Called in after a full on day at Thorpe Park hoping to find something nice to eat. We all went for burgers as some of the menu choices had run out. We weren’t disappointed. Service very warm and friendly. The waitress suggested things to do in that area. Slightly pricey but overall a positive experience.

Great location on the waters edge of the River Thames. As we arrived after 6 pm, there is no outside bar service, so one has to cross a busy main road to order/collect drinks. A small inconvenience. Staff were very friendly and helpful. A most enjoyable summer's evening. Highly recommended.

Our third and last meal here. The Red Lion is a nice enough pub but its style over substance. It’s a nice place to have a riverside drink (mind crossing the busy road though…) on a sunny day but that’s about it. Staff are nice and generally attentive, pub looks nice inside and that’s pretty much where the “good” ends. We dropped in on a weekend to find that most of the menu was off. The food is on the expensive side for a pub and we’ve had mixed experiences prior (a decent burger/a very poor roast), Decided ok we’ll just have a drink and a snack as we’re already here and don’t want to walk any further before eating. Pub was close to empty which was a bit unusual for a weekend but plenty of staff on. Ordered some fries and drinks and sat down. 45 minutes later we’d finished our drinks and no fries, asked and were told they were on their way. Ordered another two drinks. Half an hour passes. Still no fries. We ask again. We notice another table has sent back their food. Fries turn up, half of them over cooked and we went and got our own condiments after asking for salt and vinegar and no one coming back. It’s fried potatoes. It’s not difficult. £5 is expensive for some half edible fries. This pub has the potential to be great but they seem to do the bare minimum and charge through the nose while they’re at it. There are better and cheaper options within walking distance and we’ll be sticking with them in future.

Honestly the pictures of food on here bare no resemblance to what I had to eat there, the menu is very limited the website gives you no clue as to what the dishes are its a terrible website for the ranking that this pub currently has in Shepperton. The food when it came was edible but thats it, I can have edible at McDonalds. £95 for 3 of us no alcoholic drink in sight but still £95. I was shocked. Dont bother honestly there are much better places to spend your money the food was poor for the price. Service was good I will give them that but I wont be going back, if I'm tempted I will pop over to Macdonalds as at least its cheaper and I dont have any expectations

Awful place. Overpriced is a vast understatement. We paid over 14 gbp for nachos and they turned up with 8 on a plate. We also travelled in to meet friends on a SAT night and they decided at 9 to shut at 10 as they were not busy. Zero consideration for the customers (approx 20) Vastly over staffed, prices are beyond acceptable, food a rip off and not even a good standard.

Terrible food. Been using you for home delivery for the last year and slowly gone down in standards to be honest. Decided to give it a go in the restaurant with a friend I had promoted the food to.. The food arrived lukewarm (obviously sat under the hot lights for a while) Broccoli not cooked, raw. Cauliflower cheese microwaved to a cheese inferno. Dried up parsnips and a very dried up,brittle yorkshire pudding. May I suggest your kitchen closes at 3pm on a sunday ,they would,t churn out rubbish then and lose interest..

I visited the Red Lion this week with my wife to make use of a gift voucher from my daughters. We had tried a few weeks earlier but on that occasion, having booked a table, we were told to sit at a certain table and a waitress would come and serve us. 20 minutes later, no waitress, no menu, no drinks, we gave up and went home. This week the service was very good. Polite, helpful and friendly but the food was hugely disappointing. The menu was limited and my wife's filo pie was poor. 98% spinach, 1% tomato skin, 1% cheese crumb, encased in oily filo. Served with a so-called Greek salad consisting of one small lettuce leaf with salad morsels, hardly making up a garnish never mind a Greek salad. When it arrived the pie looked so lonely my wife asked for some chips to try to convert it into a meal. Meanwhile my spicy Moroccan lamb was OK but served on soggy sweet potato chips. No garnish or presentation, leaving it looking like a fairly unattractive brown pile. (The chips should have been served crispy in a separate container). Puddings were tasty but very small. The accompanying clotted cream had been served using the smallest teaspoon in the cutlery drawer. The chocolate fondant was served with one raspberry cut into 3 pieces and spread around the plate as decoration. Overall this was substandard pub food served at premium prices, represented by a bill of £78. This included one small glass of wine. Overall, a nice pub, nice people, food needs to be improved to justify the prices.

Odd layout - you had to push your way through the pub bar to get to the restaurant, which was looking a bit worse for wear and rather empty. Starter of Greek salad was OK but mediocre, main was spiced lamb which was very good although dumped on top of sweet potato fries (which as a result were somewhat soggy) in a hideous leaf-shaped serving bowl. The first time that I've been there but I won't be back

Great location by the River Thames. Excellent service despite being very busy as to be expected on a sunny Sunday. Generally food was excellent, although my burger was somewhat on the dry side - marred by the new legal requirement, I suspect, of having to cook burgers medium or well done. My preference is medium-rare which is usually less dry. Otherwise the meals were excellent. Highly recommended.

I am a local to this pub, it is over priced and the food portions are very small!. The location is nice, but beside a very busy road with cars that don’t give way when you are trying to cross the road - accident waiting to happen. The main issue is that we ordered a side Greek salad & when the bill arrived we were charged an extra £2.00 for the Feta cheese !!, Sorry but isn’t a Greek Salad made with feta cheese???, if not it wouldn’t be called a Greek salad 🤦‍♀️. We left feeling annoyed and ripped off.

We have been to The Red Lion before and had wonderful meals but today was disaster. It was my mums 82nd birthday and she wanted to visit The Grumpy Mole gastropub in Cheam but I persuaded her that The Red Lion would be ideal and she changed her mind, hence the visit. There were 8 adult diners, three chose burgers and 5 picked roast dinners. The beef was appalling and fatty, the roast potatoes were lukewarm and the Yorkshire puddings were all burnt along with lukewarm veggies. I was really disappointed as this restaurant was my choice so I felt very guilty. My wife complained and the duty manager did write off the roast dinners and they gave us a few pints but it never makes up for the lost sense of occasion and dissatisfaction when you leave hungry. The remaining bill for the three ok burgers and 4 pints will came to £85.00 but I do hope the kitchen get their act together and turn out high quality food as I have had here before.

Really not impressed with this place. Been previously but experience deteriorates every time. The service is so slow and just because you get apologised to over and over does not justify it. The food is OK The portion sizes are a joke that is not Tapas. The portion sizes are so small they cannot be shared i think it's a bit of an insult when that arrive at your table. To conclude this pub is overpriced and will not be visited by me again and I will be putting people off visiting it until the menu changes to a pub menu cause that is what it is, a pub in Shepperton.

I have been here around half a dozen times over the past 2 years. When I first came I would say this was a 4.5 out of 5 place, top quality food, generous portions and great service. The prices are what you would expect to pay for the level of quality. The pub itself is very nice. Inside in the winter is very cosy and they have a very nice garden by the river for the summer. So in summary a really good find. What I have noticed over the past couple of visits is a real drop off in portion size. We often have the Tapas and the garlic prawns have always been a favourite, but last time we got 3 average sized prawns, (the kind you get from a taste the difference supermarket pack rather than the decent sized unshelled type), which at nine and a half quid felt particularly poor value. The chip portions also seem to have got much smaller. On the plus side I agree with other peoples comments about the mussels and the burgers - they are top notch. I should also mention the service which is great. On one occasion they had just implemented a new ordering system and service was very slow due to teething problems. The manager came over, personally apologised and without prompting took the whole food order off our bill. We will still come here but will probably stick to the non Tapas until we see what other tables portion sizes are like. I hope they improve so that I can up my score as this is still one of my favourite local places to eat.

I do not mind paying money for good food but couldn’t help feeling ripped off - £6.40 for 2 tiny croquettes?? £6.30 for 5 tiny pieces of scampi. £5.40 for 1 sausage cut into 3. Nah. Wouldn’t recommend, no value there at all.

Just returned from The Red Lion. The food was lovely, service very good. There was a bit of a customer service issue, but the manager took the initiative and handled it superbly. More places could learn from this example. Will definitely return.

Unfortunately the owners of this pub seem to think it is on par with the likes of "The Pig" which it really isn't. Food is good but not worth amount being charged . There is even a 65p charge for bringing your drink to the table each time! Don't know of anywhere else doing this ..just another pandemic related excuse to rip people off.

Very good brunch and lunch with service is second to none. A must for anyone in the neighbourhood. The maitre d' was exceptional, relocating us three time (all because of the weather) with such grace and care. Regret not taking his name but a big thank you!

We went for Sunday lunch having had a good meal here some time ago. Sadly this visit significantly disappointed for a number of reasons.Roast dinner was tasty but the portion size was ridiculously small for the price - veggies included 1 carrot baton (yes - not even a whole carrot!) , 1 parsnip baton (again -WTAF!), cabbage and suede. 3 average potatoes, an average Yorkshire pudding and a couple of slices of actually very tasty beef. But hardly £22 worth. The kids menu of Mac and cheese was at £7.70 is expensive for a kids meal at best, but they did fancy it up by dressing it with peas. On a kids meal? Who thought that would make it more appealing to a child?! At least it should have mentioned that strange choice of addition on the menu. However by far the most disappointing aspect was the disinterested staff. Covid masks worn on their chins rather than covering their faces (come on people - if you are ignoring guidelines here it does make the customer wonder what other health guidelines you don’t care about) , bringing us the salt with one hand whilst their other hand was in their trouser pocket they really couldn’t have acted less interested. Overall it wasn’t a disaster but it did feel like we were overcharged for a very average experience.

I took my family to this pub for lunch yesterday. Four adults and two children.I have to say we were very disappointed. I ordered the bouillabaisse and was looking forward to it as we were all very hungry. After waiting 45 minutes for our food I was shocked when it arrived. There was a piece of overcooked cod no bigger than two fish fingers accompanied by four mussels and two small prawns with about 6 spoonfuls of sauce. At £25 a go I find this a complete rip off. To add to the disappointment my youngest grandson had chicken strips and fries. The chicken strips were totally burnt and he could not eat them. The two roast dinners were ok but the two burgers that we ordered were loaded with to much salt. We had a total of 3 pints, two orange juice’s and two kids drinks. The total bill was £152. With a 12% service charge added. Why we were charged that when the service was awful I don’t know. I told the bar manager I didn’t want to pay it and showed him the burnt chicken strips and to be fair he knocked that off the bill. I would of complained more about the other dishes but like I said we were all very hungry and we ate them so I felt we couldn’t really say anything. I have to say that I used to drink in the red lion often but after this experience of getting completely rippped off I will never return.

Have been to the Red Lion twice since we emerged from lockdown and prior to the pandemic it had been one of our favourite date night restaurants. The food is always excellent; they really know how to cook meat and fish perfectly. The buffalo chicken wings are delightful, the homemade bread and butter divine and in general we’ve never had a meal that was anything less than delicious. Have never tasted a bad dish there. What lets it down since they’ve reopened is the service. On the first occasion we were sat on the (freezing) terrace by the water and we got the sense that they kept forgetting we were there; we had to keep getting up to find someone to ask for a menu, another drink, etc. We then had Sunday lunch with our children and in laws and whilst everyone was friendly, the adults’ meals took a shockingly long time (at least the kids were fed, but they only had ‘fancy’ juice at 3.50 a pop so we couldn’t even get them another drink to entertain them). There was no apology or acknowledgement for the wait on either occasion; we got the sense that the servers weren’t very experienced or engaged. I wouldn’t mind - times are tough for the hospitality industry - but as the food is priced highly (in line with its quality, to be fair), I expect a little more on the service side. Nonetheless, we will keep coming back and I’m sure these niggles will be ironed out as everyone gets back on their feet.

Pretty disappointing. The food was OK but it's all very overpriced. Kids menu is 30% more expensive than other pubs we've been to and no choice of kids drinks, we asked for kids' apple juices and the ones we were brought were £3.50 each! There are no kids options where you get a main course/dessert and drink included for one sensible price. Also very irritating to be charged 12% service charge in a pub (appreciate it's optional but felt I had to pay it) and to be asked on the screen would I like to add a tip! Think we'll stick to pubs in Walton and Weybridge in the future.

Menu is styled as tapas size dishes which if we had ordered 5 or 6 would have been fine but given we only ordered 2 one each the fact my friend’s came 15 minutes after mine was not really acceptable! The waitress did say it was her fault but didn’t help with our enjoyment of the meal! The food when it did come was nicely presented and very tasty Tables well spaced and everyone wearing masks

First time to this pub, Went here for dinner on a Saturday evening, had a lot of customers which was a good sign.Really liked the selection of beer on tap and partner was pleased with the Gin choices.I had the cheeseburger, partner had mussels both of us really enjoyed the food. Only downside is that one meal and two drinks each came in at just shy of £70. I am not sure how it compares to before but post lockdown it does seem like a lot of pubs are increasing and that does feel steep for what we had.

I have been to The Red Lion many times and gave it five stars in a 2016 review but called in with a friend recently and was disappointed. It's not their fault that you can't order at the bar but then again when it's not too busy you don't want to wait ten minutes for your pint. We had three tiny chicken wings for £7.20 (£6.40 plus service charge) and a scotch egg £7.53 (inc service) that was a shadow of what they used to be. I tried a 250ml glass of house red (pinot) at £8.15 (inc service) and it was awful. I wish I had gone for the merlot but that was too overpriced. A couple sitting next to us were also commenting on how the prices had gone up since they had last been there and actually struck up a conversation about it.A compulsory service charge is always irritating but especially in pubs.

This is by far the best pub and dining experience in Shepperton. The food was excellent and far above expectations and whilst on the or pricy side it was worth it with generous portions too. The heaters in the garden were well placed and plentiful and despite a chilly windy night I took my coat off! As always the beer choice is the best in the area and the wine was excellent too. If you want a fun atmosphere and have a party this is the go to place but you will have to go slightly further to get the same quality food for a more romantic night out!

It’s not often I write reviews but felt compelled to do so after having such a bad experience. We had booked a table for my birthday celebration on Bank Holiday Monday – a long way in advance – for 6 people with a high chair. On arrival we were told that our table had ‘been given away by the boss’. Very bizarre and beyond frustrating. Waited over 10 minutes for them to find another table. We were then placed on the (freezing) terrace, no high chair. No drinks offered. After another 15 minutes we managed to get the attention of a waitress who seemed rather surprised when we asked for a menu and please could we order some drinks? There was clearly not enough staff and those that were there were either inexperienced or just didn’t care. We ordered a bottle of water for the table which came with one glass? It was just one thing after another. Regarding the food, I would expect slightly more generous portion sizes given the menu is quite pricey (see picture). Having said this the burger was very enjoyable.Overall the service was very, very poor. No real apology. In addition, we saw other people being moved into the garden because of the wind and would have expected, given that our table had been given away, that perhaps we may have been given priority but clearly not. In the end I made a request and we were moved. I have been going to the Red Lion for many years but definitely won’t be returning.

Consistently outstanding pub meals! We are frequent visitors at the Red Lion beautifully set on the river with great outdoor space. I almost always opt for mussels or the burger both of which are sublime! Roast dinners always lovely too. Neck oil on tap a bonus

This review is sad to say . I always say support local independent businesses but in this case I would of rather of gone to the Premier inn or travel lodge . So where do I start . Room 19 booked for 4 nights due to working local . Perfect location in a prime spot . Shower took for ever and a day to heat up. Bed and pillows harder than a brick . Bedding so thin for december. Heating didn't work . Windows really thin so Room was so cold . Walls and floor so thin you could hear everything and everyone . Friday night they had a party till 00.30 The music was so loud and speakers were outside. Fantastic if you haven't got a 5am alarm like I did . I did call reception and they was not much help or very apologetic. I followed this up with an email also have not received a reply. Unfortunately this place is over priced and needs much TLC . Would not recommend or stay here again . Nice touch they come in every day to make the bed and change bath towels . Please improve your Rooms.
