Checking out what would be local during the week with my son. Fabulous reception by owner, great pub for a drink! Actually quite refreshing to have a pub that just sells drinks too for a change! All the customers were in good spirits, hopefully will be my local, just have to keep fingers crossed!

A pub of the people! A friendly pub with amazing atmosphere, lovely locals and delicious drinks! Every sporting event under the sun shown on big screens, a stunning outdoor terrace area for topping up the tan and cool refreshments - truly heaven on earth! If they don't have something on when you visit then they're planning the next exciting evening - meat raffles, karaoke and quizzes - you name it they've got it. The wonderful staff know exactly what they're doing! Would recommend again, again, again and again!

The Red Lion is a rarity in today's world, a traditional pub where even as a stranger you are welcomed with open arms by the staff and the regulars. There is plenty on offer, from quiz nights, sport, dartboard and pool table. if you just want to enjoy a quiet drink then there's nothing nicer than relaxing in front of a roaring fire and the best thing of all is that it is dog friendly. Highly recommend this to all. I enjoyed my visit so much I now work there. I took my husband there last Sunday for lunch, the roast dinner is exceptional.

Although I live locally I have never taken a meal at the Red Lion under the present owners until last Sunday. What a treat I've been missing. Myself and my extended family visited for Sunday lunch. What can I say "Simply superb." Lashings of lovely food, beautifully cooked and served by two happy, smiling people Deb and Fran. I shall have to make my Sunday visits more frequent. Sorry to say that food is only served on Saturday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes. I cannot recommend the Red Lion more highly. If one wants a good well cooked meal in pleasant surroundings give this place a try!!

Visited on a Sunday lunchtime when a small menu of meal options were available, all for £9.95 for main course and dessert. Excellent value and very large servings. Undercharged us and refused to charge us the extra when we pointed it out as we had been honest! Roast dinners came with roast potatoes, parsnips and peas, only to be followed a minute later by a large platter of extra choices of vegetables and boiled potatoes plus a bowl of cauliflower cheese. Couldn't manage to finish it all Highly recommended.

We called in to the Red Lion on our way back home from watching the cricket at Worcester one Friday evening recently, the staff were all pleasant and friendly and having not been in here to eat for some time, we decided to give the food a try. I chose from the specials board and had a beef on the bone dish and my wife chose a jacket potato with tuna. My wife said hers was ok, mine was a little disappointing in that I would have expected the meat o fall apart and melt in your mouth, but unfortunately it was somewhat on the tough side which was a shame. Perhaps we will go back sometime and try the steaks and see what they are like.

We stopped here for lunch on our way back home from Worcester . A Very quiet pub probably due to time of year, plus we were in quite early on at lunchtime , we read trip reviews before we decided to try it as we always do this now , reviews were quite good. The smell of bleach when arriving inside pub was a bit strong and a bit off putting though. We ordered garlic mushrooms on thick toasted chunky bread served with salad for starters , which was yummy, followed by steak and ale pie with chips and peas , the pie was ok but rather hot and peppery, the meat could of done with cooking for longer as some pieces were quite tough and chewy , the smaller pieces of meat were quite tender , but for £8.95 for two courses we couldn't complain . Girl behind bar was pleasant and friendly .It would of been quite nice if the log burner was lit as it was quite cold in the pub.

We went last night to have their steak deal (£24.95 for two 8oz rumps and a bottle of wine) which is slightly more expensive than the other steak deals around town. On arrival, we sat down to be served and had a very friendly waitress. Our receiving our order, our initial reactions was that it was a good portion of food, that looked really nice and freshly cooked. The chips were fresh, and it was nice to have decent serving of salad. After to first mouthful of food a waitress asked how we were getting on (before having tried the steak) and my husband replied "ok". Sadly it went downhill from there. My steak was more sinew than steak and really very tough. By the time I cut the sinew out - I was left with little more the half the steak I paid for. My husbands was better, but not great. When our plates were taken from us, we mentioned it to the waitress (I think it was her first night), and I must be honest, I am not sure she mentioned to the chef.On paying we were asked if we enjoyed the food, and we both said that our steaks were tough, and although cooked perfectly (rare) not very pleasant. The waitress was very apologetic, and said she would have a chat to the chef, who at this stage was sitting outside having a cigarette. She came back and said that she had spoken to the chef and he said "next time we come, he will make sure we get a cut we like!!!!" Not only did I find that very presumptive, as he is assuming we are going to go back but I really think it was a very poor answer to a genuine complaint. We ate several time a month, and really aren't prone to complaining, but just felt that the food was a real let down, but on top of that, the response from management was even more disappointing. So my comment would be, avoid the steaks, and if you don't enjoy your food, don't expect any reaction from the chef.

Friendly staff, when we booked they made sure we knew the rugby would be on and asked if we required a table away from the screen. The food was tasty but didn't quite "do it". Probably a mistake to order fish and chips when we have such great fish n chips where we live but this was disappointing, nothing really wrong but not as good as we hoped. My steak and ale pie was delicious , tender meat and good gravy but the combination didn't result in a great pie! Too much gravy, (and I love lots of gravy) not really thick enough and the usual format of a pastry top on a dish of stew. Also, why place the dish on a paper napkin on the plate so it is impossible to turn it out to eat?

First impressions (TV and gaming machine) belies what turned out to be a really great lunch. Arrived about 1230 hrs to find only one other guest sitting at the bar. Warm welcome from the landlady and because there were only a few customers, we were treated to table service (normally ordering at the bar with table No.). Drinks came quickly and there was a good assortment of 'specials', apart from the menu card. We were a party of four (1 x steak, 1 x gammon, 1 x liver and bacon and 1 x homemade Korma curry). General opinion was excellent all round and I (curry) could only look on in envy at the generous portions of the other three - maybe a slightly larger bowl/plate next time please! Taste comments from everyone were extremely complimentary and we later told the Chef so. This was a real 'find' and good to v good value for money. Next time we will try the 'steak' night - steaks for two and a bottle of wine £25.00. What more could you ask for?

Received a warm welcome, the food was simple but very good pub food. Especially liked the basket meals (lemon sole / chicken goujons) with hand cut chips which were devoured by the children. My ribeye steak was as good as I get from my butcher and my wife loved the lasagne which she is convinced was home made. No sign of small helpings. Didn't have pud as this was a quick stop but they sounded tempting and not expensive, we will just have to come back. Overall a very good experience.

We have visited the Red Lion quite regularly but are by no means "locals" although we feel we are always treated as such. The 3 of us enjoyed our meals although my mother who's birthday (93) we were celebrating couldn't quite finish her 8 oz steak. We mentioned in passing to the young lady who cleared the table that it was mum's birthday and that she was 93. The young lady cleared the table but returned soon to ask my mother's name and shortly after the whole pub sang happy birthday to her. What a lovely thought and thanks to the male voice choir. Our thanks for everything!

We have driven past this place many times on the way to our more popular haunt but decided on this night to give it a try. We were greeted by a friendly bar girl who was very helpful. The menu is not the most exciting but covered most of our tastes with the only think missing in my opinion was a nice home cooked pie. I had cod and chips, Sarah has the steak and our friend had the huge burger. We all enjoyed the food very much and there were some nice touches like the home cooked chips. Very good value for money and would rather eat here than in one of the large chains. No complaints at all.

Excellent quality food at very reasonably prices. £10 for roast lamb, pork or beef. All served at the table with beautifully cooked vegetables. Lovely presentation and hot plates so the meal stayed nice and hot. The new management were very friendly and chatty. The waitress was very attentive. The pub has been decorated to suite its era. Would have loved to have seen an open log fire I think it would really give the place that warm glowing feeling. We will certainly be coming back again.

We checked this pub earlier in the day for wheelchair access for my elderly mother and having established that there was easy access from the rear car park decided to book for lunch,on Saturday 15/11, after reading several favorable reviews about the food.we chose the £10 3 course menu (also available as 1 course for £6 and 2 courses for £8 steak was an extra £2) We had potato skins and soup as starters. The potato skins were served very attractively with a dip and salad and a generous portion. Soup was broccoli and stilton served with roll and butter and I am pleased to say was piping hot (soup needs to be hot) and tasted delicious. We all elected for 6 oz steak and were impressed with the presentation when served with onion ring, grilled tomato and mushrooms and individual portions of hand cut chips which were again piping hot. We were a little worried that the oldest amongst us would struggle with the steak but it was tender, easily cut and tasty. My mother always thinks steak knives are "ominous". One of us ordered a sweet which was equally good but their eyes were too big for their belly and it couldn't be finished. The staff were very welcoming and the service was good. The place was quiet when we arrived but people arrived steadily and all the food coming past us looked lovely. All in all a lovely lunch at a reasonable price and we will return. We were told that the place had only finished being refurbished in the past month. it is full of character and the legend on the wall states that it was used as a hospital during the Battle of Powick during the Civil War at the time of Charles II.

The service was faultless and the food was lovely and really large portions. There was also a children's menu and having children in the pub wasnt a problem either!!! which is rare these days.I would highly recommend for sunday lunch and the wine was spot on too. Many thanks we will be returning soon.

Having passed this pub a lot and seen numerous "under new management" signs, we decided to try it out after a friend commented that the steak she had there was the best she had ever had. We were more than impressed. My steak was superb and cooked correctly, which is not always the case, and hubby's Cajun chicken was delicious. The atmosphere was welcoming and the service attentive without being too much. Already planning when we will be going again

visited the pub last week with 3 friends and we all had the 3 course menu for a £10 & we weren't disappointed. The soup, parsnip was delicious and so was the bread & butter pudding. My friend & I had the gammon and my other friend paid a bit extra for the steak. The mains were satisfactory. The real ale was nice too, with a good selection.Only minus was the smokers outside the front door, which included the landlady, or who appeared to be the landlady. Every time the door opened we got a waft of cigarette smoke, which was unpleasant.Well worth a visit but avoid the seats by the door if you don't like smoke

My wife & I ate at the Red Lion last night (18/10/14) and had an excellent meal. The steaks were cooked well and were as good as anywhere in the Malvern area. We have eaten at much more expensive venues and this was up there with them. The staff were welcoming and attentive. We will definitely be back.

We recently popped into the red lion for a spot of lunch as we heard it had been reopened. Serving food all day it really is a cute little pub. The service is excellent. The food by my opinion is not you standard "pub grub" it tasted fresh and not just out of a microwave like you get and some pubs, very good home cooked food with a extra touch of class. I really enjoyed it and it was extremely well priced! Defiantly worth a go and we will be going back :)

This pub has just reopened and started now to offer food. We've been twice over the last few days and were mightily impressed. Liver and onions better than my dear old Mum used to make and soup so clearly not out of a tin. We've both been delighted with the quality and presentation of the food. The new licencee has plans to improve the decor and rumour has it there will be an open fire soon which will really help play to this pubs strengths. I'm looking forward to many more lovely meals there.

Stopped here for lunch, and it lived up to generally excellent reviews. My wife's rare ribeye steak was superb with great flavour, and I chose the equally good steak and ale pie. Large portions, nice accompaniments, and very pleasant and thoughtful bar staff. Quiet when we were there and deserves to be busier. Highly recommended

We visited the pub last month. It is in a nice convenient location between Malvern and Worcester. The pub looks clean and well laid out, with an area with tables and a bar area. From our trips past the kitchen it seemed clean and organised. Staff were friendly, but not very drilled in modern customer service if you know what I mean. Our overall criticism was that somehow it seems that they are just not very well set up for the family Sunday lunch market. Firstly they don't do a specific children's portion. This means that eating with under 5's is either trickier or more expensive. It seems weird that they don’t do this, as I would imagine it is a money maker overall, say charge £5 for a much smaller plate. Secondly they were a little slow, not chronically, just taking time to prepare. When the food came it wasn't bad. Meat was very good quality, (but they didn’t ask how we would like it, rare, well done etc) roast potatoes were large and a little bit undercooked / hard inside. Veggies were great and there were lots of them. They didn’t have a particularly children orientated drinks or desert menu, we weren’t asked if we needed a high chair etc. So overall I would say it was a nice experience, and wouldn’t mind going back, but probably a lower scoring place if you have younger children.

Passing by thinking of eating here, we stopped for a drink with a view to eating. Pear shaped.... No one at the bar.....5 mins to be served and not very welcoming, no apols. What was really worrying was that a male at the bar was so something he could not articulate, and a female , clearly a regular was announcing her sexual intents for the evening to all. No one told her to shut it. We liked the decor but left feeling a bit scared. I see food is circa £10+ but regardless of the good reviews probably written for a freeby, I will avoid as I value my life. What a shame.. AVOID

I have used this restaurant on about 12 occasions and had found it reasonable value with good steaks. I booked a table for two by phone, at lunchtime on the 8th. February, starting time for 7pm. that date. On arrival the book was checked and my booking had been missed off. The restaurant was nearly empty and we were shown to a table in a cramped corner with a family of two adults and three children at the side. Totally unnecessary, better for them and us, if we had been kept separate. Children were in and out, running around and even being sick! Debris was appearing on the floor, plastic bottles and food waste, which was not cleared up even when the family had left. We were shown little but contempt by staff and no consideration. I now that I made the reservation with manager. He was not present in the evening and there was nobody with whom to voice any concerns. Thoroughly disgusting.

Other reviews have commented on the restaurant being cold and I must admit that it was a bit chilly for us, we also found furnishings more basic than we had expected. The lady at the bar was very polite and helpful, but appeared to be on her own and struggled to provide good service. We ordered the olives and the nachos to start, the nachos were very tasty but the olives were initially served without the ciabatta and were in a very small bowl and tasteless, when requested the bread arrived but was an ordinary white loaf with foil wrapped butter. For main course we had sea bass, this was very good, it was well cooked and presented. We thought that the prices were a little expensive for the surroundings and the olives badly let down what was otherwise a good meal.

went here with my partner on the groupon offer, in january. the food we had was very good.....i particularly liked the mission statement in the menu, explaining the owners' desire to source most of the food locally - it indicated a real desire on the part of the owners to ensure the quality of the food.... my partner had the chilli prawns starter, and i had duck and orange pate. the prawns were perfectly cooked, still soft, and well seasoned,. they were served with a delish salad and very tasty dressing. a perfect starter. my pate was served with the same salad , 2 good sized slices of fresh still warm toast, and the pate was served in an individual ramekin dish with a good layer of butter on the top indicating it was home made, and not just a slice from a piece from the wholesalers. it was very rich and tasty, and again, perfect. for mains, i had the pie - the menu refers to a pie of the week and i was liucky enough to have steak and ale. again, it was an individual pie, and not a slice from a bigger one, nor a pile of stew with a piece of puff pastry balanced on top. it was packed full of meat and mushroom, and not padded out with carrot or other veg. a true meat pie ! and the pastry was perfect - not shortcrust but a very fine layer of puff that was still moist and soft underneath, not all crispy...it was served with a bowl of veg and huge chips. it was the perfect pie although could have been served with a little extra gravy - there was so much meat in the pie ! my partner had the sea bass - 2 good sized fillets, pan fried in a little chilli butter, but not at all greasy. it was very tasty and moist and i would say very fresh. she shared the chips and veg. my partner then had a single scoop of vanilla and toffee sauce toppped with walnuts....again, perfect.the staff were very friendly, and the service attentive. the food, the service, and the drinks were just perfect.but.... 2 big complaints...sorry, but in the interests of balance and honesty. i have to say the menu is a bit odd.....thrown together without any balance...starters included cheesy nachos, bbq wings, and a bowl of olives ! whilst the pate and prawns were delish, there wouldnt have been very much else for us. and mains included a lot of steaks, burgers, pie of the week, and then seafood linguine (which sounded lovely), and the bass, ...so a couple of high end dishes, and a lot of grub ! but to repeat, the food was wonderful.big moan.....a complete lack of atmoshere or ambience.....sorry...there are many comments as to the coldness of the place - well, its not just the temperaturre. whoever refurbed this place really should be shot....the mismatched ceramic floor tiles upon entry - there are two clearly different colours, the little restaurant area at the back lacks any character - who's idea were the metallic red venetian blinds ??? they would look quite nice in an ikea bathroom, but in a cosy country pub!!.....and the fires....there appear to be two old hearths, but all closed up with chintzy little decorations.....open them up, make a feature of the, a focal point, and spread some warmth. and the bar area has been fitted on the cheap - there are areas without beading or edging... just a slab of granite stuck in....there were 3 local lads drinking at the bar, and three tables of diners - one of whom asked to be moved to a warmer area....it really does deserve to be MUCH MUCH busier, but being as empty as it was, and with such cold clinical decor, it really was a cold experience....so come on owners, read these comments, and make the place warmer and more inviting - the food is great so dont spoil it by expectig people to eat it in such a cold clinical environment.it was an enjoyable evening none the less, by virtue of the food, and of the owners' passion to please, but......it has a long way to go to become the perfect pub.

I visited the Red Lion in Powick with two friends on a friday lunch time in December, just before Christmas. We went in and sat down at a table and just as I was about to get up to order some drinks from the bar, a very scruffy looking manager leaned over the bar and shouted 'oi, it aint waiters service'. I don't know why we stayed to eat, but we did and I have to say the food was really nice. It was cooked promptly and tasted really good. The service however did not improve and my friends and I were not impressed with the managers attitude.

We visited the Red Lion on a Groupon voucher offer last night and based on the excellent Tripadvisor ratings we had high hopes indeed. We arrived and found an easy parking space on their carpark and were greeted by a very friendly bar lady who took us to our table. The first issue we encountered was how cold the restaurant area was. I don't mind things being a little cool, but the temperature was so cool we both fet uncomfortable and asked to be moved. The staff were very friendly, apologised and found us a new table next to a radiator which was much better. For starters I ordered the chilli prawns and my partner the nachos. My prawns were unfortunately very dry, hot and with practically no flavour and were served on a bed of salad comprised predominantly raw peppers which was a bit much. That said the salad dressing was very nice. The nachos were plentiful and hot but were unfortunately smothered in the most enormous pile of molten cheddar which was a) overkill and smothered the nachos and b) the wrong type of cheese and just didn't work. For main course I had the pork sizzler in pepper sauce with veg and chips. The veg and chips were very nice but the sizzler was swimming in oil looked very unappetising indeed and it had absolutely no flavour whatsoever and I mostly left it. My partner had the fillet steak which came with the same tasteless pepper sauce and was very chewy indeed. When we asked for the bill we were charged extra for the prawns and fillet steak which whilst it may have been excluded from the offer would've been nice to have pointed out to us when we ordered, so we were fully informed rather than to find out when the bill was presented.Unfortunately things didn't end here as we both felt very queasy indeed that night and my partner in particular was decidedly unwell.I can only conclude that for whatever reason we were the victims of an 'off day' as lots of people have posted excellent reviews. I sincerely hope this is the case. I wish the Red Lion all the best but we won't be visiting again.

After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.
