Always love going to the red lion. We booked a table last night in the bar as the restaurant was full. I asked for a nice table as our brother was coming down with his new wife after just getting married. Maria gave us a lovely table with a lovely view and the food and service was amazing thank you so much

As per food establishments in densely high populated tourist locations. The Red Lion doesn’t rely on regular customers therefore standards and core values are not maintained. Written complaints are ignored. Portions are halfed when when stocks are low. It all falls down to the luck of the draw on the day. I wish you the best of luck.

We visited here recently whilst in Newquay having been before and it was good. Don't get me wrong, the food was fine, no complaints. It came quickly but I found the staff to be a bit short. I had pre-booked with a voucher code from the website for a free bottle of wine. The staff didn't seem to know anything about this and we wouldn't have got it unless we asked for it, despite doing as it stated on their website. I also asked for a glass of lemonade which never came but we were still charged for. I was made to feel like I shouldn't have asked for what they advertised

I have been coming to this pub for about 20 years or more and it is certainly the best pub in Newquay. However, the last few visits in this last week were slightly disappointing. The food menu appears to be limited and the choice of real ales was also poor. In particular - no Sea Fury! Please tell me all will be well soon?

We have always loved the red lion and make it a must night out on our annual visit to Cornwall however this year was extremely disappointing. They had very little food left to offer from the menu, to the point I think they should have stopped serving food. Meals that had been ordered weren’t served we had to ask twice where it was to be told in the end that it had never been ordered. Meaning it was then served a long time after everyone else had finished. The food we did get was however very nice. Waitress (in her own clothes so to my mind maybe a manager ) was absolutely shocking, rude, unapologetic and lied about food time etc. The male manager was however much more pleasant, very apologetic but appeared out of his depth. We could clearly see that people were complaining all around us. Not sure it’ll be on our recommend or must go to list next year unless something drastically improves.

We phoned up to reserve a table we was told they wasn’t taking reservations but not to worry as they was confident there was tables free , we asked what time they served food til and we was told it was 9 o’clock, when we got there at 7.45 they had a table for us but then told us they stopped serving food when we spoke to staff about this they was very rude and blunt about it and just said kitchens closed were short staffed (didn’t care that they had told us they served food til 9 on the phone ) , so we had to go somewhere else for food but we asked to reserve the table for drinks , when we got back to the pub after we had to go and eat somewhere we was refused entry due to not having ID when we are 31 years old and had previously been let in before , very disappointed with The attitude of everyone involved in this pub would not recommend at all !!

Absolutely terrible experience, regular visitor of the red lion but this time was entirely disappointing. They had barely any food, to the point where they should have not been serving it, including no fish and chip, no steak, no nachos. When food eventually came one of our meals was missing, we were told by the lady that it would be here in 2 mins, 20 minutes went by we had still not recieved our food. We had to go up to the bar to ask about the food which is when we spoke to a manager who told us the food had never been put through. When food eventually came the pasta was chewy and bland. Disappointing experience this time.

Went here for the quiz which was a lot of fun, really good beer at a decent price. All the staff were very friendly. Came back a few days later and had the 2 for £20 meal, I wasn't expecting much but when the food came out it was incredible! The burger and mixed grill were delicious, I'd definitely come back here!

Traveling with the wife, we go in and choose a table. I clean it up as it's filthy, we order a drink at the counter and take it to the table. For the food (if we want to call it that) we order food and it arrives after almost an hour... the worst pub I've frequented on this holiday.

We had dinner here on a Wednesday evening in August. We were extremely impressed with the quality of the food. Two of us had the lamb shank, which was superb. The food took quite a time to arrive, which appeared to be due to the small size of the kitchen and limited kitchen staff. However, the food is so good it is worth the wait.

I love this pub!! Always has a great vibe, the food is exactly what you want from pub grub, fun loving staff and some great live music! What more could you possibly want?

The food wasn't great. Two meals had to be remade, and one was sent back again, even after it was recooked. There was a 45 - 60 minute wait for the food. The services was great, and it was a nice spacious pub.

Came to Red Lion for a Sunday dinner. Great location, Fantastic food (Roast Turkey, Mushroom Wellington and 2 kids meals, they were all cooked to perfection and delicious) Staff were polite and provided an excellent service. I would highly recommend the Red Lion for a decent meal and drinks for all the family. We will definitely be returning in the near future. Many Thanks!

We did go in, very busy stood at bar 10 mins never got served due to queues and lack of staff. Gave up and went elsewhere.

Had a meal Thursday evening the service was fine but the food was appalling our starters and drinks arrived fairly quick all but the starters were cremated could not differentiate between prawn and calamari then we had a wait of an hour or more only to receive 4 mains which were inedible will not return for sure my wife is diabetic and needed a meal terrible food

Booked a table for 4 at this establishment, firstly the lad servicing our table was polite and friendly however sadly that's our only positive. Our order was drinks order was taken and then our food order was taken we was advised that there was a 60 min wait for food. All drinks arrived in good time except my coffee which I waited approximately 30 min for. Our starters actually came out before my coffee. The starters which were prawns and calamari were over cooked and did not look appetizing fortunately I did not order a starter. Our group then waited approximately 60 min for our main meal, two of the meals were steaks and there were dried out alongside the chips and onion rings (which were inedible. The other two meals were both pies but different varieties. The chicken and pancetta pie with vegetables was inedible and could not be eaten the veg was so hard it could not be cut and the pie was overcooked and very unpleasant. The steak and venison pie was equally as bad however my friend was a diabetic and needed to eat so she managed a small amount. All four mains were unacceptable. I called our server over and he agreed. We raised all the issues with him and he was very good with phoning his manager to try and resolve the matter. Overall our experience was awful. We had high expectations, we left hungry and disappointed

Had Roast Beef dinner yesterday at The Red Lion.......It was the nicest Sunday Roast I've had in a long time.The beef was beautiful + all of it was very well presented. Also unlimited Roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings & Gravy........

Excellent food but the service was a bit disorganised. We were told that someone would come to the table to take the order, but then the restaurant server was telling people to order at the bar. We ordered at the bar and added chips to our order and we received onion rings to the table. The server brought us over our chips, but when we went back to the bar for more drinks, we were charged again for the chips even though we didn't eat the onion rings. The food was amazing and well worth the visit, the service could have done with a bit more organisation.

Good local beer and cider with a nice view along the coast. Great atmosphere with a local musician playing. Unfortunately the Sunday Roasts and other food we wanted to order were all sold out by the time we arrived in the evening - probably a testament to how popular this pub is.

Excellent Sunday roast, extra roast potatoes and Yorkshire puddings, great portion size and reasonable prices.

We had Sunday lunch here. Would highly recommend, beautiful views from the window tables and the nicest Yorkshire puddings I’ve tasted. The staff were friendly and service was excellent.

Have been coming to this pub for years but tonight was awful. Food disappointing. Over cooked and dry. 2 missing items one which didn’t turn up at all and one bought half way through the meal with no explanation. Manager who wouldn’t give name for privacy reasons? She was rude and only apologised after prompted. We wouldn’t waste our money eating here again. Something has changed in this pub as it’s not as good as it used to be.

Food was lovely, but my mom ended up injured after two skateboards that were propped up by the check in desk and left unattended fell on her foot. She ended up with terrible bruising and unable to walk for a few days. No apology from staff and when I asked for an ice pack, I was told there wasn't any!! How can you not have an ice pack in a place of business?!?! Ended up having to have some ice cubes wrapped in blue roll which was reluctantly given by a member of staff after asking several times. No real care for health and safety. Very disappointing.

Not sure how this place has such great reviews. Food is ok, presentation isnt great, service is awful. Atmosphere is more pub/drink related than food. Quite grubby and just didnt have the character i was hoping for. Definitely wont be returning.

Excellent food, we went for Sunday lunch and it was lovely. It does get very busy at Sunday lunchtime, so it's good to book a table, but you can call in on the chance of an available one.

A really nice, rustic bar in a great atmosphere. We had fish and chips and the mushroom prosciutto as a starter. Both were super tasty and definitely worth the price!

I have visited The Red Lion many times with friends and family. I particularly love the band nights!! The food is lovely and the staff are really friendly! Honestly couldn’t recommend the red enough and everything it has to offer.

Visited today with my partner and dog. Thai and Katie helped me pick some great food & it was amazing!!! Thanks to the chefs & staff for a great visit!!! Would recommend the steak and venison pie and a doggy bowl from their dog stand! We loved it. 😁

In my opinion the last local bar in Newquay. It is the only place where we fee at home and all the staff are amazing, Katie was lovely and tended to every one of our needs

A wonderful pub with good food and friendly service! We were there 3 times on our vacation! Be sure to reserve! I had steak pie, fish and chips and the fennel sausages! Recommended everything, was really good!

Only had a pint, so can't comment on the food, which nonetheless looked very good. Fast, friendly service. An excellent pint of Sharp's Sea Fury overlooking the beach. A good place to rendezvous if meeting someone as it's in a convenient location for local parking and yhe SWCP.

Nice pub in Newquay. Ambience in the front area is a bit sober. Located a little behind the hectic pedestrian zone. Food was good, service very friendly.

Such a shame….been coming down to Newquay three or four times a year now for many years and Red Lion is our first port of call. Have to say it’s nowhere near what it used to be…staff ok but not as good as in the past and this year ( half term and bank holiday) ran out of many beers with only the stronger ones available. I understand that this happens but ran out Sunday and still not restocked by Wednesday!! Seem to be a lot of new staff by comparison with previous times and has lost that really friendly atmosphere.

First time to the red lion while on our day trip to Newquay Staff, service , food all excellent. Would highly recommend. Will be visiting again

We showed up there with two people without a reservation, but with luck we were able to get a table that was free for an hour and a half. No problem. Everything is easy. All the conditions are absolutely nice and attentive, they make a lot of effort to explain the dishes, especially to us as Germans. I had a few problems with the peas myself. But with a lot of patience I also understood that mashed peas are mashed peas. We were then given the opportunity to take a little excursion through beer culture. The staff gave us different beers to try so we could choose our favorite. Everything very cordial. The meal twice, fish and chips with mashed peas, tasted exactly how you would imagine fresh fried fish. Keep it up, a deduction for the ambience because the table stuck properly even after wiping. This is probably because the tables in the pubs are always rubbed with disinfectant and a cloth. For whatever reason. But that doesn't detract from the whole thing. Red Lion, is absolutely authentic, young and old meet here, the surfer, the old man next door, families, and just tourists. Everything colorful. mixed.

Fabulous place really enjoyed the real ale selection. Food was good quality, plentiful ( for me ) Atmosphere great open mike night some great local performers. Apparently the quiz night is good but we bowed out at 9:00 pm

Popped in for a quick dinner. The nachos with jalapeños and cheese were great, which we followed with a burger and the Hunter’s chicken. The selection of beers and drinks was really good. Unfortunately the food was not at the same level and can be improved.

Visited whilst in Newquay very welcoming pub ....excellent food really enjoyed the sausage and mash dish .....partner had lamb shank was delicious would recommend if you are looking for a place with a good hearty selection of meals 😋

Sunday lunch was amazing, we had the roast beef and pie. Lots of choices. Extra roast potatoes, gravy and Yorkshire if required at no extra cost. Dog friendly. Service and customer care was spot on. Really welcoming and friendly staff. Great location.

Went down to the pub recently for a friend Birthday meal and was greeted with a lovely Waiter Called Rob. He was friendly and helpful when we asked questions about the ales. When Rob came over, he started talking to us about how our day was and I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. The food was out of this world. I definitely recommend popping down to the Red lion.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Went to dinner on Friday night, and will definitely be making it a regular event! Booking recommended for dinner as it is a very popular local venue. The food is absolutely amazing! Best feed I’ve had in town! The beef ribs (seasonal special) were cooked to perfection, the bone slid clean out, and the mash was incredible! The desserts are show stoppers, especially the rhubarb and custard dish topped with fairy floss and the deluxe sticky toffee served with a baileys on the side! Food was very reasonably priced, especially for the exceptional quality. Service was brilliant, all very welcoming, friendly and attentive, a great team! Wonderful atmosphere, great bar service, couldn’t recommend The Red Lion more, get yourself booked in! :)

Love this Pub, and always have to make a few visits on our annula revisit to Newquay. Beers always spot on and the staff are awesome - particularly the doors staff who have an awesome sense of humour.

terrible food served cold with rock hard mushy peas clearly left under heat lamp for an age. filthy tables left with loads of dirty glasses and plates from last customer for an hour although very quiet in there and three staff on. the chicken burger was a joke a child could make better and at 16 pounds served with a handful of fries and no side salad or coleslaw etc unless you paid extra it is a complete rip off.

Food was awful, grey chicken like it comes straight out the microwave. Good for a pint but wouldn't recommend food. Bar staff was friendly. You have to go to the bar to order. The venue is dirty, grubby carpets and everything needs updating The toilets were clean. Dog friendly, decent view if you can get near a window

Came down with some friends for lunch, I had the Roast beef which was cooked amazing and so where the vegetables. Staff very friendly and full of Joy. Would definitely be coming here again. A massive improvement from when I last cam here about 2 years ago.
