Rail House Cafe in City of London, Westminster

Amazing overall experience! Very nice decor, great food and lovely staff to top it off ! Would definitely go back when in London.

Stumbled upon Rail House for lunch, while scouting for pre-theater dinner. We ordered the whole sea bass with Vietnamese-style nuoc cham (the risky menu option) and the chimichurri minute steak with fried egg (the conservative option), and both were fantastic! I don’t recommend whole sea bass to finicky diners wigged out by an eye (gingerly concealed by a garnish of shaved cucumber pickle) or intimidated by a rack of pin bones, but if you really love fresh fish, you understand that the dainty yet deadly bone is what keeps the fish moist (the same is true with a macho T-bone steak) and that when whole fish is cooked to succulent perfection, as at the Rail House, the flesh flakes right off with some gentle help from a spoon. I say this as someone who seeks out whole fish, when we go out to eat, because we went to various 4 stars restaurants in Paris, where the waiters are skilled enough to debone a fish, but they did so without our consent and they would remove the operation plate which had all the flavorful juices back to the kitchen to spare us of the visual mess. It’s sacrilege to a pescaphile with centuries of fishermen and fisherwomen in their blood, but understandable from a restaurant's point of view, when you have touchy tourists to serve. The Vietnamese cook in me would say that the sauce garnish for the fish, nuoc cham, would have benefitted from a touch more lime and sugar and more assertive red chili mixed into the base of fish sauce, but the fish was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and as fluffy or flaky as basmati rice. The minute steak was moist and medium rare, but the star of our lunch was an la carte order of smoked sweet potato with whipped horseradish butter. Theirs is a luxurious fusion take on a diner style baked potato, with butter and sour cream you will ever eat in your life. I could down a whole bowl of just the whipped horseradish cream, it had the mouth feel of a warm frothy milkshake and just the right amount of horseradish, to elevate and cut through the sweetness and fattiness of the butter and sweet potato roasted and lightly charred to forkable fluffiness over an open flame. I know I will be trying to replicate the secret recipe at home. We initially felt that the menu prices were a bit steep, but the service was excellent, the waiters were so friendly and inviting, held no airs and didn’t rush us out the door, the menu had originality and zest, and we could tell that the chef took pride in the expert preparation of every morsel. One of the best meals we had in London.

Great dinner and service for a large group of us from work. The maitre de, Solomon, is a hero. A diner had her ‘phone stolen and he ran like Mo Farah to catch the thief, get the ‘phone back and hold him there until the police came. That is service!

really lovely gem nearby London victoria, well-priced food for its quality and a lovely atmosphere to dine in. very demure, and the staff are very mindful - the host was a delight and couldn’t have accommodated to us more after we’d accidentally booked for the wrong date and had to bring our suitcases with us. a lovely birthday treat :)

Very nice place, great flavoured food, and lovely professional staff. The seats were comfy and the outdoor seating was exquisite. Played the right music in the place and I reccomend this place to everyone.

I’ll start with the good: Nice venue Friendly staff Very tasty Bloody Mary The bad: Food was very average, but incredibly overpriced. For example I paid over £4 for a dusting of feta cheese to be added to my avocado on toast which is kind of outrageous (even for central London). Food was tepid. The ugly: Charging 13.5% service charge is a total joke.

We had a great lunch here yesterday. Food was faultless, we loved everything and we all can be a bit fussy. Sourdough bread really good and the black tahini butter looks odd but tastes lovely. All our mains were spot on with nothing to criticise. Staff were amazing!! Francisco was our fantastic waiter who went above and beyond to make us have a great afternoon. Also Solomon at front desk - his energy and personality give a great first impression. Place is nice and busy but tables well spaced and decor is lovely. We will definitely be back and be back separately with other friends too. Highly recommend.

The Railway House is an outstanding dining spot. The food was perfect; I had the lamb tongue and the fillet mignon, both incredibly tasty. My colleagues enjoyed a variety of dishes, including vegetarian options, and everything was excellent. The service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was interesting and full of character. A truly memorable dining experience. Definitely recommended 👌

Came with some friends for a birthday celebration. The restaurant has a really cute aesthetic. The waitstaff were lovely, in particular our waiter Solomon who sang my friend happy birthday (beautifully might I add). The food was fabulous and the service was very speedy. 10/10 recommend x

Had a great experience at Rail House Victoria recently. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was buzzy. But what really made the night was the service from Eniko. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed for a memorable meal.

Simple but quiet place to have a business lunch or quick bite with friends. Salt beef/smoke meat sandwich is nice.

My daughter and myself visited yesterday after visiting Hampton Court. Great staff had good banter. Lovely place and food was great. Hopefully visit again when visiting London.

We went to the Rail House yesterday to celebrate my mother in laws 61st birthday after a show and it was the most perfect experience. The food was yummy, the menu is diverse and fun and they have suggested wine pairings with most of their items which is great. I can especially recommend the schnitzel and the truffle mac and cheese but we also had a one of their bowls and the lemon chicken thighs and they were excellent. A special shoutout must be given to all the wait staff there. the service was exceptional. everyone was caring, lovely, and everything came quickly and perfectly. The man that made our night was Solomon. He brought a little slice of red velvet cake and sang a solo happy birthday to my mother in law. it was nothing short of magical! he genuinely should be next door on the Hamilton stage. He's a host that knows exactly how to work different types of diners and is efficient, competent and just an all round star. we will tell everyone about our great time at Rail House and will definitely be back!

We pre booked for brunch, liked the look of the place, it was quite busy when we arrived. Got seated quickly and the staff were friendly. We ordered our food and drinks together. The drinks took ages to arrive and so did the food. We had pancakes which were more cake, very heavy and sweet. Tasted ok but a bit disappointed. I am not normally one to be negative and would give it another chance.

We had an amazing lunch for muly Uncle's Bday. Everything was excellent and we enjoyed the suggestions that Richard,our server ,gave us. If you are in this part of London, give this restaurant a try, it'll be worth it.

Lovely food and a great spot for brunch. Sunday roasts are also available and very generous servings! Staff are always friendly. Outdoor seating is available and lovely in the summer.

Greeting was okay, according to the hostess we had the best seats in the house however sofa was ripped, had plants behind us which were head height so kept poking our heads :S. Ordered drinks gold and red juice which were tasteless. Food wise it was terrible. Toast with scrambled eggs, no butter offered toast hard as a brick. Burgerdict was the worst thing on earth, eggs were not runny, meat was dry as hell I understand its dry aged but god dammit not like sand. Special hollandaise was special as it was split and did not taste good. Food came out in 3 minutes which explains everything is prepped and pre heated but came out ice cold. Our Chips were forgotten had to mention multiple times. I refused to eat the burgerdict. My partner is pregnant so she was hungry and ate but we went to another cafe straight after. Service was useless. Management have not got a clue what they were doing. Really disappointed with the venue as it was our first baby scan. Hope you guys pull your weight as the price was ridiculous.

This was a very lovely restaurant, with great service, good vibes and chic instagram worthy decor. There is comfortable outdoor seating available which is wonderful when the sun is out and the weather is warm. The food and drinks were excellent. Well presented, delicious and they did not scrimp on the portions. It is a little pricey if you have more than one drink but it’s worth it for the vibes, food, service and drinks. A well deserved 5 star rating.

I wrote 5 because it’s better than a lot of other 4 point something rated restaurants in the area, but it’s not blow your mind out of this world good. It’s got a nice atmosphere above average food and decent drinks. I like it and would go back.

The venue is lovely and in a really nice location. I liked the atmosphere too and there's like a nice level of background music even when sat outside. The reason I lowered the score for the service was purely because it was great to start, but after we had dessert no one came back to ask if we wanted any drinks or needed anything else. We had to physically go get someone when we wanted the bill and it was a shame considering it started so well. That being said, I'd go back, the food was nice and there's quite a few things on the menu and I'm curious to try out. So overall, lovely spot, was great for our girlie catch up. Price wise we got 2 mains, 1 side, 2 desserts and drinks (2 alcoholic and 2 soft) and a tea for £107. Good veg and fish options.

Went to RHC twice this week. Tuesday evening was wet, dreary and full but we were seated and served incredibly efficiently. Definitely recommend the truffle Mac and cheese side order. All food cooked to perfection. Also went today for lunch of chicken skewers, haloumi skewers and wild rice salad - again perfect and just what we wanted. Thank you.

Food was allright but service was horrible. Had to repeat many times for staff to understand anything. Tips got added to receipt without asking. If they so underpaid its owners issue do not put it for your costumers especially when all they done is bring a plate around. Anything around this place is better.

Lovly place mostly brunch menu and a some larger mains- steaks etc. Truffle Mac and cheese was great plus the steak and salmon Benedict. Good to make a reservation during the lunch time. The upstairs is a bit quieter if you want a cozy lunch Drinks were a little slower to come then expected but apart from that all good

We had a fab brunch on Bank Holiday Monday. Food was good and staff were lovely. Its a great place to catch up with family and friends.

i remember going to this restaurant with a couple of friends. this restaurant is beautifully decorated but i don't think it's worth it, food is quite expensive and it's not even that great. i've had the truffle mac and cheese which barely tasted like truffle. the sourdough was good i liked it, but its not worth the price. my friends got something with eggs hey liked it... the chicken burger was a deception, the staff is friendly yes but service was slow.

Very good experience in this Asian fast food which offers many choices. A small downside on the noise where a conversation is impossible given the crowd and the resonance. If you want to take advantage of this place to chat with your friends, depending on the time of day, that will not be possible or you will have to shout.. Nevertheless, I recommend this place because we ate well and were well served by professional staff and putting himself within our reach because he is French.

I went here a couple months ago and really enjoyed my time. I came on Sunday and had a different experience. We were sat inside and had to ask twice to be served after 15 min of being avoided. We then had to ask for cutlery. We then had to ask twice to be served dessert. I know it was busy outdoor however, we felt completely ignored. Not sure I’d say i would return sadly.

Been here before and the service has always been a let down. Popped by today and asked for a table in the sun (some tables were in the shade, others were in the sun). After a couple of staff chatting one of the team said they only had a table in the shaded area. I could see tables free in the sun so I asked if they had one there.. the member of staff replied “we only have shade, I don’t control the weather unfortunately”. Ridiculously sassy answer and no need for it. Wouldn’t have hurt to say those tables are only for lunch bookings or something. Put me off and summarises the service here.

Nice atmosphere and good food and drinks, but relatively small portions. I ordered the veggie breakfast and they kindly made it gluten free, but didn't ask if I wanted anything to replace the baked beans. The chairs are also not the most comfortable and there was a disappointing toilet situation on Sunday (most of the women's cubicles were locked, and the other one wasn't in the best state)

Really nice place, a little noisy. Very pleasant welcome and service. The dishes are very good and very generous (huge pancakes!!!)

For brunch, this place is just ok. Nothing special, fairly tasteless food. Service was again only ok and Absolutely not worth the 13.5% Service charge.

Three friends came in at 11am for a coffee and we were put on the huge low coffee table which was not comfortable to sit at and too big to have a proper chat. When a small table came free behind us (11.20) we were told we couldn't move as the tables were being set up for lunch. We understood that and were happy to leave but we just wanted a coffee. I didn't realise it's more of a restaurant so we went to Pret instead. Your staff were great though

They guys here are always friendly, sometimes service can be slow but the food and wine are amazing. By the way, if you're sat at the bar and Chauda (not sure if the spelling, I'm sorry!) Is behind the the bar then he's a superstar and will look after you brilliantly. My favourite venue round Victoria.

Solid spot for an upscale breakfast near Victoria

Beautiful surroundings, amazing cocktails. Food was good, servings a bit on the small size with the sharing plates. Service was only ok, the waiter tried to memorise our order and missed one of the dishes we ordered. (Just write it down dude, we're not going to judge.) Service at the end to pay our bill was slow.

1st time visit, fantastic from when we 1st walked in Staff really interested in service The food we saw delivered to other tables looked very good. My poached eggs were overdone for my liking but that's personal taste We.will be back

I came in today to have coffee and lunch and I asked one of the staff if it was okay to sit for a few hours with my laptop. They immediately turned me away from the table they were taking me to and led me to a very uncomfortable table near the entrance. I then spent the next 20 minutes trying to get someone’s attention to order a coffee. The same staff member walked past and asked the table next to me if they were okay and when they looked at my table and I smiled, ready to order, they walked straight past to talk to another staff member. I left straight after that as I did not feel welcome.

Lovely staff. They overheard me saying happy birthday to my daughter and brought a piece of cake and free cocktails. It made her day. Thanks Jeet

My friend and I had the most delightful lunch here yesterday. It started with Solomon greeting us at the door with a big warm smile saying he was going to make sure we had a really comfortable table. Sure enough, we got a great table by the window where we settled in to while away the afternoon, catching up after not seeing each other for a long time. They never rushed us but kept an eye out to see if we needed anything. Aaron the manager came to speak to us, and again, what a gorgeous human being! Both he and Solomon made our day as happy and relaxed as you could ever want it to be. We were beaming when we left and will definitely be back!

Good food, good value - for Victoria. Thanks to Maria (front of house) who was very helpful with my booking. She had a friendly can-do attitude. Some staff were a little inexperienced but I’m sure that will improve. Decor basic or quirky take your pick. Thank you for an enjoyable evening with my group of friends.

Too hot upstairs, there’s zero airflow. Uncomfortable seating layout. Tables for 2 are too small. Waitress did her best, but was running off her feet trying to do everything solo. Food: too expensive to justify the quality. Everything was unseasoned. I even had to add salt to the truffle mac&cheese. Burger meat was good quality but dry as a bone, overcooked beyond well done and unseasoned. Scrambled eggs were quite good. But, of course, needed seasoning. Really wanted to try the pancakes, but was so disappointed with the other things that we left, still hungry.

Such a nice place ,that's where it ended, food was delivered cold, it was sent back,we waited 40 minutes to have it brought back to us and it was still cold,waiter rudely snatched the food from table then to be delivered again, plates were so hot but food was tepid, didn't eat it .Bill was reduced after complaining, won't be going back.

We stumbled upon Rail House after Mass at Cathedral and with no reservation, we received the best brunch experience we had in London. The hostess worked us in and the servers were over the top. The food was awesome as well. We tried it all from traditional veggie breakfast, to eggs Benedict, to the malt pancakes. The pancakes were the crowd favorite. The place was buzzing!

The atmosphere was good and the decor inside is lovely. Location wise it's also well located. Unfortunately, that's what saved the evening as the service was very slow and the food expensive considering no sides are included. Waiters were inattentive and twice we had to get their attention as we had been left waiting for a considerable time.

We popped in unexpectedly for a light bite and refreshments on a Saturday lunchtime. The place had a really nice buzz to it with an almost Victorian orangery feel to it. Lovely space. The staff were extremely welcoming and a shout out goes to Solomon who greeted and seated us. Extremely professional, hospitable and lovely! Thank you for a great afternoon!

Very average, very overpriced. Service was attentive, the food was really, really overpriced and tiny portions.. you have to pay for sides to complete your meal - I've had much better pub food for less. It was a convenient location to meet and the place we wanted to go to wasn't accepting bookings. Would I go again? No.

Needed a nice location for an early dinner after a day out in London

Oh entering, it was chaos. Packed, loud, loads of people waiting to be seated. However, once we were seated (by the lovely host who apologised our reserved table was slightly late) our order was taken quickly. Drinks and food arrived very fast and were delicious; highly recommend the sweetcorn fritters and full veggie breakfast. Good value for money too. We had to ask for more water and the bill but I feel like service everywhere in London isn’t great these days. The staff were very busy but very friendly. Would revisit, and hope that the greeting situation was a bit more under control.

I had the sweet potato and courgette fritters. Starters were great. Perfect service from the staff. Lovely atmosphere.

I wanted to leave a review for Solomun who was working front of house yesterday. The poor guy was working own on the door with a never-ending backlog of guests waiting to be seated, he had to keep running back and forth on his own, shuffle tables to accommodate all the guests and manage the cloakroom, yet despite the chaos he remained calm, composed, professional and apologetic the whole time AND he mentioned to me that it was only his THIRD day! Given that we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated and then had to wait at the bar for a table to free up for another 10 minutes, plus service was a little slow, he kindly gave us complimentary drinks as an apology. To be honest, if wasn’t for his hospitality my friend and I would have probably walked out and never return to Railhouse, glad we didn’t though as the food was YUMMY!!

The menu is a spectrum of so many yummy choices. From the starter cocktail to the mains, and desert. It’s all gorgeous. The ambiance was fab and the staff were so knowledgeable and relaxed and personable….i cannot wait to come back!!! Xxxx

We asked the man on the front desk if he had a table for two just for a drink, he said he would check. He proceeded to seat the guests that were there before us, totally fine. Then he greeted new guests arriving and then even seated a party of four who asked if there happened to be a table available. He showed her the table and she ushered in her guests from outside to join her. The front desk man then came back and looked at us, asked if he could help like he hadn't seen us before. We asked again for a table for two and he just said no sorry. I found this rude, dismissive and inattentive. Go to Vagabond directly opposite, they were super friendly and accommodating despite being just as busy.

I popped into Rail House on Tuesday to check out the menu for pre theatre dinner. Arron welcomed me and showed me around and I booked a table for later. We were looked after so well by the friendly staff and enjoyed a delicious relaxed meal with a complimentary glass of wine (for a very special occasion) I would like to thank Arron, Nana and Francisco for all their hard work and for making the evening so memorable!

Was there for a breakfast meeting, but never the less, service was great ,food was decent and it was 9am...

Space is very beautiful and well located. Ideal for those who want to try an English breakfast.

Excellent. We ate stake and chicken Milanese with mushrooms. Exquisite. The carrot and orange cake for incredible dessert. All very well!

Popped in for breakfast as many places around weren't open. It was a fab experience from the start. Really warm greeting and delightful conversation from Sofia on reception, she's been very lovely and knowledgeable. I felt looked after from the get-go, with warm and smiling staff. Shout out to the manager Aaron who was also very friendly, and I was served by the fantastic Johanny. The breakfast Cajun Stew was honestly astounding, had to really take my time cause I was full not even halfway through. I thought that for the quality, the menu was reasonably priced. Definitely recommended based on my first experience, I'll be back.

We had a delicious brunch at Rail House! The food was excellent. Everything was fresh and tasted so good! The interior is also very nice. Elizabeth was very kind and attentive. I highly recommend the shakshuka and the berry pancakes!

Overpriced food and extras, really disappointing lately. Repetitive menu of brunches etc. Poor disinterested service

Good light brunch (eggs and smoked salmon, cappuccino for one of us, avocado and chips, coffee for the other) except that the first attempt at the avocado was rock hard and inedible. The second attempt was minimally acceptable. At these prices (£5 for half an avocado) it's reasonable to say to the restaurant: if you can't do it well, don't do it at all. Also the service charge is too high at 13.5%. Since the price includes VAT at 20% this amounts to a tip of 16.2%. This is not the US: the staff are already paid a proper wage. Beautiful coffee pot though.

Dryest brunch I've ever had and rude staff as well, they literally threw my meal on the table. I paid 14£ for 2 half muffins, a thin slice of ham and refrigerated hollandaise eggs. Also, really uncomfortable seats for some reason.

Had dinner and drinks last night and was served by the lovely Rechelle. She gave us a recommendation of the truffle Mac and cheese, which I’m usually not a fan of but can say she hit the nail on the head. The vibes for a Thursday were on point, and would love to come back again as we were looked after really well :)

First visit to Rail House Cafe and came away impressed by the whole experience. Interesting look and feel to the place, decent food and good service. Interesting to have such choices of type of seating - formal tables, relaxed sofas and various styles. Staff were very helpful and I'm happy to give a special mention for Justine who did an excellent job of looking after my less-than-able companion. Good all round.

The food is fine, waiters are fine. What is NOT fine is the front desk maitre d going out of her way to make a breastfeeding mum feeling uncomfortable. We walked into this restaurant that weekday morning, because I knew I needed to feed my baby, and this place looked spacious and empty at the time. She wanted to seat us right between two tables with people already dining, despite the whole restaurant being empty. I told her I need to breastfeed she pointed to the table that is one table away, and we reluctantly took it. after seated, i realised it was too small an area for ourselves and buggy. we moved one table along, really hoping she didn't see us. of course she did - and what did she do?! she came over and made a point to say she needs the table back in an hour…. She needn't worry, we cleared out way before lunch rush hit, leaving with our buggy and bags opening the heavy door while she just stood there and watched… if you want to feel unwelcome, judged and being shamed for doing something natural, this place is for you. One more thing, she kept bringing people to the table right next to us for two to sit, 3 times. All those customers saw me feeding, smiled at me and NO one took the table. They asked to be seated somewhere else to give me privacy.

Well located restaurant but so overpriced for what you get. Food was below average, small portions and ridiculously priced add ons. Service was good but staff tried to kick us off the table early which ruined it. Also lift to upstairs (needed for buggy) was through the kitchen which wasn’t ideal.

I visited the venue recently and had Sunday brunch with my friends, all went well and a pleasant experience was had by us all. I have to admit the service was excellent. One of us had the vegetarian brunch which was good quality and delicious. One had eggs royale again excellent quality. Pancakes with berries was to die for. The service that we received was first class by the delightful Mariusz who made our experience at the venue very pleasurable and outstanding. He was approachable, professional and above all had us in stitches with his sense of humour. A true credit to the company.

Immensely slow service. I was seated at the bar, and it took 20-25 minutes to get anyone’s attention to order a drink. Unfortunately, I ordered my brunch and never got a chance to eat it.. I had a commitment, could not wait 1+ hours to get my food. Nice place, not great service or efficiency. I would not recommend.
