Rani's Restaurant in Thanet

Visited with my hubs and my ma... it was her first visit. We chose an NZ Sauvignon blanc from the wine list... it's only recently that the restaurant got its licence and there's a short list but this was really nice and a good price (£18). We skipped starters and went major on the main course. We all chose our own main dish and we shared between us a portion each of dhal and spinach dhal because we're big fans and couldn't decide! We did pretty well...finishing off all the dishes and staggered out to catch the Loop bus home! Great meal at a reasonable price. Recommended.

1st time visiting Ramsgate and in our MH parked up for night expecting to walk and find somewhere to eat. Weather closed in and was pouring with rain so decided to order a takeaway. As we didn’t know who or what was best we went on reviews and so glad we did. Ranis is one of the best we have ever had . The mutton kedai was sensational as was the chicken Ceylon ordered 1 rice which was more than enough for 2. Only let down was the just eat delivery driver who was new to job and couldn’t find us but after a couple of calls to us he made it. Even though there was a slight delay food was piping hot and delicious . Have decided it’s worth a 3 hour trip to visit the restaurant !

I eat a lot of Indian food and this is honestly of a different order to most restaurants. Realty exceptional food. Lovely staff. Treat yourself to a meal here. Wonderful food.!

Definitely recommend Rani's restaurant. The food was absolutely lovely and really tasty. The staff were also lovely and very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for them and they genuinely appreciated your custom. We will definitely be going again.

Rani’s restaurant has been a real find. The welcome is warm, the food is fantastic. The menu offers so much choice but if you’re a vegetarian you will have so many gorgeous dishes to chose from. Highly recommended.

Wow! What can I say!? What a great place! All staff were friendly and helpful and the food was phenomenal! All 3 of us loved our food. I’d heard good things and I will absolutely come again!

Been back to Rani's again... This is definitely a habit! I can't get enough of the spicy vegetarian dishes. My dining companions seem to be working their way through the breads selection. I took a pic of the new favourite egg veechu roti. We love the spinach dhal - it's a repeat order! The restaurant has just opened a new room so has space for larger groups or private parties. And I understand are applying for an on premises alcohol licence but currently it's still BYO.

This was our third visit since December. Food still really authentic and tasty. Staff as usual friendly and welcoming. The restaurant is being extended and will be ready soon. Hence probably why prices have increased, but for us still worth it, we felt it was underpriced previously. We hope the business will continue to thrive. We will return again. Thank you for another delicious meal.

Hands down the most authentic delicious South Indian / Sri Lankan food I have ever had in the UK and Rani and all the staff so incredibly lovely and accommodating especially with our new baby. This place is an absolute gem.

A TRULY APPALLING EXPERIENCE for a meal at 5.30 p.m. on a Sunday. I recommend people avoid this shambles of a place. It was a farce from start to finish and I would have marked it as "no stars" if I could.. Firstly , the group of five I was with arrived on time , and the restaurant had erroneously written it down as a table for two. We then had to wait for two other other tables to finish eating , before we were moves to a very poorly situated setting next to the door. The restaurant was nearly full but was grossly over noisy, not helped by a very low ceiling , and a table of jobs shouting loudly so I could not hear the other members of my party talking at a normal level. The decor is plain , with no effort made to decorate in any way. During the meal a string of people wanting takeaways were allowed by the Management to stand near the door chatting while waiting adjacent our table , hemming us in ....while two others were allowed to wait at a vocal table taking pleasure at watching my group eat , making it unpleasant to eat. The food took over 75 minutes to come out ...not sure whether the servers could not keep up , of the chef was incompetently slow. The meal had to be rushed as three of the party had to leave to go to another function ....a one course meal should NOT take two hours to serve and finish. Quite simply this is the WORST SERVICE I have ever encountered . Kindly , one of the other members of the party offered to pay. The food was OK, but a little bland , but served piping hot If it was my treat , this experience was so bad I would have left without paying for anybody's meal. Avoid at all costs.

With regards to the last review I was in the restaurant at that time and found the food as always was excellent quality & presented with a cheery smile & nothing was to much trouble, the family work tirelessly to ensure that everyone is having a good experience with their food & home, it is spotlessly clean, decor and has been tastefully decorated, all in a comfortable little gem of a place in Ramsgate, as stated by previous review they were busy but accommodated our party even though we did not book until last minute, it shows how popular they are to have that many customers at 5.30pm, they don’t hold an alcohol license, however they welcome you to take your own drinks & the do NOT charge corkage fees, they supply filtered water at table at no extra cost, I have been going to this restaurant since they launched & and I have always found the food & ambiance spot on along with an amazing reasonable priced Sri Lankan menu.

This restaurant is absolutely amazing and it is just going to get better and better with the expansion happening over the next couple of months. it is family run and they work extremely hard to give everyone an amazing experience, they are very proud of the dishes they serve from Southern India. I have been visiting here since it opened last year and always felt very welcomed in a comfortable setting along with tasty dishes to enjoy in a relaxed no rush atmosphere, I highly recommend this venue not only for the amazing food but the prices and the fact you can take your own alcohol. I visit at least twice a month and have already reserved a table for Christmas Day. 2024. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy.

Not for us in all regards, didn’t enjoy the food or ambience . Supposedly authentic- if thats the case, authentic is not for us. We Didn’t enjoy any aspect of this place, bright lights , horrible food, no alcohol licence, single multi sex unpleasant toilet , really disliked it. Ramsgate lacks a decent Indian restaurant, maybe that’s why other reviews are good? Bizarre

Just back from a delicious lunch after another visit to this authentic restaurant. Lovely friendly staff and good atmosphere, they are so helpful if you need to clarify dishes on the menu. It was appreciated when our plates were completely empty! We will return again. Thanks once again for a fantastic meal.

I didn't book this time as I was unsure when I would arrive. What a shock I had, all the tables were filled. Great for Rani. I left my phone number as they said they would call when a table became available. There was a great atmosphere and as usual I had a superb meal.

Visited a couple of days after Christmas for our daughter’s birthday. Lovely ambiance and friendly staff. Food was absolutely fantastic, nothing was left on our plates. We will definitely return! Our daughter has visited Sri Lanka and was very pleased that our meal was very authentic. Many thanks for a wonderful meal.

Excellent! Lots of different dishes, many I haven't tried before, and not a naan bread in sight! All the food was lovely and the service was really good.

This Sri-Lankan restaurant is fantastic and is, rightfully, becoming very popular amongst the locals of Ramsgate. The menu is diverse and there is an option for everyone - chicken, mutton, fish and lots of vegetarian and vegan. Everything is really reasonably priced and you take you own alcohol which makes it even more reasonable. The staff are extremely helpful which was very welcome as we do not know Sri-Lankan cuisine as well as Indian. I chose the king fish (a bit like monkfish) and mango curry with mushroom rice and it was spectacular. If you have a starters, go for something light because there is plenty of food!

This is the best place for authentic south indian/Sri lankan curries and food in THANET..Newly opened and under new management this restuarant ticks all the boxes, the food is cooked fresh to order and is served with a smile. Its not your regular curry house there are various options all the old regular dishes, however you'll find lots of new dishes to try too such as the Dosas, Beef fry, Aubergine masala its well worth a visit to Ramsgate just to try their food I promise..The restuarant is Small in size but Big in taste, highly recommend you treat your taste buds and pop in and see Serin, Rani and the team...

Recently had Rani's recommended and so thought I'd give their takeaway service a go. Very friendly and helpful staff member in the restaurant who took my order, delivery on time and again with very friendly staff. Food excellent, well presented and great flavours. Definitely recommend it - great food very reasonably priced.

Spent a pleasant evening at the rani. The service was excellent as was the food. The menu was explained clearly and concisely and we made to feel very welcome. The prices were reasonable and we were pleasantly surprised by the bill
