Not much to look at from the outside but once you get inside this is a great place to dine in and take away. The food options are great and there is availability for meat and vegetarian. The portions are incredible in relation to the price. The poppadoms are so filling and the Masala toppings are delicious. Will definitely be keeping this one on the list for every time we are in the Birmingham area.

Really disappointed! In fact for what we paid it was one of the worst takeaway currys we've he had in a long time! I had chicken and mushroom balti. The portion was small for £9.50 and managed to find 2 tiny pieces of mushroom! Flavour wise it was just ok. My husband had chicken rogan josh which again was a small portion and lacked flavour, very bland. Rice was dull in flavour. Chips were dry and old tasting. Garlic nan lacked garlic. For £36 we were left feeling cheated! Never again!

We have been coming to the railway for years. Since the refurbishment there has been a drastic change. The new staff are so unorganised, after waiting a while they bought over someone else’s order. Service was very slow considering there was hardly anyone in the pub on a Monday night. The food was below average everything tasted the same. Manager at the time was not helpful. Definitely won’t be returning. This was a joint birthday celebration ruined. Very disappointed!

Firstly , the manager thinks he is some sort of gangsta , you aren't mate so drop it , secondly you get ripped off , the portions are TINY, the nanns are TINY , the rice portion is TINY, you are paying full price for basically half of everything, the balti dish is the smallest I have ever seen ,ever, half the size of a normal balti dish , the place is noisy and a bit chavvy , lots of chavs smoking outside the front door.....the carpark is tiny, it's the only desi pub I've left still feeling hungry. Unsupervised kids running about all over the place , but worse was the table with three blokes on it loudly swearing , there was a table with a young family on nearby and you could tell the swearing from the men was a problem, wanna be gangsta gaffer walked past them enough times but said NOTHING....The ditzy barmaids behind the bar attitudes stink ,they look like they don't want to be there and show it, service is slow , to be honest this place has nothing going for it , I've been to most desi pubs around here but this is one we won't be going back to.

Did not book a table, but we were given a table and asked to vacate by 5.30 pm, which was not a problem as it was just the two of us. Ordered our drinks at the bar, then went to sit down to browse the menu. Went back up to the bar to order our food. Not much of a wait for our food to arrive - plenty of meat in the lamb bhuna but not much chicken pieces in my chicken tikka massala. Everything was hot and enjoyable, and we will visit again.

Nice little pub located right opposite the train station and with a small carpark at the rear. Been in a few times for a drink or two, but went this time for food. Have to say this place was recommended very highly, and didn't reach anywhere near the heights that were promised. The largest mixed grill was mostly loaded with chicken, and some of the stuff had the texture of reheated leftovers. One of the issues with going there too early in the day perhaps. Some of the food was nice, I was definitely a fan of the battered masala chips. I was served a Kingfisher beer in a Stella glass which isn't that big an issue, but it does point toward how laid back it is there. Prices are reasonable though.

MORE AT Google

As a regular desi pub customer, we decided to try somewhere new other than one of our other several desi places. Our uncle had a lamb dhansak, and me and the wife had a “large mixed grill”. The dhansak apparently was very good, and the mix grill was also lovely, and I’d like to say that the wings and chicken on the mixed grill was probably the best we’ve had in a very long time, melt in your mouth , and with plenty flavour. But then comes the bit where you have to go up the bar, which is not great, 2 pints of cobra, and a lime soda is over a tenner. When I asked how come it was that much, she went through the prices and a lime/soda was £1,75 😀😀😀 in all the pubs I’ve been too, including London, I’ve never paid more than a pound £1, I said to her “it’s only water and lime cordial, are you sure that’s right” but she just answered abruptly, that’s how much it is. And that was it. Lime cordial and water. £1.75…😀 it’s just not right. The girl behind the bar seems rude, but I don’t think she is, I think she’s just abrupt, (some people are) . We’re going to make another visit, but we’ll just ask for water and 2 glasses, I don’t risk drink driving, that’s why I don’t drink beer, so I don’t really want to spend more than a quid on a soda/lime. If it wasn’t for the bar experience it would have hit the 5*, but I’m afraid the bar killed it for us😏, inside the bar is very cosy, and warm. And very well set out, a 3 star could’ve been a 5. With a few tiny improvements.

This place is good but could be much better with little effort, like listening to the customer. The food was very good, 90% of it was, 1 of us had lamb dhansak and apparently it was very nice, we had the large mix grill, which was also very good, but there’s 1 thing that really got me down was the ridiculous rice of drinks, this is where the bill goes up. Me and my wife don’t drink when having a midweek curry, so we have lime/soda, usually a pint of, this can cost anywhere between 30p and a quid. In this place it’s £1.75. So this will stop us using it regularly, or we’ll just drink water. Basically food very tasty, and reasonably priced, but a lime cordial with soda water will set you back nearly £2. Shame, we were going to be regulars.

Took a quick visit here whilst waiting to be picked up from the train station. Have been recommended to go and eat here for years so thought it would be worth a try. Ordered a fried rice and a butter chicken for takeaway. I was looking forward to it as I hadn’t had anything at all to eat all day. Was told 30-40 minutes but the food was ready in 20 minutes. Got home and plated up. Did think the rice was a bit on the sticky side but thought nothing of it as I’d never ordered fried rice before (usually a pilau rice person). Anyway, I ate my food and went to bed. 2am, I’m up with sweats and in excruciating pain. Spent the next hour on the floor in the bathroom. Didn’t think anything of it and thought maybe I’d just had a bit of a bad tummy. Roll on the next day, I love having my leftover takeaway for lunch. Went to plate it up and as I opened the rice, it stunk of bin… for a moment I thought I was imagining the smell. So untouched it. Was like playing with kids slime! Left it on the side so my mom could check just to see if I’d lost my mind and she binned it straight away. Can’t have been fresh rice. It’s really unfortunate because I’ve only ever heard amazing things but this is enough to stop me going again.

This is a great spot for groups to catch-up over tasty food and especially those into their sports. Big screens everywhere for you to view specific sports matches - cricket on the day we went. Was busy as soon as we got there but our table was ready for us, as we had prebooked. Great mix of clientele (families, lads, sports enthusiasts, elderly, young etc) We went to the bar to make our order, paid and sat down. We had to wait nearly 45 minutes for our food to come out! Quite a long wait considering we didn't ask for anything special apart from mild pakora and everything else was standard off the menu. Hence the one less star on service. Though maybe a sign that the food was that much more freshly prepared? Or there was not enough kitchen staff? Either way that was our biggest peeve, once the food arrived, there were no issues, super tasty, well cooked, to the level of spice/heat ordered and pretty much polished off. Just a little doggy bag for 2 to take away for a small lunch. Lamb special was AMAZING - tasted like a home cooked meal! Chilli battered chips (wet) preferred over masala battered chips (dry) but that was just our opinion (they were still both nice!) 1 other mention.... Which we debated about at the time.... The butter chicken for me was quite sweet and more like a very red korma - on the flip side my brother loved it and it was how he liked/expected it (plus he was the one who ordered it). Also to mention they have a few varieties of cocktails/mocktails available too which I thought was a nice touch! I would recommend, and would come back to this place but maybe in a smaller group or at least later on in the day when there's probably more help in the kitchen so there's not so much of a wait on the food. Oh and one more thing the car park is very small and tight! Can get roughly 10 cars in the back which is where we squeezed in. Have seen other reviews of other areas available to park if needed. Thanks guys - we enjoyed our meal!

Went with my friend, who lives locally, after she recommended it, on a Friday evening. The place was very busy and loud with conversation, so just off the bat, this is not a venue for an intimate and quiet South Asian dinner, at least not on a Friday evening. The menu was concise with a large selection of dishes. We both ordered the chef's lamb special with garlic naan and mushroom rice. The food arrived within 10-15 minutes. I was blown away by how delicious it was. The lamb was well cooked and boneless, spiced to perfection (I ordered spicy, my friend, medium). Many places over-salt their dishes to save on spices but not this one. A perfect balance of coriander, with hints of cardamom and ginger, and a gentle after-taste of fenugreek and cumin. The lamb was cooked in a sauce that was thick and with a consistency that hugged the meat in place. The sauce was a bit oily but this is to be expected when ordering lamb. If you want something less fatty, stick to chicken. This complimented the garlic naan perfectly. The rice was well cooked but not overdone and soaked up the remaining sauce. The place was bustling and the staff obviously had a lot on their hands but they were attentive and friendly. We decided to try their desserts. I ordered the toffee ice cream and my friend the midnight mint ice cream. Well served and it finished off a thoroughly pleasant meal. The combination of good service, delicious food, and a very well priced menu guarantees I'll be visiting this venue again when I am in the area. Well done Railway Inn.

Visited on a Friday late afternoon as food recommended,, quite busy and found the pub a bit rough and ready. Don’t know if they have staff problems but waiting ages to get served. Food was ok but you get hammered for the drink prices . Don’t think I’ll be rushing back.

Good food and good beer. Can get really busy and rowdy though, more of a pub than a grill but the food is top notch.

We went there for my cousins birthday and was really impressed. The food was amazing and the staff was very courteous. They cater for veg and non veg.

Great pub! Lovely food, brilliant service and lovely staff. Perfect timing from ordering to getting served our food. Staff checked up on us during our meal which was nice. Will definitely go back

Flood was pretty good and tasty and service not bad but it's full of TVs, loud drinkers and generally not a great atmosphere to eat in. Shame as the food deserved better.

Very tasty food. Had the mixed grill, butter chicken and the saag chicken. Food was very nice, however the butter chicken was a bit too sweet for my liking and there is too much food colouring used on the mixed grill, however it tasted great which is the main thing! Another negative aspect, is the fact you have to pay for poppadoms and onions that come with it, as most restaurants don’t charge for this, come to think of it, the price of the food was quite pricey too.

This is the most brilliant place to eat. The food is amazing all freshly cooked and fresh produce. Had the biggest Christmas dinner I have ever eaten. The landlord is the most amazing chef and host. Lovely staff. Lovely atmosphere.

We enjoyed a lovely Christmas meal at The Dog with our friend. There was a varied selection on the Christmas menu to choose from with something to suit most tastes. To start, two of us choose the very tasty parsnip soup while the other had the prawn cocktail. For the main I had the vegetarian spinach and mushroom wellington and the others choose the turkey. The portions were generous but we all cleared our plates as everything tasted superb. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the desserts as we were too full!

The restaurant inside has a very chilled ambiance which is perfect for a relaxing hot drink and meal. Their Hot Chocolate is the best in the area and you can taste its quality. Also they have very extensive opening hours which is an added convenience factor. Food is superb and it’s a pity there are not more Tim Horton’s branches in the UK.
