Rajpoot in Taunton Deane

Large Indian restaurant on edge of town centre. Doesn't have an alcohol license but locals bring their own. Not the best Indian restaurant in the world but certainly not the worst. Our food was very good and at a lower than average price.

Thanks to British Airlines I found myself unexpectedly back in Taunton late in the evening and starving. While I waited to get picked up I just gave this place a chance (despite the nasty reviews from some rather judgy people on Google). The food was absolutely delicious. The folks were friendly and let me hang out after my meal. All in all a nice experience. Thanks Rajpoot!

Has to be the worst experience I have had eating out ever ….. the food was truly awful , unfortunately most of it was returned uneaten ….. don’t waste your time or money

Rajpoot - more like “Rajpoo”. Worst curry I’ve ever had. One tasted like custard with some lumps of chicken in and the other was like butternut squash in a can. The curry’s came Luke warm - I will not be ordering from here again. Dreadful food!

Had a delivery,turned up luke warm All the curries were bland The bahji's were hard,overcooked and cold Way over priced food at a cost of £85 for 4 dishes that turned up cold and bland NOT RETURNING AGAIN EVER!!!!

No longer sells alcoholic drinks but you can take your own with no corkage charges. Same good food but a saving on the drinks.

Pretty poor I’m afraid. The food was bland and tasteless, also watery which smacks of a reheat as opposed to fresh. The Nan bread was doughy and tasteless as well, and the staff a bit pushy. Shame really, I’d heard good things but it was poor at best. Won’t be returning or recommending it to anyone unfortunately.

Recently visited this all time favourite curry house but extremely disappointed and will not be returning. Arrived early at 6.30. First confusion with ordering our drinks, which should have been simple. Onion bahji were rock hard and cremated. They offered to bring fresh ones after pointing this out but weren't much better. The chicken in the curry dishes was of such poor quality and was like they were using the scraps of meat. So quality is not what it used to be. Lastly the bill ... was over charged and for items we never had (this can often be an issue). All in all totally disappointed with the service and food which is a shame.

by far the best indian we’ve ever had and always our go to! fast delivery, food piping hot, great portion sizes and such a polite and lovely delivery driver too! wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Myself and some friends went along to this restaurant during our stay in the local area. It didn’t disappoint, the staff were very friendly the food was delicious. It was easy to find and I would recommend going here.

We eat here nearly every week, the food is excellent. Tasty, piping hot, lovely warm plates and served with heated trays to keep everything hot. When we are away from Taunton and want to eat out we would never choose a curry house as we know we will be disappointed and make comparisons with The Rajpoot. It is not a trendy venue - it is a very traditional curry house - producing amazing food. The pilau rice is the best I have ever tasted and the naan breads are delicious. Cannot fault anything about it.

We had the Nawabi Delight, very fruity, mild and tasty, and the Chicken Nilima, a good strong flavour, not over spiced. Delivered to our hotel in Taunton. Will try something else on the menu next time!

Very friendly and timely service, great fresh food and a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone fancying a curry in Taunton!

We were on a long and late journey and called in to Taunton to find something to eat. We asked some local people who recommended here and we were not disappointed it was fantastic! The owner and staff were lovely, the food was excellent and it was very quick. There were 5 of us and we all really enjoyed it. 5 stars!

This restaurant does my favourite curry, chi chana chaat. Its a fairly basic restaurant but the food is always good, service a little grumpy but you can have a laugh with the waiters. Good Indian, good takeaway too.

The best curry house in Taunton by a distance! I never go anywhere else. I’ve tried many of their dishes and the flavours are always exquisite. Loads of choices on the menu, whether you fancy a mild, spicy, well known or obscure meal this place has it. The staff are beyond excellent, on multiple occasions offering complimentary popadoms and drinks. Sit down or take-away this is the best place.

Really lovely meal here.. staff very attentive , couldn’t do enough to make our meal incredibly enjoyable. Atmosphere, environment everything perfect. Food exceptional. Well Visit again and probably again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Fair price and speedy delivery but what a dissapointment. Onion Bahjee were fine but lacking any spices or herbs. Tandoori chicken neither had any flavour, nor, I suspect , had ever seen the inside of a tandoor. It didn't even have any colour. Prawn Puree...

Literally the worst Indian restaurant I have ever been to. Awful food, rude, bordering on aggressive service and hideous decor, the green neon has to be seen to be believed. Avoid at all costs.

Curry had no depth of flavour & all looked the same, despite supposedly being Jalfrezi & Balti etc. Chicken seemed processed & in chunks. Service was pretty bad-tempered - not one smile all night & they weren't prepared to sell us a couple of glasses...

Take away meal. Slight issue with order however this was dealt with in a professional and polite manner and compensated without hesitation or request. The food was absolutely delicious and would highly recommend. Will definitely order again without hesitation. Thank you to all concerned

The food was good very tasty and delivery was faster than expected, but I ordered a pass and a, almonds and coconut and what came was a tomato based sauce, still nice but just not what I ordered from the description on the menu, this...

This was not only the worst Indian food that I have had, but possibly the worst restaurant food I have ever eaten. Starters were industrial and although we ordered different main dishes they came out identical: bland, watery, and without any care taken in preparation...

We regularly use the Rajpoot, the food is good quality with very friendly service. We have used the delivery service in April & May which was a bit slow but the food was still great - no complaints. When customers can return to the restaurant...

My Favourite Indian In town, staff are friendly and polite and always give a cheeky freebie too for the children ( soft drink and chocolate) The meals are large, hot, tasty... Will Always recommend Rajpoot either for a take away or sit in..

The worst Indian food I’ve ever had,made me ill. Should have realised when it came out it was bland,tepid and quantity rather than quality. Service was poor for a quite night in February,the standards are low for a restaurant in 2020.

Best Curry! This is our favourite place to get our curry take away, food always ready and hot and delicious,with a warm friendly smile from the host , always looks after us with a drink and chocolate too!

We used the new online delivery service, well, tried. Placed the order and within 7 minutes it updated to say it had been delivered. It had not. We gave it time because these updates aren't always accurate and rang them as the delivery time approached to be told there was a delay in the kitchen but it was on the way. Half an hour after the call (and hour in a half in total after the order was placed) we rang again to be told it had been delivered. It had not. Apparently it was delivered somewhere else. Thankfully we were paying cash on delivery so took our custom elsewhere and will not be returning. The quality has been diminishing recently anyway and the prices have gone up so I'm almost thankful for this experience

Good quality service and food. There's far too many choices on the menu. The interior could do with improvement although it was clean. Centrally located.

Quality of the food isn't bad, but the service is poor. The waiters just do not listen to what you ask for.

We keep coming back for the beautiful Naan bread and solid curry option. Reliable, friendly, no nonsense curry house. Keep it up! P. S. Maybe you could find a more sustainable alternative for your hot hand towels which are not very environmentally friendly? :)

We enjoyed the food here and the person who served us was friendly and chatty. People seem to use it more as a takeaway but you can sit inside as well.

My favorite curry house in the world! Extremely friendly staff always smiling and will do anything for you. Have been with huge groups and they’ve always accommodated us at last minute. Food tastes awesome super reasonable and they always try to give you a few freebies to keep you happy. Easily worth flying to the UK Anddriving to Taunton for.

My friend and I went in here after a concert in vivary Park. It was empty when we went in and that was about 11 but it was full by the time we left. We had a butter chicken which was enough for two and a keema rice which was sadly dry and tasteless. But the peshwari nann was the best we had ever eaten! Reasonably priced and the waiters were fab.

We visited Rajpoot, the poppadoms and sundries were great but the chicken balti I had tasted like a coconuty korma with a few onions and peppers added - no tomatoes in sight. There were a lot of staff working and the restaurant was dead so we felt very watched, but not once did someone come over and ask how our meal was. Very disappointing, I won't be back.

We went here on a quiet Sunday evening, the welcome was very warm and the curries were delicious. All the sundries were very good also.

After they told us they deliver we thought we try them, word of advise DONT BOTHER! It too 2HOURS to get here by the. I was fuming and turned them away! Food is always good there but there delivery takes longer than a flight to Spain!

I have been going to the Rajpoot for many years and can honestly say have never had a bad meal. They have a lovely selection which all come wonderfully cooked. Service is always polite and quick. Perfect

Cheap meal in a pretty grotty restaurant. The decor was non-existent, and to hide it, the lighting was poor.

We usually have a weekly take away, having tried all the other ones in Taunton and it never disappoints us. The variety and selection is very good and the food is always delicious. We were really surprised to see all the bad comments in other reviews, so we purposefully went out to compare thinking we were missing out on something and actually we will stick to rajpoot.

We ordered take away last night the food was 2hrs 15 mins late and cold! We called numerous times to be told its on the way very poor service do not use

6 of us went out for my birthday, as always the food was outstanding. I would highly recommend this place.

Very cool initial reception from staff and after ordering was told they are not licensed and would have to venture to local shop to buy wine/beer so settled for mineral water - that's a first! Restaurant lacking in ambience and looking rather tired - freezing cold, though they did turn the air-conditioning off when asked as we were then the only customers in the premises. Food was acceptable; not much else to say.

If you are looking for Indian food, please stay away from this restaurant. This is not how Indian food tastes. None of the dishes we ordered were even close to the name of the dishes. Service was also on par with the food quality. All in all a worst experience in a beautiful place - Taunton!

I'm no expert on Indian food. However, the dish I chose, which was Duck in a sweet sauce turned out to be strips of duck in something like a korma. It was not what I was expecting from the menu description, I also ordered Coconut rice. This seemed to be rice over some shredded coconut...not cooked together as a flavour. I have to say though that most of our party really enjoyed their meals. Portions were very good and the service was excellent.

We visited at about 7 pm on a Monday evening. The restaurant was very quiet but we found it clean, spacious and tidy. The staff were courteous and helpful. The menu was vast with many house specials and very reasonable prices. We ordered the set meal for two. The vast amount of food that arrived was enough for at least four and was of top quality. We were unable to eat more than half of the food and were asked if we'd like a doggy bag. Had we not have been staying a hotel we would have readily accepted.

First time visit and last time filthy place cold food no atmosphere meat fly in the window next day we had an upset stomach I wonder why??? Won't be going there ever again the place needs a revamp as it's old and dated

We use the Rajpoot for takeaways normally, but have dined in as well. It's wonderful, friendly and the food is so good! It will always be my favourite restaurant in Taunton. Family run businesses are quite rare now, so nice to support a local business as well.

Went here as a group of 12 and opted for the banquet menu. Everything started well and the first courses and drinks were fine, but the service deteriorated from there. The mains came out a long way apart and whilst we all pretty much enjoyed them one of our party waited a long time after everyone for hers, when it did arrive it was raw in the middle so had to be sent back. Nobody came and asked if we wanted coffee or desert so after a long wait we paid the bill and left. We won’t be going back.

We were stranded in Taunton due to the sudden snow falls and we called in on the off chance that the restaurant would be open when many places were closed. We had a fantastic meal at the Rajpoot which really went down well. We would really recommend this place and we will certainly be back, hopefully when there is no snow.

I decided on the spur of the moment as well as being hungry I would try and have a go at eating out at this restaurant.

Me and my family frequently come here and also get takeaways. The staff are super friendly and the food is tasty too. Have probably been coming here for over ten years and can't fault it!

We go to the Rajpoot regularly and cannot believe the overall Trip Advisor position with other restaurants in Taunton. Even when it is compared with only Indian restaurants I do not think it has the position it deserves. I have been to Guddi & Gikki, Pink Garlic, Mint & Mustard and all the others that try to be different/trendy, and, for me they do not come close to The Rajpoot. They have all been a huge disappointment.

I would possibly have rated 4/5 but I got a chicken tikka massala instead of chicken tikka Jalfrezi, the chicken was good however quite different from what I wanted.

Visited around Christmas, and we were immediately greeted and offered a table in the fairly busy restaurant. The staff here...

.....and dinner here was right on the button. I'm surprised that this welcoming restaurant with its generous servings of very tasty Indian fare doesn't rate higher. My prawn puree (and I'm a prawn puree addict with plenty of comparisons under my belt - literally) was superb, as was my garlic chilli lamb. Lots of meat and no padding - just enough very tasty sauce not too swamp the dish. The beer was really cold and the welcoming service really warm. Thanks to all at Rajpoot.

This place is the best in Taunton. The staff couldn’t be more welcoming, The food is first class and very reasonably priced. While this place is still going I would never go anywhere else. I love this place and all the staff. Thank you Rajpoot for years of excellent service. You are all great.

Brilliant selection on the menu. With a range of meat and vegetarian dishes. Very reasonable price for the quality of the food. Good portion sizes, the curry itself was great with nice flavours. Overall a good place to have a well priced Indian close to Taunton's main high street.

We've been enjoying our visits to the Raj for many years and our meal last Saturday was no exception. Whether dining as a couple or in large family groups the friendly staff ensure a pleasant meal enjoyed by all.I can heartily recommend the vegetable jalfrezi [my usual choice]. The portions are very generous but the staff will gladly bag up the remainder for taking home. We've tried several curry houses in Taunton but the Raj is number 1 by a mile.

Good service and tasty food. Fairly priced. The hot dishes were hot and the mild, mild. I like that. You know where you are then.

I often get takeaways from here and they staff are excellent, and so kind even when we have eaten in. They have many options to chose from and will happily explain them to you. If you collect your takeaway (over £10) you will get a 20% discount.On one occasion we were given a bottle of coke from the staff which was such a kind gesture, and chocolates also. Also every time we go in the door is held open for us which is very kind considering it is not necessary.

Visited last Weekend, one of our regular Indian houses. never have a bad meal, staff are always friendly and remember you. Recommend the Chicken Ceylon.

I came to visit my girlfriend and we ordered via just eat. The raita was off. Curry was tasteless. Never again. The chana dahl was decent at best and is why im not giving one star.

Myself and my partner visit Rajpoot once or twice a month. We are both vegetarian and still find many options, I have even been made something off-menu on a couple of occasions. We prefer to visit during quiet days in the week rather than weekends, and never feel rushed or watched. Standard meal: peshwari naan, half a garlic rice with my partner, pakora and half a saag ponir. Perfect for us.

A must try restaurant, fantastic hospitality with waiters attentive to detail excellent. Nothing is too much for this Indian restaurant. Food and drink very well priced. Not far from a carpark or taxi rang.

Every item: naan, rice, mains (one prawn, the other chicken) was delicious. In 2016 I have been to at least five Indian restaurants and the food here was the best.

Foods are very delicious. Papadom is love. Near Taunton town. Place not crowded too. Try this restaurant if u want to experience good indian cuisines.

Being an Indian and a restaurant general manager myself I can genuinely say this is the best indian restaurant i have eaten among the 6 i have tried in taunton. The food is authentic and not just tomato saucy. Service is friendly. And reasonably priced... tried it twice will be on my top list.

How can I describe this accurately without using expletives? My wife said what another reviewer says - it tasted like it came out of a jar - and a budget priced one at that. Prawn Puri starter has a leaden puri and the prawns were bland and in a glutinous sauce, my wife's vegetable samosas appeared to be filled with vegetables out of a 'mixed frozen' bag and were completely unspiced and flavourless. Mains (green chicken marsala, prawn karahi were awful – the former bland and the latter really weird and unpleasant tasting. Service was OK but décor was austere and reminiscent of a greasy spoon café and there was no ‘atmosphere’ to speak of. Avoid at all costs.

The Raj Poot used to be our go to curry house, but on a quiet Saturday evening the service was shambolic and the food only passable. We ordered a large bottle of water and got a small one, we asked for a large one instead and got a pint of water, we gave up. We order a bottle of red, it came with cork intact left on our table, we asked if it could be opened, they opened it, poured me a glass then offered my husband to taste it, when he said to just pour him some they didn't and just left the bottle on the table. The poopadoms tasted to me like the oil was on the turn, and the curries were ok, though had uncooked onion and our side dishes got forgotten. Won't be rushing back..

All the years I've lived in Taunton I've tried many Indian restaurants but none of them can come close to Rajpoots takeaway meals. I use this place on a regular bases and also eat in house on special occasions. I highly recommend the garlic chilli chicken or tikka masala accompanied by one of there delicious naan breads. I've only ever complained twice in all the years of going there and I was instantly cooked a better dish and given a cobra as an appology, the second time they refunded the meal and replaced it also. I will carry on being a customer here.

Use this testaurant for takeaway meals and eat in, food and service always excellent. We have closer curry houses to where we live but go the extra mile as this place is worth it.
