Red Lion in Sheffield

Always a friendly & relaxed atmosphere at lunchtime, in this lovely traditional pub. The food is excellent & reasonably priced.

We had come to visit family and all fancy and good old Fashioned Sunday Roast, and wow what can I say about this little gem of a pub. Sunday Roast just like your Mom use to make, Beef was so tender and pork was the same, homemade Yorkies and real Gravy, it was absolutely perfect. Also old school puddings were fabulous too. Big THANK YOU to Gary and all the staff for making us feel so welcome, will defiantly be our go to place when visiting family in Sheffield again.

Brilliant, vibrant classic, traditional Sheffield pub. Great selection of beers and very good staff. You cannot help yourself but to love this place!

Nice pub in center of sheffield. Much more relaxed atmosphere than some of the pubs close by so makes a nice change. Will definitely be visiting again

Traditional city centre pub. There aren't that many left! Varied rooms to choose from and a little covered terrace. Pay in cash if you can! Pool table also.

Lovely public house, to be fair I haven't been for a good few years and it hasn't changed a bit (which is a good thing). Traditional pub which you don't seem to see anymore. Went for lunch and food was lovely.

Saturday 29th June 2024 Today we came in this great Sheffield real ale pub 4 really good hand pumped ales on A old fashioned pub with good local following good staff and a really good out door drinking area. This pub is a good real ale pub near Sheffield train station Well done all involved

My lunch here was the best meal I’ve had in my trip to the UK this far. We opened with the garden patch medley, and shared the grilled sea bass and vegetable grill. All of it was delicious. It FAR exceeded the restaurant in the golf resort we just left. Service and ambiance were excellent too. Thanks Claire!

We went to this pub before the Def Leppard concert. A Female, who served us wasn't very friendly with no conversation with us. The Pub is in desperate need of revamp, awful smell throughout. Deco and Carpet are old fashioned. Mismatched tables and chairs. Ladies toilet horrible, again in need of revamp, toilet seat required replacing or fixing, Toilet paper holder on the back of the toilet door. We didn't eat here but noticed 4 Stars for Food Hygiene.

Stopped off here on our curry night. Pleasant pub not too busy. My mates made use of the pool table. Quick drink. Will definitely put this pub on our route plan through Sheffield for our next night out.

Called in for one drink, stayed for several, quiet when I went in at 1.15 very busy by 3pm on a Saturday. Very good staff quick service and always with a smile will definitely be back again

Been to more BT leaving doo s there , good selection of beers , lend to functions and not as busy as most pubs in the city centre as it’s at the other side of the duel carriage way

Good traditional street corner city centre pub close to Sheffield train station. Choice of three real ales. My blond companion Madge had a pint of Stancill Blond. The Barnsley bitter was also on sale along with Bradfield Farmer's Blond. Did not eat but looks like good value with Sunday roasts looking tempting. The pub has a side extension conservatory and a good beer terrace for about 20. Also a few seats in front on the pavement. Been to many Red Lions; the most common pub name in the UK. This is a good one.

Had Sunday lunch there with family. As always the service was prompt. Our table was ready straight away. The food was well presented and piping hot . No aunt bessy's here . The beef I had was very tender the vegetables well presented the waitress came with more gravey wich was appreciated. All in all a nice dining experience for all the family. We'll done the polite staff.

Fantastic burger meals and they do a great Beef Steak and unicorn ale pie They are large meals though. You get plenty for your money. Lots of nice real Ales to wash it all down with.

Called for Sunday lunch .staff very polite got our order straight in and seated . The food was well presented and piping hot . The beef was superb. Veg were cooked perfect . All in all very good . ..needed colmons mustard to do that beef justice . Got a loyalty card on strength!

You’ll find it a little picturesque pub in the back streets just off the main busy roads, Nevertheless it is still in the heart of the city. The cozy atmosphere is very welcoming with Lager and British beer and top quality food

6:30pm Friday evening and the place was packed.... The Barnsley Bitter wasn't the best so had to revert to non-hand pulled John Smiths which was a shame...

A very traditional pub, staff friendly.We had a decent Sunday roast and for eight pounds there was plenty on our plates.

Called in for lunch with my partner and our daughter. We ordered drinks the Barnsley bitter was excellent a pint of cider and a diet coke .we then ordered a burger with bacon and chips and salad and 2 beef chili's with rice and chips with tortillas the whole lot was less than £35 ,excellent value great service in a lovely pub.

5 of us called in last night for a drink, the pub was busy and we had a problem finding seats. There was a side room with a few tables in all with reserved signs on, we sat at one of these tables intending to move when the reservations arrived. One of the staff came in and asked if we had reserved a table, we said no, but we would move when the party arrived, we asked what time they were arriving and were told 7.00. We said we would be gone before then About 5mins later another member of staff came in and told us to move out of the room. We left about 7.00 and no one had turned up at that point for the reserved tables. We felt very unwelcome and will not be returning on principle, the pub obviously does not want our custom. Incidentally we are all aged 65 - 75 and hardly likely to cause any trouble ☹️

Went here with my girlfriend who is now my fiance beautiful place even proposed to her here. Three nights stay lovely room and breakfast is wonderful. Staff are great.

Great pub. Varied menu of tap and bottles. Visited as part of the Tramlines event in Sheffield, and there were some great bands on!

Extremely expensive for where it is. Food isn't priced bad. Go round the corner to the Globe for drinks. And the pub quiz gives a £10 tab to the winner - that gets you 2 pints. Compared to similar places in the city it's not really worth the trip

Called in for a drink..Sat at a table opposite the bar on stools, informed immediately that we would need to move at 9pm as the landlord had reserved the table due to usally sitting there..his table for when he comes down to the bar! Really? Given the the pub was not busy, should he have not thought about sitting elsewhere if someonehad been sat there? Didn't stay to find out...First visit, and last!!

Just had a delicious sunday lunch with my husband and I highy recomend it the food was cooked to perfection by Garry and was second to none. Iwill definately eat there again and recomend to my family and friends.

Visited the Red Lion for the first time with my family in order to get something to eat, my son ordered sausage and mash from the menu only to be told that mash was not available, only chips, order placed, I enquired if this was the case for mine having ordered lamb shank on a bed of mash, reply was 'yours should be OK' food arrived mine with chips!!!!! good practice is that you inform the paying customer as to what is available so they can make an informed decision not just give them what you want, needless to say it went back, it was pointless ordering something else at that point as my wife and son had been served and a table of approx. 10 had just placed orders, totally disappointed and certainly would never use this place again,

Went in here because we got lost and to get out of the non-stop drizzle to be honest. But glad we did: charming little pub tucked away down Charles Street, friendly bar staff and some smaller rooms if you want a private small group. Worth a detour! Will return next time in Sheffield.

What can I say? I walked past this boozer so Google asked me to give it a review. Brickwork is gorgeous. Nice signage. Decent street art. Would have been 5 stars but the kitchen extractor is a bit gross.

This a traditional pub. The staff were friendly, serving good beer. It was one of those pubs you could sit, relax and enjoy for a while.

My twin brother Stephen and I decided to drop into this pub as we were wandering around this part of town and what a great find. A really great looking pub ,the interior is fabulous, pubby decor and furnishings, an eye catching serving bar and there's plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a really good pub to chill out in. We were here on a Wednesday night ,pub was busy with a great atmosphere, we ordered a pale ale each, these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back and took in the great pub we were in. My pale ale was really good ,a crisp, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish, these are the type of pubs I love ,great staff,great ale and a superb pub ,it was just so good being in a pub of this calibre enjoying a quality brew. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here, only stayed for the one each before moving on and for a first time visit to The Red Lion Pub we were totally impressed. The Red Lion Pub is easy to locate along Charles Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Saturday, Open from 11.30am. Sunday, Open from Midday. A wonderful pub most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The place is much bigger inside than what you think from the street. Pleanty of hidden rooms and an outside courtyard. Was greeted with a kind bar lady and felt welcome from the get go. Would come back again, the range of drinks look great. Will try the food next time.

The Red Lion on Charle's street is a proper back street boozer with character and is a must go pub when visiting Sheffield. Housed in a traditional pub building that is very inviting when illuminated the Red Lion interior is again traditional with a fantastic bar and superb seating options and a fine range of cask ales and a really good food range. This was one of the last pubs we visited on a three day city break and while we where heading back towards the Wetherspoon's pub by our hotel we went in here for a few beers. Very busy when we visited the Red Lion but with ample seating and as it was really late in the evening and the room were we were there was no problem finding a seat.When here we had a couple of glasses of Sharp's brewery Atlantic Pale ale a superb ale that was perfectly served and priced. The Red Lion is a superb pub and was one of the best traditional pubs we visited on a three day city trip in Sheffield and is a very easy pub to find from Arundel Gate/Cs123 bus stop you walk down Charles street.(This is my first review of the Red Lion). The owner Gary is a great guy . Bit old school but good use of space and nice little back courtyard if you are a smoker too
