Fantastic food on a quiet night in the restaurant. We wanted to go out for dinner whilst staying in Blockley and with the village cafe restaurant fully booked, we opted for the crown hotel. The menu was small but the food was excellent. Two of us had the duck salad which was excellent, one had the smoked salmon and one the prawn cocktail - all generously portioned and fresh. For mains three of us had steak in mushroom sauce, the steaks were cooked well, the chips were great and the mushroom sauce lovely. Our fourth party member had the spinach and ricotta tortellini with pesto and it was another generous and excellent portion. We left well fed and happy!

We had a long weekend in the Cotswolds and stayed in a cottage in the High Street in Blockley. The Crown Hotel was a few doors away and 7 of us popped in for a quick drink in the bar. The service was dreadful, and one of the staff (near the restaurant) rude and aggressive. Not a pleasant experience, one to avoid. There are other far better places in Blockley, see my other reviews.

Not where else to eat on a Monday evening in Blockley.. Just average but 3 courses good value. Had Beef Stroganoff served with roast new potatoes which seemed strange usually has rice. Not very popular with locals. Nice trerrace for drinks.

We stayed in Blockley for 2 weeks en wanted to have a traditional Sunday Roast. Having had diner the night before in The Great Western Arms (very good), we decided to go to the Crown Hotel on Sunday. Only the pub seemed open (no one in the restaurant to greet us) so we ordered there. The drinks were nice, the waiter friendly and although both tv and radio were on, we were looking forward to our meal. I don't know what went wrong there, but our plate of food was full with dry, hard, burned and re-heated things. It actually made my hand sore to try and cut through it all. It looked like the carvery from last Sunday, heated and reheated again. We didn't stay for deserts.

Such a shame it seems this lovely property has been run down in such a delightful village. Our bathroom had mould on the walls, a toilet seat that need replacing, lots of mould growing in and around the shower. The four poster room has potential but mismatched furniture and pictures and awful mattress was not worth the £149 we paid for it. Staff were very friendly but breakfast was average. No smoked salmon! Only breakfast tea! Run out of a lot of things apparently! Hope they bring this hotel back to life.

We were staying in the Crown for a family wedding. On the previous evenings we ate with the family. On our last evening we just wanted something light before going to bed so we went to the bar. We had seen the dining room where we breakfasted set up for dining, but we wanted less. Like the rest of the hotel the bar area was clearly a collection of odd rooms added together which possibly lead to the lack of atmosphere.. The larger dining room was full of bags of laundry but we were told it was not in use.The young Moldovan barman was very pleasant and efficient, There were a few locals having a drink and two couples sat on the benches outside in the sun. We both had scampi and salad which suited us fine - no-one else was eating. Perhaps the very nature of the bar layout made it difficult to create a buzz of any sort. However like the Crown itself the lack of a mine host was most obvious here.

Horrendous. Don't eat here, and the manager doesn't care because despite my email he didn't even respond!! I purchased a groupon for 4 people to eat from the table d'hote menu. My husband and I took our grandparents along as a birthday treat for our Gramp. The starters arrived and the tempura veg were warm at best. The pate was ok but certainly did not look homemade. The mains I am afraid were terrible. My beef was so dry I had to wash it down with my drink and the sauce was not a sauce, it was a thick gravy. The chicken breast was also dry. Two people left half of it and the potatoes were also overlooked and unpleasant. The veg was well cooked and the mushroom sauce on the chicken was pleasant but a little on the short side. Our Gramp decided to buy a bottle of wine and requested the wine list. He selected and the waiter said it was sadly unavailable, he selected another which again was unavailable. In the end we were offered a choice of 3 wines from the whole list. One red, one white and a rose. Desserts was an issue in the fact that the only ice cream available to accompany them was chocolate which on arrival had ice particles formed throughout. None of the desserts were homemade and on such a limited menu I found it astonishing. A thoroughly disappointing experience and the only reason we did not complain on the night was due to the fact the waiting staff were very pleasant and spoke little English and I believe we would not have got our point across. However, I did email..... No response!! I'm unsure whether our food was inferior due to us purchasing the groupon or chef related. However, we were bitterly disappointed. Had this been just us, We would have returned the food and we would have left.

Visited for a meal only. Cheap pub food, nothing special - watery fish in fish and chips and an unidentifiable substance billed as crumbed scampi. The real treat was the group of sixty-somethings at the bar talking about whether one should sell the house in Paris or the flat in London, dahling. Now that was priceless.

18 years ago, my husband and I stayed in Blockley for our honeymoon. We returned to the Cotswolds for our anniversary and decided to call in at the Crown for lunch en route. After wandering back to the cottage where we had stayed and reminiscing for a while we were ready to eat. On entering the front door, we walked into a room full of junk by mistake! On finding the bar we were surprised to find it empty. A Saturday afternoon in August! A nice young man took our drinks drinks and food order. We chose to sit in the small courtyard in the sun. When the food arrived we noticed that the same young man had put white gloves on to serve. They were very grubby. The scampi was fine and the salad dressing lovely but where was the tartare sauce? When we asked for vinager we were given a bottle with a tiny drop of cloudy liquid at the bottom. When we asked for more, he returned with the same bottle and were told it was all he could do right now! A hotel, serving food, with no vinager? I cannot fault the young man who served us. He was polite and his English was fantastic. Surely an old coaching inn in the middle of the Cotswolds should be packed on a Saturday afternoon. This place has the most amazing potential. Use it!

The hotel's website and bar menu states that they serve bar meals until 9pm. We arrived just before 8.45 to be told that they had stopped serving. There was no apology or explanation. As there were other people still eating their meals we could have at least been offered a sandwich or cheese platter. It's called customer service !!

We arrived at around 8.30 pm for dinner as a group of 8. The waiting staff were unfriendly and seemed more interested in making us order food so that they could close the kitchen. When the starters arrived, very promptly, two of them were cold and had to be returned to be heated. Overall the mains were ok but generally a very disappointing experience due to lack of care and a total lack of atmosphere.

We ate at the restaurant here. Being local, i was aware the restaurant didnt have the best rep, but my grandfather booked it and therefore went to eat here. We were sat in the lobby for over half an hour after booking the table. Three equally uninterested staff members gave us menus with spelling mistakes, (the front page explained how they were reinventing the 'dinning' experience)! Why would you not spell check this?! Very pricey and a little old fashioned menu. Steak was cold and sent back. Only one dish of potatoes - with 6 potatoes - brought to the table for 6 mains. Asked if anymore were coming, and although eventually came, it seemed a great deal of effort. Port medallions were tough and serious lack of jus for such a dry meal. Coffee was served in a teapot?!? Were setting up breakfast at 9.30 as if we were keeping them. In the end we just gave up, and found the whole experience ridiculous. Very expensive, disappointing meal out.

As soon as I walked in I realised this place had the feel of the Cosy Club chain of restaurants. Pictures all over the walls, mostly portraits, a very young team of staff, and a slight atmosphere of contrived cosiness. Really busy though, so obviously very popular, and there is at least the superficial snugness of a Victorian coffeehouse. I ordered a latte, which was mediocre - it arrived in less than a minute after ordering, which led me to believe that perhaps its preparation had been a little slap-dash. The waitress seemed pleasant enough, if a little vacant, so I would guess the coffee-making training had been insufficient, rather than a careless attitude.

Popular pub in a nice setting by the river with a good selection of ales. Food was excellent and service first class. Will return at some stage.

Absolutely Appalling! Bought a ‘fresh’ loaf and it turns out to be mouldy on the day we bought it !

We booked a table of 8 here on the evening of the Christmas lights switch on and Market. Despite the pub being rammed as expected, and us all ordering different food, it arrived quickly and was excellent (Beer was good as well 👍). We will definitely be back next time we visit Cirencester

The pub/hotel is on the High Street, a few minutes walk to all the shops, restaurants and other pubs in Moreton-in-Marsh. We had a four-poster double room (no.3) on the first floor. Although quite compact, it had almost everything needed for our one-night stay. The bed was very comfortable, and a fan and oil heater were provided. The double-glazing was very efficient so the room was quiet even though it overlooked a busy road. The shower room was huge, with a powerful shower, lots of hot water, fluffy towels and a bathrobe. There was a kettle with tea etc and biscuits, but we couldn't work out how to use the Nespresso machine. There were enough sockets for our chargers. The breakfast choice was extensive and the food really excellent (best cheese omelette I have had in years; my husband's full veggie breakfast was also good). There is a small car park, although there is free parking on the high street anyway. The pub/hotel garden looked pretty, but it was raining, so we didn't try it.
