We had a day out walking on the Monsall trail and had booked dinner at the Red Lion.I thought as it was a Monday evening it would be quiet but I was wrong there were lots of people sitting inside and outside the pub and lovely welcoming atmosphere. The food was excellent, good quality and very reasonably priced.Myself and my husband had the steak and ale pie which was excellent and our sons had the gammon steak and 1 had the rump steak from specials board and excellent size quality steak.A really lovely village pub.

Visited this pub on a Tuesday night. Would not recommend anyone else does this. The menu, if you look online, is not extensive but is OK. However on visiting this evening we were told that all three pies on the menu were unavailable, as was the beef daube. I had booked a table in advance and was not told this then, and they didn't tell us this on entering the pub either. Instead they waited until we were seated with drinks to inform us. The meals we did have were at best adequate, but we regret visiting and eating there and will not be returning. The place was fairly busy too, with other tables being informed of the fact that the delivery had arrived that day and they were 'busy cooking' but that some of it wasn't ready. Not good enough, I'm afraid, when you're spending the best part of £100. There were no other specials available either. Disappointed, to say the least. Otherwise it's a nice pub in an attractive village, with friendly people and a friendly dog. Let down entirely by the food and lack of choice I'm afraid. Please note that dogs are welcome but not children under 6. This didn't affect us but I find it rather odd and offputting. They did remember to tell me this when booking...

Try the Derbyshire beef Daube, it was absolutely delicious. Best dish I’ve had in any restaurant for a very long time. All other choices on offer looked tempting too. With drinks and desserts it was very reasonable. Would definitely recommend the Red Lion, and will for sure return when in the area again.

My son and I went here for lunch, our first Mothers Day together for many years because of his commitments. We both ordered steak and ale pie with vegetables and chips. Probably the best pie I have ever had and the vegetables and chips were cooked to perfection. We then retired to the bar for brandy and coffee. Absolute perfection! The pub is so cosy and the lady and gentleman who served us were lovely without being intrusive. Thank you so much Red Lion for helping to make my Mother's Day special.

We first went and had lunch (ploughman’s) which was excellent. We therefore booked an evening meal for a couple of days later. This was by far the best pub food we tried in the area after visiting three other pubs. The evening meal did not disappoint we had the ribs (special of the day) and steak and ale pie, again both were delicious. As a bonus it is also dog friendly.

Had an amazing time at the Red Lion during our visit in Tideswell. The atmosphere was magnificent, the food was incredible and the staff were just unbelievably kind! Definitely one of the best pubs we've been in the UK, totally worth visiting at least once if you're in Derbyshire. The locals there were great to chat too!

Stopped here for coffee when walking and decided to come for an evening meal as a great menu. By far the best meal of our half term walking holiday, we are difficult customers as we have one vegan, one veggie and a coeliac. The atmosphere and service were fab, we had a great table near the fire and felt very relaxed. The menu was a decent size and varied. I had the chefs scotch egg for a starter then the chicken and mushroom pie, finishing with a bread and butter pudding. All fantastic.

Highly recommend this beautiful, cosy and traditional pub and restaurant. Visited last June whilst in Derbyshire at the Chatsworth Flower Show and enjoyed the meal and pub so much we have booked in advance for June this year. The food was really good and good value, service excellent and Jeanne the landlady extremely friendly. Cannot wait for our return visit.

We needed a Pub near to our B&B that we didn't need to drive to. We were not disappointed. Nicky and Naomi looked after us regally and we could see why this small traditional inn was so popular. We so enjoyed our 1st meal there that we ate there each night of our stay. We could not fault the menu nor the service. I have been a visitor in pubs where one is met with a less than friendly stare. Not so here. We enjoyed conversation with the locals and immediately sensed the ambience of this stunning little village Inn. Thoroughly recommended, situated at one end of the village just off of the main road, with a really nice pint of local ale.

Booked and reserved a table near the fire for Saturday evening which was confirmed by a member of staff over the phone. We arrived at our time of reservation and went to our table which was being reset to be told we had been moved to a table in the back room??? which we dont like as we have dined in there a couple of times,as it's dark and drafty. We questioned as to why we had been moved to be told that they had had a late party which was maybe so, but the table we had booked was being reset at the time of our reservation and our arrival,so it was being reset for somebody? so with that we left disgusted and phoned another local pub which we use often and accommodated as usual with great hospitality and food,so we we will not be returning to the Red Lion again after an experience like that. We did actually get a call frrom the landlady but it was very contridictry to the facts.

I like looking at reviews of places I've visited over many years as it always gives me a chuckle. The Red Lion is an old traditional pub, great for locals and walkers as it has a good range of beers and excellent food with the steak pie to die for. Children's pub it isn't and you should not expect this, a proper fire place that will be smokey, this is part of its charm so don't moan when you have to sit next to the fire; if you want a sterile, no charm, plastic pub fine but this one is not for you. 20 years of traveling to and walking in the Peaks sorts out the mediocre from the good and this is a good traditional pub, probably one of the best for food, don't expect frills but you definitely get a hearty meal with a good pint at a reasonable price which is why I always have to book a week in advance to get seats, I have seen many people turned away from this pub because they did not book. To conclude one of the best along with the Barrel at Bretton.

After recommendation by a friend we decided to try The Red Lion for an early evening meal in November. Our first impression was of a traditional English Pub, with several small rooms all full of locals/farmers and hikers giving a busy thronging atmosphere. The fires were lit on a cold windy evening and the atmosphere picked up a little of the fires to give a warm but smoky presence. After making ourselves known at the bar and ordering a round of drinks we were given menus after which we found suitable seats and table. The food comprising of mainly traditional English fair was good, wholesome and plentiful and the service prompt and very friendly. A very pleasant evening.

This is an excellent pub to call into if you are on one of the many hikes in the area that pass through or near Litton. The steak and ale pie was packed with meat and surrounded by a crusty pastry, and a choice of chips or mash was offered. Peak Ales and Abbeydale Brewery (Sheffield) beers were available on the day we called in, and the beer was very good. It was busy even on a Monday lunchtime in November, and has friendly staff who welcome hikers.

Visited this lovely village pub in the heart of the Peak District for an early evening meal having been warned how busy it gets...and were lucky to get in which speaks volume for the place. The exterior and interior are both very well presented with bags of character. The staff are very friendly....a good selection of real ales at the bar...and a menu with something to suit all. My wife's beer battered brie starter was to die for...not usually something I would eat , but I tried it..and it was gorgeous. Her lamb main course was beautifully cooked, along with the accompaniments. Prices are right for food which is superior to normal pub grub..and the Red Lion certainly is...so why do I give it only 4 stars and "almost perfect'? Well even though I don't eat burgers at home I judge a place by how they present and charge for, a simple burger. Surprisingly, given the standard of the other food, the burger (though of good quality taste wise) was way over cooked...totally dry...and why did I not mention it at the time? Well if a member of staff had asked me if I was enjoying my meal I would..but I had instead to mention it whilst paying at the end! The four ladies on the opposite corner were asked if everything was ok with their meal...but they were obviously local..as they knew and were familiar with the adorable "Humphrey"...the Black Lab pup....To conclude..please pay more attention to your visiting customers...

Nice enough pub but ood such as scampi and fish and chips forget it, chewy scampi and watery fish with no flavour in leathery batter. The fried brie in batter was decent. There are so many good places in the area that The Red Lion need to step up their game on food.

We came here via a recommendation from a friend of ours and we were not disappointed at all. It's a small pub with a big heart and lovely food. The initial greet was lovely we were taken to our table showed the specials and left to ponder the menu. Just went up to Litton for Sunday Lunch. The pheasant was overcooked, dry and alost inedible and veg was also overcooked and looked most unappealing. I did mention this to the waittress and barmaid, but they weren't at all interested. This pub does have cosy rooms, with real fires, but I would not recommend the food. My companion had the steak and kidney pie which was average at best - we paid £24 for 2 lunches, so for the quality we received, I am very disappointed. There are other better places nearby, so pass on the food at the Red Lion!

We stopped at the Red Lion on our way back from a walk around the Stanton Moor, where we visited the Nine Ladies stone circle and several other Neolithic sites. We weren’t expecting much; the little town had only two restaurants (at least as far as we saw), and the Golden Lion had a parking space right in front, which is why we chose it over the other. The service was very good, though, and the food was surprisingly delicious.

I visited these tearooms with my daughters on Friday 24th May. I have been to other tea shops in Bakewell, but Toscas is by far the best. We had afternoon tea for three of us, we sat outside in the court yard. The afternoon tea arrived and there was lots of lovely cake and sandwiches, beautifully presented, and our host friendly and gave us a warm welcome. We really enjoyed our afternoon tea, very civilised, we will defiantly be visiting again. In fact we will have a day out to bakewell just to visit Toscas .

I was really hoping for the wholesome, home cooked food that the price tag promised. The bean casserole tasted like a tin of baked beans with a whole load of dried sage stirred in. The salad could have been bought in a bag at Asda. I won't be going back.
