Red Lion in Stratford-on-Avon

Popped into the pub, not been in for a good 15 years as moved within Warwickshire. Took an odd turning from stocking up the meat and veg at nearby farm. Glad I did. Landed by default at the pub. Lovely hosts, warm and welcoming. Will definitely return.

We came across this pub looking for a country pub with character and it did not disappoint one bit. We are a family of 4 with young children and were welcomed in so warmly that we felt like we were visiting family. The menu was one of the best we have seen, proper home cooked food like your mum would make, the food was delicious and there was empty plates by all even our fussy youngest boy. A real little gem of a pub that we will be visiting weekly. A must do visit.

Arrived here disappoint at the open garden scheme being cancelled. 😒 However The Red Lion was a great consolation. The sun was out on balmy Sunday afternoon as we took in the view across the countryside that stretched out to the horizon. Sheltered from the rays by a perfectly adjusted parasol we happily tucked into the steak and ale pie with gusto. Vegan pie was available. Mien hosts were professional and friendly. We live a hours drive away but I would happily return another Sunday just to enjoy the scenery and company of the hosts. Also to work out why there is a chequered flag flying in the grounds. 😗 There is an interesting walk just down the road ( Burton Dassett Country Park ) where we are going to stretch our legs after and hopefully walk of lunch. ☺️

Five star recommendation for this village pub. The food surpassed all expectations especially the fish and superb chips. Friendly couple and toilets spotless

Stopped for lunch today with grandson. The landlady was very attentive not only to us but also our 7 year old grandson. Great food cooked fresh at a great price. Lovely service so we will definitely be back!

Stopped here off the cuff after a walk at Burton Dassett Country Park. We had a choice of well-spaced outside benches, some under a gazebo to protect against the elements. We ordered at an open window. The restaurant had a great selection of beers on draught, as well as both a full menu and light bites. We opted for cheesy chips and fish finger sandwiches as a light lunch. The food came out in a good amount of time. It was hot and well-presented. The salad was fresh with our sandwiches and the chips were some of the best we have had. Freshly made, skins on, and like the ones your Mum would make. Worth going, just for those! Not only this, but the owner came out to fuss our dog and gave her both treats and water. This was really valued and appreciated. It made us feel really welcome. The pub did really well in both complying with all guidance, but not making it feel impersonal or like were ill-attended. We will definitely return return we are up this way again.

Such a great pub. Beautiful location, staff who can’t do enough for you and really tasty food. My son and his girlfriend turned 18 during lock down so today was their first trip to a pub to celebrate and have their first pint in a pub. The staff really made sure they felt special and were looked after. Can’t wait to visit there again.

Two couples staying in Harbury in our caravans (at Fields Farm - excellent) and stopped at the Red Lion for a drink after visiting the country park - actually sat outside with the dogs to enjoy the sunshine and the views. The owner came out with biscuits for the dogs. Nice touch. Decided to book for Sunday lunch and it was great!! The owner’s partner looked after us very well, all the staff lovely and the food was really very good!! If only we were staying for longer...... def will be revisiting when next in the area.

Stopped off for lunch while walking the Centenary (Warwickshire Way) on a Friday. Very friendly hosts with very safe covid19 secure procedures in place. Nice beer and one of the greatest ploughman's ever seen. Would recommend.

Stopped here for a quick lunch today following signage from the main road. Only the second time we've eaten out recently but were encouraged straight away by a lovely front lawn with distanted benches and clear signage. Great stop with quality food, friendly staff and locals. Stop by!

The Red Lion is now in it's second year under the ownership of Karen and Mark. It is a great country pub in a lovely location & offers a warm welcome and traditional pub food. Do check opening days / times before visiting as they can vary a little but it is well worth a visit, especially on a warm summer day or an evening when you can catch the sun going down.

Though it had the potential for being a disappointing midweek visit, we were pleasantly surprised at how warm & welcoming it was here - with a good choice of food on offer. Good value for money & delicious too. The staff were very helpful and friendly, made us feel at ease and we look forward to visiting again.

Karen and Mark took over the Red Lion in June 2018 and they are very friendly and really welcoming. The food is great and the view from the garden at sunset on a summer evening is wonderful. The pub is child and dog friendly and the Burton Dassett county park is a five minute walk away. I would highly recommend.

Popped in for lunch yesterday (26/05/19) with hubby and sister, fantastic welcome, wonderful food, (chips are to die for) would definitely recommend and will be back soon.

These reviews are all very out of date. The pub has changed hands & is now a friendly welcoming village local in ideal position for cyclists & walkers as well. Fun nights of music & quizes, open from Wednesday evening thru to Sunday. Food available but probably best check as its early days for the new owners Karen & Mark.

Had a good time nice food, we popped in made us welcome and cooked a lovely steak, nice range of real ales. Music on a Saturday, staff very friendly.

Paramos para una comida como yo soy local y el servicio y la comida era increíble. Pedí la parrillada mixta y el bistec fue preparado exactamente como pedimos y la acompañamientos eran perfectos. El personal era amable y a pesar de estar ocupado, nada era demasiado pedir. Muy contentos y sin duda lo recomiendo!

Organicé una fecha en este pub y ojalá no lo hubiera hecho. La zona del bar estaba lleno con obviamente bebedores locales en el bar y congestionamiento de ser escandalosas y ruidosas.

Visitamos hoy. Pedimos dos lasaña y patatas fritas. Sentado cerca de la cocina y oí el microondas ding y luego cuando salio fue sin duda una comida de microondas. Mi marido y yo a la izquierda la mayoría de la comida. No me alojaría aquí de nuevo y se extiende la palabra, ya que son locales y no quieres otros a decepcionar como lo hicimos nosotros.

Meet up with an old friend at The Red Lion for a catch up over a pint and food but he did say don't expect to much as the quality isn't great. Wow how surprised were we, they offer plain simple pub grub steaks, scampi, baguettes etc, my friend had scampi and I went for a good hearty steak and they both looked fabulous on the plate and tasted delicious, when the waitress came and cleared are plates I asked if they had a new chef and the answer was yes. Keep up the good work chef your a credit to the red lion. We will be back very soon.

Fuimos por la tarde para tomar algo de comer después de ir a dar un paseo y después de esperar más de 40 minutos para la comida (el pub ciertamente no ocupados) las baguettes steak trajeron y nos decepcionó profundamente! El pan estaba cubierto de margarina que allí terminó siendo más que el plateado de bistec delgado tanto en baguettes. 6,95 libras carísima en algo que cada no pagan normalmente 3 libras para juzgar el tamaño de las porciones.

Decent traditional pub grub with a no nonsense menu ! I would recommend the food no problem. Just one thing let it down was the pub cat sat on the bar itself and then sprawled out over the bar stools !

Nice friendly welcome serving decent normal pub grub at a good price, very good if you like a steak and a good range of ales on offer would certainly visit again if in the area.

The second I walked through the door I was made to feel welcome and if I'd been in several times. The food was superb as was the ambiance. Will definitely be going back.

Very disappointed to find not only the pub empty bar one customer, we ordered our food only to then after about 20 minutes to discover two plates of food being brought out for the bar staff and presumed Manager, steak and chips and all the trimmings. Our food took another 15 minutes , just jacket potato and fillings which they could not get right when it arrived. We paid for the drinks and left without eating. Waste of time.

We visited here by chance on a Tuesday lunchtime, we were greeted by a lovely man who was running the bar and cooked our food.The menu is excellent especially if your a steak fan, the steak menu is really good, lots to choose from and cooked perfectly with plenty of food on the plate. If your not looking for steak expect normal pub grub on the menu.We had both a starter and main and loved both of it.The place itself has been decorated nicely inside and has everything you would want to see in a country pub.We were told that the pub hosts a number of different events on a regular basis and while we were there they had hosted a beer festival the weekend before, lots and lots of different ales to choose from.I thought the pricing was about right and what you should expect to pay at a country pub that serves good food.I would certainly recommend, give it a try.

I visited here with my daughter for dinner one night during half term, food was nice.There was quiet a bit to choose from off the menu.

My wife and I went for a walk in Burton Dassett Park and stumbled upon this lovely pub. We were warmly welcomed by a young man called Steven and we had a lovely chat and enjoyed our drinks and snacks. We were very impressed with the menu and the very reasonable prices. We will certainly return very soon to sample more of the menu, and to enjoy the hospitality and friendliness of the bar staff. Pleasant surroundings and perfect ambiance, what a gem!

Great food - the gammon was excellent! The 10 oz burger was massive and the steak was very well cooked.Great hosts - very welcoming.Great time had by all!

Fabulous beer. Decent meal. Great hosts and very friendly locals. There's an extensive steak and mixed grill menu.We live a couple of villages away but we'll definitely be back.

food service and very good food, you can park easy and the village is also lovely to walk around the pub is at the bottom of Burton Dassett Hills which if having a walk around you can easy reach the pub for a drink or light snack then carry on with your walk

The Red Lion was so cosy and welcoming on a cold March Saturday afternoon. The food was excellent and the Staff so attentive. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and it was a pleasure to be there. Reasonably priced and in a nice setting with plenty of parking.

Stopped by for a pint recently and was warmly welcomed by the bar staff. Prices were decent and the place was busy full of eaters. A wide range of choice on the menu and an interesting special was why. Only 1 other drinker on a Saturday night though.Definitely a place to go back to although bluetack to put up the decs isn't great. We were made to feel at home so that didn't matter.

Went for a meal on friday.The pub was very clean and tidy, we was seated to our table, and gave a few mins to look at the menu which there was plenty to choose from, then someone took our order and we didn't have to wait long.The food was amazing, nothing I could fault.All the staff was very polite and friendly.One on the nicest pubs iv been to for a long while.Fantastic for couples, families, and friends

Went for late Sunday afternoon up the Burton dassetts with dog. Stopped in for drink and stayed for dinner! Fab roaring fire and dog friendly. Staff v friendly and welcoming. Fish and chips were awesome!

I believe this restaurant has recently changed hands and unfortunately they can't upload their menus onto the website, but they very happily talked me through their menu when I rang to book a table for last Saturday evening.We walked in and were immediately impressed with the decor and ambiance. Our table was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful - and very knowledgeable about all the items on the menuThere were four of us and we all agreed there were lots of choices that we would all very happily have eaten.We all had starters and main courses and had absolutely no room for dessert. Well cooked, beautifully presented and very good value for moneyWe will definitely be back - thank you to all the staff

The Red Lion is a perfect village pub - great ales, great food, friendly staff, log fire, beer garden for great sunsets and friendly locals. We are regular visitors and the kids/dog are always made very welcome.

Staying in the Cotswolds for the weekend we came across this pub by chance and decided to try out the food not knowing the area. The staff were really welcoming and the food fantastic in fact my mother said it was the best fish and chips she ever had. High praise indeed as we live near the coast and often visit the local fish quay for fish and chips. My sister had handmade burger and I had ham and eggs. All the good was fantastic and presented brilliantly. We will definitely return if visiting the Cotswolds again and can't recommend enough.

Recently reopened under new Management and having had a premises makeover. It is now a very light airy restaurant with well spaced tables set in a modern décor but blended to give a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The service and food was of very good quality and the menu and prices varied. Very happy to recommend this restaurant which commands lovely views across the valley.

We were walking in the area, and hoping to find a country pub for our (Sunday) lunch, and came across the Red Lion! We had an excellent Sunday roast (one beef, one lamb) and a dessert, and thought the two-course meal was excellent value. It was promptly served and nicely presented, and the staff were attentive. The main courses included a very good selection of vegetables, all nicely cooked.

My husband, I and my three year old son popped in at lunchtime today, we waited 50 minutes for our food, during the wait, a lady approached the bar and complained about bugs in her salad. The waitress acknowledged that there were in fact bugs. When our meals arrived, I had ordered a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich and a portion of chips, the bacon was cold, not very much of it and been sat in the frying pan for a long time. My sons dinner which was fish stars and chips, was appalling, the fish stars were not fish, in fact we don't know what they were but it resembled grey slime. My husband asked the waitress what they were and she responded that she didn't know what was in them as they are ordered in, her response begged believe. She also proclaimed to customers that she didn't work at this pub as if this was an excuse for the appalling condition of the food. So home cooked food it certainly isn't, they warm up processed poor quality food. Serving poor quality food to children really proves that the establishment has low ethics and do not value families. We left the red lion and our food, and will not be returning. The reason I gave the red lion one star was for the decor.

This was our 2nd visit - excellent both times. Great value Sunday roasts plus proper puddings kept us going on a nice country walk. Good to see a busy local pub in the area - we will be back!

Popped in with friend for her birthday! It was really busy, we had not booked, which would have been a good idea. We found a raised table, and just had a drink and a starter. Excellently presented in a timely manner, staff very courteous, and so much of massive improvement inside! We were very impressed

Attended the grand re opening booked a table for food for 7 of us. Steak was prime sirloin, excellent quality beautifully cooked, perfect in fact, lovely salad and the chips were hot and perfectly cooked, tuna steak was really good too and the gammon was succulent and tasty. Staff were very friendly and the service was attentive and efficient. We really enjoyed our evening and will defiantly be back. Lovely atmosphere and fabulous views too! Try this pub you won't be disappointed !!

This pub has just re-opened after several months of closure. The place has been transformed and now feels warm and welcoming with lovely colours and carpeting.We visited on bank holiday monday for late lunch. The food was excellent (homemade S&K pie), well presented and plenty of it. The ladies serving food and drink were polite and pleasant. Three/four real ales available including a favourite of ours, Pedigree. This pub enjoys lovely viewsand has plenty of outdoor seating - a great summer pub.We will definately be returning. We visited the recently re-opened Red Lion in Northend, Warwickshire yesterday prior to attending a friend's wedding in the village. We ordered a chicken, bacon and Brie sandwich and a bowl of chips and they were absolutely delicious! The bread was fresh, the chicken wonderful, the salad garnish fresh and the chips hot and very tasty. Most of the customers at the time were wedding guests, including the groom, and the staff made us feel extremely welcome. The decor and ambience are great, and my only wish would be that this great Pub was on my doorstep! Well worth a visit.
