Nice food friendly and quick service..

Nice place to hang around, Katsu chicken and rice is my always go-to..

We visited the Bear on Friday 3rd January for their 'fish and chips' night for £6 per person. The fish was freshly cooked and delicious. It's tilapia apparently and cheaper than the chip shop - highly recommended

Not a good experience today at bear tavern had hunters chicken but on eating found the chicken to be tough my friend took food back to manager who stated that the way chicken cooked actually debating as to the food I could hear her from my seat not impressed so I told my friend do not want it replaced because if a manager is debating the food quality and not even a do apologise and walks over e places the cost of food on table still not acknowledging her actions and walks away my bill is on a Tab I haven't even cleared my bill not impressed maybe some people skills are called for

This is my favourite local. The staff are always helpful and friendly. The food is great and so is the atmosphere. Highly recommended x

Friendly place staff very warm and welcoming.

We visit from Canada 3/4 times a year the staff always remembers us and are brilliant. Food is well priced and always hot Great selection of beers on tap

The pub was very busy but I still had a warm welcome from the staff. They are always ready to ask how you are.. I ordered food, which came quickly considering how busy they were and the food was hot and good quality

Bear Tavern is the best local pub around. The staff are great and remember customers easily. They are always happy and I have never had a negative experience. My last visit was just as great, for the Monday night quiz which I always attend with my friends.

Comedy was great but room was freezing upstairs-this probably put off people attending too as it has been the same for the last few.More noticeable now it’s winter and as it’s ten pound in, we do expect to be snake to take our coats off!

Had to write this review today. Everything was great. From ordering at the bar to serving and checking on us Debbie gave us amazing service. Helpful, friendly, respectful. She’s an absolute asset to the team. Food was great. Love the availability on the menu. Especially the kids menu. Pub was clean and inviting. Thank you. Will be back soon

After shopping in Bearwood its always off to the Bear Tavern for food and drinks. Food always on point (sorry forgot to take a picture). Was served by Tara she is the best. Always got a smile on her face and very pleasant nothing is too much trouble.

Jack is so attentive and an amazing memeber of staff. Well done to all the the staff, but please recognise jack he deserves it.

Went here today for a Sunday lunch I love this place the staff and people are lovely the atmosphere is warm and friendly and the food is just great totally recommend you go here for a warm welcome check out their specials menu for during the week the prices are great value fir money x👍

Only the second time I've been in the bear tavern and it was great. I was with my husband and we had a great time.

So I've been here a couple of times now, as somewhere new to try and each time, it's been brilliant. Staff excellent, food excellent, pricing and portions excellent. So if you are looking for somewhere to go in the Bearwood area I would recommend

Great local pub , wonderful staff a nice mid priced menu . A different atmosphere in the day time to the evening but it is nice to see a pub thriving like this is .it has a comprehensive range of drinks lovely food and the landlady Sandra keeps the place lovely and clean and takes care of the occasional troublesome customers, it has many screens showing various sports events but also has live music quite often . All in all a lovely place in a prominent location .

Went here with my son had a lovely meal staff was absolutely brilliant put ramps down for me to get in on a mobility scooter couldn't ask for a better day thanks guys and girls

Absolutely loverly breakfast cooked to perfection, great value and brilliant service. Everything was perfect literally!! Never had a bad meal in the place, the chefs are always on point. Thank you and heavily recommend this place for food and chilling!!

This is a lovely pub. We cannot fault it. The staff are considerate, friendly and super efficient. It is a bright ,happy and welcoming space. It is presided over by the ever present landlady, Sandra and her husband who run it with a kind but firm hand. The food is super, beautifully presented and served promptly even at busy times. Highly recommended.

Ate here today with family. I must say our meals were superb. The burgers were lovely and it's good you can build your own combo. Mac and cheese, chicken skewers, onion rings and fries... Nothing was a disappointment. Our server Georgia was friendly, chatty and nothing was too much trouble. I highly recommend this place.

I'd driven past this pub many times and decided to pop in as it looks nice from the outside. It looks just as good on the inside. There are plenty of staff, so no long waits to be served and they were all very friendly. We were made to feel very welcome. The beer garden is a pleasant area, with plenty of lights and a large screen tv. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Our food arrived quickly and tasted great. I would definitely visit here again.

First visit since the refurbishment. Food was excellent. The staff were super excellent - friendly and gave some great advice regarding cider and which to choose.

We liked this place from day one. We were well received! Today we have four people who serve us with joy and friendliness, three English and one Angolan! The food is well prepared on time and very tasty and at an affordable price with some days offering promotions!!! This Bear Tavern pub is welcoming! You can book in advance to gather your family or friends! Very good!!! My friends also gave it a 10! For entertainment, there are several LCD screens and a very good pool table to play on! There is access for people who use a wheelchair. It has a cozy garden! People who are smokers also have the freedom to feel free to smoke their cigarette! I am unsure of the levels of service or the food quality, I do know, however that the place is a good vibe zone, positivity and happiness, kindness and freedom are highly appreciated and valued by the venue and the locals regularly frequenting thereof...

we arrived at the pub with no expectation of getting a seat during the euro final even though we reserved a seat but with no confirmation the double act on the door did their best to accommodate and ended up getting a table for 6 sandra n tara were great. good night but she about the result. we had snacks during the game and the chicken wings were a plenty. at least a kilo. mahoosive n tasty. well done team. very welcoming

Went there to watch the England game last week Saturday, amazing atmosphere with staff who were incredibly kind, especially Debbie who catered to our every need! If you want an incredibly diverse pub with well priced food and drink, Bear Tavern is the one!

Came here first time in along time i have to say it is way better than before the new refurbished version is amazing very welcoming staff and very friendly it looks amazing

Tara, who I assume is the manager (she runs the place!) is a fantastic woman who does her job with pride and happiness. The bear is a great pub thanks to her and Josh. It's always friendly, always a safe place to be and an excellent all round local.

Had a lovely evening with my partner. Food was spot on and prices were very reasonable. Staff were very professional and friendly. Football was on, and the atmosphere was convivial and lighthearted. Recommend it highly.

We have eaten at the Bear Tavern Smethwick on Sundays and midweek for several weeks since the refurbishment and have had excellent food on every occasion. The Sunday roasts are delicious, with quality meat, fresh veg and perfect portions at a very reasonable price. The staff are really helpful and friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere there. During the weekdays and as I’m of a vintage age I can take advantage of the pensioners offer of two courses for £6.99 which is just right for us. I highly recommend the Bear Tavern Smethwick

A fabulous local pub. Yeah it's in Bearwood, which has its downside, but this pub has no downside. The food is delicious, and well priced. The drinks are great, and the service has been fantastic each time. Great job to everyone working there!

Not been to the BT for many many years and understand its had a makeover (probably a few) since. It was a simple family meal that offered great value for money and a dining experience that was relaxing whilst entertained with plenty of sky sports TV. Always a bonus. Service was excellent!

Possibly the worst glass of wine I've ever had. Thank you for your reply, I did ask if I could taste the wine but was told NO pretty a take or leave it. Wished i left it so truly didn't see the point of trying to exchange it.

good atmosphere. staff are fantastic. first time in since the refurb. food has good portions and real value for money in this great old pub. they also cater for gluten free ( non gluten containing food). look after the new refurb and jump on anything that starts to fail.

Love this little local in Bearwood, great family friendly pub and amazing staff that are very attentive. Not a fan of sports commentary blasting through the TV but that's all I can fault the place for. Besides, it's a pub, you need some background noise!

For a family establishment, we was very disappointed with the treatment we received. Not child friendly at all even tho they cater for children.

We had a Friday night reunion at the Bear. It was very busy, as long as you are advised the food might take a while it's not an issue. I had 8oz rump steak medium rare. Exceptional that's all I can say. Definitely will be back

The pub food is getting better all the time. The staff are always friendly and helpful. It would be good to have more variety of real ales but there are plenty of other drinks particularly lagers. Unfortunately, it's currently closed for renovation.

Me and my boyfriend found this pub in November and probably been there 20 times since. We usually go to another pub down the road but the service has been terrible recently so we ventured out. The Christmas decs are lovely the food is great very big portions and great value for money ,selection of drinks and offers are good but most of all the customer service from the staff is excellent. I have never been in a pub with better trained friendly staff. Always chatty smiley give good recommendations, inform you of upcoming events. This is the main reason I keep coming back because the staff are amazing!

Decent pint although 5.75 for neck oil. Ill stick to pilsner next time!

I came over from Australia this week to visit my son who is studying at Birmingham University. We visited the Bear for a beer tonight, and stayed for dinner. My son had the katsu chicken, I had the fish and chips. Outstanding. Delicious, really well cooked, great portion sizes and the two meals together were £11.50. Add a couple of beers and a great experience for less than 20 quid. To top it off, the venue had very festive decorations, and the staff and service were first class. 2 staff members checked in with us to make sure everything was good with the meal. A bit (delightfully) unexpected given the experience at many other pubs. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Ordered an English breakfast this morning and was disgusted by the service ,I ordered breakfast with 3 slices of toast ,I got the breakfast and the sausages were tough and I had no toast ,when I explained I ordered 3 slices of toast I was given 2 slices of bread and butter ,which I refused and asked again for toast meanwhile my breakfast was stone cold ,she then returned with 2 slices of toast when I asked for 3 ,by this time the food was stone cold and she gave me the toast with jam and marmalade but only 2 slices ,it was my day off and treated my self to breakfast with my sister what a disappoint this experice was as I also deal with food service to a higher level.what they should of done was started again and done me a fresh breakfast with the 3 slices of toast I'd asked for ,but instead choose to leave me with a cold breakfast as they where to lazy to correct the issue correctly. I've been in here before and there is a young mixed race girl who works here she has excellent communication skills and gets everything right she serves you with a warm smile asks if your meal is OK she is a professional at her job so I praise her she makes you welcome

Wonderful service but I have to point out that Josh was so lovely and attentive I’ve been in multiple times and whether I’m having food or a drink he is always checking everything is okay and running around working away he is a true asset to the pub and Bearwood

Food was amazing😍 and the cocktails are really nice. Only bad thing is how loud the music is in the day, can be overstimulating with loads of chatter and then loud music on top!

The meal we had at the Bear 🐻 Tavern was a Seniors deal which is a choice of 2 courses a starter or dessert 🍨 and a main for £5.49 ....yes £5.49....!!!! I don't know how they can do it? We opted for the starter rather than the dessert and had the herby tomato 🍅 soup 🍲 which was lovely and thick and herby. We then had the mains I had fish 🐟 chips 🍟 and mushy peas 🫛 and my wife had the scampi chips 🍟 and garden peas 🫛 both were adequate and my fish could've been a little larger, but the tomato 🍅 soup and slice of bread 🍞 and butter had filled us up and as I said we had enough. The staff were very attentive and catered for our every need. We would certainly go back especially as the Strawberry 🍓 and Lime Kopparberg we had to drink 🍸 was a bargain at £3.50 for a 500ml bottle 🍼 All in all a great dining experience Keith Bracey

Just to tell you that their onion rings have absolutely NO ONION inside... It seems some restaurants buy frozen "fake" onion rings, made of flour, eggs, onion flavour, and no onions inside. The waitress asked me: "You feel taste of onion, dont you? So, they are onion rings..." This is so cynical.

The 🐻 tarven is a great place. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I frequently visit there once/twice a week. They have two good snooker tables, free every Tuesdays after 8pm. They also have board games that you can ask for, our favourite is jenga and ludo. The staff, notably Fabulous, Jade, is helping, providing top grade customer services and always has a smile on her face. She catered to our needs, providing us with the opportunity to refill our drinks, informing us on upcoming bar events. And also, she notifies us 10 minute head before the last order of drinks. Overall the bar is great, has multiple TVs around the place; the sports channel is always on. And music playing in the background. I'd recommend for to anyone and everyone.
