Had a dinner with family. When we arrived at 7pm on a Saturday the dining room was a little quiet but by 8pm it had soon filled up. The food was phenomenal. It is slightly different to Indian food we are typically used to and in my opinion it is better. The breads were great. The curry’s were all super flavourful and trying a traditional dessert was lovely too. Alcohol is a little on the expensive side for the area. I can’t wait to return and try other things from the menu as there was so much on there that sounded so good.

Red chiliez has been a favourite of ours for the time we’ve been at Southend-on-Sea and it has not failed us other than for the time the my were shut due to government delays. We’ve tried almost everything on the menu and the beef cutlets and subtly spiced “biriyani” is to go for. The biriyani is not really a biriyani but more a spiced rice dish made in the traditional Kerala style. Apart from these staples, non Kerala stalwarts like a dosa or vada at best had fresh and hot. All said and done this is as close as it gets to real South Indian food, about 85% authentic which is pretty much 100% when you aren’t in the actual country of your food’s USP!

I have reviewed this restaurant twice before, and the only reason why I am not doing another lengthy praise, but this time I have to highlight that we had a takeaway and the food was as good as it was sitting in their restaurant. This is by far and away the best curry in Southend, serving food with Kerala influence, and had to put another 5* review and acknowledge you can get a takeaway from them. Lamb and potato curry, grandmas chicken curry, fish in banana leaf, curried ladies fingers, steamed coconut spinach and the incredible Paratha. I can’t stop eating theses dishes. Stunning food. Absolutely stunning as always.

My wife and I fancied an Indian meal and after searching on Trip advisor we found this restaurant and booked for a mid week meal. On arrival the restaurant would not pull you in as it looks quite sparse, we entered and received a warm welcome from Jaimon who I believe may be the owner. He let us choose where we wanted to sit as being a Thursday evening it was not too busy. Tables very clean and nicely pressed table cloths. The menu is actually southern Indian so different to the usual Indian restaurant but plenty of variety and caters for Gluten free on most menu items. We ordered drinks and placed the food order. We started with he Chutney tray and poppadoms (strangely these were 2 separate menu items as opposed to one dish which is strange). The chutneys were clearly home made and not out of a jar, thoroughly enjoyable and tasty. For starters we had the prawn 65 and chicken 65, my goodness they were an explosion of taste and freshness, they made your tastebuds come alive, mild heat which made your lips tingle but not too much. Main course My wife had the Nadan Beef Ularthiyathu and I had the coriander chicken with Pilau rice, again the taste was awesome and so fresh. The beef was really tender and the sauce it came in was thick and rich. We also had a Kerala Paretha to compliment the meal and it was stunning. Jaimon gave advice when ordering which helped. The staff were lovely genuine Keralan people and you could see their heart are in making this restaurant what it is. Would we go back again.....of course we will, its making my mouth water typing this.

This is not standard Indian restaurant faire. I am no expert but understand it to be authentic South Indian food. Four of us went on a week day night. Around 20 covers in total. I think other diners there had been before and were knowledgeable of the menu. Certainly they were eating dishes we could not easily recognise. We needed help with the menu and our waiter (I think owner) took time to explain the dishes to us.The dining room is a bit bland and there was something lacking in the atmosphere although I suspect more people would have helped. The tables were laid out nicely with clean crisp cloths. The chairs are really lovely and comfortable. It was nice and warm on what was a chilly evening. We started with pompadoms and chutneys. The chutneys were unusual - somewhat sweet - then with a kick. We followed it with some starters - one person had the hot and sour soup. He likes spicey food - but it was too spicy for him. It was removed with an understanding smile and we were not charged. Gold star! We all ordered mains. My wife had Keralla Pepper Chicken that she loved. I had Travancore Lamb Curry - one of the very best dishes I have ever eaten. It was quite spicy, but the spice did not hit you immediately - the flavours just grew and did not overpower the soft succulent lamb. A warning - many of the dishes are quite spicy - if asked, some (not all) can be toned down - but may be not the place for someone who does not enjoy spicy food.Everything was washed down with very reasonably priced Cobras; pricing in general was fair and reasonable. Overall we were extremely impressed. I am getting bored with routine Turkish, Indian, Chinese food and Italian pasta dishes which differ little from restaurant to restaurant. I want something different - Red Chillizes has just that and we will be back to try other dishes, and be a bit more adventurous. We will try some of the street food and different types of bread that are on the menu. With a 5 star hygenne rating in the middle of the front door for all to see, I have no hesitation in giving this restaurant 5 stars.

( bearing in mind it was suppose to be the lamb and potato curry.) The pilau rice was also disappointing..It was a pity that I was not asked if everything was o.k.Needless to say a disappointing experience..

This is REAL Indian food and an absolute must to experience. It is not the same old British Restuarant/Bangla curry that can be found in abundance in any UK town. in fact I'm confident that a curry will never be the same again once you been to this place. This is the genuine INDIAN article and this is by far and away the very best among a handful of such Indian or Sri Lankan restaurants that I have found so far east of London let alone into Essex. It is worth the journey to get to as you won't find food this good and authentic in many places outside of India. The menu will be pretty much unrecognisable to most people but it includes a great range of authentic Keralan / Indian starters, mains, breads and desserts. From the very outset the poppadoms came with 4 incredible and more-ish home-made chutneys; beetroot/orange, pineapple, mint with home-made yoghurt and also one made from dates. There are numerous seafood and fish dishes and vegetarian sides and mains that could fool or surprise a meat eater; try the Gobi 65 (lightly battered and spices cauliflower) as it was amazing . We also had a great fried squid dish seasoned heavily with strong black pepper (and it had a real kick). The mains were incredible and we recommend the Grandma's Chicken Curry (on the bone) for its depth of flavour and the awesome Kerala Red Fish (salmon) Curry. The brown rice was great too (not too brown but big thick special rice grains unique to Kerala) whilst the paratha was a layered spiral of light and delicate bread that you'll need to soak up every last drop of the sauces with the mains. The Prosecco (One to One brand) was incredible too and on par with Champagne in its flavour and is not available outside the trade apparently. The owner Jaimon was great and guided us through the menu and warned us that it might be spicy and that he could tone it down if we wanted it. Don't do the latter though as none of it was anywhere near as hot as a Jalfrezzi let alone a Madras or Vindaloo an we think anyone can manage the heat (unless they limit themselves to a Korma). The food was spiced and seasoned perfectly and the depth of the flavour was absolutely amazing and way beyond anything we've tried within a 40mile radius. This place deserves to be listed among the very best that Southend and Westcliff has to offer. More importantly it is among the very best REAL Indian restaurants east of London, so it is a destination that is well worth seeking out. Personally I'd rather go here than to any other 'Indian' restaurant.

What a find this place is.The waiter was superb, describing in detail each dish and directing us towards certain menu choices that might be too our taste (they all were!).The menu is distinctly South Indian and gave a wonderful variety to the normal Indian menu fare. The chutneys served with the poppodoms were freshly made by the kitchen and all a little different, but all tasted wonderful. We will certainly return here - it was a great experience all round. Lets start with the welcome. A happy helpful waiter greeted us and showed us to our table. We had popadums with home made pickles scrumptious. When we ordered he explained the dish and asked what we particularly liked. Based on his recommendation 2 of us changed our orders. Note if we didn’t like the dishes he would replace them free of charge, makes you adventurous. Wow the food was delicious ( the lamb was so so tender ) the menu is not your normal UK indian as it os authentic Southern India. Be brave cannot recommend too highly am just hoping it doesn’t get so popular that I can’t get a table when i want one :-)

Compared to the usual English style Indian, this was a refreshing and extremely tasty southern Indian meal. Live locally and just haven’t got around to going here before, but will definitely be going again. Staff were friendly and helpful in choosing dishes.

We have been there on a Saturday night for dinner. Absolutely fantastic. Although we called just an hour before it was no problem to get a table. Had starters and a main dish each. The food was lovely and the service perfectly nice. We will definitively come back soon.

Four of us went to Redchillizes for a lunch time catch up. Wow, wow, wow what an amazing place. The food was to die for, the service was excellent and the knowledge of the proprietor was first class, as to how it was prepared, with the spices and how it was cooked from fresh, in the cultural way. This is a place to visit 100%. We will recommend and definitely go back. Thank you Redchillizes. x

Excellent quality South Indian food. I had the special fish on a banana leaf which was delicious, spicy with just the right amount of heat. My family had chicken dishes that they enjoyed. Even the poppadoms came with unusual and tasty dips. The menu is not too vast and is not your usual 'madras', 'vindaloo' etc but more individual Kerala dishes although there were Biryani's. Also they have special vegan nightsIt was a popular restaurant and the staff were friendly and helpful

Went to Redchillizes friday evening. It is an authentic South Indian (Keralan) restaurant. The service was excellent. The food was delicious, well presented and reasonably priced. As a main I had the fish coconut curry served on a banana leaf. Will definately go again and would recommend.

Fabulous time at Redchillizes. Delicious, authentic Keralan food. Felt like I was back in Kerala - was great to taste the yummy breads and curries were outstanding (we had king prawn coconut curry and chicken tikka masala). Onion bhajis starter also lovely and big servings enough for 2 people to share. Even the chutney tray was yummy (included a pineapple chutney). Highly recommend. Service also great.

This is the 4th time we’ve been to Red Chilliezs and we keep bringing new friends along. Once again, it didn’t disappoint. The service is friendly and attentive and you are never rushed. The food is fresh and authentic and absolutely delicious and not what you will find in your normal Indian restaurant. My only wish is that it was nearer where I live so I could go more often!

The food and service is supreme. This is South Indian food so don't expect a Balti. I'm from Birmingham, right in the Balti triangle so I have high standards for curry.I've always been a little disappointed with the curry in Essex. No longer...I know South Indian food and this place is RIGHT UP THERE with the best. And they understand what a vegan is, and the idfference to a vegetarian and obviously a meat-eater.All three are catered for here.Traditional Indian food at it's best. I'm a fan.Try the Indian doughnuts they're great and you won't find them anywhere else. Then I had a great vada, I think it was. A lovely daal with spinach and uttapam 'bread' to go with it.Lush I tried a side dish too. And this was great. Green beans with coconut. Lovely. I've never seen this before either. The mn serving us was fab. So interested and loves his work. A lot of passion for making this place great. It is already great.Go. You will be blown away!

We were highly recommended by our friends to use Redchilliezs at my 70th birthday party. Before we employed them to cater for my birthday we visited the restaurant and were blown away by the different taste of the South Indian food that they produced, the service was excellent and the food was outstanding. We highly recommend this restaurant for a taste bud experience. Without any hesitation we employed them to cater for my 70th birthday.
