Disappointing. The food was served cold, and despite the restaurant being empty when we arrived, it was challenging to get the attention of a staff member. We paid for our meals, even though they were only half-eaten, and mentioned the issue to the staff. However, the response we received from the bartender was, “You should have just said something.” Unfortunately, we would have if we had been able to find someone sooner. By the time we managed to speak to a server—who was attending to a table next to us who had arrived—about 10 minutes had already passed, and we had decided to just eat the food because we didn’t want it to get even colder. It would have been helpful if the staff were more attentive and regularly checked in on customers rather than responding with passive-aggressive remarks when concerns were raised. After looking at other reviews, I noticed that cold food seems to be a recurring issue. To make matters worse, the meal tasted like it had been reheated leftovers from the previous day. Don’t think I’ll be back here.

We came on a Friday lunchtime and it was steady but not busy. Got served straight away at the bar by really friendly staff...I personally recommend the Raspberry Ripple cider. Found seats and got menus...really extensive interesting menu and wish we had been hungrier to sample the starters and desserts. Very prompt service ... I had lamp in mint gravy pie and my friend had pie of the week which was chicken bacon and Stilton....they arrived piping hot and full of meat and flavour...we both struggled to finish just due to the amount of food. Staff were attentive and friendly, checked if we wanted dessert when clearing table and always chatty at bar when ordering more drinks. Will definitely come again when visiting the area and make sure I'm hungrier to sample more of the menu. Highly recommend if in Tipton area

So, After hearing the Desperate Dan Pie Challenge was still a thing (Used to be at a local bar the Pudding Inn back in the 1990 hahaha) I jumped in a train and headed to Tipton, The Food and Service were great, The Pie and Local beer (Sledgehammer) for less than £20!!! I for a certificate and the bar team even took a picture for me with The big Dan! The chef was proud of his work and it’s great when they take time to say hi!!! Awesome Guys 🙏🙏

Lunchtime fish and chips for me, fish was nice and hot, batter was soggy and not at all crispy so I peeled it off and ate the fish. The chips was mostly bits , cold and hard, no batter on them either. My daughter had the chicken skewered kebab with chips. Skewered kebab was nice, tasty and very filling, her chips were like mine, more hard bits than chips, cold, and no batter on them. Her cutlery was dirty, her fork looked as though it hadn't gone through a wash. As a family we have been many times for meals and have done so in the last couple of weeks, although its usually in the evening. Todays lunch was expensive and not very nice at all. I did notice a customer on another table send her cold pie and chips back. I shall avoid lunchtime meals there from now on.

Scrumptious pies and worth the visit to try them all. The menu is a fun twist on names! We went during the Christmas period. It was so busy, the staff were clearly struggling bless them. It was a 45-50 minute wait for our order which was frustrating but we made the waitresses aware and our food was bought out instantly! The tables and chairs are crammed here and we’re not designed for 5 people, my dad’s drink ended up flying over and well it would have been nice if the place offered a replacement….. otherwise brilliant crunch chips and the lamb pie is gorgeous! 4 stars, it would have been 5 if service was better….

We went for my partner's birthday. The food was ok. I had pulled pork pie. The pork was overcooked and tough. It tasted ok though. Chips were fluffy on the inside crispy on the outside. One lady at the bar was lovely (she had black/dark hair) but whilst she was trying to serve me a tall blond girl came over and tried to start a conversation about personal things. Maybe a talk with staff about professionalism and customer service would be a good idea as I found it quite rude as she interrupted my talking to the other lady. Three members of our party put a food order in upon arrival and either one of the staff members lost the ticket or it was not taken to the kitchen. Regardless, they paid and the kitchen didn't receive their order. They had to ask for a refund in the end as they'd waited so long everyone else had finished. There wasn't enough seating reserved for our large party either. There was 15 of us and barely seating for 12! Thankfully 4 were children as we definitely wouldn't fit 12 adults in the seating provided. Thankfully, a small group on the table next to us offered to move. They didn't offer to help with a highchair, just vaguely informed us where they were stored and expected to get one through a closed off door ourselves. I hate to think of a single parent struggling in this situation. I have disabilities and although not visible I struggled to get the cheap IKEA highchair half out of the door before my partner rushed to help. No staff offered help at any time. The highchair tray kept popping down so my baby lost her food 3 times! Toilets were freezing cold due to being outside the pub so I was unable to change my 6 month old baby. Toilets weren't very clean either,. The hook to hold coats/bags on the cubicle door was hanging half off, toilets were left unflushed and left you wanting to just get it over with. I know you don't usually want to spend long in there anyway but warmth and basic cleanliness is a must in any public toilet. I didn't even want to try the disabled/changing room as it was left disgusting with paper on the floor and stinking of pee. I understand this is a "historic building" but surely a door over the entrance to the toilets area could be afforded as I'm sure no one appreciates a cold toilet, especially disabled people. The cold affects a lot of disabilities. Lastly, phoning up to book in the first place. Barely anyone answering phones. For somewhere with a "good reputation" you'd expect to have someone in charge of just bookings/phones. We had to ring so much I lost track how many times. When I finally got through they hung up on me. This happened twice before I managed to book. If it wasn't for my partner's family recommending the place I would have booked elsewhere.

However, not enough staff at the bar, three staff members decided to eat behind a post near the bar instead of using their own staff room when there was more staff obviously needed. I’ve come here so many times over the last 10 years but in the last year the service has gotten awful. Food is still lovely but staff aren’t doing their jobs. You’re left for 30 mins when you first get seated no drinks even though you’re told it’s table service, it’s alot faster to get up and go to the bar yourself. Waitresses are stood in groups of 3/4/5 chatting around the bar or where you come to be seated. You’re not asked if you want sauces/dessert or more drinks you’re just left there until you get up and find someone yourself. Just to top it off the front door was left open for half an hour while they moved the tables and chairs back after the Sunday carvery (which is fine whilst you’re doing the moving) they then left it open until another customer got up to shut it! We were freezing. Honestly it’s really put me off coming again. I’ve had birthday meals in here and always tell people to go and try it but I don’t think I will be anymore.

After visiting family we decided to try this famous pie place in Tipton near Dudley. Its an old school style pub that served an array of drinks and of course, pies! I had the lamb and mint pie that came with battered chips and was delicious with plenty of lamb. Hubby had the chicken and mushroom pie, daughter the steak pie and out son tried the Desperate Dan pie challenge. He managed to eat the 4lb steak and kidney with veg and horns pie in 13 minutes and he said he'd have it again..

Rustic, authentic venue. Great choice of pies, unfortunately I chose salmon salad which was over salted, almost too salty to eat. I also requested my dressing on the side, which was disregarded. Arrived at the pub and the staff in the pub were less than helpful. When our room was available taken up. The room was clean..the code system for the doors was very good and efficient. Stayed two nights, the room was COLD. Radiator would not get very hot. The bathroom was very small. Clean and modern, just small, tiny basin, 1 meter wide !!! The beds were two singles, the quilt covers were too small, literally cover my toes, shoulders out, cover shoulders, feet bare...IN A COLD ROOM. Overall a poor experience for an experienced traveller. A little tweaking would make this very good but as it is, I've given it a poor rating.

I've been here 7 or 8 times over the past 5 years. It had always been 5 star. Today it wasn't. Battered chips were very dry and cold. Absolutely not fresh at all. There's no excuse to be serving chips that bad. Normally your battered chips are top notch. Mushy peas also just didn't taste right. There was a very sour/off taste and smell, like something had gone off. It was 6pm and very quiet when we arrived, so maybe the chef felt they could pass off yesterday's/the afternoons food. Sort it out. Really disappointed. I'll come back again, but if it's not up to standard next time then it will be my last visit.

Cold and wet Tuesday, arrived at 5.15, asked for a table, now I don't expect a red carpet but a smile, a hello, any kind of greeting would be nice (aren't we in the Black Country supposed to be friendly??) instead I get a surly face asking if I'd booked a table, it's 5.15 guys, there's only three or four tables occupied so why not just seat us?? Then as we take our table we're told we must vacate by 7.00, I felt like, and should have vacated then, talk about being made to feel welcome? If a business survives on repeat trade I'm afraid you're going about it the wrong way. And cold!!! freezing in there, nice big fire at the end of the restaurant, might be an idea to light it, just a thought, although that would mean losing a table. Food, average, nothing to complain about apart from cold chips, saltiest gammon I've ever had and a fairly nasty pork chop so nothing to really shout about either. Honestly, you will thrive as a destination pub/restaurant on your hospitality, value for money and quality, if the owners really care they should read some of these reviews and take note... there are other places to go, which is good cos I won't be bothering with this place again.

I'm Black country born&bred- so Black country, My great, great, great, great, great grandfather was William Perry;aka. The Tipton Slasher. This was a historically accurate Black Country monument - in 25 years it's turned into a trashy, mundane tourist trap, complete with overpriced, mass produced food, zero atmosphere - do they even sell Lumphammer (that was the "little pubs" brewery signature drink) in pints or would that have to be litres too? It was wooden benches, spit& sawdust on the floor, cow pies in a 1.5 pint pudding basin filled to the brim with a hearty serving of stewed steak & kidney & gravy complete with a puff pastry lid and 2 puff pastry horns to "dip-in" (soak up any remnants of gravy- eat one and get the 2nd free. It was an eatery but still for many, a local pub with darts, dominoes and quiz team. Had the name not been at the top of the page, I wouldn't have even had recognised the place. Like London, it offers tourists an opportunity to empty their pockets and to witness first hand what the Black country absolutely was NOT. *Couldn't comment on "rooms" as this is the first I knew of their existence. **Service? What's that? Wait a minute - I do remember a lady dressed in an apron carrying steaming pies from the kitchen to the bar where rumbly tummies drank and talked ( no music as I recall) until the number on their raffle ticket was called. 💷I'm still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor where it dropped seeing the prices on the menu. ***Location: this is a museum piece and a very, very poor one at that. Hands up if you live within 20 miles and have been there within the past 25 years??? (I won't hold my breath).

*Anaemic chips, poor quality pie, with over cooked chicken and undercooked pastry accompanied by a cold gravy. staff were an imperfect balance between ignorant and arrogant.* Wholly rushed, entirely overlooked. The staff couldn’t look myself and my accompanying patrons in the eyes, ignoring our table for over 20 minutes while they ate pot noodles (boding well that the staff avoided the restaurant food). Followed by the rude staff trying to collect our dishes before we were finished. I was forced to hold my plate to resist the removal of my food half finished after telling the server we were not finished. I understand a busy service can be stressful but this was totally uncalled for. Upon arrival to the pub we ordered a drink, the server rudely asked if we were eating because we ‘must have a table immediately’. Keeping in mind the venue was empty. - often times, it is not what you say, it is how you say it. If the evening was heavily booked a little advice of this would go a long way and we would book accordingly. Self described world’s best pie… unlikely! 🤢🥶 I have never left a review prior to this, I believe positive feedback is best provided directly and negative comments/reviews are unproductive online or otherwise. I was left feeling genuinely awful and with a sense of anxiety over the food consumed. Wholly summed up as arrogantly ignorant, seasoned with a vindictive service with major lack of quality to back it up. Welcome to Wolverhampton… Not to mention the rooms were advertised as en suite only to find a communal shower and toilet. The TV did not work and rooms were characterless and bland meanwhile advised as fun and quirky. Everyone’s experience is different and this demonstrates how poor staff can be responsible for ruining potentially great establishments.

Did stay so cant comment on the rooms Had the lamb and mint pie which was really quite big and soooo tasty. Very filling the gravy inside pie was lush, there didn't seem to be many chips in the little basket but there was more than enough . Was more than a little bit disappointed in the puddings , we had a share platter says it would suit 3 people gosh wouldn't even feed 3 toddlers . It looked like they had gone in a supermarket and brought packs of tiny doughnuts, Brownies, , wavers choclate sauce , I'm sure it wouldn't of cost more than a pound to put together and they charged over £10 for it ! Shocking valve and disappointing after such a lovely main meal. Staff were friendly and the place was clean would go again but definitely not have a pudding

Went here for the first time on Bank holiday Monday for a friend's birthday. This place is absolutely amazing. From the sawdust on the floor to the actual pies Amazing is all I can say. We tried the Tyson Fury pie OMG it was definitely packed with brisket and gravy. Yummy yummy. The staff were so helpful and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We loved it so much we took our Mum and Dad 6 days later. Even they loved it especially when we asked for some scraps for Bella their dog they were so accommodating. Mum and I even took some frozen pies home with us which we all enjoyed very much later in the week. Well done don't change a thing.

Great place, good food and a few options for vegetarians. The fake fish & chips is good but an extra battered halloumi is would be better.

Ford was OK, but not amazing. Desserts are well overpriced, had the sharing one, which was £10.50 I think and was worth nowhere near that much.

What a lovely experience. Disabled access was good with a Disabled toilet. Table service by some friendly and welcoming staff. The food was excellent real home made quality. First v8sit last night but certainly not our last.

Really old world pub charm. In the Black Country this pub looks unchanged over the years and has kept it heritage decor. Menu specialises in pies made from local produce, though there are other options.

If you want good beers, and no nonsense pies and battered chips you can't go too far wrong here. Make no mistake this is not a restaurant, this is a pie shop with beer...

Can here for the first time on Saturday was very disappointed, we were told our table was in the bar it was really noisy and a cramped table. We asked if we could be moved but was told no as the tables were reserved in the main restaurant? We booked a few weeks ago.( felt uncomfortable in the bar as were a few lads drinking and swearing loud and we had our young grandson with us ) The food was good (apart from the black pudding potato cake it was bland and taste less) the service was not good had items missing had to ask a few times for sauce and ice and missing items we won’t ever be returning as I think it’s lost its charm after hearing how it used to be.

Came here on Friday lunchtime. Had the posh and becks pie; beef and stilton. The beef had been slow cooked and fell apart in your mouth. The pastry was light and tasty. Chips were like chip shop chips. Lumphammer Gold beer like nectar. Service good. Laid back atmosphere. The pie exceeded all expectations. Fantastic value for money. Recommended

The pub finally opened 6.10 sat down and we finally gave are orders at 18.40. Starters turned up not looking great. Not once did a staff member come over to us and ask if we needed anything. Three main meals turned up and one was missing two meals were piping hot and the steak was sent back as it was cold. Finally after waiting a further 25 minutes the two steaks turned up missing peppercorn sauce asked a staff member to be told the kitchen have got the order. Meal was finished and no peppercorn sauce. The service has been terrible tonight it’s a shame because Friday nite it was spot on
