Red Lion in South Kesteven

We came for a beautiful Mother’s Day meal with all the family, very accommodating as last minute we had to change the booking from 8-12 people. They went above and beyond for our special day, with an added touch of Prosecco and chocolates!! Beautiful restaurant for bigger parties too, as they have a special separate dining area to accommodate different celebrations and events.

We took my mother in law and her partner here for Mothering Sunday, the food was lovely (and plenty of it!). Love the fact that you can have a choice of meats on your roast dinner - great for picky eaters like me! It’s good to also have a choice of other food apart from just roast dinners on a Sunday. The service was outstanding despite the fact they were really busy, the food was served quickly and was really good quality. Lovely, friendly atmosphere - extra bonus that its dog friendly too :-)

We booked here for a mother's day meal as we had a good experience the previous year. We came away very disappointed this time. We had very few vegetables with the main meal we ended up with two carrots, a half a parsnip, small portion of cauliflower cheese and small portion of broccoli , the plates were swimming in gravy, the meat didnt taste like it had been roasted, the lamb was chewy and pink, the yorkshire puds were flat and reheated as were the roast potatoes. When I mentioned the lack of vegetables I was told that I should of asked for more, this felt a bit like an Oliver twist saying. This was after the meal no body came over to check whether things were ok. We looked over to another table same size party and they had twice as much as what we did which seemed unfair. We have never been in a restaurant where we have to ask for more. This meal wasn't cheap at nearly £170. we won't be returning as we was ripped off.

Called in for lunch. Plenty on offer. I had a pint of Moretti, £5.30, my Queen had a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, £9. My wife had the fish finger sandwich, £7.95 and I had the BBQ and cheese burger, absolutely delicious. My one slight complaint, it was a small portion of chips and nothing else with the burger. Followed with Spotted Dick and custard, £7.95, a little pricey for what it was. Lovely staff, great atmosphere, highly recommended.

Managed to get a table at short notice for dinner. Friendly welcoming staff who constantly check everything is OK. Large varied menu with a specials board. I had the prawns to start, a mixture of cold prawns and battered prawns on a salad with a delicious dressing. My husband had lasagne and they were happy to swap salad for chips. Big portions so no room for dessert.

Visited here for pre-Christmas Sun lunch with family. First visit for all of us and were very impressed. Table was ready on arrival opposite a real fire. Staff attentive and friendly. Excellent choice of food and came to table quickly. All meats were tasty and had plenty of gravy on plate. Separate portions of vegetables were served and extra carrots were delivered swiftly. Not all of us had desserts, but those who did were very happy. Overall a pleasant visit to a quaint pub with excellent food. We would all recommend this place and plan to visit again soon.

We visited on 3rd December and was warmly welcomed and had a lovely meal. All nice food and staff friendly and nice to talk to. Nice and cosy pub, clean and if only we lived closer we be in more often!

We visited The Red Lion today and we had the most superb Sunday lunch. Every course presented lovely, food beautiful together with excellent customer service. All staff so attentive and friendly.. Really lovely afternoon, great atmosphere and definitely a pub we will continue going back to again and again! Top Sunday lunch!

We had time with friends at Belton house and decided we wanted a sunday lunch close by. It was short notice but the Red lion fitted us in . The sunday menu is very good we all had roasts which was excellent and good portions , only downside is they had run out of lamb so thats one for next time. Didnt go for the 3 course but we managed excellent desserts. The service by the staff could not have been better very attentive and obliging could not do enough for us. We will be returning

Well, new to the village so we though we had better suss out the local pub. It’s not difficult to get it right, great food, helpful friendly staff and quick service .. these guys have all of that… very impressed! The Ribs are excellent, huge portion and lots of sauce! The Cassoulet was beautiful, so much meat! The Blade of beef was equally divine, cooked beautifully, seasoned perfectly and the pecan pie was superb!!! Could fault a thing! Will definitely be returning to our fab new local!!

We have been visiting the Red Lion for about a year, and regularly attend their quiz night on Monday evenings. Becky and Simon are simply brilliant hosts and are super friendly, which makes the place and absolute pleasure to visit. Everything we have tried on the menu has been lovely and the food on quiz nights is also delicious and great value for money.

We have enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch today, provided by professional pleasant staff. The food was of the highest quality and the atmosphere in the pub was very enjoyable.

Spent the weekend in Caythorpe attending my niece’s wedding. The Red Lion catered for the whole event from the wedding breakfast to the evening spread, finishing with the breakfast the morning after. The food was by far the best I’ve experienced at any wedding. It was hot and served on time which considering the amount of guests attending was some achievement. All in all a fantastic experience and I look forwards to visiting the red lion on our future visits to Caythorpe. Highly recommend if your in the area!

Just had really enjoyable meal at the Red Lion Caythorpe. I had Lamb Dopiaza as good if not better than any Indian I have had before, my wife had Fish & Chips which looked and tasted fantastic - well done to all at the Red Lion we will definitely come again 👍

Actually visited a while back and forgot to post but remember it well. A group of 6 of us ate here. There was a great choice of menu, some classics, some contemporary dishes. All large portions so great value for money. The ribs were fabulous. My seafood platter was very nice indeed. The service was excellent and the landlord jovial and very helpful indeed in catering for a very elderly relative in our party. Would definitely come here again

Excellent venue, consistently providing quality food and friendly service. Hosts are very accommodating and flexible whatever your requirements. After finding the Red Lion a couple of years ago, I and friends have been regular customers.

Had not been to the Red Lion since moving to France in 2009, having returned it is now our local eatery - and we are lucky. Service from Becky and the staff is always second to none and we have never been served food other than the highest quality. I do not wish to add up how much I have spent there, but it is always good value. Regular menu changes and special events keep drawing us back.

Well where do I start. .Had not been to the Red Lion for a while so we decided to revisit. Taken to our table and presented with a new menu which frankly took me by surprise (very pleasantly though).Ordered drinks and promptly delivered by very attentive staff. Beers were of usual high standard. After ordering food(only main course as just got back from heavy food laden ski trip that afternoon) the dishes that were presented were some of best food that we had eaten for a long time. Could not fault any aspect of the presentation and eating experience. It was fantastic tbh.We will definitely be going back very soon to work through the rest of the menu..You can tell a lot of effort and investment has been put into this pub with very well trained staff who were exceptional in there levels of service. The Kitchen excelled in delivering some fantastic food without burning a hole in your pocket and should be applauded.Well done to you all.

This is probably the best Sunday lunch we’ve ever had in a restaurant- and we’ve had a few!!! Super atmosphere and great service and you can order a mix of meats to save choosing! Cauliflower cheese is great and even comes with roast parsnips and beetroot as well as roasties! Will definitely be visiting again!

We went on Boxing Day for my Daughters 30th birthday, food was lovely, staff couldn’t do enough for us, very friendly place

I haven't been to the Red Lion for many a long year but am pleased to say the standards and quality of the food is every bit as good now as it used to be.For my "winter" menu starter I had their "Creamy mushroom and spiced chorizo" and loved every single mouthful, it was gorgeous. My wife had their "Home cured citrus salmon" and she was every bit as impressed as I was with my starter.For mains I had their "Slow cooked belly pork" which came with a few additional belly swelling additions, yet again it was gorgeous. My wife had their "Rumpole steak & ale pudding", she loved every single mouthful and when she still had lots left on her plate, her belly cried out "enough, I have had enough", so we had lots left over for the doggy bag for a four legged friends at home!!If there had been a roaring log fire like it used to have in years gone by, my overall rating would have been excellent.

Went with some friends for lunch today, brilliant. The menu is limited compared to some establsihments, but should have something for everyone. Bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, £24.50, Moretti £4.80, Coke Zero (bottle) £5.00. No starters, straight into mains. All the mains we had were £14, Whitby Scampi, Vegan Burger, and beer battered Haddock. All the mains were great, although have to say I did not pick up the beer flavour in the batter, but the portion was huge. All mains were devoured gleefully. These were followed by sticky toffee pudding, cheesecake and eton mess, again all lovely - £6.95 each. And one Latte £2.90. Highly recommended.

We booked a Sunday lunch at this venue with some good close friends. This is the first time in 18 months we have met up. As parent of a disabled child the team went above and beyond to ensure we had the most relaxed experience. The food was outstanding and compliments to the chef for producing some quality food. This was our first visit to this establishment and it will not be our last. Already planning our return.

What a brilliant meal! We were staying locally after coming down from Edinburgh for a wedding. My partner and I were looking for somewhere for a Sunday roast and called to check availability, the lady on the phone was very accommodating and friendly and we booked a table at short notice. On arrival, we were greeted by the landlady who gave us a choice of two tables in the bar and we opted for a lovely table by the window. We were made to feel very welcome and were offered drinks straight away and given menus. I opted for the orange and duck salad and my partner had the salmon fishcake, both were beautifully cooked and presented. My partner can be hard to impress and a 9/10 was the mark given! Our mains arrived shortly after, two excellent beef Sunday roast dinners, they were delicious and a great size! To finish we had sticky toffee pudding and peach and almond crumble, again delicious! This is the best meal we have had in years, the cosy bar, attentive and friendly staff and bang on food made this a cracking visit. Despite the fact we live in Edinburgh, we will definitely be back, we’ll just have to find a reason! Thank you Red Lion for the experience! All the best!

Becky the landlady of the pub allocated a request for a table of 4 adults for a evening meal at very short notice. The same group of friends had had a previous wonderful experience in this lovely pub and it didn’t disappoint.The Red Lion in Caythorpe is a gem of a pub. The staff are friendly, attentive and professional. The reasonably priced menu offers a good range of meals to choose from.The portions are good, the food is scrumptious, excellent quality and served hot within a time.There are a good range of alcoholic drinks including craft ales and non alcoholic drinks including gin to choose from. There is parking at the rear of the pub.There are many lovely places to dine in Lincolnshire which serves good quality food at reasonable prices with excellent customer service. The Red Lion is definitely one of them. As on a previous occasion we couldn’t fault our visit. We look forward to returning in the near future.Thank you to all the staff.

Having visited the red lion on a couple of occasions, I can honestly say what a fantastic pub, the team are absolutely fantastic and that matches the food. Party had fish and chips with one member having whole tail scampi with home cooked chips and mixture of peas all round (mushy and garden). Everybody loved it. Desserts went down a treat although sadly the crumble had just sold out, just shows you need to be aware of how good the food is, because it will not be around for long.Thank you to all the team - we will be visiting again soon.

Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime.Took our 2 dogs along as the bar area is dog friendly. Ordered a couple of drinks and food which was delivered very quickly. We had ribs and scampi which was presented perfectly and tasted excellent. Had lunch with a friend at the Red Lion on Saturday 14th August 2021. Simon, the new owner, acquired the pub in 2019 and has completely refurbished the place with funky and fabulous decor whilst retaining a country pub vibe. The menu is varied with vegetarian and vegan options as well as more traditional options. Portions are very generous. Lovely dessert menu. There is an excellent selection of real ales and gins. We were made very welcome and it was great to meet Simon and hear how he has survived lockdown by running a popular takeaway service. Highly recommended.

Visited after a week at PGL nearby and had an amazing time. Beautiful venue in a lovely village but the welcome and food absolutely made the evening! Great choice of food for adults and half portions for kids all of which was beautifully presented and tasted amazing (chicken skewers were the envy of the table!) I work in restaurants/hospitality and as such am a bit fussy and (hopefully) know what I’m talking about! This was without a doubt one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Hats off to the team there who were all super helpful and especially Becky who was the perfect host! Amazing food, great staff, all round great experience! If I could give them 6 stars I would! We popped in for a drink on a very damp dismal day. The reception was friendly and the pub itself is delightful. Beautifully clean and welcoming. We didn't eat there but I suspect we will next time as we will definitely be back.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch at the Red Lion with my parents and kids. Great menu and a wonderful Sunday roast dish I've never seen before "Sunday Lunch Roast Burger" , two crispy Yorkshire puddings, tender roast beef, horseradish cream cheese and watercress. Amazing. Deserts were great as well, highly recommend the Key Lime Pie, just like the one I have in Florida when we visit. The service was really good and a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon

On holiday in the area and The Red Lion was recommended to us. We went for a drink in the garden and were so impressed with the lovely welcome we got from the staff we booked a Sunday lunch for the following day.We ate in the garden, of course, but everything had been done to ensure the best possible experience. Tables were spotlessly clean and beautifully set with placemats and proper napkins and the food was absolutely delicious. Traditional Sunday lunch with dessert-all fresh and piping hot. Fantastic food fantastic place fantastic staff, this little pub is so cosy friendly with one of the nicest landlords you could find, genuinely a lovely person that can’t do enough to accommodate you, the food is fabulous all fresh local produce cooked to perfection and won’t rob the bank very fairly priced, and what I love most of all is the fact they do vegan vegetarian organic wine that tastes delicious without the after effects of sulphates.. great atmosphere by far the best pub In this area

A delightful, well heeled gastropub pub, in a charming, country village location. Food is a good step up from the usual pub grub, with well presented, sophisticated dishes. You can’t beat a husband & wife team (chef & front of house) for genuine, solid quality & service.

Can highly recommend. We've eaten twice here recently and really enjoyed both visits. The food is really tasty - particularly loved the Steak & Ale Pudding. All the staff were really friendly and very welcoming. Nice environment made our visits feel very safe.

For a while now I’ve been saying to the husband that I’ve wanted to try the red lion and we finally made it in a Thursday evening. We had a lovely meal in a friendly and professional pub. This was our first meal inside a premises since Covid but we felt very comfortable, it was all table service and the tables were well apart so we didn’t feel uncomfortable at all. Our meals were delicious, in fact this was the most I’ve enjoyed a meal out for a very long time, everything was just so tasty. We will most definitely be returning and won’t belong before we do! We dined here on Tuesday evening as first time customers. We left so happy and raving about the food! Lovely choices on the menu and some different things that you don’t get in other pub restaurants in the local area. The waitresses were so lovely and they always checked everything was ok for us. I had the ribs and my partner had the red snapper fillet. The sauce with the red snapper was amazing! We couldn’t help but have starters and mains as well. We’ll definitely be back soon!

Absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Delicious starter, the salmon pate and trout was 'melt in your mouth' amazing! And a huge portion of desert. The service was excellent. I couldn't recommend it more!

A lovely country gastro pub. Well worth finding in a lovely village. Very well set up with the Covid rules, hand sanitizes and well spaced tables so we felt very comfortable. The place has the old school pub charm of stone fire places but with modern decor to make it contemporary. The food is what it is all really about with a menu crossing classic pub grub from fish and chips through to a specials menu with different cuisines on. I had the "signature" dish which is the Rumpole Steak and Ale Pudding and my partner had pulled pork with slaw and potato Salad. Both were generous portions and both were very tasty. A special mention to the chips that accompanied the Pudding, superb slightly sweet fries. Three real Ales on tap to wash things down and for the driver it does Seedlip non- alcoholic gin . Lots of desserts on offer but we went for the lovely Ice Cream. We will come again.

We ordered a Sunday lunch ,roast beef and all the trimmings ,it was delivered at exactly the time we requested and was piping hot ,everything was cooked to perfection ,this was the first meal we had had from the Red lion and when this lock down is over we will certainly be going to sample more of their delicious food .

Had a delicious High tea takeaway on Monday. Have to say it was absolutely delicious. Everything was lovely and fresh and wonderfully presented. Such a treat in these turbulent times. Would highly recommend and definitely have it again. Thank you so much.

Before the lock down we enjoyed Sunday Lunches here and ocasionally a dinner in the evening but during the Lock down they have provided a fantastic home delivery service . They are owed a great big thank you for supporting Caythorpe and surrounding Villages during this time

Enjoyed an amazing hearty top quality meal last night accompanied by a great selection of beer on tap, only to be outdone by the service and friendliness of everyone that worked there. A great atmosphere, making all for a very enjoyable evening spent here with the family.

Just celebrated my 60th Birthday with the help of The Red Lion, Caythorpe, the food, hospitality and service were excellent. It is a super venue and also a great place for food and drink. I received numerous comments from our guests on how welcoming and attentive Simon, Kim, Becky and the rest of the staff are. How lucky we are to have such a lovely pub so close by!

We have been going to the Red Lion for many years and the new owners have carried on the high quality food we have always come to expect. The atmosphere has also been maintained.

It was a rare child free weekend and we dared venture out in to the bleak Lincolnshire night. When we happend upon this oasis of hospitality that was the Red Lion in Caythorp. After a nice beer for me and a plant based beverage for the lady were chosen from that ample selection, we were shown to our table adjacent to a welcoming log fire. Both the starters were outstanding the mushroom and chorizo bruschetta leaving my wife woth justifiable food envy. The main courses were again very good and more that ample for the all but the most gluttonous american, bother the stake suit pudding and boeuf bourguignon were excellent and highly recommended. Unfortunately we did not have enough room for dessert or evan a "waffer thin mint".Throughout the service was outstanding in all areas and we would highly recommend the Red Lion to anyone looking for either a county pub with a welcoming atmosphere or as somewhere to go for a lovely meal.

We came across the Red Lion on our way home from a week in Norfolk and it was most definately worth the short detour from the A17. The pub is very dog friendly, is warm and welcoming and with an open fire. The menu is extremely well priced considering the standard of the food. I had the pheasant from the specials board and my partner the steak, both were to die for. We just wish the Red Lion was our own local.

Beautiful home cooked food, quick and friendly service and well priced. Part of the Tastecard scheme so a 3 course meal for 2 cost us 16 quid each- bargain! Well recommended.

We booked for Christmas Day lunch and were not disappointed! The staff were very welcoming and the service was very attentive without being overbearing. Each course, including the amuse bouche and coffee and mince pies was such great quality, beautifully presented and delicious. It was my husband’s birthday and, despite being extremely busy, the staff brought his dessert with a candle in it and sang him a Happy Birthday. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, did not feel at all rushed and would definitely recommend the Red Lion for a very enjoyable and relaxing drink or meal. It’s clear the owners really enjoy the pub and want to ensure their guests do too. Thank you Becky and Simon!

Visited for a catch up with friends. Great food for a good price with a good beer selection. The Staff were very welcoming and dog friendly. Would recommend and will visit here again.
