Gone down hill since new owners

Went in this morning for breakfast disorganised food was cold eggs were in a square bowl all stuck together and cold bacon cold, no plates new plates cold not impressed, very dirty with food under the table, chairs are worn and scruffy, not impressed lots of customers complaining.

Absolutely shocking place… Service was terrible, food was expectant for a weekend campsite with no cooking abilities… hardly anything was available off the menu… and the atmosphere and attitude of front of house staff was seriously lacking and questionable… I’m surprised they are still in business… the only reason we ate here (breakfast & Dinner) was because we had a food deal with the Premier Inn, never again!

Absolutely abysmal was refused service because not booked in the hotel. Was only 2 of us and wanted food and drinks but was refused because we wasn't staying at the hotel and there was only 2 members of staff working. Absolutely disgusting

Unfortunately as I understand the Liskeard Tavern is closing down in July.

Made a booking, received confirmation via email. Travelled 25mins with 3 hungry kids, to be rudely told on arrival we are not taking bookings or walk-ins and that we couldn’t have booked. We could wait possibly 30mins but they couldn’t tell us how long. How else do you get a table? Needless to say we walked. We used to like this place, never again!

Arrived to find this pub/restaurant is to close on 4 Aug. By then I had already paid for 7 nights premier inn Meal deals. The staff were very friendly but obvious under pressure due to staff shortages. The restaurant has definitely see better days. A large section of the menu was unavailable due to a broken grill. Still out of action 5 days later probably as the place is closing. On the night before our last we had dinner and was then advised the restaurant would close at 6 the following night which would be a disaster if you had a table booked for that evening but didn’t know it was closed until you turned up for your table. Even now it is possible to book the premier inn with meal deals for a restaurant that won’t exist

Good food and very quick service until we wanted to pay. Staff very helpful up until we wanted our bill then took a little while as they were busy with other tables

There were quite a few items unavailable, so the menu was limited. There was food and other bits of debris on the floor. It was busy but the waiter was very good 👍

This place used to be a great place to go and always booked a table when family came down. However last Sunday I booked a table for 4 for 19:30 the table was booked a week in advance. When we arrived it took ages for anyone to even acknowledge us the place was a mess with it looked like only 4 staff serving. When we were eventually seen we were told there was a 40 minute wait on food and we would probably not see a server at our table for at least 40 minutes and to cap it off we were then told "Oh and we close at 9pm!! The excuse being the ordering system had taken too many orders and they couldn't cope. There was hardly anyone there just loads of empty tables. As my sister had traveled over 100 miles to visit us we were hoping for a leisurely 3 course meal and chance to catch up but we had to leave as they couldn't even promise us we would even get a starter before they closed. Absolutely terrible service.

Very very poor, greeted by a female asked if they are serving food said yes in the bar area, sat down, looked at the menu, went to the bar , they said they are not serving food. Not happy told the female about this , said she wasn't bothered and she didn't care. Not happy at all.

Last night there was an extremely rude and loud bunch of Travellers in the place. They were so annoyingly loud that I had to move off my table and walk accross the building and sit by the bar. I overheard one of the group talk about some of the physical characteristics of another man who was just having a quiet drink with his girlfriend. All I wanted was a quiet drink after work. They were clearly up for a fight! Generally the place is alright but I don't think that the staff are very nice to one another either and it certainly came accross last night. One of the female bar staff was getting snidey comments from another female member of staff and was worried about loosing her job. They serve good drink and although I've not eaten there it does look nice so I can't be too hard on the place as it's got it's good points as well. The atmosphere is the main issue in my opinion.

We had a party of 20 booked for dinner lastnight for a birthday treat, we were asked to pre order our meals even though we still waited an hour and a half for our meals to come out. My 12 year old son had the burger and chips, I had the steak and ale pie which I found pastry very over done and hard to cut through. My son was very poorly throughout the night he was being sick, I thought at first maybe it was a bug but he then informed me that his burger was very pink inside which I was unaware of . Not good enough at all and won’t be returning

It used to be a semi-regular activity for the family to go for a short walk on Saturday morning, ending up at the Tavern for a pint and a light bite. Not today (Saturday). Turned up and there was no bar food service, so we tried to get a table. No tables for lunch other than the pre-bookings; they weren't fully- booked, they just wouldn't take any more. Apparently this is because their management is incapable of dealing with, or indifferent to the issue of staff retention. I'm giving two stars rather than one because it still remains a decent venue for an evening family meal. I just hope it will stay that way way.

Second visit to the liskeard tavern, last visit was October 2023, tonight I picked a night when they had some complications with the beer pumps and soft drinks, but the staff were very accommodating and Kirstin certainly made us all feel like we were VIP's have dined at many establishments with my work, obviously the food has to be good for a return visit, but equally you need to be made welcome and Kirstin did just that! sense of humour is definitely needed in a restaurant and she had just that, just ask for the "smothered chicken without the double" and the response is very unexpected but equally hilarious! will be back soon for a more clever quips and good food

We had 2 visits here as we stayed in the Premier Inn next door. Our experience at the evening meal was good the staff very helpful and the food okay. Our breakfast experience was not as good. The staff didn't explain the breakfast set up as in previous premises attached to a Premier Inn. The hot food service area and the pastry section were not replenished, and when requested, a portion of poached eggs and a portion of scrambled eggs. It took over 15 minutes and a secondary reminder for the eggs to be served up by that time most of our hot food was consumed.

The meal was great, the beer flowed and atmosphere was really nice! the lovely server Kirstin was absolutely amazing!! we pestered her quite regularly about menu/allergens etc and nothing was to much trouble for her!! LISKEARD TAVERN take note! you have a truly wonderful server in Kirstin do what it takes to keep her!! we will be back for the banter and food soon!

We visited on Easter Sunday for lunch and were not disappointed! We booked online as we knew it would be busy! There was a constant flow of guests but no delays, staff did a great job! Food was delicious! A wonderful set menu that included a prawn cocktail - my husbands favourite! Lovely roast beef! Molly was incredible! She’d lost her voice and was doing a brilliant job running her section of the restaurant! We were on holiday in Cornwall, if we are back in the area we would definitely visit again!

Went there for lunch today. The place was almost empty, phone ringing and not answered, no visible staff, took lady about 5 mins to come and speak to us !! No 'sorry to keep you waiting' just, no meals being served today as we don't have a chef. The general manager will cook for you if you've booked.

The service was so slow waited over an hour for are food and it really wasn't busy to justify the wait. Food turned up wasn't great. Won't be back again

Second time in a week that I've visted the Tavern the 1st (Friday 29th march ) it was ok. I had a prawn cocktail & the soup, which were both fine. Hubby had the smothered platter it had a sprinkling of cheese , definitely not smothered. Last night ( 4th April ) 4 of us went for dinner. It was busy so wasn't expecting quick service which was fine by us but nearly 2 hours for food to come out was ridiculous, & when it came it was awful. We had.... Hunters chicken, the chicken was squelchy with a strip of fatty bacon & under cooked chips. Chicken & ham pie & mash . The thin layer of mash had definitely been left under the heat lamp for a long time ... Had to ask for some gravy it was that dry. Gammon & egg , the gammon was burnt, eggs hard & chips under cooked. scampi , chips & mushy peas, the scampi was fine , chips under cooked & mushy peas had also been sat under the heat lamp for ages , they had a dry crust on them! Every meal was litrally chucked on a plate, no nice presentation If it wasn't for the fact we had waited so long for the food & was all hungry the whole lot would have been sent back. Bella our waitress was lovely & very apologetic, we did get free desert (which took another 40 mins to arrive) & 25% off the meal which we were greatful for, but we won't be back in a hurry

Would have given more stars, as the food was lovely and Kirstin our server was amazing! However they seem to be extremely understaffed and the waiting times were poor.

Very disappointed went in waited 20 minutes to be served . Ordered mains at same time as starters 45 minutes after starters still waiting for mains no one came over to see if we were ok or waiting for anything . I got up and went to young lady who Said she would check oh and came back with 5 minutes just playing up . Another 10 minutes later was about to get up to go it arrived no gravy ,plates were cold and the whole meal was cold . Paid for what we had already had and left . We are very local and the tavern depends on locals when holiday makers have gone home , but I’m afraid it will be a very long time if I visit there again if at all . It was for my husbands was we’ll absolutely gutted 😞 very poor

Slow service - took 1 hour for meal to be served and not that busy. Breakfast opened 6:30am yet most hot food not ready until 7am - no apology or urgency (staff more interested in chatting out back and making drinks for themselves)

Great lunch stop in the way down through Cornwall on Saturday afternoon. Service was great and friendly (molly), prices pretty cheap and food was very good! (Sirloin steak and beef pie - see pics)

Booked a table for two for Easter Sunday weeks in advance. On entrance, met with unfriendly staff member who appeared to forget how to smile. Menus just left thrown on the entrance table, looked a complete mess. Staff member then walked off, only to find out she had walked to our table having expected us to follow without saying anything. We sat down, chose our meals from the set menu and waited for a staff member to take our order. A pleasant waitress took our drinks order and shortly returned to take our food order; what followed was a complete joke. “We’ll have the roasts please” was immediately followed by “We have none of those left”. It’s Easter Sunday, pre booked weeks in advance, having looked forward to that exact meal. No one told us on entry that Roasts had run out, and we’re sat there waiting having no clue they’d turn our order away. Having sat at our table for about 15 minutes before being told this, I reckon we heard 2 tables within earshot complaining directly to staff. Absolute shambles, will not be visiting this restaurant again, if you can even call it that.

We arrived slightly early for our booking but were seated straight away with a warning that they had 2 large parties in with an hours wait or so on food. Our waitress Kristin couldn’t have been more helpful! Checking in with us throughout the evening making sure we had drinks and updating us with our food orders. Well worth the visit and we will be visiting again!

Well stayed at the premier inn attached, which the staff are amazing. WARNING ... cannot just turn up and eat, need table booking well in advance. This is slightly frustrating when you can't plan ahead of time and know what your doing when visiting family. We was informed you could order to takeaway to your premier inn room but when we went to order 1 burger for my elderly 90 year old nan who needs to eat to take her tablets, they point blank refused and would not help at all. Not all the tables were full and the pub seemed half full. It's such a shame that they don't try to help at all.

Firstly booked online and upon arrival they could not find our booking. However after approx a 20 minute wait we were seated (The place was quiet) After being sat for approx 15 minutes a waitress came to take our order including drinks. The menu stated a three course meal for £19.99 however no roast dinners were available and this was not mentioned until we tried to order. Once the order was taken we waited 30 minutes for drinks and a further 20 minutes for our starter. The starter arrived luke warm at best. The waitress collected the plates etc from our starter and asked if we were ready for our mains. 45 minutes later our mains arrived and was not even Luke warm. 20 minutes after the mains had finished no one came to clear plates or take the orders for dessert. Therefore we ordered from the bar and was told desert would be approx 30 minutes. All in all nearly three hours for a three course set menu meal. Which at best was mediocre. I could understand if the place was busy however it was not. Clearly not enough staff and poor management. Certainly will not be returning.

Visited today as group of 9. Booked the table for 2:30. No one to greet you at a messy desk. Not told to put your car registration in the tablet, lucky we saw it! We were 10 minutes early and the staff member greeting seemed annoyed at this and told us we could wait at the bar and get a drink and “hopefully” the table we are meant to be having will leave? Well, we booked a table so this isn’t the language she should be choosing, nor should we be made to feel like we are a nuisance for turning up to a pre-booked meal! Not shown to our table, we eventually went and sat ourselves down! Got our own drinks from the bar, had to ask for menu and cutlery. Waitress was polite and friendly who took our order. However, starters came out after about 40 minutes later? Then our mains took over half hour. We arrived at 2:15, an hour and a half later we finally ate!! The food came out warm and correct orders etc. But we had to ask for our table to be cleared after our starters and tell them we are ready for our mains! Never told there would be a delay, in the kitchen or asked if we want anymore drinks etc. Really poor! I will be telling people to avoid going here and hopefully it will change hands as this place has a lot of potential to be decent! Is it management? Lack of staff? I’m not sure, what I am sure of is that this is not good enough for people’s hard earned money. Going out to eat is a nice thing to do and have people leaving fed up and fobbed off isn’t good enough. Sat straight away. drinks took a long time to come out. Although we had booked we then told. Run out of roast. Starter was over cooked. Main course was cold. Dessert was churros with were rock hard. We were there nearly 3 hours. The place was nearly empty

Arrived seated and drinks order taken service was impeccable. Had a fabulous meal on the offer available and Ian was our waiter, a very good waiter. All in all a fantastic experience great food what a pleasant surprise. My expectations were more than met but exceeded. Cannot praise enough.

The worst place I’ve been to. We had not booked a table however came in early and gave plenty of time to the waitress to organise booked tables. We were told to wait in the bar and we’d be collected soon. After waiting for an hour with no offer or a drink, food or at best a table, we decided to leave. While waiting, two members of staff were shouting about hours and slagging off management highlighting how unprofessional liskeard tavern actually is. The old woman who made us wait at the counter before we even got a look in was rude, patronising and had the attitude of someone who doesn’t care. We will not be going here again.

My teenage daughter came here with a couple of friends and had such a lovely time. She is very shy and this was her first time doing something like this. She said that the waitress was really lovely and kind to her. I checked the receipt and the waitresses name is Sarah. Thankyou for helping to give the girls such an enjoyable evening.

Overall food was ok. Waited 10-15 minutes at main desk in entrance to be seated, it wasn't very busy 2pm on a Tuesday afternoon. 3 members of staff on. Woman comes to the desk "are you stopping, do you want a table" we've not just waited here nearly 15 minutes for nothing! Food was fine. Two members of staff having crossed words/argument over when he could have his break, the entitlement, him being late to work, him saying he'll go on his break whether he can or not etc. Just needs to be discussed back of house not shouted across the restaurant. Disabled toilet out of action, other toilets up two flights of stairs.

The restaurant and bar were both under staffed The drink prices were over priced The food, well we have had better in Wetherspoons The staff all three of them worked really well but we felt sorry for them as they worked flat out It was not a busy evening. A Monday in March The disabled toilet was out of order, and even after speaking to the manager one of our party that was in a wheelchair was unable to use it, so we had to end the evening It is a good venue that Liskeard needs but sadly the food and over priced drinks let it down

Would give 0 stars if i could. Myself my partner and 2 children booked a table for 8pm, ordered food at 8;15 and come 10pm food was not brought to us. After asking where our food was we was told the kitchen is now closed and we dont get our food after 2 hours of waiting, staff was extremely un helpful and told us basically its not their problem and theres nothing theu can do. Molly was extremely cocky and snotty with us. Avoid this place at all cost!

Drinks and food were of great quality and could not find a fault, Would definitely return solely because of Kirsty! She is extremely attentive whilst not being intrusive. Constantly had a smile on her face, and absolutely embodies customer service through and through. A real credit to the company.

Have just returned home after having dinner at the Liskeard Tavern. My wife and I took our son and his partner for a birthday meal. Staff were very pleasant and polite especially Kirstin who was serving our table. She has a brilliant sense of humour...

Second time of staying here (premier inn next door) the Liskeard Tavern just as good as last time of visiting (2023) food hot and varied and didn't have to wait long for it,as others have said yes it could probably do with a few more...

Thought I would give the place another chance as haven't been there for a long time, due to previously poor and lengthy service. I should of stayed away. Waited 30 mins to take drinks order. Similarly long wait for food. Waited 30 mins for dessert and gave up. Told them to remove dessert, paid for the starters and mains and left..... total time of two hours.

If I could have rated my experience with no stars then I would have. Shocking from start to finish. Booked to take my disabled mum out for a meal. On arrival found out that the loos didn't have a lock so would need to 'stand guard' outside. 20 minutes later, had our drinks order taken. 40 minutes had our drinks - but only because we went to the bar to collect them ourselves. Our starters came out after an hour, but once finished there was literally 10 minutes before main course served. Most dishes were cold. Any further drinks orders we had to go straight to the bar. They kindly brought out the birthday cake but because they were so busy chattingfor 5 minutes (we timed) the candles had melted on the cake. Of course we had to clear our own tables of dirty plates because they were so busy cleaning empty tables. Then find out that we needed to enter reg in tablet so probably will get a fine!!! Signs not lit, rubbish notice on door (that we didn't see because it was being held open for us, and the tablet hidden in a corner behind where you come in to be 'greeted' - shame they didn't say at that point. All in all absolutely rubbish service and food. Will not be going back.

Terrible service - arrived and ordered 3 courses for 4 people - starters arrived with the main course and were told they can't do anything about that and left both on the table ( mains were cold by the time the starters were eaten ) then after chasing up for the deserts 4 times over 45 mins - I asked for a refund of deserts , wich then they were trying to deliver / find the deserts and reluctant to refund.... I am a returning customer and highly disappointed with todays antics - seems nobody there knows what they are doing !!! Could be a fantastic place with plenty of room if there were sensible staff there running it.

We went for a meal last night (5 people) served our drinks in 15 min and order taken. Unfortunately then waited over 1 hr to then be told one dish was off the menu !!! 10 mins later all food arrive. Food was ok and our menu was reduce by the replaced dish . Service was friendly I would not go there again due to such a long wait for food .

honestly the slowest and most unenthusiastic staff ever, the young blonde waitress was lovely but the rest were rude about a customer’s needs and the food took a genuine eternity to come out. very disappointing overall, and a nasty experience with the manager surrounding a birthday dessert.

I recently had a delicious, fresh and perfectly cooked smothered platter followed by a very yummy triple chocolate brownie and ice cream. I found the staff very welcoming and friendly creating a good atmosphere. Would highly recommend a visit !

Awful and understaffed service for a weekend and half-term!!! I've never seen a Saturday night in the table table restaurant so poorly run! Most the staff kept their roles good..one young girl behind the bar though...poor customer service skills didnt acknowledge my friend waiting at...

We have had some nice roasts here, but unfortunately, yesterday, it was awful. It came out cold. We sent it back to be warmed, and it must have just had gravy put on as the food was still cold. I wouldn't recommend going to this place for a Sunday Roast

Food good as was service. We went on 2 occasions for breakfast, first time was excellent, 2nd time was busier and they ran out of a lot of the food. They forgot to order my vegetarian items so was kept waiting while rest of the party were eating what they could from the little that was left at the all you can eat buffet breakfast!

Smiley, happy faces from meet & greet / service to final goodbyes. Nothing was too much trouble for them even though they were clearly understaffed !! I was exhausted watching them, they never stopped !! Why do big companies do this to fantastic members of staff, stop penny pinching and give the poor guys some help !! They were doing an amazing job under adverse conditions, for which you should be very proud of them ! Customers with no bookings queued up to get a table, because this is a lovely, friendly restaurant with the best A team - Ian, Dianne & Fran. We were served by Kelly. Very good service, very courteous and happy to help. Great food, with a half price meal deal before 18:00, on a weekday.

Drink and food was great couldn’t knock the prices either and very helpful people If they don’t mind me mentioning their names Bella and molly. Very welcoming and helpful especially when asking about the vegetarian menu.

Dined here in the evening as I was staying next door at the Premier Inn. I was quickly seated and served by the lovely Ian, who made me feel comfortable and well looked after. My dinner was served quickly and with a smile, Ian’s service was attentive and friendly! Food was good, I have eaten in Whitbread’s before and it’s always of a decent standard.

Excellent customer service provided by Ian, he was very pleasant and looked after us very well. Food served promptly, hot and very tasty.

We have just been in for our evening meal my husbands steak was fantastic thanks to Stewart. We where served our meal from Ian he is amazing cant do enough for you. We was also served by Kelly who is also amazing. Both Ian and Kelly are both friendly and nice nothing is too much for them even in the busy times. We met the new manager Shane he was very welcoming and we have noticed the difference in there since he has taken over. A great atmosphere with great staff. Credit to you all.

Called in on our way home and was pleasantly surprised. Food was lovely and our server Ian was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely return and recommend.

Fantastic Breakfast this morning Saturday 3rd Feb. Amazing service. New manager doing a wonderful job.

Nice pub attached to Premier Inn. Tables nicely spaced. Efficient friendly staff without being in your face. We were served by the lovely Diane who had a wonderful sense of humour. We will definitely visit again when we pass. Great value food.

Why do people assume it's OK to take dogs into a facility intended for humans to eat? That asside. They are obviously understaffed here and given that they do a great job both in service and in quality of fare. This is not a gourmet...

Hard working staff, good food and a friendly atmosphere. The staff go out of their way to make sure you feel valued. Had several meals at the Tavern and always arrives hot and delicious, with the added bonus that the waiting staff have a smile.

We went for a family meal. They couldn't even get the drinks right, the coke was like sparkling water with a slice of lemon. The water was ok tho I suppose. We waited nearly an hour and the food and it still didn't arrive so we left. It was a complete joke, if we wanted jokes we'd have gone to a comedy club. Never again!

Taking my Dad out of hospital for the first time after his stroke. Staff (Ian) and customers incredibly supportive and accommodating. Helped make this a lovely lunch.

The food is reasonable, 2 meals for £11.99 can't be grumbled at I suppose, and good value for pensioners!..
