middle of it. The vegetarian menu has a good selection for all you veggies too as my husband's nut roast looked very tasty as well - can't wait for next Saturday as we've booked our return already. All I can say is good luck and keep it up its nice to see the Red Lion back in the community again.

Good pub with open fire and popular with all the locals. Good atmosphere on nights like New Years eve where it's popular for the locals

Great home made pizzas with whatever choice of topping you desire, served on a quirky wooden pizza board and pizzas had perfect bases. There is also choice of base such as traditional tomato or BBQ.Caters for gluten free if given advance notice.Bit of a wait, but the motto does say above the bar says something like "we serve good food slow, not bad food fast" .... Or thereabouts, but I liked it! Great for a get together and a share as the pizz are HUGE.

Great friendly service, food was spot on... cheap and cheerful, great food for the price, lots of choices for drinks... although I would have liked a Stella, there's nothing to whinge or moan about, friendly bar staff. The self service station for condiments works a treat as you don't have to wait around to ask for sauces, knives forks etc... 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Been here a few times over the years and it's a lovely cosy eating establishment, food today was good but a little let down by service from the staff, they were friendly enough but nearly 10 mins after been taken to our table not one person asked us if wanting drinks ,it's basic customer service . We had to ask for them to come over and once served with food not once came over and asked if everything ok. 4 staff chatting away with each other. Just needs tinkering with the staff that's all. Also don't like the idea they put a service charge on your bill without asking you ,not many customers will see this on the bill, it's quite sneaky to be honest.

The pub seemed alright, bit dirty but it’s old I guess. The Ale selection is terrible and seemed over priced. They do serve some food, Pizzas’s mostly, but the fact that it’s cooked outside in a dirty trailer really puts me off them, plus, where is the good hygiene rating???? - Would not recommend!
