Went for meal, gammon was so salty and under cooked . Other food ok . Never got asked if wanted more drink. We did the math on splitting the bill, dont think it was checked ! Seemed annoyed that we had booked for 6 of us but only 4 made it . Place was empty so was not like we took up extra covers . Been before and was made to feel welcome . This time felt like we were an annoyance . Won’t be back .

Wow, wow, wow!! What can we say, the New Inn have just done the buffet and bar for our granddaughter's 21st birthday party in the village. The buffet provided was out of this world, the selection of food on offer, the quality and quantity provided were outstanding. Everyone at the party commented on the food and couldn't believe the spread. Brian and Leo provided a fabulous bar service with many guests enjoying the rare opportunity to try Thistly Cross cider. A massive thank you to Kate for everything she has done. X

Booked for two after reading reviews on The New Inn and especially the “Fish and Chips” which we were really looking forward to. We arrived and were attentively looked after by the waitresses and placed our order. After calling earlier to enquire that they still had Fish and Chips available, the waitress returned and informed us that they had one standard and one small available. The food arrived and immediately could tell that something wasn’t right as very other time you eat, the food smells tempting and delicious, this was not the case. My partners meal, especially the Fish, smelt off, the mushy peas were tasteless and basically ate the chips from her meal and even those were not great. My meal was not as bad but agreed that the mushy peas were tasteless and didn’t smell right and the Fish although did not smell off, did not appear fresh as advertised. The Chef was in and out of the Kitchen with no real purpose, almost checking on what we had eaten and to be honest, wanted to leave as soon as possible as felt so uncomfortable. I went to pay for the meal and informed the lady that my partner had only eaten chips and was told that I should have mentioned it earlier, that was a fair enough comment but as the Pub was not exactly busy, did not want to make a fuss!. The Chef would have known that the Fish wasn’t off and maybe was checking if she’d eaten it?? Unfortunately we will not be returning and will now be going elsewhere for food.

Visit to the New Inn, Folkingham today by two of us was well worth it. It was a fight over who had the best starter - my huge pile of Whitebait with pot of Tartare sauce and salad, or her Mushrooms on bread soaked in a Garlic and Cream sauce. I can report that she didn't actually lick the plate, but, thanks to her finger, her plate was completely bone-dry of cream and garlic when the waitress came for it. On to mains and I got plenty of Haddock, chips and I chose mushy peas. Herself has a preference for fish and chose the large fish pie with garden peas. Pleased to say the pub has a good selection of real ales. We neither had any room for sweets unfortunately. One of the things we found to the New Inn's favour, was that portions were good sized and prices less than many other places.

This was our first visit, We booked a table for 4 people for Sunday lunch. 1 - service was great very pleasant from start to finish the girls that took our orders was so polite and explained that she was training new waitresses and was it ok with us, of course it was. 2 - we ordered our food and was asked which size we wanted as there was two sizes we all went for the larger one, we learnt our lesson there was to much for me to finish, but the food was amazing and piping hot. 3 - desserts what a selection and wow it was worth it to have even though by the time we left I was well and truly stuffed. 4- Prices were pretty reasonable for what we got I would say well worth it. 5 - as soon as you walked in you saw straight away how nice everything was. Will we go back a definite YES. Best meal we have had in a very long while.

We are staying down the road at Henry’s Retreat and booked for an early evening meal on Friday. We walked into the bar which was full of locals enjoying an end of week pint or two. It was lovely to see a proper pub with the support of the community, what a fantastic environment, friendly and welcoming. We were led to our table in the restaurant, an area away from the bar, we were welcomed by the lovely waitress who was very attentive throughout. The food was awesome including garlic mushrooms in a cream sauce, followed by the biggest portion of liver and bacon for myself and my husband faced the biggest haddock and chips. The meals were hot, tasty and great value for money. The landlord was friendly and we even got a smile from the chef. A lovely place to visit, hopefully we’ll be back, unfortunately they couldn’t accommodate us for Sunday lunch as they are fully booked….understandably as this little pub is a gem.

I have visited the New Inn on several occasions when visiting Folkingham. A gentle and very pleasant pub with a beautiful garden. The bar area is cosy, friendly and serves excellent beers, wines and spirits. The restaurant serves excellent food. With generous helpings. It really provided amazing take away/home delivery meals during lockdown. A true Community Inn. Our last visit was 17 September. We held a Memorial Service in the Parish Church for a close relative. We live near the South Coast so we asked Brian and Kate to provide tea and refreshments after the service. Before the day they could not have been more helpful and kind. On the day the offering was simply superb. It added immensely to a very special day. Homemade, beautifully presented food. If you are near or passing through Folkingham call in . The waitress took our food order and informed us it would be ready in a few minutes. The food, wow, both meat options (pork and beef) were served with an assortment of veg and a homemade Yorkshire pudding. We have visited sevral times in the past year for Sunday lunch. It was always very good and has 2 sizes of meal so smaller appetites catered for. The meat is always tender. However , in more recent visits we have noticed one significant change in the meals. The roast potatoes are clearly not freshly made. I believe they are reheated from earlier and now have a leathery rather than crispy feel. For a Sunday roast this is a key part of the meal and whatever time saving this gives for the chef will eventually bite their trade! Giving it a miss for a while

If you’re not in a hurry and want to spend the evening in a friendly local pub, then this is a great choice. The menu isn’t extensive but has sufficient choice, especially in different kinds of home made pies. The food is all home cooked and excellent quality, with really good chips! The landlord is very friendly too. The pub didn’t appear to be too busy, maybe a dozen customers in all, so for us the only downside was that we had to wait over an hour for our meal to arrive after ordering. We weren’t in a hurry, so this didn’t matter, except it meant we needed more drinks! Something to be aware of though, especially if you have children, as the child at the next table fell asleep before her meal arrived and had to take it home on a plate!

The food is mediocre at best, they can't even get a basic drinks order right! The vegetables are unseasoned, the watery leaks are served in a powdery glup The roast potatoes are like bullets! And have black bits in!The beef was tender and edible If you mention that you have an aversion to any food e.g. I don't want mash, the cook then berates you in front of other diners! I was served a cherry pie which had a raw top, at no time did anyone ask is if the food was ok. My disabled father wanted to attempt to carry a plate with the raw food, to which my sister said no I'll speak to the waitress. My sister said to the waitress please can you take the pie back in and show the chef as the top is not cooked! The waitress then came over to the table whereby I showed her the uncooked pastry, I said the ice cream was nice but I would not eat the pie. The waitress then left with the uncooked cherry pie, moments later an angry chef came over to our table in front of other diners stating loudly that she would not accept rudeness. I said I hadn't been rude. However she clearly was extremely rude feeling that she has a right to speak to patrons however she feels, apparently she had the ump as her husband was out playing golf!! Which I do not consider and adequate reason for the abuse I received. This exchange occurred in full view of other diners the cook said where have you been, I said I've not moved from my seat. I reiterated that I hadn't said anything, the cook glared at me disbelieving then asked the waitress was it her?!?! (Pointing at me) to which the waitress said no it was the blonde one! The aggressive chef then turned around and started arguing with my mother who had already paid for the food. At no point did she apologise for the way she had spoken to me! The waitress had obviously exaggerated our legitimate complaint and I was mistreated by the staff..I would not recommend this establishment to othersnor would I ever go there again!! To sum up terrible service, poor food don't waste your money.

We were a group of friends on a village walk and finished with a Fish and Chip supper in The New Inn. The fish came in a couple of sizes, with chips and peas, bread and butter, tartare sauce and ketchup included. The staff were friendly and helpful.Orders arrived fresh and without problems. Some of us had room for desserts which were also ample sizes with a varied choice.Thursdays was fish and chip night, I will be back to check out Sunday lunch and other specials.

Dined here on a warm weekday evening mid June whilst stopping with friends in the village. The Bar was busy but the restaurant quiet, cool, light and comfortable.A good selection on the menu and the meal came quickly, hot and well presented. (Would recommend the pies) The service was friendly and attentive and the prices reasonable. Will visit again.

Visited this pub on a recent camping trip. They serve a good pint. The food is lovely, nothing fancy but really, really tasty home cooked food..great selection of pies and puddings! Such a friendly place where you are made to feel most welcome which, in a village pub where lots of locals drink, is not always the case. Hope to go back some time.

Went there as a party of ten on a Saturday evening for drinks and food. Great local village pub and restaurant. I could tell it was well used by locals and and I can see why. Big portion of fish and chips and my son could hardly finish the burger. I was stuffed at the end.The bar and restaurant are separate. Not sure if they do bar meals but they had a few small tables scattered about. Everything was reasonably priced. No problem getting served at the bar and it was FA cup final afternoon. They have Sports on the TV and it's not a rowdy place. I wa staying at a campsite (Low Farm touring and camping) which is only a five minute walk away. The New Inn is well worth a Vaisya if you are in the area or fancy a night off the cooking. It has a large beer garden out back and it was very tidy. Ideal for a long summer afternoon drinking, weather permitting. The staff were real good. Waitress was on top of our order straight away and acted for all our needs. Well worth a visit if in the area.

Just what you need in a village pub. Brian a Kate are the perfect host and you are made to feel welcome as you walk through the door. We are regular diners specially on Thursdays for Fish and Chips. They have plenty of choice on the menu serving home cooked food by friendly and efficient staff. Our advice is book early if you want Sunday Lunch.

Tucked away down a side street, easy to miss, but well worth seeking out. Obviously appreciative locals want to keep it to themselves! We went for a mid-week lunch and ate in the restaurant at the back. Immaculate table linen and a bright, airy room, with friendly and efficient staff. We were made very welcome and found plenty of choice on the menu, all home-cooked, with local suppliers listed. The dishes were well cooked, hot, nicely presented and delicious. We will definitely go again, a real find.

Went here for Sunday lunch with the family as my parents had just moved to the area. This will definitely not be our last visit, the food was fantastic, the beef was tender and flavoursome, roast potatoes done just right, in fact everything was cooked to perfection. If you're paying drop in, you won't regret it.

We had a family Christmas gathering here. We were made to feel welcome from the minute we walked into the pub. The extension where we ate our lunch was modern and comfortable. We had a 3 course meal which was lovely. The food is of an excellent quality and the portions were huge. We were waited on by a team of attentive young people who were professional and a friendly and also a credit to their generation. I would highly recommend this inn it's just great for just about everything.

A couple of weeks ago I was travelling back from Norfolk to my home in Cheshire. I wanted to break my journey and take in a televised football match. I eventually ended up in this fantastic pub in an idyllic village.Although my reason for visiting did not include having a lunch, I would have been tempted to have a bar snack, but unfortunately with it being Sunday, and having a fully booked dining area for Sunday lunches they were unable to offer any snacks - quite understandably. However, my visit was one I will remember for a very long time, due to the hospitality shown by "mine host", very friendly locals, who provided an excellent (certainly not raucous) atmosphere to watch the match in, and not least for the excellent cask beer on offer at £3.50 a pint.I left feeling a tinge of regret that I had to continue my journey, but with a resolve that the next time I am anywhere near I will most certainly pay a visit.... and most certainly sample the food, which was sorely tempting, both in aroma and appearance as it passed me by! Thank you to all the staff and customers for providing such a happy memory - despite the fact that my team conspired to lose the football match!! HASTA PRONTO!!

From the outside this looks a very small pub, but go into the cosy bar and this leads through to a very light and airy dining area. Out the back is also a lovely beer garden that overlooks the church (sadly the domain of smokers on one of the evenings when we visited...nothing can really be done about this unfortunately). The owner looked after the bar, took the orders and served whilst he wife ran the kitchen, cooking the food. The cooking was excellent, nothing fancy, but very tasty, good portions and well presented. We enjoyed every mouthful and the service was top notch. Went back again and had another lovely meal. We enjoyed the home made pies and deserts...the Bakewell Tart and Cheesecake deserve a special mention! The owners obviously work very hard to make this pub what it is and they deserve to be praised for doing such a great job.

We were finally able to match our travelling times with rural dining times and it was well worth the wait! It is amazing that this village still supports a local pub let alone a great restaurant. What a choice of beautifully prepared home cooking. We were offered the choice of a restaurant meal of sitting in the bar. This is a proper traditional pub, not just a place to have a meal. We enjoyed some fine beer in this local pub three nights running and the atmosphere was great. They deserve to do well and I suspect they work very very hard at keeping it all going. Enjoy a local pint and help keep these rarities going. Thank you so much for reminding me what a traditional pub used to feel like!

Three of us stopped by for a quiet drink at The New Inn after a splendid morning's walk from Folkingham: what a delightful surprise to be greeted by mine friendly landlord, who is actually knowledgeable about his excellent draught ales! BUT even better! There is a splendid white-table-cloth restaurant in a new extension to the rear of the bar and, you guessed, once we saw the excellent menu we wanted to try it for ourselves. And aren't we glad that we did! Real, real home cooked food, generous portions, politely and caringly served. And a tempting range of simply splendid real home-cooked puddings. We'll be back, for sure!

We were camping on the nearby site so this was an ideal stroll in an evening for a drink. nice choice of ales but had Abbott ale so we had that and extremely well kept. Barman was very friendly and we had a good chat about beer and other things in the village. the local also made conversation and made us very welcome. Some people were dining and joined our room later saying the food was good. We wanted to eat on Sunday here but sadly and adownside, it doesn't serve food on Sunday evenings. would definitely visit again if back in this area. Nice beer garden as well.

We have had two wonderful meals here this week. On Wednesday (18th May) we spent a very enjoyable 2 hours eating.Starting with whitebait, what a large portion, then following with fish pie, the best I have ever had, even better than my own. How I then had the cheek to order a sweet I will never know but the cherry pie was superb. On Thursday(19th May) we went back and behaved ourselves having only fish and chips, but that was a very large portion. Beautifully cooked the lager batter being crisp and light and the chips just so crispy.Congratulations to the cook. Just wished I lived nearer, would be able to visit often.
