Called in for a drink. Disinterested landlord could barely make eye contact with us. No attempt to converse and mumbled thank you as we left. There was no one else in the pub, I’m not surprised. We won’t go back.

Lovely traditional pub with 5 of the St Austell ales available on cask. Other pub in village only had two. Bar staff were friendly and welcoming and we had a great time on the nights we visited. Also took covid seriously with sanitizer and notices to wear masks when not seated which was nice.

Great Cornish drinks, fab historic interior largely preserved. Evening sun outside tables, lovely choice of crisps. Cannot understand what peeps are looking for when in Cornwall - something that feels like the Mediterranean or a Weatherspoon? Something trendy and corporate? This is the real deal go there before it vanishes. ❤️

A bit apprehensive on arrival as didn’t seem ready for service and a bit basic However the landlady was very friendly and helpful. We ordered chili with chips, the curry and a toasted sandwich. Wonderful tasty food. Very impressed and so glad we stopped Lost a star for ambience but we made our own. £28 for three meals and three drinks which is in line with most pubs

We cycled through Pendeen and stopped at every pub for a drink. All the pubs were lovely except this one! As I opened the door into the lounge area I was attacked by a large ferocious dog ... it’s bark was not worse than it’s bite as it nearly took my hand off! I felt it’s teeth in my skin and retreated quickly. Thank goodness this wasn’t a child coming in. There was no apology from the staff, they were more disgruntled that I had disturbed the dog and locked the door to the room. Meanwhile in the bar the landlady was busy arguing with one of the locals who wanted to go into the lounge area to watch the cricket. The dog obviously ruled this place! Aside from this, the pub was dirty and smelt damp and musty. It is not somewhere I would ever step into again.

The reviews already on here sum it up. Nice people but it needs a really great of clean. There is years of dog hair on the stairs and the carpets all needed a good vacuuming. There is only one bathroom for all of the rooms upstairs (4) so if it was busy it could be tough. We did not eat here as the aroma of stale cooker oil was not great. The breakfast was really good. Full English with cereals and juice and good tea. Bed was comfy enough - it all just did not feel clean! Super cheap though for 2 it was 20 pounds. So not recommended but ok if there is nothing else which is where we landed!

Have popped into this pub a number of times over the years whilst visiting the area. Often it is for a beer - and they do have some nice ales. I've eaten there a couple of times and have to say the menu is a little limited and uninspiring. It's a good venue to catch a football match being screen live and it is a dog friendly pub.

We went to this pub on the promise (via notes in our holiday cottage) of good pizzas. But the very short menu had none. Pub itself best described as 'tired' - in need of a good clean and renewal of upholstery. Smelled of stale cooking oil. Beer good, though, and food (we resorted to burger + chips and scampi + chips) was OK. But the place was very quiet. Manager seemed more interested in the TV in the lounge than the customers.

A very quiet, quaint, 'olde worlde' family-run pub with sea views from the outside tables. In winter there is always a log fire in the small bar, which has memorabilia from the local tin mining industry hanging from the beams. The main bar has many photographs of local shipwrecks which are most interesting. The bar menu is not extensive, but what there is is very good, locally sourced wholesome food. When available, mother's home-made green tomato chutney is absolutely superb, it goes very nicely with a ploughman's lunch and is highly recommended, as are their beef burgers with chips and moules mariniere which we have had on previous visits.

Based on the reviews I read on here, I chose this pub for a meal out with my friends. The atmosphere was ok, a bit more run down inside than it looked outside though. The staff were really welcoming and we couldn't fault the service. The barmaid was really chatty and attentive which made a real difference. Our only issue was the food. A couple of us ordered steak which should be pretty safe, but we got really fatty overcooked minute steaks and anaemic chips. The rest of the group who had different dishes were all pretty disappointed too. We're not a bunch of snobby Londoners, we were visiting from Devon and are used to decent country pub grub. Sadly we didn't get the chance to visit any other pubs in the village, so we can't recommend any others, but I'd try a different pub before you try the Radjel for food.

We love the Radjel. It is a down to earth, friendly, family run pub and it shows. They serve really tasty home-cooked food with the best handcut proper chips this side of the Tamar. When my Dad is asked what he wants to do when he comes to Cornwall he always says "have ham, egg and chips at the Radjel" My husband is a life member of CAMRA and he says the beer is always very well kept. He has to keep testing it to make sure (his excuse and he is sticking to it!) but he has had nothing but great beer there for 6 years. The Wednesday Quiz is a hoot, welcome to everyone, visitors and locals but be warned, the locals are good.Special mention also to a delicious and really good value Sunday roast at £7.50.If you want heritage paint colours and gastropub fancy meals and prices, stay away but if you like a traditional local pub with great value food and beer (and two dart boards and a snooker table!) then this is your kind of pub.Incidentally- a 'Radjel' is a Cornish word not in the dictionaries. The very fine pub sign by a gifted Cornish signwriter, Andrew Grundon who does many of the St Austell signs shows you what it means

We decided to try this pub for lunch and we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the menu was varied and reasonably priced, my choice was a chicken curry, Naan bread and rice, but I preferred chips and the landlady was happy to accommodate my indulgence.Husband felt like fish and chips, it came with salad and homemade tartar sauce, the fish was very good, but could have been cooked a little longer as the batter had a 'soggy bottom' ! The meals were delicious apart from the 'soggy bottom' , the curry was just as I like it and the chips to our taste.I would not hesitate to recommend to eat here, the atmosphere friendly, the menu varied. It is a no nonsense pub, just what you need if you are a walker or just passing through this village to visit the Geevor Tin Mine, which is well worth a visit.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.
