Railway Street Fisheries in East Riding of Yorkshire

In our opinion, this is easily the best chippy in town. The food is excellent, the staff are friendly, it's one of our favourite places in Pocklington. Fantastic.

Our first visit and very impressed! Gorgeous fish and chips and big portions. Would recommend the ‘whaler’ large cod fish that we shared between two. Our boys loved the fish bites too. Lovely friendly staff with good banter. Highly recommend and will visit again when we’re back in the area.

Was attending a concert at the Arts Centre. Had looked on line earlier for places to eat pre concert. Found this fish and chip take away and cafe which had excellent reviews. Wasn’t disappointed, lovely staff, excellent service and huge portions! Amazing fish and chips and superb value for money. Nice big cup of tea too!

Fish was good, chips tasted dry like they'd been cooked and kept warm. Claims to be the best fish and chips in Yorkshire may be an exaggeration.

We come to this chippy regularly and have brought family and friends as we like it so much. Friendly staff and delicious food. What more do you want?!

We were on holiday in the area and fancied some fish and chips. This venue did not disappoint,all freshly prepared and cooked with batter to die for light crispy and did not detract from the taste of the fish. Both the haddock and plaice were first class. Well worth a visit

I had a truly amazing fresh, tender piece of cod here. And they don’t go overboard with the batter like most chippies do. I would absolutely return here. Yum, yum, yum. Pity they don’t have cod roe on the menu though.

Exquisite. Really great. Cooked to order. Served hot. Super crisp tempura quality batter. Cooked in sustainable palm oil. Mush peas actually hot. Fish and chips at their best.

I rarely get to visit chip shops up north but they are always a great treat. The haddock was amazing my cheesy chips were perfectly cooked and everyone in the party agreed the portions were hugely generous. We dined as kings. I regret not getting a bag of scraps.

We all went as a family today at Pocklington Fisheries today. With it being raining today we dined in, I had Battered jumbo sausage and chips and I haven't tasted some wonderful food like this for a long time, the chips was nice and dry that I like personally and I never had such a nice tasting sausage before, cooked to perfection indeed 😊 we all will visit here very soon 🙏🔜

Really lovely fish and chips. I bought the munch box for £25 and was so pleasantly surprised at both the value and quantity for the money. The quality was good too. Highly recommend. Also, that spicy curry sauce- Yum!

I'm visiting friends in York (I'm from London)and for a treat on Friday we decided to have fish and chips.. we have had fish and chips from here before.whwn we got to the shop at Friday lunch time (05/01/24) the gentleman behind the counter informed us that our order would be about 10 minutes as he had just taken a big order ( about 15 orders for a company) that was fine.. there are chairs to sit on while you wait. Once our order was ready he let ups know .this chip shop also offers a dining in option. The fish and chips are a good size..I always end up halfing my portion and having fish and chips for lunch and dinner ...a good fish and chip restaurant

Been here a few times and had Fish and chips. Each time it’s been very poor. Soggy and greasy fish that is then put on top of chips so all the batter falls off. Cold chips with boiling ones so some have been left too long. Overall not worth the money

Had the small fish and chips. Good portion, plenty of it. Chips hot crisp and fresh. Fish batter excellent, nice and crispy.

Fish very good, but sadly chips were incredibly dry this evening. They had clearly been sat for a very long time.. Some were so sharp they hurt the mouth. Such a shame as normally fab. Will be boycotting for a while.

Excellent fish & chips but the peas are unfortunately very bland. Sort the peas out and it's 5 stars from me.

Always very happy with our choices from Andy and the team at Railway Street Fisheries! The fish is always beautifully cooked with nice crisp batter! Chips are great too! I sometimes choose the spam fritter instead which is a delicious treat! They do takeaway but there are also some tables and chairs inside their recently decorated seating area, so we usually sit in and have a big mug of tea too! Very pleased to see that they won an award in a recent competition too! Well done :)

Had the best fish and chips for lunch. Really tasty and very good value for money. The staff were warm and welcoming and the chippy, with its eat in area, was spotlessly clean.

I phoned up to place order and was spoken to very abruptly by the owner I won't be taking my custome the ever again stuarts from now on

We visited pocklington village whilst staying at the nearby country park and decided we wanted fish and chips we arrived here at 1.10pm and although they closed at 1.30pm the owner kindly stayed open Cooked us fish and chips and still let us sit in to eat them, the fish was to die for and the portion sizes were incredible one of the best fish we have had thank you again from the ladies from Middlesbrough.

Went for our tea tonight as we fancied some fish and chips, and are we glad we did, one of the best fish and chips i have had in a long time! Fish cooked to order and so fresh and tasty, chips had loads of flavour and mushy peas were just right. Ignore the photo as i just chucked it on the plate but not a scrap was left it was that good!! Not greasy at all like some places. When we are next in the area we will be back 100% Good luck in the fish and chip awards i have voted for you thats for sure👍👍

Good job the batter was tasty... Fish tasted watery, possiblity of it being frozen. Think I'll be going back to Stuart's in Pocklington in the future

Fish and chips cooked fresh , eat in or takeout, very reasonably prices, We are only visitors to pocklington, but we have been a number of times and always call in for fish and chips , The taste and quality has never faded like some do , look no further, call in and try them you will love them P. I have lived in Pocklington for 19 years. I visited another chippy here when i moved which was awful. It has taken me 19 years to find the confidence to try again. This chippy is absolutely amazing! Fresh, tasty & one of the best fish n chips i have ever had. I have actually been twice in the past two weeks it is so good. They are also very friendly. You must visit!! They also do a small fish & chips which is excellent value

Thursday 6pm. Waited such a long time for 2 fish and chips. Yes the was other customers but felt wait time was excessive. Took food home Disappointed pale soft mushy chips not the best. Not sure I'll go again to expensive to be given poorly cooked chips fish was okay but overall disappointed

Bought cod & chips from here Friday 30th pm. My 16 yr old son has been horribly sick all night & morning. Very disappointing & cost him a cricket match and a day in bed ill.

Oh dear tried the railway fisheries about 3 weeks ago after about 3 years re Covid etc. It was delicious. So thought we would have fish and chips for our coronation tea. Wrong move. The haddock was perfectly cooked to order but I don't know how long the chips had been keeping warm because when we arrived home they were almost cold. What a disappointment. So sorry but won't be going back. D

Visited 4 April 2023, Excellent friendly service, good choice on the menu. I had skate which I haven't seen or had in years and the cook took the time to explain how it was best enjoyed. We ordered alot of food for a large greedy, extended family and it was all cooked perfectly, light crispy batter on the fish, juicy burgers, and the portion size of the chips were even too much for us!!! Needless to say I would recommend to anyone who appreciates a good honest chippy! Thanks guys 👍

My partner and I had fish and chips from here tonight, absolutely delicious with generous portions and lovely banter with the delightful staff, so refreshing after our recent unpleasant experience with a 'racid fat' smelling establishment.

What an amazing fish shop, great haddock with crispy batter, fresh chips and got myself a bargain with a April 1st offer for£4.50! Probably best fish and chips we have had in years!! Highly recommend

Not used this for couple of years, much improved, great fish and chips, will be back.

Expensive for the small portion we received, probably not helped by the person in charge telling the young girl serving, to go easy on the portions! Food tasted ok, the bread bun was caked in margarine and just fell apart and they missed they scraps off the order that we specifically asked for. The first time trying the place and probably won't go back unfortunately.

It's a great place to stop when you can not be arsed to cook , great fish 10 out of 10 , loads of scraps with me chips winner .

Got 2 bags of chips to takeaway. They were clearly reheated, soggy, dark, miserable. Just put some fresh ones in. Please remove the best chippy in Yorkshire sign from outside your shop, it's clearly not true. Won't be back.

Best chip shop in Pock, in my opinion. All new ranges fitted, layout a lot more customer friendly. Eat in or out option, but plenty of seats in town to eat out.

Ordered 2 fish, Large chips, sausage, spam and 2 lge sides of curry and peas. Omg I couldn't believe what I was served £6.65 for a fish smaller than my hand, absolutely tasteless. Peas were so watery it was like soup and couldn't put it on my food. You should be ashamed of yourself!!!! Fish dryer behind the counter was eating food and not washing his hands before touching peoples fish. Has to be the worst one of each I have ever been served

Best fish and chips I've had in a long time! Visited whilst on holiday and it did not disappoint! Tried the fish and chips, cooked to perfection, not greasy and fish flaked beautifully. Tried the mushy peas as I'm generally a bit fusdy with peas and was gutted I'd only ordered the small, when we returned I made sure to definitely order the large! Staff friendly and pricing really good value, would definitely recommend to others and return again! Many thanks to the team!!
