The Cotton House in Rossendale

Lovely restaurant but it felt as though there wasnt anyone in charge , nothing in particular wrong but just lacking in a welcome it was an awful evening wind rain blowing sideways even though its mid April and i was glad i had booked the fire room but the fire wasnt on and it was chilly . The food was delicious and the waiting on staff were lovely and attentive, polite . I will definitely eat here again i just feel it needs that person acting as a host to make it a better experience. The building is so lovely and modern and loved the wine cellar downstairs the decor etc but the toilets were a bit smelly a few of us commented on this so it wasnt just me being sensitive. Overall a good meal with friends with great food .

Unwelcoming/unfriendly staff, slow service. Half the food we ordered was cold when it arrived. Ordered a bottle of Chablis, was just placed on the table with the cork screw still in - surely it’s part of good service to open the bottle and pour the first glass? When we did query about the food , the young waitress came back after talking with the chef and he seemed to have an answer for everything - not accomodating whatsoever.

Our first visit to Cotton House and can totally recommend it. Zac & Marcus are so enthusiastic and provide great service, as do the rest of their team. The food was excellent. Will certainly be back. Ralph & Donna

Absolutely love this place just been for a meal for 11 people for a birthday celebration - not one scrap of food left, cooked to perfection - highly recommend the game pie - lovely atmosphere and spot on service - will definitely be going back - thank you for a lovely evening

Beautiful atmosphere, lovely staff. Portion for beef dish very small for price paid, presentation good but burger on the wood platter could have done with a bigger platter!

We’ve just had our first visit to The Cotton House! The food and service were fabulous! The roast dinners are gorgeous and the whole family loved it. We’ll definitely be back.

Second time we’ve been and it didn’t disappoint, both had beef dinner with all the trimmings, got extra roasties and gravy… then in to the dessert of sticky toffee pudding and I’ve cream… not too pricey and the service was great

Food was delicious however service was lacking, 40min wait for main meal, 30min wait for desert and 20min wait for our change from bill, lots of choices on menu unavailable. Shame let themselves down could have been lovely

Received a lovely welcome from Zack and felt very festive. We had beef roasts, steak and ale pudding and steak. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All superb with generous portions and super tasty. Harry was very attentive and friendly. Will be back!!

Unfortunately, disappointed. We’ve been longing to eat here for some time. Finally got the chance to and we were underwhelmed. Friday night we were told we only had our table for 1.5 hours. Fair enough. After 50 minutes, we were asked to have our bottle of red (just ordered after food) at the bar as they needed the table. Very much, get them in and get them out. We didn’t feel valued. Also we chose the ‘fire’ room. Very small, lovely log burner in there but it never got put on so a cold night in December we ate in our coats. We won’t be back in a hurry. Food nice. Service not.

I visited The Cotton House on 2nd December to there bottomless brunch, It was my first visit (won’t be the last) I can say what a fantastic experience it was it is charming with so much character all the staff are so professional and nothing was to much trouble, food was delicious the chocolate brownie was to die for. The service was absolutely horrendous. I was being served by untrained teens and the only other staff there were the bar staff and one who seemed to be the manager, who were consistently on their mobile devices !! Won’t be back. Food was alright.

We didn’t book a table, but showed up on a Sunday late afternoon for a table of 2 with a small dog. The Cotton House did accommodate us (after I suggested the deck area). However it was clear that we were an after thought, we waited a while to order drinks, then the waitress forgot the water for the dog. After about 20 minutes we were informed they had ‘forgot’ to put our food order through and did we still want it?! The waitress assured us we would get our food order rushed through, however the manager turned up minutes later to inform us there was a large party upstairs being served and we may have to wait. The food came, luke warm, but nice quality roast beef. We were then informed (few mouthfuls into eating our food) that someone had booked the table next to us and could we move tables as she was allergic to dogs. The manager stated ‘don’t worry I won’t get you to leave as you’re still eating’ we then had no help to move coats, bags, drinks, food and a dog to the other side of the deck! Overall a poor experience considering I’ve been a number of times before and had a lovely meal and great service.

Excellent local restaurant and was very busy with groups, bustling atmosphere our family party of 10 were overlooking the river, food was absolutely superb even though we we warned it there could be a wait on the food which was no problem at all, well worth the wait and sample more of the drinks highly recommended

Came to the cotton house for Sunday lunch and we were nothing short of blown away. The food was fast and good portions, not to mention very tasty. All staff were fantastic but special mention goes to Grace who served us so attentively and professionally throughout our meal. Everyone's doing a great job here, fully recommend this place!

Just been in this afternoon for the first time with some friends & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, what a gem of a place! The food was excellent, along with the service & atmosphere. Definitely coming back.

We have been here before and it was a great experience but unfortunately that's not what we got this evening. 40 mins we waited for two meals until I asked where it was. At this point I also asked about a drink that had also not come to the table that we had ordered. The problem seemed to be in the kitchen as the other 3 tables in that room also had issues. Front of house staff could also do with some training as nobody came to check if everything was ok and I had to asked after 15 mins of arriving if I could order. We were ready to leave. Hopefully this will improve!

This is my second time here, first time was a Saturday night, came in for a couple of drinks with a friend. The service and staff were outstanding… and I’m very particular about customer service so this speaks volumes. The atmosphere was very pleasant, friendly and vibrant. The food smelled so good we ended up staying for something light and had 4 things from the starter menu. All were very different and very delicious and good value for money. I’m back today with my 12 year old daughter as the salt & pepper squid was amazing and it’s one of her favourite dishes. Even though the staff are different people to our last visit, again very impressed by how attentive, polite and knowledgeable they are. Definitely a place to try if you’re in the area ❤️

What a find. I've driven past it a million times but never visited. I wanted to go for lunch with my husband for my birthday and he suggested it here. We did book as it was a Friday afternoon. We chose the plant room. We visited just after it opened at 2.30pm. The menu was good and suitable for myself as a vegetarian but I do eat fish. The venue itself was very clean and tidy. The decor is very nice indeed. The food was excellent, we had three dishes and we enjoyed them all. The portion size was generous. The one thing that really did wow us was the service from the three servers that had dealt with us. The timings were perfect, service was just impeccable. We couldn't fault them at all. The owners should be proud of having these three lads working for them. We will certainly be back for sure and be recommending this place to our friends

Visited with family and friends for a Sunday lunch. Food was excellent as always, and the service was friendly and prompt. We’ve eaten here a number of times and never disappointed- and our friends visiting from London were impressed too.

We were recommended this place by our Airbnb host at a nearby treehouse and so came for a Sunday roast. We both ordered the beef roast, and were blown away by the quality of it. The beef itself was delicious and perfectly cooked, the potatoes and veg were great and the gravy was to die for. We consider ourselves pretty well versed in the world of roasts, and this was one of the best that we’ve had in a while. The staff were lovely, and really attentive, too. Highly recommended!

The garlic and chilli prawns somehow tasted of absolutely nothing. So disappointing when you could cook something nicer for yourself at home. Unsure if the service staff are shy or mute. They didn’t ask how the food was or if we wanted anything once and placed the food on the table in silence. The pints were as flat as the atmosphere. Perhaps this is the only restaurant in the area and there’s no other options.

Today was a difficult day for me and my son. My mum passed away on the 6th March. However, our waitress was lovely! I'm sorry that I didn't get her name but she was blonde. My son & I were both emotional & were given time to order. My son ordered the pork belly as a starter & wanted the sea bass but not with vegetables so he was allowed to have a side salad instead. I had the broccoli soup & lamb shoulder. Everything was beautifully cooked. We couldn't finish our meal & was allowed to take home home our left overs. What an absolutely wonderful restaurant run by lovely people! They were understanding about our situation & allowed us to take our time. Highly recommended!

Spent New Year here with friends. We chose battered fish and steak. The staff were very helpful and friendly advising on their cocktails and the food hot and tasty. Never had a disappointing evening yet.

Gorgeous meal out with a cosy table in the fire room and excellent attentive service. We had the squid rings, steak frites and lamb, all absolutely delicious, totally worth the price (£15-19/meal). Good range of beers / gins / wine available and took advantage of 2 for 10 cocktails 8pm-10pm. ***ALLERGY REVIEW*** if you have any allergy of any sort, I would recommend you think twice prior to booking at the cotton house if you have any sort of anxiety towards your allergy. upon arrival myself and my partner saw several allergen signs that initially put my mind at rest. However, upon ordering the waitress advised me that i needed to physically sign a waiver form so that they could cover their back incase anything happened. which as you can imagine was an instant worry, not only for myself but also any other customers eating here with allergies. the restaurant and the chef themselves dont even have trust in the safety they can provide to their customers. They attempted to justify this by saying "all the big restaurants in Manchester make you do this too" which is just not true as I've been eating out in restaurants all over Manchester throughout my life and have never been asked this. Due to this myself and my partner unfortunately left there and then.

Chicken was strange like it had been rolled in bacon that was not in the menu, they always include some sort of purée, not sure why they have to purée everything, the meals during the week aren’t great either not enough variety just burgers, was very expensive over £100 for 4 roast dinners, ( drinks and coffees) will probably not come here again,

Disgusting absolutely filthy. I wouldn’t eat here unless you want to catch disease . They have a rat infestation. I saw one in the beer garden and one in the basement. No wonder with this shed they keep their oil for your food in 🤢...

Great place. “Discovered” on our first night staying here and just kept coming back. Food is excellent, really good value for money and very tasty. Wine very, very good. Only area for improvement from us would be more veggie options on the menu, but totally get that the local market may not desire it.

Average food. Had the roast dinner but it was far from excellent. The beef was rare although the waitress said it would be pink I thought they meant medium-well not rare. The gravy was runny and needy to be thicker and carrots looked boiled than roasted. At £17 it was not worth the money

We booked a meal for 7 people Saturday night, we have been before and ate upstairs which was alright, but this time we asked for a table downstairs so we could compare as the tables upstairs for 6 or more are quite large and not very intimate( if you know what I mean) any how just one more thing about furniture etc, everything seems a little bit tired and wobbly also not the warmest place on earth to have some nosh. Which brings me on to the food 5 star 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 in my opinion and everybody agreed, not too expensive either,.not very often you find chicken Kiev on the menu these days, but we found it and it's delicious, perfect food in what my wife calls shabby chic surroundings, yeah whatever.

Popped by for a glass of wine and will definitely go back for food. The service is good and the front room is so cosy with the log burner. Menu looks great.
