I stayed only for 3 nights....I had a good bedroom but for my friends it is been awful...noisy...noisy...noisy. The staf is lovely ...drinks are good....but the bedroom windows should be doubled. The evening , outside, the customers make a lot of noise....good for a drink but not for sleeping.

Whilst the food we ate was nice….the kids 2 x meals and our 2 x meals were pretty small. Our waitress wasn’t overly friendly and we had to hunt for someone to pay, waiting ten mins. They added a service charge of 15% which I would be happy to pay for amazing service… but this it was not. A bit hit and miss.

Roast beef dinner £25! Awful! Two small slices of beef that was difficult to cut with a knife and had a large fat ratio. Soggy roast potatoes papery Yorkshire. Very disappointing Children’s fish and chips. Fish was dry. And that place isn’t cheap. I don’t mind paying good money if I am getting quality food.

Joined Red Lion on a cold December night with friends. The three course meal arrived.... absolutely tasteless starter with a whole lettuce chunked in because the chef probably was lazy to cut it? Main menu was venisson.... about a bite and a half ( kids size), the suffering was over in about a minute. Desert was good, but 45£ for Christmas meal of dissapointment.... NEVER AGAIN!!

We choose this place to come to with friends and family this Sunday just gone as I had recently popped in for a couple of drinks after work and thought the menu looked good. I was wrong!!! Between us we had pork and beef roast dinners. Not one of us was even close to impressed! I’m not one for wanting a plate full to the brim with food but I do expect good flavour especially when the beef is priced around the £25 mark. The whole meal was completely bland. No seasoning had been used, the potatoes were over cooked, veg was just a wet mess and the meat was awful. A little seasoning can go along way! Credit is given where credit is due. The Yorkshire was pretty good but not worth £25. I can’t understand how they come up with pricing because I’ve had fantastic roast dinners from £18-£22. I’ve had my nans Aunt Bessie roast dinners that put this to shame. Whether it’s the chef or the management choosing to serve this rubbish they are really letting this lovely looking place down and ripping people off with these prices.

We enjoyed a late Sunday lunch after a matinee theatre show at Aylesbury and throughly enjoyed the experience. The pub has been tastefully renovated retaining its character and the good weather allowed us to enjoy the large attractive covered outdoor terrace. Service was excellent - friendly and prompt without intrusion. All three roasts (sirloin pork and veggie) were excellent with decent helpings. Sirloin was lovely- thick slices and nicely pink (you can specify how you like the beef). Special mention to the best Yorkshire puddings I have eaten (sorry mother) - perfect blend of crunch and softness. There was a decent selection of veg and a boat of lovely silky gravy. All three plates were clean and all three punters will return. Great job.

Seven of us met for lunch last Sunday. I had roast chicken. I seem to have had half a chicken on my plate and a massive Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, half a carrot, half a parsnip and a very small portion of overcooked cabbage. I asked for bread sauce - none, cranberry sauce - none. So in fact a very tasteless slab of chicken.

We had the crab linguine which was significantly lacking in crab and not worth £21. We were not offered a wine list so ordered 2 glasses of Sauvignon only to find we were charged £12.50 per glass afterwards. We would not have chosen this if we had been aware of the price! We were rushed throughout the meal and given our bill before we had even finished our wine! We felt harressed by the waitresses constantly being asked about the food and then given our bill without asking for it. We then went through to the bar where an Espresso Martini was ordered. When it arrived it was well below the usual serving and about three quarters full. We left feeling very disappointed but then decided to complain the next day. The lady behind the bar was very apologetic and wanted to offer some sort of recompense but this was refused by the Manager. So, you have lost 2 local customers who have visited regularly for your poor customer care.

Really poor roast dinner. This place is overpriced and ropey. The only positive was that the service was friendly. Four adults, 2 kids all with a soft drink each. Bill was £150!!!! Shocking. A roast dinner was £25 each and substandard. Roast potatoes undercooked and inedible, one carrot, one parsnip, dry meat, no horseradish and no crackling with the pork. The further through the review I get the more I think it should be 2 stars.

Booked here after a friend recommended. Very small choice on menu only to be told that some items weren’t available which didn’t leave much of a choice. The waitress was very sweet but obviously embarrassed at times. A couple also walked out looking like they weren’t impressed either. The restaurant was say 90% empty and a Saturday night. We are 4 adults with a variety of food ordered and have been dining locally for about 30 years. This is by far the worse meal we have experienced. To sum it up,it was either dry, chewy, tough and deep fried, generally very very poor quality. We did complain and in fairness to the staff we spoke to,did not charge us for any food and gave us a £50 voucher to visit again,so thank you, however, the damage has been done and obviously we can only tell our friends that it was awful and not at all good. Strong advice to the management:Sack the chef on duty with immediate effect. When there is a complaint, send the chef out to apologise and don’t expect 2 young girls to sort out your problems. Wendover is an up market town and people expect good quality, especially at your high prices. We will be returning though to give them another chance.

Popped in on a Sunday lunchtime. We hadn't booked but were able to have a table in the bar area. Staff were very friendly and coffees served promptly. We ordered a roast beef dinner and a plant based nut roast. Roast potatoes were very disappointing, they'd been kept warm and didn't taste nice. The gravy was tasteless, just made with water,no meat juices. The nut roast was a verysmallportion, and the beef overcooked. The vegetables were the best thing on the plate, and they were plentiful. What shame, as the place is very welcoming and has a lovely atmosphere .

Firstly I thought the decor/ambiance was fine. The food I ordered was just lentils and a few carrots. Certainly not worth the expensive price charged for it. The roast potatoes I ordered had clearly been cooked ahead and then reheated so not at all nice. My partner seemed to enjoy his roast meal but all in all a much too high a price (more than £100 )for a very disappointing very badly cooked meal.

Twenty years after ceasing to be residents of Wedover we returned for one night's stay to attend the funeral of an old friend. The Red Lion seemed not to have changed during these years: a warm and cheerful welcome, a comfortable and quiet if slightly shabby room (needs a lick of paint) and an excellent English breakfast (as ever). All in all, extremely good value on all counts, as one would expect from a Fuller's house.

Found myself in here for a quick one while waiting for my fish and chips order at the excellent McCoys over the road. And remembered a review I forgot to do in December 2017. More about that in a minute. As to the present, this is a pub I have dipped in and out of for several years, living nearby in The Lee. It's an old coaching in, well run, friendly staff and with good beer and food. It is also coincidentally the first time I met the local legend "Willy the Fish". So I would highly recommend you check this place out.December 2017? The place was largely taken over by family and friends for my wedding on 9 December up the road in Hampden House. This was a weekend when large parts of the South East were buried in snow and many guests were stranded in Buckinghamshire (first world problem and all that) including my 90 year old mother. Anyway nothing was too much trouble and extra accommodation was sourced at the hotel. All guests were well looked after so if you are looking for a nice place to stay before Wendover is ruined by HS2, look no further than the Red Lion.

Been coming to the red lion for many years. They started doing bar snacks some time back and they were a great addition to the menu, and they changed each season. However, this seasons are fairly pathetic. £5.50 each and what you get is quite frankly pathetic. This wasn’t the case in the past. You used to be able to order a few and it would be enough for a couple of people. But having ordered the chicken skewers and tempura prawns, I ended up with 3 sad looking chicken skewers and 2 prawns. Costing £11 all in all!! Really poor. Pictures of what I got attached.

We had a very good lunch here last week. Good friendly atmosphere. RedLion club sandwich delicious. Chips arrived in a small wire basket. All three of us had a very enjoyable time with good food. Our lunch arrived quickly even though the restaurant was busy . Professional ,friendly waiter and reasonably priced.

We ate here on Sunday evening and had the choice of several roast dinners. These were served quickly with lots of fresh vegetables. The desserts were lovely too.

Good rooms, excellent food, friendly welcome and sizeable en suites. This hotel has heritage charm and a large car park in a central location.

Lovely waitress, Food disappointing, my husband not impressed with his fish and chips, and my cheese soufflé covered in rocket - fairly poor.

Stayed on Sunday night a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed by the welcome and service as well as price. Hope the range of beers is extended when we return in early July for my birthday weekend. Breakfast service exceptional. Menu a little ordinary.

First stayed here 20 years ago and had amazing Aylesbury duck for evening meal. Stayed few times since and had good food. The menu now is ' different'. Hubby had burger and I had fish and chips and they were ok. Not 100% convinced that new menu works. However, breakfast was extremely good and filling and set us up for the day. Will we be staying here again? Watch this space!!!

Visited with my partner for something extra special to eat, as we heard that the new menu here has that amazing twist in food, flavour & presentation, which had blown my mind completely! I would sincerely recommend those who have sophisticated palettes to come a try the food here! Well done guys! Keep it up!

I did stay last year at the Red Lion and I enjoyed it very much then, loved lasagna and lamb shank, but I loved the new menu even more. We had tapas to start- great sharers, then I had souffle, my colleagues had Lamb and pork chop. All of us were extremely pleased. The service was excellent, as always!

Ordered the fish & chips, couldn't eat it due to fish being slimey and uncooked. Complained to waitress, complaint was not acknowledged, no compensation, left pub dissatisfied and £12 lighter.

It's a bit pricey, the service can sometimes be skittish, but the chef here (2016-2017) produces excellent food. There is a carpark, bit of a tight squeeze to get your car down there but plenty of spaces once you are in.

I booked a table here ages ago for mothers day lunch and was looking forward to it but it was APPALLING!!! To start with we had to ask a waitress for our first drinks, then they took 20 minutes to arrive and then still forgot one so I had to find another waitress and ask yet again! No one seemed to know what they were doing, waitresses all scatty, not one per table and had to keep asking for sauces etc. No one asked if we had everything, did we have any allergies, did we want another drink etc and the restaurant was by no means full ( i am not surprised)The food was poor, only the meat on our roasts was nice and tender, the potatoes hardly roasted, the new potatoes hard in the middle, the veg soggy and over cooked. On the whole it was bland. We were so hungry by the time it arrived its amazing what you will eat! The plates were cleared one here, then ten minutes later another one, god knows why they just couldnt clear the table in one hit and offer dessert. Finally someone wondered over to ask if we wanted dessert. Will not go back and it was not of the standard expected. Mac Donald's next time! Sort out your waiting staff red lion!

Came in back entrance so saw no signs about needing to register parking, staff also said nothing . Later sent a letter informing me I had a £100 fine for parking in their car park. Phoned pub, who said to appeal and would pay ‘admin fee’ only. Appealed it, sent a very formal letter informing me id still need to pay £20 else a debt recovery agent would get involved and given for the appeal I had to give my address not particularly friendly warning. However now given this situation thought I better leave an honest review, to help others wondering whether to visit. The pub is not dog friendly - mine had to stay in car, first pub experienced that in years! Food nothing to write home about, extortionately priced for what you get. Somewhere I’ll remember not to return to.
