The food and the coffee here taste great, but unfortunately the customer service is really lacking. There is always a very long wait, coffee orders are regularly forgotten, you need to pay attention to what they are serving you because they will often give you the wrong item. Sadly even though this is probably the best bakery in Kemptown and I've been a regular for quite some time I won't be going again because of the customer service. There is another branch of this place on Western Road in Hove, where the staff are friendly and efficient. I wonder if its possible to cross train as its not the first review calling this out.

I went to buy the best bread in the world, only available here! Great service as usual, Bethany was kind enough to let me order, emailed me she'd do what she could after the pre-orders had been done, then let me she could put them aside for me. Old fashioned trust, service and courtesy. Really lovely and I wish them all a very happy new year, thank you.

Disappointing. Very limited range of basic sandwiches and unable to add or change anything due to the sandwiches being prepared in the back. They added butter when I asked to my very dry sandwich consisting of a small,semi-fresh baguette and a few slices of so so salami,or it would have been a one.

Just paid a fortune for an inedible dry unbuttered lump of bread masquerading as a baguette with a scrap of ham and a lettuce leaf. How do these people get away with it?

Don’t normally write negative reviews but unfortunately had one of the most hurtful and cruel comments made about my child by a member of staff (blonde woman, 30s) serving at the Queen’s Park cafe. I am not sure if she knew I could hear or not when she made the remark to her colleagues, but in any case to say such vitriol about an innocent 4 year old and 1 year old twins within ear shot of them and their mother is beyond mean. I hope this lady thinks twice before speaking about other people and customers again and realises how upsetting it was for me to have to hear that. I’m still in shock and won’t ever be returning.

Great bakery and lovely friendly staff. However, avoid the chewy white and chewy brown bread - it's so full of holes! Impossible to make a good sandwich and toast ends up looking like a burnt spiders web.

I know this Bakery for years, formerly known as Real Patisserie. I am coming there quite often. Depending on the time you are visiting, it could be a good experience. However the main issue with this bakery is the customer service, it has always been an issue through the years, they are so so so slow to get the work done and as soon as a customer is ordering a hot beverage, this is chaos and the queue is growing and growing…manners wise, not always pleasant depending on who is serving you. Now, quality wise, if you have been travelling to France and you start to compare the sizes of the patisseries and their prices, you realise this bakery is overpriced. Overall the quality dropped over the years, there is no wow factor anymore, I think they are too complacent with what they do, they know they have lots of customers, this is business. Don’t get me wrong, the quality is still good but you can find better places in Brighton. Bottom line, I am starting to come less, it’s a question of balance, the negative is weighing more than the positive.

Attended one of the bread making master classes held at Open Bakery's new teaching kitchen in Kemp Town. Fantastic hands-on learning experience for just a small group of people, with the owner of bakery - no less! We made five different breads over the course of seven hours and enjoyed a great lunch too. Everything was easy to understand and explained in layman's language and even cooked in the type of equipment you have in your own kitchen so that you can replicate it when you get home. Wonderful overall experience - so much better than trying to learn techniques from a book or the Internet.

I happily drive a 90 minute return journey to get bread for everyone. After living in Brussels I couldn’t do without proper French style bread. The baker is trained in traditional French cooking and uses the finest French flours. Try the ancient style super pointy baguette with splintering crust and perfect chewiness. I love the chewy brown, chewy white, pain de campagne….. yeah, this is the next best thing short of jumping on a ferry to France. The coffee is also delicious, as are the excellent pastries, which include vegan options. Limited table space inside but close enough to the promenade to eat and stroll if the sun is out. Get there early to be the queue !

Yes, they sell tasty basked goods. So do a lot of places in town... We called past earlier in the afternoon and since there was a bit of a queue, checked the closing time on the door. 5.30pm - we decided to pass on our way home instead. 5.15pm and the shelves were empty, door locked and two staff cleaning up. For sure they can't magic the pastries back out of nowhere, but I just wanted to let them know their opening hours - painted on the door - were misleading, and disappointing, and ask that they pass that along to the management. At first the girl behind the glass tried to ignore me. Then when she deigned to come to the door to hear me, she just shrugged, then smirked, then laughed. Call me old-fashioned, but good customer service costs nothing. The young 'lady' inside took customer service to a new low, and I shall be avoiding this place in future, in preference of e.g. Real Patisserie (where service comes with a smile).

I'm a native Brightonian but hadn't been for ages because of the pandemic. This was my favourite new (new to me!) place I found. The choice, both savoury and sweet was wonderful. We took amazing croque monsieurs (veggie ones with truffle oil), two different little cakes and excellent coffees to the seafront and enjoyed them on a bench overlooking the sea. For the quality the price was fantastic. It looked like they had a brilliant range of whole loaves too. If I lived locally I think I'd be a regular. Really a first-class place.

Really good bakery, nice staff, lovely artisan and chewy brown baguettes. Oddly, the normal baguette is very ordinary, no better than supermarket. Uniformly lovely loaves but if I were to be picky, I've too often had a loaf with large air pockets so sometimes a slice is 60/40% bread/air.

The Real Patisserie has several locations around Brighton all with the same high quality French dessert specialties and breads. This location is certainly the most comfortable and cafe-like. My particular food preference has to be the quiche. If you have been conditioned by commercially produced pseudo-quiches, then be prepared: their quiches are some of the richest, most densely flavoured anywhere (yes, even in France). Their goods are expensive compared to supermarkets or similar but the extra cost is absolutely worth it.

Their food is delicious - from their quiches to their bread, from their croissants to their pastries to their sandwiches. I live close by and often pop in to grab some lunch but the problem is, unless you get there early, the choice starts getting really limited. Went in at 12:50 and they had 3 sandwiches and a couple of rolls left. I don't understand why they don't make more or make sandwiches up to order. Unfortunately, it's getting to the point where I actually usually just go elsewhere (as there are a few really good cafes in Kemptown) rather than risk walking here only to find their shelves empty yet again. A few more smiles from the staff wouldn't hurt either. Great food, but not enough if if.

Visited only once and purchased pain au chocolat which were some of the best I have tasted. Will return to sample further delicacies, in particular the almond and chocolate croissants, most of the gateaux, the bread and the quiche!

Part of the growing popular Real Patisserie chain, but all unique in their style and approach. This bakery never disappoints and always offers freshly baked goods with carb-fuelled deliciousness. I adore the rye sourdough more wheat free options but the chewy brown is a welcomed occasional treat!

The Real Patisserie is awesome. The quality of the food is fantastic and the prices are extremely reasonable. We love their sourdough baguettes, all their quiches, their pastries - pretty much everything in fact,

I am a missionary when it comes to Real Patisserie Chewy Brown. It is incredible! I didn't realise how good bread can be until I tried this - as bread or toasted it is amazing.

I have only been to the one on Western Road, Hove and it is excellent. Wonderful cakes, pastries, breads. Their raspberry Danish are lush. Good coffee too. Always busy. Not cheap though.

I visited the Real Patisserie with my mum, we enjoyed good coffee and yummy home baked quiche which had a thin crisp pastry base and avoided the all too common sludgy pastry base. We sat at a communal scrubbed deal table. The service is efficient and friendly, unlike a lot of Brighton places, our favourite bakery/cafe in the area.

Me and my Son love this place, lovely sausage rools and wonderful cakes. Service is great especially if you are lucky to get served by Ruth as she is fantastic.

I was amazed to find this gem in Brighton. It is a very nice French Patisserie selling very high quality products. The items are freshly made on the premises with a good selection of artisan breads. They do very good coffee, great variety of sandwiches. I would definitely recommend this place and when I am in Brighton again I will be visiting.

The Classic Breakfast was really good. The food was cooked fresh, hot, and very well presented. Fresh orange juice and lovely coffee & tea. The staff were very welcoming, accommodating and friendly. The rest of the menu looks very interesting with a long list of available sandwiches and baguettes. Would very much recommend this cafe and will definitely return when visiting Brighton again. Thanks very much !!
