Natraj Tandoori Restaurant in Taunton Deane

We were down from London looking for somewhere to eat sat us straight away. The food was amazing the staff are so friendly and chatty. The lamb just fell apart in your mouth

Really poor. We were the only table and food took over an hour to come out. Meat wasn't tender, naan breads lacked flavour and some of the food was lukewarm. This used to be my favourite Indian in Taunton but I won't be returning

Sadly the worst curry ever. If you need a chef I could do a better job. Curry lacked any flavour or depth of anything, I think you have gone down hill every time I use you, but this is the last time for me, to call yourself a curry house, your a joke.

Went above ans beyond by hand delivering a menu the day before I ordered. As a Durbanite from South Africa, I have very high standards when it comes to curry the samoosas were great and we enjoyed the Jalfrezi.

Poor communication over 2 hours to deliver food and when we got the food it was cold

This is lovely local Indian restraint. With friendly and helpful staff Food was all cooked well, and was delicious. Very reasonably priced, would come again.

First time I tried their food (Biryani) in February 2022, I had stomachache and symptoms of D&V. Second time I ordered their food in June 2022, I ended up with painful abdominal spasms and vomiting that lasted 2 days. Lucky the food was oily I ate just a small portion. I have reported the restaurant today to Public health inspectors (Food standards agency Taunton) pending a visit to the premises. Please avoid for your own health.

If it's authentic Indian dining you're after, then look no further. This is one of the finest Indian restaurants in the Taunton/Yeovil area. Brilliant staff, that are extremely tentative and knowledgeable. I highly recommended this place for 10 out of 10 dining.

False price list…. Check your bills!!!! Charged £34 for 2 meals to takeout but when I added up prices advertised it was £10 over charged 🤷🏻‍♀️ When I queried the bill the lady said they haven’t got their new prices advertised yet 😱😡 She said no body else had complained except me!!! I cancelled my meal and went elsewhere which didn’t rip me off…

My family and I went to this restaurant yesterday we travelled all the way from Yeovil, because we heard from many people about the tasty food. I ordered a lamb madras which was just dowsed with chilli powder, not cooked with any authentic spices. Very lazy cooking if you ask, poor from the bayleaf.

Superb. We are doing a tour of all Indian restaurants in Taunton. This one has been the best so far. 5 courses for £12.95 on Wednesdays. Exceptional choice of curries.

Still the best selection of dips in town for your popadoms 🤗. Always friendly and the chilli garlic chicken never disappoints. Shame my missus hates the smell when I get back🤣🤣🤣🥘

Since the change of hands and company name, the food is arriving progressively worse. Ordered a chicken Korma, which once arrived was littered with raw chicken! Some peices of chicken were even stone cold inside! Not good for anyone especially a pregnant woman! As for positives, food arrived within good time and had the normal freebie.

Worst. Not recommended for Vegetarians.

45 minutes late on delivery. Not even got the food yet but their status on the just eat app says delivered, probably to make sure their stats look good.

Well service very good and very clean restaurant. Food was tip top and myself and wife really had a good meal. Food was good value for money . I will return for a meal on my next visit to Taunton. So if you want a good meal try it out .

Regresar al día siguiente para un reembolso. Me dieron un reembolso, pero dejó la sensación de que era una verdadera prueba.Calidad de llevar el sabor era realmente mala, no tenía sabor profundo en todo sabía a que había sido rápidamente con baja calidad de sus ingredientes. We 3 of us went to dine in there a few months ago. The food was very spicy and had no taste. The naan which we had was like a rubber. Will never return.

La comida en sí es genial, una de esas personas que siempre va por un Korma, que me parece delicioso y nunca he tenido un problema con ellos. Pero mis amigos y familiares he estado con que probar otras cosas del menú también encontrar la deliciosa comida. I'm a frequent visitor at Memsaab (formally Natraj), the staff are always friendly & welcoming. The food is absolutely amazing and the selection of condiments is brilliant. The restaurant is very good & the service is great. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Somos un grupo de chicos que salir para un curry media docena de veces al año, una especie de club no oficial, si te gusta el curry a lo largo de los últimos 15 años hemos probado cada casa de curry en Taunton y la zona de los alrededores. Seguimos tratando los nuevos restaurantes indios que vienen y van en el área, pero por alguna razón seguimos regresando a la Natraj. Para ser justos, hemos construido una relación muy buena con los chicos, que apareció desde el pub el viernes por la noche, y generalmente son recibidos por Syed Ali y que han estado allí desde siempre. No podría ser de 6 a 20 de nosotros a lo largo de los años y cada vez que vamos son tratados como realeza, todos ellos se desvivía de realización de cada una de nuestras necesidades. La última vez que visitamos (unos 15 chicos) nos llenan con el personal y la comida, les dieron un par de cosas mal, pero sólo trajo más comida en la casa hasta que estuvimos contentos, absolutamente una locura! Agitar de brazos, la charla con Bangladesh, personal corriendo como era high Street de Calcuta, es fantástico! Esta es una buena casa antigua moda curry donde un grupo de amigos (chicas o chicos) puede salir y revivir la experiencia de la casa de curry de 1980. Nos encanta este lugar y el personal. Great food, fantastic fun friendly staff but soooooo let down by the smell, not sure if it was incense but there is a strong smell of cats pee when you walk in, it's only in he reception area but it's quite off putting!!!

Stopped here late Friday night with a few work mates in our 'dinner break'. Poppadoms with 7 different dips immediately bought to the table. The staff were in great spirits and constantly having a joke with us which always makes the night go better. Food was great, and plenty of it. Will definitely be returning.

I had not been to the Natraj for over 15 years, it used to be a family favourite but for numerous reasons it had slipped off my radar. Upon visiting a couple of weeks ago I was greeted with genuine bonhomie and made to feel very special. The manager remembered that I like lamb dishes, medium hot, but very spicey and said that he would create a special dish. What came was an amazing lamb shank, beautifully seasoned and totally delicious. Great food, huge portions and lovely service - I have had two takeaways since which were equally as good. Fantastic value for money and highly recommended.

First time to this restaurant and I will definitely be returning. Not only did you make me and my friends feel extremely welcome but the food was just divine. Everybody was so impressed that a review was definitely needed!! Thank you again and see you again soon.

Tacky appearance upon arrival. i.e decor and staff appearance....bit like going back to 1980. Food was average, lamb obviously hadnt been marinated just thrown in the pot at the last minute - lacking depth of taste etc. It was clean, just very male orientated in attitude. Didn't like the way they pushed drinks on you before you had really even sat down.

Food was incredible, beautiful levels of flavour, large portions and brilliant value, service with a smile and very welcoming.

This is a good Indian, eaten in the restaurant a couple of times but mostly for a take out, easy order over the phone, always ask if you want any extras say no as you get them anyway, always have free popadoms and Bombay potatoes, nice people and good food, pick up if you can as you get 20% off on collections

Having not been here for a while,decided to try it again.There is quite a lot of competition for Indian restaurants in Taunton.The Natraj seemed to had a lick of paint,since last time I was there.As memory serves,like before the food was of a reasonable standard,without being outstanding,drinks as seems to be the norm a little bit on the dear side,but although the service was pleasant it seemed to be forced.This is quite a decent place to eat,and I would go back and enjoy a reasonable standard meal,but it doesn't stand out from the crowd anymore.

Nice food, reasonably priced, friendly service ....... Not much more I can say! Food seemed a little slow coming out but maybe they were busier than expected.

I asked for a very mild chicken dish and expected a bland creamy something. We delighted when the tastiest and clearly freshly cooked plate arrived that really tasted exceptional. Very reasonably priced, two of us ate for £20. Excellent service. My second time here and definitely not the last

Didn't book for a Saturday night but they were very accommodating and found us a good table. The service was perfect and the food excellent. We were pleasantly surprised by the bill at the end of the evening, excellent value.

Just the best Indian in Somerset. All the staff are wonderful & the food is amazing. Tonight's meal totally chosen by the manager & a totally new experience. Beautiful meal, well prepared & fast especially given it was not on the menu.A must visit restaurant.

We started with the poppadums and the pickle tray which was possibly one of the best I’ve had. About 8 dishes, lovely hot lime pickle ….. and the mango chutney was thick and rich ….very satisfying.Our main courses were generous and tasty; maybe a bit more fresh chilli in my Madras wouldn’t have gone amiss to kick it up a notch or two. The staff were courteous and polite, and the value for money is really good. It’s my ‘go-to’ Indian restaurant in Taunton.

Been here quite a few times but had recently been eating elsewhere as I thought the standard had dropped. Am pleased to report that going on the food and service my friends and I received this week this place is back on form. All the dishes were great with a special nod to the lamb shanks, breads great, sides great. I'm happy this place seems back, hope it continues.

I came here midweek and had no problem getting a table. The waiter was very helpful and brought exactly what I asked for. No menus required. The lamb curry was excellent as was the house special rice. Two free onion bahgees was a nice touch. The Peshwari naan was a bit average though

The restaurant is in need of some decor, but really it needs Professional updating. It really makes all the difference. Even makes the food taste better. The initial entrance and sitting in the small bar area it smelled damp and made the restaurant feel dirty.The food was average, didn't have to wait long. The cost was average. AlthoughThe soda water and wine was flat when I mentioned this I was given another actually not a new one, no they just topped with more soda water ... Flat!!Would I return ... Not when there is more up market Indian restaurants costing the same.

I waited 50 minutes for a table i had already booked as well as that, the waiters were extremely rude from the minute we walked in. I will not be spending a penny in there again.

20% discount is offered for take away meals but the standard is absolutely on par with the restaurant service. Friendly and welcoming staff and efficient service. Highly recommended and well worth a visit.

First time we went the food was very nice and service was ok/good. Second time we went, the "waiter" was just plain rude! After asking if we could have a couple more minutes to decide we were "told" what we should have, I said no I think my girlfriend needs a couple more minutes thanks. He just stood over us with pen and paper huffing and then walked off muttering pretty loudly! When we decided he was again rude in an "about time" kind of way. We were 5 minutes! I think he was actually in charge!!! The gentleman under him was very nice. Shame really as they will no longer get a penny more from us :) Avoid!

Where do I start with this place. We love it at the natraj. The food is fantastic. The guys are brilliant. It's worth going for the poppadoms and dips alone. All the dishes are cooked fantastically. We are regulars and are never dissapointed

The waiting staff were very friendly and accomodating to my request of small portions. I was on my own but they made sure that I was comfortable and that I had what I wanted.The food was good too.

Food was alright, the host was funny, the atmosphere was 'standard'.

This is only the third 1 out of 5 I've ever given so a bad mark is, for me, an unfortunate rarity. Plus - contrast it with the 5 out of 5 meal I had the following night. I have no doubt that a 'comment below' review from someone who's never posted a review before and who's definitely not related to any of the staff or owners may appear a few days after this. Or perhaps the management may apologise in their right to respond or refute what I say. But since I was dining with 3 colleagues who all agree that it was one of the poorest meals they've had as well I can back up what I say.The poor marks are as a result of two things. Truly one of the worst dishes I've ever had in a restaurant in the UK and the price of their drinks (or possibly an error that they refused to acknowledge or even tried to rip us off).The welcome when we arrived was good. Friendly and efficient service in the main. The poppadoms with a very interesting range of dips, sauces and pickles etc - a veritable rainbow of colours and creative use of food colouring - was quite promising. you can always judge a good restaurant by simple things and with Indian restaurants that's their onion bhajees. These were quite good, a tiny bit floury and not cooked through fully in the middle but (to my palate) the right balance of crisp outside and moist inside.All good so far. We were initially amused by shouting from the kitchen - jokes about chefs with machetes etc! The waiting staff assured us that it wasn't an argument and it was nothing to worry about. Thankfully it didn't go on for more than a couple of minutes but the waiter who was trying to convince us it was nothing wasn't that convincing!The main courses arrived. All four of us left our meals and all for different reasons. My lamb jalfrezi didn't resemble any of the flavours of a jalfrezi and the lamb was revolting - gristly, chewy and fatty. The worst quality meat I can ever imagine a restaurant serving. Other dishes had problems with their flavours - one for example was far too bitter - too much chilli powder most likely. All meals barely eaten. Rather than make a fuss, we thought we'd get the bill and go. Put it down to a bad day in the kitchen. After all, there are plenty of good reviews for this restaurant. The bill arrived and I questioned the drinks bill. Admittedly we hadn't checked the drinks prices before we ordered but a 'high street' Indian restaurant in Taunton is not somewhere I would expect anything other than 'normal' drinks prices. We had 3 doubles with small mixers and three bottles of Tiger beer - £40.20. Extortionate. It works out that they must have been charging £7-8 for doubles. I repeat it - extortionate.If it wasn't extortionate then perhaps they made a mistake. However they insisted that they hadn't. Maybe they were trying something on? Who knows? My colleagues included two qualified chefs and a bar owner - so we know what we're talking about with drinks prices in Taunton and food quality.Maybe it was just a bad night in the kitchen and maybe their drinks prices really are higher than the four star, two rosette hotel in the centre of town! Won't be going anywhere neat there again.

i must thank unreservedly the kind staff of this establishment. my fellow travellers and i enjoyed a splendid evenings hospitality here after a long drive from viewing a rugby match in south wales.1 egg nann, 1 peshwari naan, 1 garlic naan, 1 chiapati, 1 tandoori chicken starter, 1 indian hamburger with fried egg thereupon, 2 boiled rice, 1 pilau rice, 1 house special chicken mali wali, 1 prawn madras, 1 vegetable madras, 1 kingfisher, 1 bengali beer. one complimentary alooooooooo gobi potato dish. 1 insightful conversation as to the matching of authentic indian bangladeshi cuisine with fine locally sourced somerset citherses. all in all a superlative experience. i am led to believe there are other curry houses in taunton. save yourself the time look no further than the natraj.

Visited here with family and was disappointed with the quality of food and service. The whole evening was a total disappointment. I ordered a special shashlic and what was brought out was a poor representation. No sizzling dish and no prawns or other meats. The waiter tipped my wine over (by accident) but didn't offer me another glass to replace it. Had to order another bottle at £26 a pop which was irritating to say the least. The other curries we ordered were brown, boring and uninteresting. Have come here many times in the past but won't be going back unfortunately.

The second of two Indian restaurants visited for dinner during my brief stay in Taunton. Like the first one, this place was empty too (a Tuesday night). However, service was efficient, polite and friendly (once the waiter had ditched his chewing gum). Slight disappointment in the food, which while perfectly adequate, wasn't especially memorable. Very reasonable price, however, but would probably go back to the other restaurant if pushed to decide.

I had a group meal with some friends. The restaurant were very happy to squeeze in an extra seat for us beyond our booking, despite being really busy. Order was taken very efficiently and food arrived in good time (amidst the pre-Christmas parties). Quality was excellent and Amir was very good in helping those who didn't really know what to order. We were also given some complimentary dishes, which was lovely.Overall, very nice evening at a really good restaurant. I've been eating here for 27 years and the food is consistently very good. Though we've not yet eaten in the restaurant yet, the two takaways we've had have been really good. Would definitely recommend the chicken dishes. We popped in for only a naan to take away tonight as we had leftovers from a meal the night before and they let us have it on the house with a bunch of poppadoms! Great place.

The food was fantastic in this restaurant. Obviously very popular. I know it was a Saturday night but we waited an hour for our main course and most of the waiters (we had one nice waiter) were impatient (whether this was because we aren't regular customers and they were busy, I don't know). Would still go back as the food was really good but waiters need to brush up on customer service attitude.

We went here on our anniversary, absolutely amazing quality in food and service. the only downside was that the hot tap in the men's was not working at that time. and possibly the rowdy customer "celebrating" his 21st Birthday insisting on whistling loudly, but the waiters soon put an end to his boisterous behaviour and everyone in the establishment could then continue to enjoy the meals. I can't wait to go here again, the drinks are fantastic, I can't help but recommend this 10 out of 5 stars, 150%! enjoy. oh and for those that are unsure, children are very welcome in the restaurant, so long as they are behaved ;)

A really good Indian restaurant in Taunton that always produces great food and good service.There are so many Indian restaurants in Taunton food and service gas to be good to get people coming back and these guys tick both boxes.

I have been here many times, both on a Friday night with "the lads" and with Friends as couples.Whatever the reason for my visit, the staff are always excellent. the owner is often around and willing to have a chat. As for the food it is very good and the best thing is the flexibility. If you often find yourself ordering the same thing at an Indian Restaurant, you can tell them what that is and they will cook you up something similar but with a twist to the usual. Really good.Highly recommended

We have eaten here and found it brilliant . So good is the food id recommend it too everyone. The service was very good. Staff lovely although the owner never acknowledged us. The restaurant is worth a visit and every penny.

great food here, good value for money, I was so happy we found this restaurant as many other Taunton indians try charging you over the top for you lager, this place had Cobra on tap at around £3.50 a pint, the food was superb, the head waiter was very good, we had a complimentary dish and the food was of a good portion, in Taunton you can get overcharged for food and drink in the latest contemporary newer restaurants that have recently opened but this restaurant is one of the best value for money.

Had the best curry ever here. And the gent that served us was soo nice! They really looked after us by helping us pick the most tasty dishes, bought out some extra food for us (free of charge) and kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed.Really amazing food, amazing service - would highly recommend this restaurant to others who are in the area.

What else is there to say? We have used Natraj for a number of years and the standards have always been first class. Whether eating in or taking away, the food has always been excellent and the service attentive. The new decor adds favourably to the experience. Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in the area and well worth visiting if you've not already tried it. Very highly recommended!

I have eaten here many times. So good is the food I am frequently left disappointed if I order curry anywhere else. Tikka Dansak is very good, spicier than elsewhere but one of my favourites. The specials page is more expensive at around a tenner but I highly recommend the Sali Chicken - it is worth every penny. I have also had the Dumka. It is not on the menu, but if it is offered / available and you like a spicy sauce with a fair amount of heat on a massive chunk of chicken breast, order it! I have seen a few reviews disappointed with the pre-refurb decor; they have re-decorated since. Thankfully, they haven't gone down the cold contemporary minimalistic look of other curry outlets, simply an updated take on the traditional curry house style still with plenty of atmosphere. They also have a new menu with a couple of nice additions.To be honest, I find it difficult to stay away from the place.
