A bit out of the way but the girls do their best with the ingredients they are given. The sausages are not fit for purpose this probably reflects on the price but we would have willingly paid more for better local ingredients.

Happened upon this tea room, was just looking for a snack for the family. Nice old building, with outside dinning. Food was great and plates were warm(not something you get everywhere), the hospitality was second to none as we were welcomed in by all the staff. Thanks for a nice break in the journey and to catch the scenery.

Went here for some food today after a hike nearby. Staff were very friendly although order was taken down wrong and had to be taken back to the kitchen which wasn’t an issue. The food was okay although over priced. We had some cake to take away which when we got to opening it, found that it was COVERED IN MOULD! Lots of furry mould over the bottom of all 3 slices (2 different cakes). Would never go back I’ve never known anything like it.

Happened to find this place by doing a Facebook search for afternoon tea in Monmouthshire. I booked an afternoon tea for 4 and asked for an ammendment and it was no problem at all. We were very impressed with the amount and quality of the food. 5 varieties of sandwhich, homemade quiche, sausage rolls all with generous garnish. This was followed by scones with jam and cream, cream and fruit topped meringue, sherry trifle, victoria sponge, fruit cake and coffee and walnut cake. plus endless pots of tea. There was so much we were unable to finish, so it was boxed up to take home. Although it was very busy, the staff were calm and very friendly. Definitely worth the visit. Thank you.

Oh, my goodness- this place is amazing! Anne runs a great tearoom, and her Sunday roasts are phenomenal. As she herself says- this isn't haute cuisine it is great farmhouse cooking and what I would say is that you can tell that everything is cooked with love. The roast turkey with all the trimmings was delicious and the apple crumble is just like your Mum made - if indeed your Mum was a great home cook! Highly, highly recommended- book in for the roast you won't be disappointed! Super friendly service from Anne and all her assistants too!

Very disappointed with our lunch and coffee. We had high expectations as the reviews were so high but felt very let down. Our order was taken down wrong, but we accepted what they gave us, the chips were soft soggy greasy and the scone was very hard. The coffee was nearly undrinkable and the cappuccino would have been nicer in a cup not a latte mug with sprinkles on it. Attention to detail and presentation needs to improve before we return.

I came across the Red Castle Tea Room when looking at castles in the area to visit with my sister and brother in law who were visiting Wales for the first time from the States. When I contacted them to make a reservation for 4 people on Tuesday, they informed me that they were closed, but would open especially for our vegan afternoon tea. I was elated! The tea room is quaint and cosy. I've had a myriad of afternoon tea experiences at the Savoy, the Wolseley, and the Ritz in London, but this tea was exceptional. Absolutely everything was delicious and abundant. We always show up very hungry to an afternoon tea, but this was the first time I've ever had more afternoon tea than I could finish. Again, everything was fresh, homemade, and delicious. I'll definitely visit again and again with friends and family. Highly recommend!

Really looking forward to a delicious Sunday Lunch. When we booked the young lady asked if we minded upstairs....no problem.Entered via downstairs serving area, approx five tables.Upstairs via a steep staircase to second serving area,5 tables very cosy, but come on oilcloth on the tables??That went out with the ark.The waiting staff are very young, but very obliging. We were asked what we wanted to drink,no alcohol served,we asked for tonic water.....not available. We settled for the water in a jug already on the table,by now very warm and open for a visit by the flies.Beef or chicken was on offer,we chose beef.We thought, home cooked beef....not so.The veg were brought to the table and they sat and sat whilst we waited for our plates with the meat on.....you've guessed it!the veg, except for the lovely piping hot cauliflower cheese had definitely cooled considerably. We asked for more gravy, which was served immediately. The veg were watery. The desert list was wonderful,we chose the raspberry crumble with ice cream, very generous portion. The pavlova and cheesecake looked very good.

I booked this for a friend as we were celebrating her big birthday and wanted to go somewhere different. After a long country walk around Skenfrith we ended up here for afternoon tea which I’d booked in advance. It was delightful! A lovely plate of sandwiches each which included a veggie sausage roll for me, a meat one for my friend and some delicious quiche. Then the cake stand arrived groaning with all sorts of goodies. We did our best, but were defeated and took the remains home with us in goody bags. A nice plant nursery on the same site with lots of unusual plants at reasonable prices. Well worth a visit and I look forward to returning.

Driving between Skenfrith and White Castles we first noticed the signs by the road, then passed the entrance and decided that we'd pop in for a cuppa and maybe a piece of cake on our way back from White Castle en route to Grosmont..........So glad we did! At first we thought the place was shut, but venturing round the back the lights were on and we opened the door (it was closed against a chilly wind) to receive a warm and friendly welcome from the young lady (Abi?) in charge at the time.Yes, we could pay by card - so the "cuppa and cake" we had enough cash for changed into Farmers Breakfasts (well, it was lunch time after all!) followed by the most delicious home-made Lemon Meringue Pie.Excellent value, freshly cooked food and attentive, friendly but not pushy staff. As we had planned another castle, an Abbey and an ancient burial chamber for the rest of the day and had lingered over our lunch, chatting to a friendly couple of regular diners here, we didn't have time to look at the plants but what we did see on the way back to the car looked worthy of more time to be spent... Oh dear! That means we will have to come back sometime. :)

My young family and I were warmly greeted by the young lady in charge as I hauled my grumpy kids in for some lunch. I would like to add that, upon reading a review which mentions local places to eat that they feel may be better, I felt I should mention that we were turned away from another local establishment for no reason other than our children! The waitress and cook was most obliging, rustling up some child sized portions of the daily specials and being friendly and patient even though there were lots of customers sat outside and my unruly bunch were a little messy! I had the Lasagne, which I found to be beautiful and my husband had lovely fresh ham egg and chips. We went out for a family lunch and decided that the garden centre would be a nice place to sit out. The surroundings are very pleasant. The service however was abysmal with drinks arriving at long intervals , no cutlery , no sugar bowl and just general confusion in the ordering process. The food itself was quite good except for the piecemeal arrival of the items and again lack of cutlery being issued in a timely manner. Chips were crisp on the outside but uncooked on the inside. My son was given an ice cream with a long hair in it . Despite the waitress seeing this and the expression of disgust on his face no effort was made to offer a replacement. We should have complained but the whole thing appeared to be run by youngsters on school holidays and there seemed very little point. We ended up laughing at the whole shambles but the upshot is that we will not go there again and would advise others against making a visit. There are better establishments nearby where customers are valued. Also worth noting is that the garden area is fenced off with a barbed wire top line I have always advocated a robust , man up princess approach to parenting but breaking out the first aid kit should not be part of lunch . My children are 35 and 36 and are fortunately developing some sense other parents may not wish to take a chance.

Such a friendly family running a small tea room next to the Red Castle Nurseries. I arranged to take our family there for my husband's birthday tea. I rang ahead and booked, and when we arrived we were welcomed and shown to our table. The host had suggested we order a traditional English tea for three, rather than four, as my daughter is only six. As soon as we arrived a piping hot pot of tea was brought to the table, as well as salmon, cheddar and onion, ham hock and egg crust less sandwiches, served on a bed of salad. A plate of delicious mini quiches arrived as well. We just about managed to clear the plates, and then 6 scone halves topped with jam (my daughter declared it 'the best') and cream turned up, alongside a mountain of delicious cakes of all sorts, and fresh water to top up our tea pot. The only downside was that my son, who would normally adore such a feast, was struck with jealousy as he watched other visitors order and consume MASSIVE knickerbocker glories! We could only eat about half of the cakes, so the young man serving us happily packed them into a container for us - we look forward to having them tomorrow. Amazing food and lovely people. We will be back! Thank you! (One hint - take cash - they can do credit cards, but only if you walk next door to the card machine! The tea was nine pounds a head and worth every penny!)

A friend of mine who works at the Tea Room took me there today for lunch and the food was lovely! Very well presented and good value for money. Staff are very polite and friendly. The Tea Room itself is snug and cosy. Would 100% recommend this to anybody. It's beautiful there :)

I call this review 'wow' because that seemed to be the most used word amongst our party of eight as plates of delicious sandwiches and cakes kept arriving! We were on a girl's weekend away and had planned an afternoon tea, after calling around a few places we found nearby on google (that were either closed or unable to accommodate us) the Red Castle Tea Room was welcoming and scrumptious! We arrived to a hot pot of tea ready to go, plates of Ham, Beef, Cheese and the most amazing Egg sandwiches a-plenty. (One suggestion - make your hot chocolate with milk rather than water? ). Sandwiches were followed up by a wonderful choice of cakes which we did an excellent job of demolishing. The few items we left behind, the lovely and attentive ladies boxed up for us to take home for our friend who was joining us later that day. And all for £9 a head! It's been my talking point of the weekend. Thank you ladies! If we are ever in the area again, we'll be back!

There is no doubt the food at Red Castle is delicious and even on a wet wintry day a fabulous selection of mains, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and paninis cooked to order. More desserts than you will know what to do with and a flexible approach to mixing options from the menu along with good cheery service made this a delightful lunch. The countryside is beautiful though we had to wait for the mist and cloud to clear before we saw that! The nursery has some lovely polyanthus and other plants but is rather untidy at present, with rubbish thrown under the tables in the greenhouse and toys and tools strewn around. The farmhouse and surrounds of the parking area are also untidy so before you reach the tea room you may be wondering where you have come to - it is worth persevering and hopefully with time they'll get the outside tidied up a bit...

We returned to Red Castle Tea Room today to sample Anne's Christmas Lunch. What a treat :-) Generous portion of tender turkey served with all the trimmings - Anne's roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese & gravy are all delicious. Xmas pud is a favourite of mine & Anne's individual pud served with piping hot custard was lovely. Despite being very very busy we received the usual warm & friendly service from Anne & her team. Great food, great service & exceptional value for money - £13 for two courses which included a complimentary glass of mulled wine which was very welcome on a wet & windy day in Welsh Wales. If you are in the area do yourself a favour & book yourself in for an xmas lunch at Red Castle, you will not be disappointed.

Food ok and staff reasonably efficient, up until the owners German Shepherd got loose from their back garden and attacked our leashed shitzu mix, as he was lying between our legs as my husband and I were having lunch on their outside patrons seating area attached to their cafe. After nearly £100 vet bill to stitch our dogs wound, the owner refused to pay the total bill.please be careful up there if you take your dog, as the lady in the nursery had already told me that their dog will kill cats! I was advised by the vet and others to tell the police, but being a dog lover, I was scared of the consequences. A cat yesterday, a dog today - I pray 'Not a child tomorrow'!I don't trust people that won't own up to their negligence, or that is obviously showing nocare for their customer.

We've had Sunday Lunch at Red Castle Tea Rooms several times in the past, the most recent being a couple of weeks ago.The welcome was friendly as always and the service was prompt and efficient (even though they were very busy at the time). The main course was delicious with plentiful meat and veg (a vegetarian option was available) and the choice of sweets was extensive - so many choices! The staff were polite, friendly and attentive (but not over attentive!) and the whole dining experience was very enjoyable. We'll definitely be returning.

My partner & I have just returned from two week trip to Wales. The Red Castle Tea Room is located close to our Skenfrith campsite & also our favourite walk up Skirrid so we found ourselves visiting several times. We enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch, a first class cooked breakfast, a morning coffee with toasted tea cake & an afternoon cuppa with scone, jam & cream so think it can be said we sampled quite a wide range! Without exception, all were excellent. Sunday lunch is served with a generous helping of seasonal vegetables & there is an excellent range of puddings on offer - Sunday lunches are very popular so good idea to book on advance to avoid disappointment. Cooked breakfast was lovely & much needed after a strenous pre breakfast climb up Skirrid. Ann & her niece Tracey are really friendly & welcoming. When you have sampled what the tearoom has on offer walk round to the nursery behind - the hanging baskets on display are stunning. If you are in the area you really should visit - you will not be disappointed. We have booked a long w.end in the area in November & look forward to sampling Ann's xmas sunday lunch on Sunday 29 November.

Quite the surprise to find this little place tucked away just out of Abergavenny. Greeted by bubbly staff and wafts of home cooked food, we were seated and served in a timely fashion. Though we were new to the place there definitely seemed to be plenty of returners popping in to dine - a good sign in my opinion! Would definitely like to join the list of regulars!

What a wonderful place. We stopped here for tea and a scone while we were driving past. Its set in a beautiful area with fantastic views. The tearoom is so warm and homely with wonderful friendly staff. A very nice feel to the place, it was like being with your family in your own kitchen. That's how comfortable I felt anyway. There was quite a few beautiful cakes on offer. All reasonably priced. A pleasant stop for refreshments or indeed a meal. There was a few eating Sunday lunch which looked and smelt delicious. I will definitely return.

Having not been to The Greyhound for a year or so, I was thrilled with our choice. Nothing had changed, everything was as good as before. Upon arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Despite the restaurant being busy, Service was prompt and friendly and the food ( Steak & Kidney Pie / Fruity Chicken Curry ) was plentiful and delicious. Highly recommended. We certainly won't leave it so long till we return

Beautiful location and beer garden is beautiful next to the river, however the barmaid was very snappy with my boyfriend and it seemed very clicky. A shame as it would be beautiful in the summer months

Another enjoyable visit to the Holland Arms. Usual friendly welcome and great service. We shared a duck starter from the specials board, amazing, especially the sauce. We then had lamb and steak as our mains. Both meats were delicious as were the accompanying vegetables. Good choice of wine (I enjoyed the Malbec). Couldn’t resist a bread and butter pudding for dessert - even though full. Look forward to our next visit - probably one of the Christmas meals now being advertised. Very reasonable bill.
