Been a couple of times now, food been absolutely fabulous all round both times. Would highly recommend and look forward to going back, especially for Sunday roast which was the best I’ve found locally.

We ate a tasty Sunday Lunch, well-cooked with decent portions, although adding a side pads out the meal. The staff were friendly and attentive and made us feel welcomed.

Really lovely foodie pub decorated in a cool way embracing the victorian building. Super friendly & helpful staff, fab ambience & fab menu with good quality produce. Feel good tasty food done well ! Dog friendly to boot !

Really good food - choice and service excellent

Very nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon Only called in for a coffee after a long walk, and was bowled-over by the friendly welcome from the staff. The drinks menu looked great with an eclectic choice if gin and wine, and the food looked even better. Can't wait to go back!

I’ve been wanting to go here for ages and finally went with friends on a Saturday evening. It was lively and busy and had a really good atmosphere. The food was delicious. We had sticky short rib and chicken. The only downside for us was that they had run out of a couple of dishes on the menu. We had booked for 8pm so would go earlier next time and just demonstrates that the food is cooked fresh. Will definitely be back!

Our first time at The Cotton House. It was absolutely freezing, so much so that we had to eat with our coats on. My parents live locally and had asked on booking to be seated near somewhere warm as my father is 88 years old. They sat us next to the log burner which wasn’t on! We commented on how cold it was several times to staff who just passed it off or said they couldn’t do anything about it. My father asked a young man directly could we have the fire on and he sort of nodded and said ‘ok pal’ and was very dismissive- the fire remained unlit. We felt this was very disrespectful to an elderly gentleman. The food was variable. Some of my party enjoyed it, some said it was mediocre. The steak frites was asked for pink and it was well done and like a bit of shoe leather. Some of the food was cold but with the temperature in the pub being akin to that of a morgue refrigerator, I’m not surprised. The burger was good, if a little over-done. We would have liked dessert but at that point we were so cold we had to leave and thaw out. We get that it’s a lovely old building, but if you are welcoming guests in and want them to return, then I think it’s not a big ask to put the fire and the heating on. We felt some of the radiators and they also weren’t on. The only warm place was by the door underneath the heat curtain. I also understand business and the balance between heating costs and making a profit- I guess if you want to keep the business going you have to encourage people back in some way. It was ln the dining experience we had hope for- such a shame.

Our family have eaten here a few times and it’s been nothing shy of exceptional, it’s worth adding the Sunday dinner is on another level! The perfect amount of food, with fantastic flavour, presented perfectly and served by polite and very efficient staff. Could not ask for more! OUTSTANDING!

If you’re looking for a place to sit and eat, almost like the feeling you’d have at home, we all like to feel comfortable “right”?. Well hand on heart I can honestly say you’ve picked the right spot. Fancy a warm sitting I highly recommend the fire room, but one thing that also makes this place better than others is knowing you can even have your extended family with you 🧐 that’s right… the dogs 🐶. The drum roll 🥁… most importantly the food 🥘. One word… WOW 🤩. The food is by far on point. We all look a menu and think 🤔 I always have this and that… wrong 😑, the attention to detail in flavours and presentation is a winner. I seriously highly recommend pork belly because I guarantee you’ll be back, plus the Yorkshire puddings well I’m not say because seeing is believing…. One ☝️ clue 🕵️ it’s not small. And finally.. the hospitality is by far the key to compliment your visit. Most definitely 💯 % rating.

I went with my wife for Valentine’s Day. The menu was that good, I could have chosen everything. We had a magnificent dinner. The food the service all perfect 10/10.

I went to the cotton house last night with friends. Firstly the food was amazing...hats off to the chefs. However, the highlight of our evening was the lovely New Young lady waiting on. Apologies if i have her name wrong but I think her name was Jasmine. This young lady had an excellent manner and a fabulous sense of humour, she's a real asset to your team. Thank you for a lovely evening.

This place has become a favourite in our house for a Sunday lunch. Food was class and smiles on faces with service which was quick and drinks including cocktails were all on point. 10/10 will be definitely be going back for more

Visited today with friends for lunch, lovely friendly staff, great service, amazing food, I had chicken Caesar salad and it was the best I’ve ever had. All my friends said their food was great too. Lovely place and nice to see it busy. I’ve not been for a few years, I’ll definitely be returning.

I visited with friends from my Sunday Lunch Club, hoping that the roast would meet everyone's exacting standards! The atmosphere was upmarket but cosy - so perfect for any occasion - and the roast was a 10/10 (especially the veg and potatoes). A real gem!

Best place in the area! A fantastic local restaurant which is never afraid to change up their menu. From the staff on the front of house, to Robbie on the bar, everyone is more than happy to help. 5*!

We went to a baby shower in their function room and it was perfect. The service on the bar was brilliant. We had burgers (chicken/beef) and fries and they were good too especially the beef burger. The only one complaint I have, if I’m being really picky, is the lack of sauce! The same sauce pot was being moved from table to table rather than having some on each table. We will definitely be back to try the roast dinner as they looked fantastic!!

Good food, let down by slow service, run by what feels like a young team, and someone forgot to clean the public spaces. Visited for a friend’s birthday. The Cotton is a nice place to visit and to be fair the team are friendly. Menu is small, pushing towards pricey and I’d say an average pub selection. It is good quality and no one went home hungry. So my 3 stars aren’t a reflection on the food. I give three stars as the public spaces were dirty. Stairs down to the bathroom were filthy and there was a damp, unpleasant smell in the toilets. My other frustration with the Cotton house is that they have never given space up to those people that just want to have a drink. A tiny area around the bar, stools to sit own and usually filled. So trying to buy a drink at the bar inevitably means you’re pushing through people and just feel in the way. And dogs! Why in such a tiny space allow dogs in the place.

We had my daughter-in-law/ son’s baby shower here in the function room upstairs. Perfect Venue. We were able to gain access early in the day to decorate the room ( even the day before if there isn’t a function on that night) Marcus and Zak went out of their way to help us… nothing was too much trouble The food was fantastic!! I booked a table for two for my mum and I for her birthday. We have never eaten here before but everything was excellent from walking through the door. The service we received was super polite and just at the right level, not in your face or over the top, genuinely nice people. My mum ordered the Sea bass and I went for the beef burger which came with fries and slaw. Our mains were hot, fresh and timely. We then had a sticky toffee pudding to share and again faultless. All washed down with two lattes. Extremely good value for money and tasty delicious hot food made to order. What more can you ask for.

Roast season is well and truly upon us, and after a recent disappointing one in the Peak District, my partner and I were looking for one to lift our spirits. The Cotton House did not let us down. We had a beef roast and a pork roast, and added a portion of cauliflower cheese. The pork was soft but with a crispy skin and the flavour and portion size was spot on. The service quality is also worth noting, all the staff were super friendly and accommodating. We only live 40 minutes away, we will be back...

I have been consistently always impressed with The Cotton House. This establishment is perfect for any occasion. Whether you want a nice evening meal, a spot for some weekend brunch, or a casual drink, I would highly recommend this restaurant. The food is always phenomenal and at great value - portions are generous and meals are prepared to an excellent standard. The decor of the venue is very tasteful, and due to popularity, the busyness of the restaurant creates a tremendous family-friendly atmosphere. Most importantly, staff are attentive, friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The owners (Zak and Marcus) are both hardworking lads, always ensuring that service is amazing and that all customers are well looked after. On several occasions I have attended The Cotton House for drinks, food, brunch, and a Sunday Roast - and on every occasion, I have left being extremely impressed with my experiences. In particular, The Cotton House Breakfast and the Beef Sunday Roast have been two of the best meals I have had whilst dining out.

The Cotton House serves excellent food in fabulous surroundings. They have an outside seating area as well as 3 dining areas inside. The staff are exceptionally polite and the Management team are a pleasure to deal with. Recently had a Birthday meal for 20 and not one thing was out of place from beginning to end. Lovely restaurant but it felt as though there wasnt anyone in charge , nothing in particular wrong but just lacking in a welcome it was an awful evening wind rain blowing sideways even though its mid April and i was glad i had booked the fire room but the fire wasnt on and it was chilly . The food was delicious and the waiting on staff were lovely and attentive, polite . I will definitely eat here again i just feel it needs that person acting as a host to make it a better experience. The building is so lovely and modern and loved the wine cellar downstairs the decor etc but the toilets were a bit smelly a few of us commented on this so it wasnt just me being sensitive. Overall a good meal with friends with great food .

Unwelcoming/unfriendly staff, slow service. Half the food we ordered was cold when it arrived. Ordered a bottle of Chablis, was just placed on the table with the cork screw still in - surely it’s part of good service to open the bottle and pour the first glass? When we did query about the food , the young waitress came back after talking with the chef and he seemed to have an answer for everything - not accomodating whatsoever.

Went to the cotton tree for my father -in - laws 70th birthday and it will one he never forgets. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff and the food was out of this world , Zak the manager came down and introduced himself as did the other staff , the food was to die for and was delivered all at the same time (12 people ) . A big thank you to staff and the team well 100 per cent be back very soon . ( keep up the good work ) 👍🏻👍🏻

We’ve just had our first visit to The Cotton House! The food and service were fabulous! The roast dinners are gorgeous and the whole family loved it. We’ll definitely be back.

Second time we’ve been and it didn’t disappoint, both had beef dinner with all the trimmings, got extra roasties and gravy… then in to the dessert of sticky toffee pudding and I’ve cream… not too pricey and the service was great

Food was delicious however service was lacking, 40min wait for main meal, 30min wait for desert and 20min wait for our change from bill, lots of choices on menu unavailable. Shame let themselves down could have been lovely

Received a lovely welcome from Zack and felt very festive. We had beef roasts, steak and ale pudding and steak. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All superb with generous portions and super tasty. Harry was very attentive and friendly. Will be back!!

Unfortunately, disappointed. We’ve been longing to eat here for some time. Finally got the chance to and we were underwhelmed. Friday night we were told we only had our table for 1.5 hours. Fair enough. After 50 minutes, we were asked to have our bottle of red (just ordered after food) at the bar as they needed the table. Very much, get them in and get them out. We didn’t feel valued. Also we chose the ‘fire’ room. Very small, lovely log burner in there but it never got put on so a cold night in December we ate in our coats. We won’t be back in a hurry. Food nice. Service not.

I visited The Cotton House on 2nd December to there bottomless brunch, It was my first visit (won’t be the last) I can say what a fantastic experience it was it is charming with so much character all the staff are so professional and nothing was to much trouble, food was delicious the chocolate brownie was to die for. The service was absolutely horrendous. I was being served by untrained teens and the only other staff there were the bar staff and one who seemed to be the manager, who were consistently on their mobile devices !! Won’t be back. Food was alright.

We didn’t book a table, but showed up on a Sunday late afternoon for a table of 2 with a small dog. The Cotton House did accommodate us (after I suggested the deck area). However it was clear that we were an after thought, we waited a while to order drinks, then the waitress forgot the water for the dog. After about 20 minutes we were informed they had ‘forgot’ to put our food order through and did we still want it?! The waitress assured us we would get our food order rushed through, however the manager turned up minutes later to inform us there was a large party upstairs being served and we may have to wait. The food came, luke warm, but nice quality roast beef. We were then informed (few mouthfuls into eating our food) that someone had booked the table next to us and could we move tables as she was allergic to dogs. The manager stated ‘don’t worry I won’t get you to leave as you’re still eating’ we then had no help to move coats, bags, drinks, food and a dog to the other side of the deck! Overall a poor experience considering I’ve been a number of times before and had a lovely meal and great service.

Came to the cotton house for Sunday lunch and we were nothing short of blown away. The food was fast and good portions, not to mention very tasty. All staff were fantastic but special mention goes to Grace who served us so attentively and professionally throughout our meal. Everyone's doing a great job here, fully recommend this place!

Excellent local restaurant and was very busy with groups, bustling atmosphere our family party of 10 were overlooking the river, food was absolutely superb even though we we warned it there could be a wait on the food which was no problem at all, well worth the wait and sample more of the drinks highly recommended

We have been here before and it was a great experience but unfortunately that's not what we got this evening. 40 mins we waited for two meals until I asked where it was. At this point I also asked about a drink that had also not come to the table that we had ordered. The problem seemed to be in the kitchen as the other 3 tables in that room also had issues. Front of house staff could also do with some training as nobody came to check if everything was ok and I had to asked after 15 mins of arriving if I could order. We were ready to leave. Hopefully this will improve!

This is my second time here, first time was a Saturday night, came in for a couple of drinks with a friend. The service and staff were outstanding… and I’m very particular about customer service so this speaks volumes. The atmosphere was very pleasant, friendly and vibrant. The food smelled so good we ended up staying for something light and had 4 things from the starter menu. All were very different and very delicious and good value for money. I’m back today with my 12 year old daughter as the salt & pepper squid was amazing and it’s one of her favourite dishes. Even though the staff are different people to our last visit, again very impressed by how attentive, polite and knowledgeable they are. Definitely a place to try if you’re in the area ❤️

What a find. I've driven past it a million times but never visited. I wanted to go for lunch with my husband for my birthday and he suggested it here. We did book as it was a Friday afternoon. We chose the plant room. We visited just after it opened at 2.30pm. The menu was good and suitable for myself as a vegetarian but I do eat fish. The venue itself was very clean and tidy. The decor is very nice indeed. The food was excellent, we had three dishes and we enjoyed them all. The portion size was generous. The one thing that really did wow us was the service from the three servers that had dealt with us. The timings were perfect, service was just impeccable. We couldn't fault them at all. The owners should be proud of having these three lads working for them. We will certainly be back for sure and be recommending this place to our friends

Visited with family and friends for a Sunday lunch. Food was excellent as always, and the service was friendly and prompt. We’ve eaten here a number of times and never disappointed- and our friends visiting from London were impressed too.

We were recommended this place by our Airbnb host at a nearby treehouse and so came for a Sunday roast. We both ordered the beef roast, and were blown away by the quality of it. The beef itself was delicious and perfectly cooked, the potatoes and veg were great and the gravy was to die for. We consider ourselves pretty well versed in the world of roasts, and this was one of the best that we’ve had in a while. The staff were lovely, and really attentive, too. Highly recommended!

The garlic and chilli prawns somehow tasted of absolutely nothing. So disappointing when you could cook something nicer for yourself at home. Unsure if the service staff are shy or mute. They didn’t ask how the food was or if we wanted anything once and placed the food on the table in silence. The pints were as flat as the atmosphere. Perhaps this is the only restaurant in the area and there’s no other options.

Staff very attentive and friendly - food was delicious, we had the Ribeye and Beef cheek and both were cooked perfectly. The place itself is a really nice setting and very welcoming.
