The Dog in Sandwell

Me and my partner visited New Years Eve 2024. The Dog was busy and lots of reserved seating however they managed to squeeze us in, as we hadn't booked. I have an intolerance to wheat and we were presented with "the usual tablet for intolerances" which I personally hate (i am fully aware this is a necessity) HOWEVER the general manager approached after a few moments passed and talked me through the dishes I could have. I can not thank her enough for making what's usually a tedious task into an easy one. She made the usual anxieties of going out for a meal vanish just taking the time to talk me through them and help me choose a meal suitable for me. The whole process took a couple of minutes. The cocktails 🍸 are amazing and the food was delicious 😋. We will be back when we're in the area again. Thank you again.

Had a lovely brunch today. Good range of food and obviously drinks. Food was well presented, tasty and served quickly. Staff were friendly and attentive.

Met a large group of friends at the Dog this Christmas Eve. We were a group of 19 of all ages and everyone enjoyed the day! We all had a fantastic time…the bar was busy as you’d expect on Christmas Eve but the service was efficient and always with a smile, despite us being a large group with a couple of toddlers! The staff made it a thoroughly wonderful Christmas Eve and we hope to visit again soon.

We had a lovely afternoon in The Dog on the 27th December. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was wonderful. We met friends for a few drinks and a snack in that funny period between Christmas and New Year. Sarah and Sam looked after us well and we would definitely recommend it, either for a meal or for a few drinks 😊

One of the most amazing restaurants/pubs in the area. Staff are always friendly and will always go above and beyond to help guests who come to dine or drink. Sam the GM is exceptionally amazing and will always talk to guests with respect. Food is also excellent! If dining i recommend the beef rib mac&cheese its stunning, washed down with one of their gorgeous cocktails!

Came for the festive food menu, the staff were so accommodating and lovely, will be going back soon.

Came here for evening drinks. Large carpark at the back of the pub, accessible via the side road. Facilities nice and clean. Although didn't eat, food looked good and plenty empty plates- curry night on Friday night. Beer garden for warmer evenings. Attentive staff. Arrived at 7.30pm and was really busy and remained busy all night, just a few seat areas available. Update- recently ate here and food was OK. Starters weren't warm so had to ask for them to be reheated, carrots not cooked evenly and Yorkshire puds a bit overdone. Sweet puddings were nice.

Great place for social gatherings, top notch service and food. Drinks always on point. Really well priced for a nice traditional pub in a great location.

Been in this evening for a meal. Booked for 6.15, was shown our seats. Staff were great, service great, food great. We was seated in top seating area. But it was so cold. No radiators were on. After eating main course we asked if we could move and there was no problem. Waiter found us another table by the bar, we had ordered hot drinks to warm up before we ordered desserts. But it was just as cold. There was 1 fire lit. We asked why the other fires were not on. To be told that they had to be turned off at a certain time so they were out by closing time. Everyone had their coats on throughout the pub. It was so uncomfortable and spoiled the atmosphere. So we left without ordering desserts and more drinks. Cutting short our visit. So disappointing.

Friendly atmosphere, staff efficient and helpful, food reasonably priced and good size portions

It was our first time out for Christmas dinner we were so disappointed our table wasn’t ready no cutlery when we got our table starter was beautiful but had to wait 40 minutes for our main meal then another 15 minutes for it to be cleared for someone to say it’s our busiest day of the year we understand that but we booked in august and £400 for Christmas lunch there shouldn’t be any problem will not return

CHRISTMAS EVE at the Dog, Hagley Rd. Excellent special night tonight. Very busy, great atmosphere & smooth service. Great food again & speedy service from the bar team. Lady & the Sax duo hit the stage around 8:00pm Absolutely brilliant, great mix of melodies for old, new & county. But if dancing to. 🕺🏻💃 Great vocals from Sam & Michele. A great full house loved it. Seams no one left the Pub after their dinner. Cracking event. Sorry you missed it. Have a wonderful Christmas & happy New year to Manager Sam & the team. Brilliant has usual great staff

Sam and the team we're absolutely fantastic today. We could not fault the table service which was second to none. The food was delicious and as we're the drinks.

We enjoyed a lovely Christmas meal at The Dog with our friend. There was a varied selection on the Christmas menu to choose from with something to suit most tastes. To start, two of us choose the very tasty parsnip soup while the other had the prawn cocktail. For the main I had the vegetarian spinach and mushroom wellington and the others choose the turkey. The portions were generous but we all cleared our plates as everything tasted superb. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try the desserts as we were too full!

Really nice place and a nice atmosphere. Found my new local.

Had a lovely time here ordered 3 meals, great service meals where excellent generous portions value for money, I had the mixed grill best I've had in a long time, could not fault the staff or the service,I would highly recommend them.

Dropped in on Sunday for a bite to eat with the wife and we both had the turkey roast, it was superb! So much so that we’ve been again this evening for steak night and yet again everything was spot on. Friendly staff, great service and a real Christmas atmosphere 🎄

The Dog is usually decent enough, for a night out that’s not that special. Last nights adventure wasn’t as successful, unfortunately. The pre Christmas Turkey dinner, while missing both the stuffing and red cabbage was both expensive and (simply) not that nice. The two small Yorkshire puddings would have been better served as biscuits, they were so hard. The Turkey portion served was also preciously small. Mind you I was grateful for that ………… once I’d tasted it. Well worth a miss. Definitely won’t be going back.

From the sight of the pub to the staff, was an all around pleasant visit. Beautiful pub inside and the grounds are very well looked after, and the staff always go above and beyond. Nothings ever a problem. Great visit and team!

Arrived for love entertainment the manageress Sam was amazing so organised and welcoming. Live music was outstanding and service was top notch will be returning again soon.

Always fabulous food, wonderful service and friendly staff. The dog is dog friendly (of course 🥰) and family friendly with a little library for little ones. A amazing selection of drinks with fast service and a excellent choice of meals for everyone's taste. There are so many reasons to go to the dog so defo go and try it out for yourself 🥰🥰😘 I had the tandoori skewers today , the food was delicious and the staff were so friendly ,the cocktail selection is great and 2 for 12pound after 5oclock The passionfruit martini is my favourite 😍 so you cant say no to 2 fot 12 😃deffo be back Been to the open Mic night wich was a great atmosphere, they are doing this the first Tuesday of every month so will be defo going again 👍

Don't go for Too Good To Go. They don't update the app and cancel before you get there. Really poor service when travelling 10/15 minutes to get to there!

All ok except for lasagne plated wrong. I asked for veg instead of salad as I can't abide dressing and it was presented with salad. Rather than re-plating, the dish was returned with the salad removed, but dressing and onion still present-really off putting. We chose not to have deserts and went elsewhere.

My wife and I went recently and enjoyed a steak dinner ( her ) and a mixed grill ( me ) . Food was lovely and staff could not help enough , checking to see if we needed anything else regularly. A local pub atmosphere with a good selection of ales . A nice touch was the live music , a talent young singer backed up by a saxophone . Overall a very enjoyable night was had and will definitely return .

Attention to detail - we bought my dad for his 93rd birthday - with his guide dog. We were able to discuss which table would be best suited (ie using the ramp) and also a quite area where the guide dog could be comfortable. The food was lovely - we each off different menus but all enjoyed it very much. Nice touch with bowls of water and treats for doggie friends too! Thank you to Sam and your team for looking after us.

Visited for the first time last week, couldn’t fault it at all! Staff were really friendly, great service from everyone we encountered. Food was wonderful and well worth the wait, my steak was cooked to perfection and everyone else loved their meals, already planning our next visit - thanks to everyone at the Dog 😊😊😊

We usually book a table for late Saturday afternoons for food and drinks. The staff are always friendly and helpful, the food arrives quickly and is always great- a fabulous place to spend a relaxing few hours!

Disappointed on our first visit. Shown to our table then left to order on line(strange) Food was average at best. Just one example was “steak pie served with creamy mash” in reality pie pastry was hard and there was no mash (creamy or otherwise) and the side of mixed fresh veg turned out to be chopped green cabbage. The other members in the party had similar experiences. After ordering the desert course if arrived with all the previous course plates etc still on the table. There was also no heating on and we sat opposite the main double doors which were pinned open for 25 minutes while a delivery driver was in and out making his delivery. ( who has a bulk delivery at 6pm on a Saturday evening? I don’t think we will be returning.

Charlotte and Sarah were so helpful and friendly, we visited with 4 young children and they were super accommodating and kind. Makes a difference to a tired mum. Food was nice and the kids ate well. Lovely pub, would come again.

The pub inside is lovely and the staff are really kind and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and I would definitely order the sausage and mash again! We were celebrating my dad’s birthday and we had a nice secluded area and I was even able to bring my dog and order a small portion of food for him. I would definitely recommend The Dog to friends and family or anyone who would wish to go

Came for a few drinks with my partner. Staff are really friendly and the service is nice and quick. Didn't eat here so cannot comment on the food but overall, a lovely place to chill out especially during the winter days.

Attended the kids Halloween disco here and the staff were great and really engaged with the children. Great ale on tap and had a really good time. Family friendly 100%

Usually a really nice place but last night there were a bunch of kids running around screaming at 9pm. This will put me off returning, very disappointing.

The food was very good! A bit of a wait for both starters and mains. But it was a Sunday and it didn't look like there were many members of staff around. We all had a great time though and will definitely be going back!

Summer was a fantastic waitress. There was a bit of a wait for food as it was a busy Saturday night, but nothing long or frustrating. Perfect place for an evening drink or meal.

Just been here for my daughters birthday and a Lunch Time Bite. Never again. It was so cold in there and the Waiter just plonked the food on the table . His Attitude was disgusting. The manager did apologise and said he would speak to the young man. Dont these people get training. Never go there again Sorry 😞

Enjoyed our meal with the family and our waitress, Andi, took excellent care of us despite being very busy. Top food and top service 👌. Ate there again and the service was just as excellent. Five stars!!

Ran out of Yorkshire puddings no exchange offered. Waited 45 minutes for half of our food to come out, had to request stuffing and bacon even though its on the menu as included?!! Server asked about condiments and then refused to actually bring then to the table leaving one of our guests to walk off and find some after 15 minutes. Meat was fatty and portions dmall

Sam and the team always provide great service! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed drink! The staff are friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed.

What a great family charity day topped with a super evening with live music. Food and customer service was exceptional. We could see how hard the whole team were working and the Manager Sam engaged with us all.Have seen many managers change hands but Sam has really took customer service to the next level with a fantastic team.. highly recommend!!

Sunday lunch very good. Only downside was I ordered an extra of potato dauphinose with it. None came with my main so I asked waitress about this. She said they would follow soon. I think they hadn't come after about 10 minutes (did not time, so cannot be certain) but I had eaten a lot of my fish and other veg before I headed towards bar to ask someone. A waitress carrying drinks said she would find out but I hovered towards bar wanting quicker resolution. A colleague sat nearby at a table using a laptop offered to help, so I said I'd asked 2 staff already. She headed towards kitchen and I had my side within a few minutes. But I think kitchen staff should be aware that diners do not wish to chase up ordered sides. Either they should come with the main (at the same time)or immediately after that. The customer should not have to keep reminding staff. Otherwise, the Sunday menu has an excellent choice and food was that too

I only had the soup , Which was delicious. My friends had meals and really enjoyed them . I love the re camp . Really nice decor . The staff are nice too. Well done all.

First visit today for our Sunday roast, we couldn't fault anything.The staff were very attentive and friendly.The lady who served us to our meals couldn't do enough, even bringing extra gravy.The food was very nice and will definitely visit again. Bar staff were friendly and smiley aswell.

Music a bit loud. Food was good for the most part. Fishcakes are a bit dry with only a small dish of sauce. Ember inn pub with a few decent beers and lots of poor ones. Lunch time Friday was not busy at all. Free parking behind pub.
