Popped in for a meal, no booking, but we were made most welcome, food was fresh, portions large, very flavourful, staff friendly, would recommend to other potential diners.

Excellent food the best Indian in Carlisle family run, lovely staff cannot recommend enough. Visit often and the food is always amazing.

Our first visit to the Waterloo and it did not disappoint at all. Our food was outstanding and the service was excellent.

This spot is a 10/10. Service was quick and efficient! Staff members were all so lovely and the place itself really is amazing. The food I have no complaints about, everything was made to perfection and you could really tell it was made with the love and respect it deserves. This definitely is a place I will be going time and time again. DONT miss out people!!!

Like Napoleon we were defeated at Waterloo. It was our first time here and a busy car park is always a good sign. The food is excellent. The portion sizes are very generous, we could have easily taken half of it home as we couldn't finish it and we can eat. Service was very good It was great to see a busy restaurant I would highly recommend

I was recommended by a friend that I doubted. Nonetheless i booked tonight for a informal business meeting. To my surprise i was genuinely impressed. Impressed enough to write my first review. The food I had tonight was delicious, to say the least. Everything infront of me was fresh and full of flavor. The staff were almost the best part. Great team of genuine people. Especially liked the banter of the gentleman behind the bar. I have a new favourite Indian restaurant.

I had my best friends surprise 40th here. And it was perfect from start to finish. I couldn't tell you how many times I've eaten here and had take aways from here, so it was my first choice for this meal. We were a large party with mixes of dietary requirements which can be hard for a restaurant. The food was amazing and so was the service. They always go above and beyond to help. It's over a 20 mile round trip for us and it's worth the drive every time. One of my favourite places to eat

Lived in Cumbria for two years & we try & dine out once a month. Khan's at Waterloo is one of our better experiences. Nice choice of vegetarian options , attentive staff & not too long waiting inbetween courses. Lovely dishes of food & plenty of it. We will definitely go back

Drove from Preston to Carlisle just for this meal and definitely not disappointed!! We have a toddler who is lactose intolerant and the staff went above and beyond anything I could’ve wished for to ensure he could eat and enjoy his meal just as we did! Cannot thank you enough and will keep driving 200 mile round trip to visit here again and again!

So good we ate here twice. We stayed nearby for three nights and having enjoyed our meal on the Saturday evening we returned on Monday night. The Keema nan was fabulous but the garlic naan totally sublime. Our curries were both the best we'd ever had, Naga Chicken and Chicken Saag. The portion sizes are very good and the food prices excellent. We will be back if in the area again.

Lovely meal lots of flavour and plenty of food. Very reasonably priced for the amount of food you get and even offered to let us take leftovers home. Would definetly go back again the staff were very polite and attentive.

This must be one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to, look forwards to their food, really friendly staff with great service It might be some 200 miles from my home town, but a place I always visit when ever I'm passing up the M6 I can and even grab a takeaway to bring home and stock up my freezer You won't be disappointed

5 stars does not do this place justice! Everything about Khan’s is top class! The food is delicious. I’ve eaten at every curry house in Carlisle and none of them could lace Khan’s boots! The Sweet Naga Masala is to die for, but the sundries and other dishes are always perfect. The staff can also not be faulted. You are always greeted with a warm welcome and throughout your meal you receive nothing but good manners and service from them. This place is if not the best place for a meal in Carlisle.

We turned up at 18:55 for our table booked at 19:00 only to find the car park was full. We parked our cars and walked in about 19:00 and we’re told to sit in the lobby. Our drinks orders were taken and we then waited for our table. Around 50 minutes later we were taken to our table. As we made our orders we asked if there would be any discount due to the wait, only to be told that the staff had heard us being rude. We asked as to what we had been rude about and they said their timekeeping, which we thought was warranted. All in all it was good food but we were there over 3 hours and the staff were continuously rude about the latter predicament. Will not return. Shame about the staff.

Wow just wow fantastic restaurant friendly staff clean well laid out restaurant.Food was fantastic fresh hot well presented some items I had not seen before not a massive menu but why have that many choices ? No need when the restaurant cooks all the items so good. Stater main sides snd two beers one sift drink £50Great food great value. Definitely recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

Currently take away only, in lockdown. We had three meals tonight from the Khan family. Once again the food was superb, the taste of the Karella chicken is unforgettable. Also tried the Khan’s Special Biriani....chicken and lamb....which had a great variety of flavours. The meal was packed well, still hot, and on time.

Delicious curry from this restaurant! The vegetarian main course of cauliflower & spinach Gobi was particularly good. The chicken used in another dish (cannot remember name of it) was particularly good quality. They do not deliver but it was well worth the 2 mile trip to collect. I simply rang 01228 549200, spoke to a human who was knowledgeable and able to advise about their menu, ordered & paid, and collected 40 minutes later at a social distance. Quite refreshing...

this restaurant never ceases to amaze, from the moment your greeted by front of house until you leave, they are so professional in all aspects of there service, they cant do enough to oblige, the food itself has always been top class never dissapoints, my wife and i are working through the menu gradually, if you need any help with any of the dishes they are on hand to explain them to you,

Had Khan's chicken chasni with pilau rice.Never been let down here and certainly wasn't tonight.The dish, recommended by the management as they know my tastes, was everything I would expect and was also a most pleasant surprise from this quality establishment.Very spicy (for me) but most palatable at the same time.A very good option if you like a strong flavour.As always, prompt, attentive and friendly service.

I could not recommend this restaurant enough, go give it a go if you are in the area. Restrictions aside that is. The hostess was delightful and we will be back when permitted. Best wishes to you all at Khan's. x

I have been to this restaurant a lot and every time I go it is as amazing as the last. The food always tastes amazing and comes quickly, the service is very friendly and some of the best I have experienced from any restaurant in Carlisle, which always makes it even more enjoyable. Overall an incredible experience and I 100% recommended it to anyone looking for a nice meal and a good time.

Went here the other week and i can’t help to say but the food from here is outstanding! Fresh, flavourful and bursting with flavour! I’ve had my share from the Manchester Curry Mile, eating at nearly every curry place, but the quality and service that Khan’s provides outweighs each and every one of those restaurants. Not what you’d expect from a small city vs. a large city. I ordered the Salmon Bhuna and it was just gorgeous. My mother’s Lamb Biriyani was delicious and beautifully presented, best biriyani presentation we’ve ever been given! The service given by this small but mighty family restaurant was something that makes you want to come back. Thank you Khan’s as we will definitely be back again!

My husband and I visited Khans on Thursday for the first time, as Indian food is our favourite cuisine.We were not disappointed it was beautiful.The flavours of the food was simply outstanding!! The cheese nan was the best we have ever had,it was huge. The staff delivered 1st class service, especially the young man who waited on our table, he was very polite and his manners were impeccable!! He was an absolute credit to his mother who owns Khans. In fact everyone was hands on and worked so hard. If you are ever in Carlisle and enjoy Indian food, please pay Khans a visit, you will not be disappointed. This was our visit but we will definitely go back. We live in Whitehaven so it is only about 1 hour away. This is one of the very best.

Ok, no sugar coating, no exaggeration, this restaurant was so good it had me momentarily considering how I could move my life out to Carlise!My dad, brother and I were staying in the town for a 3 x day golf trip and Khan's was recommended. We're curry veterans and big foodies and it's a tradition that we have an Indian dinner on the first night. Khan's was so good we cancelled other reservations and went back!There's too much to write here so I'll summarise.The restaurant (as you can probably guess) is run by the Khan family who completely get the art of hosting and caring for their customers. Polite, knowledgable, respectful and moreover, very proud of their restaurant and the food - you can see it in the way they talk passionately about the flavours and different dishes. Always on hand and so friendly - a very impressive team.The restaurant is traditional with a modern edge, a friendly, comfortable space decorated beautifully. The furniture is wonderful (v comfy chairs!) and the vibe is spot on. Now the food! Everything we had was standout. Traditional dishes elevated to a new level of flavour combinations. They really know what they're doing and you can tell everything is made to order, and importantly, distinctly unique. The peshwari naan we had was made bespoke by hand, to feed three people - not just a standard naan put in the oven.The flavours and intensity in each dish was amazing. The Sweet Naga Tikka Masala managed to be both deep and complex as well as sweet and spicy. Just the right amount of heat (spice) but with creamy, deep red flavours too.The Saag Gosht is a masterpiece and the Bangla Salmon Bhuna was remarkable. Savoury and delicate but with an exotic feel - so so good.I could go on and on but I implore you to check this place out, you will not be disappointed!Allow the Khan's to guide you based on your tastes and desires and their recommendations will be spot on!Enjoy!Chris

Disappointed with the service and the food . The female manager looked put out that we had arrived on Bank Holiday Sunday to order a takeaway. It was a busy time for them but if they had just said that we would have gone elsewhere We were happy to wait 45 minutes We were not happy with her attitude And were even less happy with the food The meat dishes had virtually no meat and the few pieces there were, were swimming in sweet sauce ... there was sugar in literally every curry dish we ordered .. even the extra spicy ‘saag’This may appeal to a more western palate but I’m afraid it wasn’t to our taste If you want an authentic Indian restaurant in Cumbria with a host who is happy to have your custom then sadly this one isn’t it

I live in an area that is full of Indian restaurants (Bradford/Kirklees) and they have nothing on Khan’s. It’s my favourite Indian anywhere. Sometimes a visit is the only way my girlfriend can entice me all the way to Carlisle!The food is always perfect and the staff are lovely - always willing to go the extra mile. As an example, I told them how much I enjoyed their mint sauce and they gave me two whole tubs to take home for free, along with two popadoms. They also went out of their way to send us a dessert from Newcastle because we asked if it was on the menu and it was not. This is exactly how customer service should be done and so many restaurants would do themselves a favour by taking notes (*cough* Mumtaz Leeds *cough*)

Anwar, Thomina and the team at Khan’s at the Waterloo are at the top of their game. Tonight’s food (which I collected) was absolutely outstanding, it always is to be fair. Their passion for food shines through and they are the nicest people you could wish to meet, and the young staff were lovely and very professional at the front of house. We are here recently, 2 adults and 2 children. The food was absolutely delicious with very big portions and full of flavour. The staff were wearing masks and gloves and kept everything clean it was brilliant to see hand gel on every table and everyone kept their distance. We absolutely recommend this restaurant for anyone around. It was brilliant and when we holiday here again we will definitely be back.

Maharani curry. Had a beautiful meal with four friends last week. Lovely restaurant with efficient and pleasant staff. Onion bjajis just as they should be, I then had the most delicious Maharani curry for a change and it was fab with coconut rice. Only criticism, I was too full to do justice to the size of the naans although had a good try. We will definitely be back soon.

We collected a takeaway last month and pleasantly enjoyed it. I had the chicken tikka masala and my wife had the korma which were both really delicious. We had a couple of sides like the naan and extra chips which were great. Thanks

Located just outside of Carlisle this restaurant does the best Indian food in the city. Staff are all friendly and helpful. I collected my food tonight but will be visiting for a sit down meal once the lock down is lifted,

We visited just before the lock-down and were very impressed with Anwar and Tamina along with the family and team, food was perfect, service was as good and the welcome is so friendly.We also took a few takeaways home with us to freeze for a future night when perhaps we couldn't travel and were we right to do so.During these difficult times my comfort food is a good curry.And it doesn't get much better then Khan's at the Waterloo, or Mr Mia's at Shuhag Wigton.

My wife and I were staying nearby for an overnight stay to break up our journey from Scotland to down south and this restaurant was 5 mins along the road. We couldn't sit in as we have two young kids who were in bed so we ordered a takeaway. On collection the staff were very friendly and the 15% off when you collect was a nice surprise. The food was so so good. One of the best Indian meals I've had in a while. When we pass next time I'll make a point of eating it. Food highly recommended.

Took my son and Grandson for an evening out and we all had a fabulous evening. The service was fabulous and when the lovely lady took our order it showed why this is so highly rated restaurant every meal was designed and put together to our individual tastes. When our meals were served every dish was perfect and to our individual taste. The restaurant was very busy but the owner (our lady) moved around effortlessly and worked extremely hard to see everyone was well taken care of. We all enjoyed the meals all so tasty and two of us had to leave some as there was more than we could manage. All three of us will be back very soon as we had a great family evening and thank you to all the staff at the Khan you a fantastic.

I have had both take away food and also dined in at Khan's at the Waterloo. The food is always excellent and very tasty. The service sets this restaurant apart from others I have used. The owners of the restaurant are always on hand to offer advice on different dishes and adapt them to personal tastes. Anwar and Tamina are lovely people and always welcoming.I would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Be sure to book your table on a weekend to avoid being disappointed because it can be fully booked.

I have previously written a review for this place and I felt it necessary to leave another after what me and my son witnessed tonight. We were waiting in the waiting area for our takeaway and sat across from us were two young ladies, one whom was extremely rude from the minute she walked in behind us. I believe they were also waiting on their order, which the young lady behind the bar informed them would be ready shortly. While sat there waiting for their food one of the girls was appallingly rude, mouthing abuse every few minutes. At one point she made a remark about the Indian people working there being smelly, as well as other profanities which were simply ignorant and stemming on racism. I would like to say well done to the management for standing up for your staff and business! Our meal was as always beautiful and your hard work and effort don’t go unnoticed.

I have visited this place with my family as a treat and because we love Indian food. We've got professionally served and staff was going extra mile to deal with our requests. The food was outstanding and very tasty. Naan bread was so soft and fresh alongside with main dishes and nice fragrant pilau rice. Came to pick up a delivery and the time was wrong which was there mistake, I waited an extra 35 mins when I placed my order 1 hour 45 mins ago, because I sat there and sighed a couple of times and spoke to my sister next to me how I was tired and hungry when I asked for some money to be nocked off the bill for the inconveniences the manger started shouting at me telling me to take it or leave it, absolutely discussing service, order to collect 35 mins late and then to be shouted at by the manger is disgusting when no bad comments were said only a few sighs and saying I was tired and Hungry, wouldn’t recommend this place at all the manager had disgusting attitude terrible will definitely be going somewhere else and not he spoken to the way I did!!!!

The quality of the food is simply outstanding, and Khan's continues to go from strength to strength. If you haven't been to Khan's, try it, I promise that you will not be dissapointed.

Lovely food but we waited 30 mins before we were asked for our drinks order, then over another 30 mins before our food arrived, Not the best customer service for my first visit there.

We arrived without booking on a Friday night at 6.45, greeted extremely warmly and seated promptly. It is a long time since we have had such authentic Indian food, with the service to match. The staff were attentive, polite and went out of their way to help, serve and advise us on our choices. The food when it arrived was so tasty and flavoursome. Sadly we had to depart without tea or coffee as we had our daughter to collect otherwise it would have been delightful to linger longer.

My first time eating Indian/Bangali food and I was definatley not disappointed, the food was delicious and there was no problem with cutomising the order to our groups needs, the staff were lovely and more than happy to help! Would definatley recomend :)

We visited to celebrate a family birthday. We did not know in advance that there was a 'happy hour' menu, as this was not listed online, but it was still available when we arrived and suited us well, so we all chose from that special menu. All the food was delicious, beautifully presented and served with a smile. The staff were attentive and courteous and we felt both relaxed and as if we were being treated to a special evening.

We were in a local hotel and found this place on tripadvisor, and it didn’t disappoint. Lovely staff and tasty food, very reasonable too.

My boyfriend and I visited this evening and things couldn’t have gone better. We had read the previous reviews before visiting and it’s clear the staff really take these on board as they made a point of mentioning things (our naan arrived folded for example and they asked if this was ok... which of course it was as who wants their naan flopping on the table like the previous review suggests... and half of the authenticity is being able to tear off a huge naan!)

Went here on the way past and asked politely to use the bathroom. Was considering coming back to eat here on way back. Girl was very rude and did not let one woman use the bathroom.. was very rude about it.

We had an absolutely delicious meal here but the thing that made it even better was the feeling of friendliness and welcome we got from the owners and their family and staff. Thank you so much. Highly recommend for the delicious food and the atmosphere. Fabulous!

I've visited this restaurant on a number of occasions with friends in a group of 6/8 people and was impressed with the food.

First visit to this restaurant under new ownership. Previous ownership as Rahi was always consistent and good service and value for money. Like a number of reviews on here, service is very slow. Our booking was 7.00pm and we were early but starter was served at 8.05pm. We did not have popadom. As we were a party of 4, however, conversation was good and it just meant we had a few drinks before any food. Food was mixed; 1 of the party it was very good but the other 3 very average. Presentation was the worst in any Indian restaurant ever. One naan bread for each couple was brought out on one plate one on top of the other to save table space. Few Indian restaurants in Britain do what Southern Spanish based Indian restaurants do and cut the Naan in to Pizza size slices and serve in a deep bowl. Khans also choose not to serve main dishes in metal bowls with tea light burner under to allow the food to remain warm and this is a pity. One positive as we always prefer to end on a higher note, the Lamb Tika Masala was wonderful.

This was a committee celebration dinner. We had booked and pre-ordered. Just as well, as the restaurant was busy. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Excellent choice of dishes and sides. Generous portions. Delicious.

Dined here later night and found the staff very pleasant, unfortunately the service was extremely slow and struggled to get drinks which had to be prompted more than once and the dining experience for popps, starter and main over two hours in duration which is pretty slow.

My wife and I loved the food very much last time we visited, that we came again last night. The restaurent was busy & staff where on their feet busy serving everyone. We were seated as soon as seats where available. The food here is lovely, and is so fresh & authentic! I have never seen & tasted such a large naan, the chicken jalfrezi was so colourful tasty & my mix grill was sizzing hot.

My husband and I ate here tonight and we waited around 10 mins to be asked if we would like a drink, it took a while for them to take our order and then for the food to arrive. We asked for more drinks and waited 15 mins then asked again as we never got them. I was drinking coke and it was flat I'm assuming it was out of a bottle. The staff were nice but very slow. Food was ok nothing special. And expensive for what it is. It was a total of 2 hours 15 mins for a starter and a main to be served.

Was recommended so was my first visit. Was not disappointed in any way. Given a really friendly welcome. Menu was quite extensive and they help with your choice etc. Food was excellent and the best Irish Coffee I have tasted in a long time.

We visit this Indian restaurant regularly as the food is amazing and the service is spot on, attentive but not over the top. We have never had a poor meal here, it is consistently good and the staff are always on hand to explain what goes into a dish, how spicy it is and they are happy to tweak the recipe to personal taste.

Had really lovely curry on every visit with huge nann bread the young staff are super helpful and even advised that one rice and one naan between two of us was pleantly.... people who are complaining about price I suggest you make your own in future ... I havent ever found it over priced!

We usually like to book in the restaurant but a new baby in the family dictated it was easier to get a take away and eat at home. We so enjoyed our meals, as always. Khans really are a fabulous Indian restaurant: family run and they care about your experience. We cannot recommend highly enough.

We have a curry every week and every where we go and I like spicy curries but this was on another level. They have 3 chilli levels 1 = spicy, 2 = very spicy and 3 = are you kidding me.

My friend had a birthday and we enjoyed a quiet celebration over afternoon tea at Khan’s. Food and drinks were lovely, and this new afternoon tea.... so far only on Sunday.... was a treat. The owners, as always, made us very welcome. We will be back.

We have been to Khan’s several times and always had a lovely meal. The menu is extensive, well laid out and the descriptions are easy to understand. Service is impeccable and staff are helpful when choosing a dish. The food is delicious and plentiful and very good value for money. The restaurant is well set out and comfortable. Favourite dishes are the chicken chaat starter and the lamb shashlick ...... popadoms and naan are lovely too. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed.

Our first visit here after many good reports , it was a little bit of a let down as we waited one hour from starter to main understandably they had a big party in ,the food was nice but nothing special , I think if they have a party of 40 people in then I would give the best service to them and just say to other people your fully booked as I feel that’s why it has resulted in a review like mine ,when we left people that were booked in at 8.30pm weren’t going to be eating until about 9.15 as they were running late ,I am just pleased that wasn’t us ,can’t fault the staff for apologising quite a few times for our wait .

Visited for the first time on Saturday night, excellent food, staff very friendly, lovely atmosphere. Had prawn puri to start, was delicious. Planning our next visit!!

Came here for a visit as we were staying at hotel which is local to Khan's at the Waterloo. The food is absolutely amazing and the staff are such a great and welcoming team, no rushing you out the door and plenty of time to enjoy the delicious food. I was recommended the chicken chaat as a starter and if you visit it is defo a must have! Naan bread was about the size of the table and we had the tikka masala and butter chicken which were both delicious!! Thank you again for such a great visit we will most definitely be back :)

Visited with friends on a Saturday evening. I can’t say enough good things about this place. The staff are absolutely fantastic and can’t do enough for you. The food was amazing. So much choice I ordered far too much. This wasn’t a problem though, as the staff very kindly put our leftovers into takeaway containers, so this morning I had the best breakfast ever .

We have been going to this little gem for many years.

Last visit we had was before xmas, but really enjoyed it, excellent food and friendly service. Good luck to Khan's, they deserve to do well.
