Not the best. The café smelt of used fat when we walked in. Only wanted a coffee which was ok but the place needs a bit of a spruce up.

As always there’s a mix of experiences from customers as not everyone has the same expectations. If though you’re looking for a great value cafe that is friendly with very fast service then you must give this a go. I love the setting here with the Victorian architecture and sea views. Parking is always available free of charge for 20 minutes which is always plenty of time as food is always delivered quickly. It’s not a gourmet’s retreat but need not be as products are all hot and tasty and the pricing is in line and great value. I’ve been using this cafe regularly for over 5 months and can clearly see that the team here are appreciated for their welcoming and friendly approach. I’ve never seen any issues with tables not being cleared and this is something I would notice due to my profession managing premium sports and leisure events and venues. So fear not, if you’re looking for a convenient traditional cafe then you’ll be hard pushed to beat the Railway Cafe in Torquay.

Traditional 'greasy spoon' that does a decent breakfast for a decent price. Limited choice of newspapers etc but friendly enough and priced well for a railway cafe and captive audience.

I spent a week working from Torquay and used the station every day. One day I had missed a train but sat in the cafe to do some work whilst waiting 40 minutes for the next train. I was asked would I like anything and said I would soon, however my work took longer than anticipated so didn't have time to buy anything. As I left the rude lady owner muttered under her breath 'rude man'.... when I challenged her she stated that it wasn't a waiting room, something that if they don't want people to use their cafe as a waiting room they should state this. Now all they have done is ensure that I will never purchase anything from this grease stench of a business ever... Manners cost nothing!!!

Re-visited this cafe whilst travelling to Torquay. As usual with several previous visits, the proprietors were most friendly & helpful, thank you Phyl. The premises are very clean with an abundant choice of freshly cooked, reasonably priced food on the menu.We were impressed to notice all the condiments were full clean bottles stacked together neatly in a row, with ample serviettes and cutlery nearby, Very impressive and eye catching -real professional touch- well doneFor Railway buffs this is a must to visit with many steam rail pictures around the walls.

One good thing about the smaller stations like Torquay is that they leave it to some local person to provide refreshments, rather than serving up the same pre packaged, fast food rubbish from a generic food kiosk or vending machine. There are some nice independent and individual café/restaurants around Devon's smaller stations and this one deserves a mention here. Friendly family run café with pleasant staff, and a nice interior (even if the rest of Torquay station is derelict and falling apart). There are snacks and hot and cold drinks available, and they do a decent enough fry up too, though the hot food is cooked to order so allow enough time if you have a train to catch. If you aren't travelling but just want a quiet place to sit and ponder, this is great for that too.

The café on Platform 1 is privately run and offers a good choice of basic eats. It is clean and bright and a good place to have a cuppa, £1.10, whilst waiting for the train, but watch the time if leaving from Platform2 on the 'up' line. Free parking for 20mins outside. Having visited for an initial assessment we will return to try a breakfast. I did note that they hold a 5* food hygiene rating, a good sign.

I have had Breakfast here a couple of times and the odd cup of tea whilst waiting to catch the train. This is a small business and charges reflect what you would expect to pay at a normal cafe in the Town, e.g £1 for a large mug of tea, not the higher prices you normally find at a station. There is free on street parking nearby throughout the year if you are not using the train. Usual range of products you would expect from a high street cafe.

Unfortunately this attractive and slightly quirky cafe was closed when I arrived in Torquay recently but was open for my return journey. I don't normally associate rail journeys/stations with enjoyment but it was very nice sitting outside in the sun with a cup of tea before the train. Also I could get decaffeinated tea, which was a bonus...

I've used this cafe several times over the years. Always been provided with good food and great service. There is nothing special about the food, just good quality simple stuff with no pretentious bits added. The service is good too. Friendly, courteous and always time to help if needed. It's easy to miss as you have to go on the station platform to find it. Be warned that it closes early in the afternoon, but then it is open early.

A warm welcoming cafe with superb food and service. The menu choice is good and the breakfasts the best choice. Great value for money and everything cooked to perfection and can accommodate if you would prefer it cooked different ways. A hot steamed coffee just perfects it. Also being dog friendly a great add on.

This cafe is located at the Torquay Train Station and can be easily be missed if you didn't know it was there, and what a mistake that would be to make!! The cafe does exactly as you would expect. It provides a hearty breakfast (2 Sausages, 2 Eggs, 2 Bacon, Fried Bread, Hash Browns, Beans, Mushrooms and 2 rounds of Toast) for only £5.20!! You can go smaller if your appetite is not up to a large!! Other cafe menu items are available but when is it not acceptable to eat a Large Breakfast? The actual Cafe is located in the actual railway building and posseses high ceilings and a nice friendly feel. The staff were helpful, friendly and very quick to serve my hot breakfast.

First of all I start with the positive. The food was lovely that was it. However if you have autism or anxiety don't bother going in here. For me Iike going out to places and keep myself to myself. I will often wear my ear buds or headphones to shut myself off. Interacting with people can be difficult. Obviously I spoke to the lady on the counter who was nice to order food. That bit was fine. I then sat down to keep myself to myself. Fine brought the food put. That was fine. Like I said I then had my headphones on where I prefer not to be interrupted. That's my way of blocking things out. I should be allowed to do that. Not I need to explain this but due to my situation I hate people approaching me when I have something like headphones on. It should a sign or signal to say I don't want to talk at the moment. I hate being caught off guard. So one of the waitresses came over offered to take my plate. I said I'm still using it. I thought I would be left alone after that. Shortly after the "owner" came over and asked the same question. I explained I don't like to be interupted and I was trying to listen to my music. I just thought it would have been obvious I didn't want to talk. I prefer not being bombarded after I have already paid. The "owner" then sacarcastcally apologied "I'm sorry about that love" and said "go somewhere else if you don't like it" which is highly unprofessional. Well he bumped into the wrong person. All I was doing is minding my own business. I have had a lot of things to process and prefer to be quiet at times. As for the "owner" you need to be educated on people with behaviour challenges. Every day its a challenge for someone like me. I then went up to the counter to explain that I'm on the autism spectrum and that I wear headphones to block things out for then for the lady with glasses basically saying first of all its a cafe and a social thing so basically have to interact with people. I then reiterated that I don't have to interact with people and I have my headphones on to basically keep myself to myself. The lady then had the cheeke to turn round and say I didn't have proof like a landyard. Why should advertise who I am. You don't ask that sort of question. Its not my fault people like them aren't educated on hidden disorders. It doesn't surprise me that there is not enough emphasis on this still but it makes me angry! I will not be coming back until it changes hands. Shocking service.

This place is more like a social experience than a café, in keeping the ethos of it's charitable background. We were way out of season and it's fairly well off the main beaches in a bit of a cul de sac of the riviera seafront so we suspect it's all very different in the high season. On New Year's Eve it was more like being invited to a family and friends get together than walking into a commercial establishment - apart from the paying bit obviously, but even that wasn't too painful!

Lovely food for lunch. Was just very shocked when I took my 7 year anniversary of granddaughter to the loo… on the wall were 2 vending machines, both selling ‘sex toys’? I had to answer some questions from her. I do find it hard to understand why the need in a local pub which is geared towards family friendly as there are great outdoor games outside. Very worrying for our young people to think these items are ‘normal’
