Great menu, plenty of choice. Enjoyed three stunning started, so filling that could not manage all of the main course - which was also tasty. Good wine range and everything great value for money. Not too busy so able to catch up with friends. Have always had a positive experience here

Excellent quality of food and nice service in a unique market hall area. However, the menu is extremely limited and a vegetarian person can only pick one single meal from the main course, as everything else is with meat.

Second visit to the restaurant - this time with more family - and it was equally as impressive as the first time. Lovely atmosphere (candlelit in the shed, nice and cosy) and a great pre-dinner drink at the bar below as we were early. Can highly recommend the Heppington sparkling that they do! Food-wise it was also great in the restaurant. Beef tartare, rabbit ragu among the starter options plus some outstanding 'snacks' of mini peppers with a warm marscapone dip which was sublime. Main courses of whole lemon sole, pork chop and lamb shank were all excellent too with plenty of veg and salad from the owner's farm. Pudding was a nice and varied experience too - a warm chocolate fondant was just right and gooey in all the right places while the milk pudding was an excellent surprise. Our favourite though was the cucumber granita that came with a shot of gin. A great wine list too and it was nice to enjoy more local wine - this time an Ortega by nearby Westwell wines.

We absolutely loved this restaurant. We visited on a Friday evening and the setting in the market hall was quite magical. The menu was really appealing- I’m pescatarian and there were loads of options. We absolutely loved the food. I had a cured trout and preserved lemon starter followed by lemon sole with cockles. Both were superb. Bizarrely one of the highlights was the side of pink fir potatoes with garlic butter- I never thought I’d get so excited by potatoes but they were divine!! My husband had beef tartare followed by the lamb shank which he also rated highly. For dessert we had a cucumber and gin granita which was a lovely refreshing end to the meal. Service was efficient and friendly and the cocktails and wine were great too. I felt the quality of the food more than justified the prices and we’d definitely go back next time we’re in Canterbury!

We would regard the goods shed highly so when it was my friends birthday we suggested to have lunch there . Now the food was exceptional however we waited over one hour to get starters , there were two members of staff on when we visited in the restaurant- neither were “on it “ we had to request bread twice , which thank god we had as we waited so long . At no point did the team of two advise us of the delay . When it got to 3 Pm I approached the male waiter and told him How disappointed we were and it was not good enough , he apologised and admitted the kitchen made ana error with the orders - we managed to negotiate a bottle Of wine as a softener - we were not looked after as a table at all and I feel the same could be said for the other tables. and I do feel this restaurant should be keeping an eye on the tables. . May I just add the restaurant was not that busy . I will not be rushing back .

Sited in a repurposed engine shed (the tracks are under the floor boards) there's a lot of character to the room. Service was excellent, attentive and informative without being at all intrusive. The food was delicious, from the scallops and the cured trout starters to the venison haunch and chalk stream trout mains everything was perfectly cooked and well presented.

Excellent concept, which i have seen before but never so well to delivered. The venue is an old train storage facility, right next to the train line. The venue has a small local produce market, a small dishes cafe, wine and beer/ales to purchase. The restaurant is slightly raised above the market level, with large arched windows overlooking the railway. The service was good. The food eas exceptional.

As the title suggests, I love The Goods Shed. Not only is it a veritable bustling indoor farmer’s market with a fishmonger, cheese shop, bakery, butcher, wine and charcuterie deli. Plus there is a place to buy spices, sweet treats, vegetable and store cupboard essentials. Inside is so much fun and the restaurant is so beautifully rustic. My family and I have dined here several times and there have been so many standouts. As with most restaurants and dining out experiences, personal preference plays a key role in your enjoyment of the food. Whilst I adored my scallop starter, the vegetarian main was a bit bland and not really something I would typically order. I have, however, had some excellent vegetarian dishes there so there is an element of personal tastes that has to be considered here because whilst it wasn’t my thing, I can attest to the fact that there wasn’t any issue with how the ingredients were cooked. I.e. the leeks and mushrooms were not reduced to mush. I just think that The Goods Shed puts a bit more effort into their meat and fish dishes. We ordered most of the menu and all agreed that the vegetarian dishes were the weakest from a flavour perspective. Desserts were very good too. The chocolate pot in particular was a highlight. Overall, I will always adore it here and will continue to come back for more but perhaps the veggie/vegan options need a bit more TLC. The best vegetarian dish I’ve had was a lentil thing back in the summer that blew my mind. See menus attached for this latest meal.

The Goods Shed's claim to fame is the local produce that it uses. So what you get varies month by month but, in my experience, if you like the ingredient on the menu, the chef will make something good with it. Portions are sized so that you stand a chance of making it through to a dessert, which is never a bad thing. This is not a dash in, eat quickly and get out sort of place. If you want a relaxed dinner with friendly (but sometimes busy) service, it's my favourite place in Canterbury. Yes - we'll be back!

We have been here several times and always rated it 5 star but for this visit it was disappointing. The ambience is still great but there were things that let it down. In general the staff were efficient and polite but we found the head waiter indifferent and, dare I say it quite grumpy. He may have had an off day but it didn't go unnoticed by us, and others. The scallop starter was lacking something, and the combination of flavours didn't quite work. The desert menu really needs an overhaul. With an autumn update. It really felt quite limiting. Where's the nod to seasonality and a fruit tart? However, the sea bass with beans was delicious as were the lamb pre starters. We will return as this is not the usual standard.

First time here, came for an anniversary meal on a Thursday evening. Really relaxing venue and can honestly say one of the best meals we have both had in a long time, it wasn’t overly expensive which is surprising given how good it was. Every course was superb, and the freshness and flavour was incredible. Something to be said for a place that changes its menu with what’s available from the market daily. The wine picked by the waiter was perfectly matched to our order and the staff were friendly and courteous. On our way home the next day we came back to have a drink at the bar and pick up food and wine to take home from the market, and this was also really good, a European tapas to go for £13 was enough for 4 people and just incredible. It’s a long way to go for a meal and a market for us but this place would be worth the trip. Really can’t say enough nice things about this place, a choice of here or Borough market and I’d probably come back here as more relaxing.

Excellent - as usual. We chose to take a couple of French friends out to dinner - something that we have done before (but with English guests). Both of our friends are used to frequenting good and reasonably priced restaurants in France and we were confident that they would appreciate Canterbury's British offering. They were blown away! From the moment of our arrival they were greeted in French (entirely spontaneously) and impressed with the standard of service and willingness to respond readily to requests. The menu was comprehensive and enticing and the food (and drink) itself speedily and well presented and a joy to experience. We tried to explain (in our halting French) the vegetable 'samphire' and at home later (sometime before midnight) we agreed on the French name - it isn't in the very large Larousse Dictionaire that we possess! A Superb evening and experience - many thanks (and congratulations) to All!

Great place to eat. I come there every time I go to Canterbury and I'm never disappointed, the welcome, the service, the location, the cuisine, but also the price everything is very good. You have nothing to envy of certain restaurants on the outskirts of the city, which call themselves gastronomic, your cuisine is much better. Congratulations to the chef. A pub with an absolutely lovely atmosphere in the centre of the beautiful Whitstable. The pub is authentic with a cozy feel and has plenty of board games on offer that everyone was getting into, making for a lovely vibe. The staff were friendly and attentive and the drinks on offer were lovely too. Felt like a warm, friendly inn with welcoming lights and friendliness after a busy day. Definitely stop off here if you visit the town.

Since Adrian retired and Andy and Clive left, the cafe (and showroom), have gone seriously downhill, £2 for a cup of Nescafe!!! only one or two customers, there is no atmosphere, or banter in the cafe or showroom, it's more or less been turned into a car showroom, i.e. only interested in closing deals, "goodbye, next! I don't think it will be long before it's closed!

Absolute little hidden gem. The Food is always delicious. Generous portions too and always consistent with quality. ROAST DINNERS ARE A MUST HAVE. There's nothing better than a pub with a brilliant work force behind it. Emma and her great team are amazing.
