Had been here on a late lunch upon the recommendation of a close pal. Ambience is fantastic and the staffs are very polite. We ordered Ghee masala dosa, idli, vada and poori/chana. Masala dosa was the best. But it was served without the coconut chutney which very unheard in a South Indian cuisine. Idlis were too small but quite soft. Puri chana was disappointing… they served the chana within the puri that made it soggy and difficult to enjoy the puri. Restaurants is not cheap if I compare it with other South Indian joints and taste wasn’t great either. I would not venture again. Disappointed with the taste of the foods and big thumbs up for the decor and staffs.

I have been going to Ragam since the early 90s. It was a restaurant that changed little over a decade since my first visit. The manager was also the same familiar figure during time. But I was surprised during the last visit. Everything thing seemed different. The food tasted good but the menu had changed ...not for the better. Some classical dishes have been dropped and portions have become smaller. The prices are therefore a bit inflated for basic things like dosas. The change in decor is also a bit much...neither traditional nor modern. I have no complaints about the service.

Had such a wonderful time at ragam this evening. We had taken our dog with us and the 2 boys (I really should have noted their names, they are absolutely stars) made so much effort to make sure she was comfortable hanging there and got her a bowl of water as well and offered for us to put her up in the sofa. She was so happy. The food was spectacular. Masala dosa, prawn, lamb eliyarthu, Gobi 65 - we’re the items we ordered. My favourite part of tonight was the hospitality and service shown to us by the 2 boys manning the floor today. I will go back again more for them than the food :)

Wow! It’s been about 15 years since I was here and it’s still an awesome curry house. Every table was taken so I’d definitely recommend booking. Excellent, excellent restaurant in central London for authentic Malayali food, we were a group of eight celebrating a birthday and were a diverse crowd, and the dishes were incredible for everyone who came (enough that a lot of us intend to come here again :), the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the decor reminded me of home in the coastal tropics. Recommend this place to anyone familiar with or wanting to explore the tastes of coastal South Asia and south east Asia - food rich in the flavors of coconut and fragrant spices. We unfortunately forgot to take a photo of all the food when it arrived, hopefully will do next time :) Favourite dishes: Kerala porotta, Fish moilee, Lamb ularthiyathu

The dosa was a lot thicker than any other places I've ever had it at. The filling was nice and tasty. Both curries were ordered were fiery hot, we were asked before to be fair but all the same the level of heat was intense. Friendly service . The mango lassi was the highlight of the meal as it had cardamom seeds in there which I thought was a stroke of genius. Not particularly cheap but it's to be expected considering the area.

Really disappointed because the food was good and servers very nice. I ordered several vegan vegetable dishes, and then asked for some hot sauce. The server brought over a huge bowl of sauce (which surprised me) which surprised me, which had giant chunks of meat floating in it. I asked if there was meat in it and he said “no”, to which I said I was a strict vegan and he apologized and brought over a new one. They charged me £4 for this sauce, which is already absurd being that I had just asked for a tiny bit of hot sauce, but also that there was literal meat in it (they had clearly scooped it out of a brewing meat dish) and when asked they had denied it. Pretty appalled and would never eat here again with any kind of dietary restrictions or allergies due to cross contamination. Edit: Adding on (and reducing to 2 stars) after seeing the owner's response, which in tone I feel speaks for itself. You're an indian restaurant, you should know that most of your patrons are, if not vegan, at least vegetarian - there wasn't even an apology for giving meat (in fact, the server argued with me that there was no meat when there was clearly chicken floating in the bowl). Hot sauce is a very typical condiment to request with your meals, and every other indian restaurant I've been to has provided this. I didn't ask for my meal to "not be dry", I requested hot sauce because it wasn't spicy enough for my taste. People have lots of dietary restrictions and allergies, you can't just give people meat. Additionally, charging an unexpected whopping 4 pounds for a side of hot sauce is absurd to start with.

Hidden gem in London. This place was recommended to me for authentic South Indian food. For starters, their paratha was out of this world. It was both fresh and fluffy without being too oily and in my opinion is a must try. Chicken Ularthiyathu was delicious and different, definitely worth a try, although it is spicier than your usual curry. Nice environment, kind staff and clean store. Prices aren’t too bad for London either as I paid around £15 for everything.

Had really high expectations but was quite disappointed by the quality and portion of food. The ambience no doubt is excellent and the staff are nice to an extent but the food is not worth at all. It is not even close to authentic Indian food and the quantity is abysmal. We ordered three dishes and all of them were totally bland and full of oil and food colourings. What really ticked me off was the mandatory service charge with no mention whatsover of it's discretionary nature (not even in the menu or the receipt). When I asked it to be removed, the staff got rude and only took it off after I had to remind him that it's not legal to impose service charge. For all Indian customers atleast: go there for the less chaotic and peaceful environment in Central London but try the food at your own risk.

Used to be one of the fav places, but my last visit (early December) made it the last (unfortunately). Firstly, they rejected my booking I made in advance by saying it was fully booked. However, when I called them they said there are some spaces and they can keep a table for us. Interestingly, we spent 80 min there and half of the restaurant was empty. Moreover, at 7.20pm when we already payed they asked us to leave (which we were already about to do) saying that they have a reservation, however again, at that time the whole restaurant was empty. Idk what exactly but smth changed in service since my last visit in June. Staff seem changed and the previous team was a way more friendly….honestly, don’t have a feeling to come back again … My previous review was like: So far the best Indian food I tried in London. Tried a lot of things (don’t remember the names) and liked theme all, including tea and coffee. Will definitely come back!

Lovely little place with a nice refurb, using wooden elements to create a nice vibe. I really appreciate that they do the traditional curry house classics as well as their own south Indian specialities. I tried one of the latter with king prawns and it was absolutely delicious, big hits of warming spices coming through. Friend's fish curry also full of flavour. Shared a veg jalfrezi too, that was also good, strong, slightly sharp. Starter of aubergine fingers in light batter was another excellent dish. Almost a 5/5; prawns and fish could be a little more tender, but they were still fine and enjoyable. Veg jalfrezi did have variety but could have even more; add aubergine, peppers etc. like my local Tiffin Tin. Service good aside from forgetting the water, friendly and polite too. I will definitely be returning to try more dishes very soon.

Ordered a take away. Arrived very quickly. Onion Bhaji was blackened & very dry. They sent the wrong order and when I rang the restaurant to let them know, the level of customer service was absolutely dreadful. I ordered a Chicken Tikka Rezala, the box said a Chicken Tikka Masala but what they actually sent was a Korma. I think I know the difference between almond and coconut & never in my life have I eaten a pale yellow dish tasting of coconut & nothing like Masala. I was accused of being a liar and the person I spoke to was so extremely rude. We weren’t even asking for our dish or any money off. We have always used them in the past for 20 years but very very disappointed this time & sad to say that never again after the way I was spoken to.

Large portions and kind staff go a long way to make a place good and this is that one. The lamb Rogan gosh was delicious. The sauce was thick and the lamb plentiful. the Mattar Panneer and Dhal home made. The poppadoms were fine and crunchy and came with a large quantity of condiments. I would say that the peshwari narn could be much better as it was a bit dry. The restaurant is one of the oldest in London and has lots of character. Shame about the plastic flowers which I believe are unnecessary. The staff were polite and gave us some after chocolate. I learnt to play the aftereight game thanks to a special person who was with me. Thank you for making the night memorable.
