Great place for a bite to eat. Simple and effective. Pick your ingredients and wait 5 minutes for a noodle dish full of flavour. Been many a time and will be back many a time!

Build your own noodles 😀. They have plenty of options to build the noodles, and you can adjust the heat level. Thai red curry was delicious. They accept only cash, so be ready with cash if you are stepping into this shop. There is an atm close by. The lady was kind enough to prepare our food while we stepped out to withdraw cash. And the portion size is huge. Garlic Parmesan chicken bites is a must try. They have halal option for chicken.

Good food for a decent price and very friendly staff!

I hate to post a poor review but some things need to be said. First of all, it is a cash only business and there is not ATM in the business to procure any cash which is a huge hassle. Additionally, for ordering take out, not sure if it was an oversight but there were no eating utensils in our takeaways bag. The portions were adequate but bland and not something we would ever spend our time on again. I could see where reviews for money conscious college students would gravitate towards, but for me that was so many years ago that my tastes have become too refined for this venue.

Venu itself is a little plain but fine for a quick meal. Selection and preparation are always top notch. Bathrooms are a bit of a state but that's the public for you.

Food order easy. Cash only. Friendly staff and quick service. Have eaten sit-in and take away. Food fantastic and piping hot. Great selection available and can taylor to suit your own taste.

Very delicious food, the only thing to warn about is that they do not accept cards, only cash. There is an option to pay online, but you have to download the application and it failed for us. In general, excellent quality-price ratio. Be careful if you are not a spicy lover, there is only one level and it is strong 😅

Very nice concept and they have kind of noodle soup menu which costed only about 20£ and everything was included. Very affordable place and the foods were also amazing. The portion was enormous, I thought it would be smaller but it was definitely massive. Even it is a bit out of downtown, but it is worth to try. Highly recommended place.

Terrible restaurant with rude personnel

I used to frequent this place but the taste of the food veries from day to day. Sometimes it is amazing, sometimes not so much. I don't go here anymore because it is not worth the gamble.

This place is awesome, we work in the city centre and regularly trek to Red Box for noodles in a box. Friendly and fast service and the noodles are always packed to the top of the box. Very tasty and highly recommended, their Szechwan sauce packs a punch!

It is what it is. You can easily order at a tablet or order by person. Meanwhile quiet times (been on Monday evening) 2 bowls arrived in 7 minutes after order placed, cooked to perfection. The service is also great as our server even came to double check as one of our food highlighted no sauce and she recommended a great one instead (free of charge). All in all is an amazing place for quick and delicious food in an OK interior. But honestly, once you taste the food, interior won't ever matter.

Great place for a quick lunch, mostly for the students. Food comes quick and tastes pretty well, however the interior is not very clean.

I have just had the Ramen noodles for the first time in ages. I dot know what they have done but the noodles are terrible, they used to be the best in town, now they are the worst. I had to put half the meal in the bin as the noodles turned to mush. I won't be back

The food used to be really good here and was a place I went to a lot as a student. Now, the food felt quite tasteless and the squid wasn't nice at all. My friend also felt a bit sick after eating here. A shame really because it used to be brilliant.

Extremely inconvenient experience. You have to download their app to order food, and even then, the UI is incomprehensible, the ordering isn't intuitive, and the cashier doesn't take card. The service isn't great either, and the servers seemed to have no idea where the food was going once it left the kitchen. Staff always seemed stressed. Water pitchers were nearly empty. I wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Pros: - Quite cheap for what you get in quality and quantity. - Quick service - Lots of options - good gyozas! Cons: - the beef in the noodles was bad quality, I had a bit then threw out the rest and just ate the noodles and veggies - the chicken skewer didn’t come on a skewer ? And it wasn’t the best chicken, but still edible. - fortune cookies smelled so bad (plastic, processed)

The food is ok, and can easily be made at home. The food is affordable (under 10 pounds) and there is a range of vegetable options, which makes Red Box healthier than most takeaways. You choose a noodle type, a protein, three vegetables and whether you'd want garlic/coriander. Tip: it's cash only!

Delicious noodles, recommend teriyaki sauce, good portion size and piping hot

Just had my dinner here yesterday, I ordered ramen with beef and choose pak choy, mushroom and carrot for vegetables with malaysian chili. It was really nice, they cooked it very fast, and only cost me £7.70 Basically u need to pick your noodle, meat/seafood, 3 vegetables and the sauce. It is near Edinburgh University. Update: If you can handle spicy food, try the rice with beef black pepper sauce, so good. They always cook with very sttong fire, you should choose veggies that is quite hard like broccoli (my personal preference)

The Thai red curry is to die for... when it's done right! However, seating is limited and we do not enjoy ordering on the tablets. There have also been issues with consistency as the curry tastes very different on some days and has a different consistency.

Good for value and price, tasty enough. Cash only!! Adequate portion. When it came, it was smoking hot!! Very fresh. Will come again cos it’s pocket-friendly for students

Amazing food as always. Ordered the Pork Gyozas and Chicken and Pork rice noodles and yeah, this place never fails. Always perfect and on point and love the Cash Only policy, breath of fresh air nowadays.

Beware: after 9:10pm they stop serving dine-in. I arrived at 9:12 and they refused to serve me dine-in.

Overall, it’s a nice noodle bar which can offer value for money. But, one thing about stir-fried noodle is that the dish is too watery. When the bowl came, I was confused that am I ordered for the soup based??? There was too many water at the base of the bowl. I pretty sure I ordered for the stir fry and expected it would be dried and savory. I would give 4 stars if they fixed the watery noodle for stir fried.

Excruciatingly slow to order on their touch screen machine. Unfortunately the sauce (which I ordered) was over everything and was much spicier that I expected, so ruined the meal.

Very underwhelming. Chow Mein noodles were very small and thin. Tofu was soggy and the veg selection very bland. Satay sauce tasted fine. Ordering on the kiosk was annoying as its a bit unresponsive and then they only take cash after using the machine. Food was done fast.

Given this place a few attempts on deliveroo. Not once have i ever received the right order, no one ever picks up the phone to resolve issues. Deliveroo have had to give me credit out of their pocket everytime but really, redbox should be paying for their own mistakes.

Brilliant place that knocks it out the park every single visit. Staff are knowledgable and the service is great - attentive but not intrusive.

We found this quite by accident on the way to Holyrood distillery but what a great little place. The idea is to choose whatever noodles or rice you want, then 3 toppings, then protein option, then sauce. You can do it as a self-serve on a screen near the counter but we were shown what to do. Impressive that they have gluten free options for the noodles which were pre-packed to avoid cross-contamination. We thought it was just fabulous for a great price. It was cash only when we went which was fine but it might be worth remembering this if you go.

Good place to pop in for a quick lunch or meal. Freshly prepared food. Shame it is still cash only when you walk in and cannot use contactless or NFC payments.

Tempura prawns were amazing but my main : rice noodles with duck and some vegs in teriyaki sauce awful, tasteless, 80% was rice and I could barely find vegetables, had to add loads of my own sauced to have any flavoure. One of the worst noodle experience I've ever had 😔

Not too bad, but not so good.... Menu: 4/5, good variety. Food quality: 3/5, specially what they called as beef. The rest was OK. Food preparation: 2/5, lack of flavor and besides the noodles there wasn't much of the other ingredients in my bowl. Price: 3/5, for what was mentioned before it could be cheaper, but the restaurants on that area of the city normally charge a bit more anyway and the people who live there think it's cheap. Service: 3/5, don't need to be smiley all the time, but being a bit more friendly would be nice. Cleanliness: 4/5, not really much to say, in general seemed alright. Oh, and they don't accept cards, only cash!

This little DIY Asian place allows a large selection of build your own noodle/ramen bowl from a variety of ingredient options. It’s cheap, good quality and close to campus for student lunch breaks. I found the interior design to be a little fast food-like and personally prefer more of an atmosphere more similar to the culture of the food type. Just an opinion.

Ordered this to the hotel one night while on our family holiday and had to order it again the night after! Everything came hot and was super tasty! Seriously a good eat I can't recommend this enough - if you're on the fence please give it a go! I recommend the chow main noodles with tai sweet chilli stir fry style. Duck spring rolls are the best I've had and the salt and chilli wings are by far better than what I've had a any wing place. Noodles are also a healthy portion - Get yourself here ASAP or order on deliveroo if in the area !!!

The best noodle bar I have ever been too I'm years. The quality of service, attention to detail, ease of ordering. But the taste, well seasoned and super filling 👌🏾 The price is so satisfactory how do Red Box not have an award!

Worst takeaway I’ve ever had, sauce was watered down and tasteless and the noodles were undercooked. Barely got any of the toppings I paid for. Would not recommend go to ting Thai instead if you want a half decent noodle dish

Tasty food and efficient service.

Bit different. You go to cashier and choose your meat/fish, then choose 3 veggies and type or noodle or rice. It comes in a stock bowl for about £6 in 5 minutes. It's authentic and delicious Asian street food, nothing special but better tasting than the usual chains and much quicker and easier to get served. Always room inside at tables but mostly used for take-aways. Ideal in peak Fringe season.

Ordered 6 x noodle boxes for my family. All were barely edible. Tofu had an acrid taste, even basic ramen in soya sauce was tastless and not ok. Expensive mistake I won't be making again.

Great value and service, food is always great, that good I don't mess with my choice! The place as been refurbished new seat covers, fancy new lighting, mirror.

I got the rice box with chicken and mushroom singapore curry. when I grabbed the food out of the paper bag(which was in a plastic bag) it started leaking everywhere. I manage to clean everything up and when I pour the food into a bowl, I notice sticky overboiled rice. great(sarcasm). the chicken pieces were ridiculously thin which also made them dryer than gandhis sandals. the mushrooms were majorly undercooked and I'm assuming thats the part of the meal that is now actually making me sick. The sauce was missing a lot of flavour. most dissappointing food I've ever eaten.. Even the fortune cookies I got was lacking. first one I opened had no fortune and the third had a half fortune.

I have one word... WOW!! This was a true taste sensation as my 2nd husband Bill would also say. I ordered the chow mien noodles with chicken and a mix of vegetables. It all had a delicious flavour and the pak Choi was lovely and crunchy. Red Box is by far the best Chinese restaurant I have ever been to and I shall be returning very soon!

Korean spicy noodles - tasted of water, I've literally had better instant noodles. Sweet and sour noodles - tastes of sugar mixed with water. This is truly the worst noodle place I've ever had food from. Don't waste your money on food obviously not cooked by a chef.

Fab choice of rice dishes and noodles. Everything here is cooked fresh to order which is why it tastes so great. The menu had plenty choices and deals available for customers. Pricing is reasonable and the customer service is actually very good for such a busy place, Definitely worth a try if it’s a rice or noodle kind of day!

We ordered the set meals which were value for money. The noodle and rice bowls were generous portions that filled us. We could have actually not had the side and just orded the noodles/ rice ala carte. In any case, the £10.50 sets are great value, and you get your food cooked the way you want. Highly recommended
