Quality of the food would get 5 stars, however the quantity for the price 3 stars. I feel as I was eating late the portions were being rationed. When paying £16 for a beef Sunday lunch you really expect a filling meal. I did ask where the Yorkshire pudding was, to be told “we have run out”. Maybe if I was told beforehand I would have chosen different. It does seem a little petty, but if an expectation is set and not met then people will feel let down.

Booked for 12 of us for lunch for a special occasion food was good except for wanting a side salad with no dressing which was changed for us . We asked for dessert menu and was told we would have to hurry and choose as there was a wedding party booked in , when I booked the meals had I been told this we would have booked earlier as we felt we were being rushed to hurry up , we left and had another drink elsewhere in town .

We went to The Red Lion to try their platter. It was excellent: a fine selection of Moyden's cheese & Shropshire charcuterie, all served with bruschetta, crackers, chutney, olives, grapes & salad. The quality & quantity were spot on, more than enough for 2 people. At £15, it is also excellent value. We went for platters at a nearby wine bar & they weren't a patch on this. The wine & beer choice is also very good. We'll be back!

We arranged to meet family at the Joules Red Lion on a recommendation from a colleague, and really pleased we did, it's a lovely setting in the town centre and has its own brewery which was very interesting. But the best part was the food, good sized portions of well cooked quality ingredients, I had the pork belly which was stunning and the fish & chips and sausages & mash looked amazing. We were so full we couldn't manage deserts! Well recommended, we will definitely return

Disappointed as came here specifically for the GF option. No GF beer available. Ordered a pulled pork burger with chips GF only to be told only one deep fat fryer so not GF chips available. Changed the meal for a GF masaman curry. Meal arrived with prawn crackers...asked the waiter are they GF prawn crackers only to be told no. Meal had to be replaced due to cross contamination. Very disappointing experience.

We chose to eat here because of the GF options on the menu listed on the website. If you want Gluten free food or drinks do not go to the Red Lion. They have no GF beers or lager on offer. The meals classified as GF should not be had with chips because apparently cross contamination ,with the fryers being next to each other, cannot be guaranteed. That meant a change of meal. The revised GF meal that arrived was adorned with prawn crackers that were not GF. So that had to go back! Although issues were raised, I am concerned about the chef's capabilities and awareness of GF in the meals being offered and served from the menu.

The main course was excellent, couldn’t fault it in any way. HOWEVER, the service was dire. We had to eventually go and request a menu to order, then nobody came to clear and ask if we wanted dessert, after a very long while we went again and asked for the table to be cleared and a dessert menu, only to be told the kitchen was closed. They did remove the cost of drinks from the bill. This is unacceptable service when there appeared to be plenty of staff at the bar.

Called in for a pint - been doing that in this pub for the last 30+ years. A lot of new staff recently. The individual behind the bar this time was in a bad mood and was determined to share his negativity, he was thoroughly unprofessional, aggressive and unpleasant, it was as if he thought we should be grateful he could spare the time to serve us - we left our drinks and complained to the manager. It used to be a really friendly, welcoming pub and this incident spoiled our Sunday afternoon. As an aside - the Pale Ale is not what it used to be - looks good but the head is weak and never sticks to the glass. So we went to The Hippodrome. A JDW pub. None of the above issues. Staff are professional, friendly and Ruddles is £1.71 a pint:)

Have been here a couple of times for burgers, usually very good. This time, however, not so much. The burgers were totally undercooked (mine was VERY pink inside, my girlfriend's was RED). Took it back to the bar and asked for them to be cooked through, where the waitress kindly took it to the kitchen then to the manager, who sent them back to us telling us "they're supposed to be like that" so wouldn't re-cook them. Well they weren't like that when we've been before, and I've never heard of burgers that are supposed to be served RED. I gave the benefit of the doubt and ate mine (it tasted rubbish but I was quite hungry by that point); girlfriend wouldn't even try another bite. She made the right decision, of course, as she wasn't up half the night with an upset stomach. Will NOT be coming back.

Excellent beer from the adjacent brewery. The specials menu was "good old fashioned pub grub" at sensible prices (£7 for steak and kidney pie, chips, mushy peas and gravy) and it was nicely cooked and presented. Desserts were £5 or £6 and the cheesecake in particular was delicious. All the bar staff were friendly. The log burner was burning logs, and it was a cozy place for a meal and a nice warming pint. The Red Lion is Joules Brewery Tap, the brewery being situated at the rear of the pub. As such it is, obviously, the flagship of the Joules estate, and deservedly so - it's an excellent pub all round; good food, great ales and a cracking pub atmosphere. There's an extensive, reasonably priced food menu featuring all the pub favourites plus a selection of more interesting items. I opted for what was an excellent Herb Crusted Hake Fillet (£14) which came with bacon wrapped green beans (an interesting and enjoyable combination), parmentier potatoes and a white wine & garlic sauce. Most agreeable, washed down with a pint of Pale Ale, brewed a few yards away. The original Red Lion remains fairly unaltered and has a traditional pub atmosphere whilst, like many Joules pubs, it has a more modern extension to the rear.

Don’t normally write reviews but felt this deserved one! First of all, my friend and I were completely blanked at the bar when trying to order our food (the barman was too busy chatting to his friend, oblivious to the fact that anyone would like to order food and drinks). When we finally managed to be served by someone else, I was short changed by £4. Luckily I checked my change and mentioned that I had not received the correct amount back. We were told it would be half an hour wait for food, which ended up being an hour. Once the food arrived it was barely edible. Cold chips that were undercooked (to the point of still being hard inside for some of them). Beetroot and feta burger was also cold and did not contain feta. One of the staff came over to ask if our food was okay, but got distracted by talking to a friend in the pub before we could even give a response, then she walked away. Will not be returning!

Apologies for the late review but circumstances wouldn’t allow took part in the charity Joules pedal and pint cycled 27.5 miles and was told we would receive a free beverage on completion of the cycle ride. However after cycling for 3 hours in the heat I was disappointed to be told the only drink I could have was a pint of Joules beer - I don’t drink and when I explained that the woman behind the bar replied and said “ well that’s your problem “ I walked out and will never recommend this pub to anyone. I emailed head office and they were very apologetic however the attitude of the staff that day was appalling my friend who also doesn’t drink was also told the same thing about not being able to have a soft drink. I have worked in the pub industry and am aware there is a lot of profit in soft drinks so a simple gesture of offering a soft drink instead would not have broken the bank. Reading the other reviews there are lot mentioning the attitude of the bar staff. Sort yourselves out !!

It was really busy, and we thought we would be waiting ages, but no! The young lady Summer in her first week(we found out after our meal) kept smiling and talking to people, saying she would be there soon, and she was. We came out of the Red Lion very contented.

50th birthday meal for 4 people, 3 out of the 4 couldn't have the meal they wanted as they'd ran out. Waiter didn't bring the menu back over so had to decide there and then what else to have, picked another meal and that wasn't available either. The cauliflower 'burger' was a slice of raw cauliflower that had been shown the pan for about a minute and was awful. Our friends had to go and fetch their pies from the other room which were served in a cardboard box, gravy was extra £? Beer was very nice. All in all a bad experience and won't be returning.

Suggested by the owners of tern hill farm b and b, and glad I came. Camembert was stunning, the fish and chips sheer perfection and the beer beautiful. Staff lovely too.

A fellow in town recommended the Red Lion at the Joule's Brewery to us and we made it there for lunch today. What a glorious place it is! Loved the décor and atmosphere...the bar is beautiful! The menu has good choices and the Steak sandwich hit the spot...the side salad was fine but their chips are the best I've ever eaten! The ladies made us feel extremely welcome and comfortable...most attentive and that is a plus. Can recommend this pub to anyone now that we've thoroughly enjoyed their offerings. Note that they have a large car park at the back of the property which is very convenient.

Six of us ate at the Red Lion. From entering to leaving the whole experience was faultless. Lovely friendly staff and superb interior that was spotless. The food came out together and all piping hot and presented really well on the plates. Everyone commented on how nice their meal was. Full marks to the whole team at the Red Lion and I would definitely highly recommend.

Eaten here at lunchtime on many occasions. First visit in the evening. Food of a good standard mostly. Had to send food back in the past as it wasn't warm enough. Not a problem this time Desserts are pricey for the small portions, so give them a miss now. Drinks also a little expensive. Nice enough atmosphere though.

Arrived from Falkirk Friday 19/01/24 @1pm after reading reviews looking forward to a hot shower and rest up for the night as not loading until 5am only to find it closed as a snap site you would expect it to be open they charge enough for parking! If I’d got the drive time I would of moved on very disappointed

What a find we were staying at Ludlow Touring site and booked Sunday lunch at The Wheatsheaf . The pub was really welcoming warm and comfortable. We were two couples who went for Sunday lunch and we all agreed it was the best Sunday lunch we had had at a pub and really good value . The beef and lamb were really tender and there was a good selection of vegetables all cooked perfectly. The service was good and nothing too much trouble. Thank you for making our first visit a success

Been for lunch today and ordered the soup carrot and butternut squash which was OK, I asked for a brown roll but instead I got boring sliced brown so i asked for a roll and was told they didn't have any but could get me seedy one, that came straight from the freezer I think and was the so dry it would of made good bread crumbs .not worth £7.45 for the tiny bowl of soup 😡

Surprisingly quiet for a Sunday, but great service and a good selection of drinks.
