Rachel's in West Dorset

Had a seafood platter, outstanding fresh seafood. Enough for 3 of us excellent value will definitely be going back.

Oh wow! That was lovely. Easy to book on the phone and a warm welcome. Seating is all outside but the food was hot. My partner chose fish stew which was rich and delicious, with prawns, white fish and mussels. I had smoked haddock chowder - a huge bowl full of goodness including tasty fish, leeks, potatoes and creamy sauce. Both served with fresh hunks of bread by the friendly and efficient team. Also no trouble from seagulls…..

Without doubt, the best fresh seafood we have tasted forever. We would give Rachel's 10 out of 5 if we could for the quality of the food, the wonderful staff and owners, the incredible value for money food and the whole experience. The seating is all outside and you can/should book a table if you don't want to miss out. The seafood stew is to die for, the seafood/prawn platter is amazing and if you want the very best ever fish and chips then go to Rachel's Thank you and we hope you have a well earned rest during the Winter months ready for our return next year. Not closed yet until sometime in October. I guess Barbados would be your next opening but take another look at Wakefield !!!!!!!!!

Fresh fish and friendly staff. We had a takeaway and sat by the pier. The food was well presented and was perfect for a lazy sunny lunch. Highly recommended

So another review of Rachel’s , they don’t need it really as nothing changes. Year on year it’s always the same best experience, service, value for money and seafood that you then regret not going a 100 times more before they shut for the winter. The only difference this year was it never rained, not that it spoils it when it does. Everything on the menu is just the best.

Lovely spot for a light lunch, we came here for a day out at West Bay,we came to this cafe for lunch, and enjoyed our food. The staff were helpful and lovely, we would recommend

Very good food at reasonable prices. The only one negative was that we were plagued by wasps, but this is no fault of the restaurant!

Meh "Crab" too salty. Prawns nor fresh. Good location; watch out for the sun.

We four adults and two children had evening fish and chips and one Calamari. Food was fresh cooked hence a short wait served by friendly staff

No sign to let you know you had to pre book. So after choosing what to have and queing up only to be met with a not very friendly annoyed look and “ not taking walk - ins”. I went next door where the people were friendly and where I will buy from again.

Stopped for coffee and breakfast. The sun was shining and a great spot to enjoy a quality breakfast with the view to the harbour.

This is a shout out for Rubicon, Pop Up Kitchen when Rachel's team is taking a break. In my opinion, just as good.

Had a fish and chips and a prawn platter. Fish was amazing and the salad with the prawns was great. The rest of the prawn platter was ok. But the food is fresh and worth the wait

Lucky to get a table on the last day of their season. Far earlier than we would choose to eat but so glad we did, especially as it was such a beautiful day to sit outside. Exceptionally warm and friendly welcome and service. We chose fish and chips and the fish stew. Chips were outstanding and the fish flavoursome with a very delicate batter. The fish stew was outrageously good and I probably bored my partner rigid with saying so after every mouthful. Would happily drive the 4 hours to experience Rachel’s again.

Great for a quick bite to eat after a long walk. Had the mussels - well prepared, fresh and flavoursome sauce. The Salt & pepper squid was very nice too.

I was expecting quality seafood. I had crab salad, whilst my partner had fisherman’s trio (crab, prawns and mackerel pate). Both came with salad. My goodness, I was expecting good quality seafood, but the salads were just perfect too. Fresh, crispy, perfectly seasoned and a perfect balance to the seafood. The chips and bread were good too. We had a table booked for noon and were glad that we did have. All tables were taken. I’m very glad that we didn’t miss out.

The best place to eat and drink around westbay harbour. Never had a bad experience. Vist time and again every time we holiday in westbay.

Very good food - fish soup and seafood platter at reasonable prices. Seating is on benches right by the harbour. The only problem is that they close too early.

Lucky enough to have found this little shack near the beach and what a find!! Ate here twice. The fish and chips are the best I have ever tasted and the Smoked Haddock Chowder is AMAZING!!!!! Well done all at Rachel’s for serving up such delicious food 😋

It was OK and not worthy of complaint but to be honest, I was expecting better given they're the no. 1 ranked fish restaurant in Dorset. We had much better fish and chips in Mevagissey the day before. Rachel's chips are just standard frozen fare and the cod was small and slightly undercooked. Tbh I was hoping there would be some plain and simple grilled fish on the menu. The fish and chips from next door looked lovely typically, nice and thick piece of cod. The chowder was nice and had a good amount of haddock in it.

We went for Dinner last night 4 off us and the Fish & Chips was Disgusting , very thick butter and undercooked, it wasn’t the food we been hoping and paid for it

I went to this place after reading reviews on Google when we were on holiday. It was amazing food, we had a fish and chips and a fish finger sandwich and it was amazing. The fish finger sandwich was not what we were expecting, it was proper fresh fish in a light batter. Was delicious and I saw all the other seafood options being made up like the mussels and lobster and it looked amazing. Right by the harbour too, I think you have to reserve a table however the hut next door to them was shut so we sat on those benches to eat. It was very busy and that's because the food is amazing. Definitely highly recommend.

I absolutely loved crab sandwich and side salads. I did not like taste of chips and shrimps. Fish that my husband ordered wasn't special too. I did not went there again.

It’s a been a year since writing a review and whilst Rachel’s gets the best reviews, I can’t help myself to add another 5 star absolute top notch review for staff, food and service. Also a couple of photos to. The rain was pouring and we got soaked sat at the tables but who cares, we had best service and seafood you could wish for. Same quality every time we visit, just yum!

Absolutely delicious. Fresh and great value. We shared the platters and enjoyed every mouthful! Homemade mackerel pate, crab and prawn cocktail were amazing. It made a salad seem so much more exciting! Tempera prawns and giant prawns were so tasty.

Yesterday I visited Rachel's for the second time and my visit confirmed it really is a very special place to eat. We'd booked ahead, which was a good move as there were no unreserved tables left. (People who arrived on spec were advised that a takeaway would mean a wait of up to an hour and it's a testimony to Rachel's well deserved reputation that they were willing to wait, despite all the alternative eateries nearby) As a vegetarian, I had less choice on the menu, but my Greek salad was excellent and I really liked the addition of new potatoes. My seafood loving friend said her Fisherman's Trio was absolutely delicious. We had a very good white wine with our food and espresso afterwards. Service was very friendly and efficient. Even a typical British summer shower that meant we ate part of our lunch in kaghouls with our hoods up couldn't spoil a lovely lunch.

A bit disappointed with the chowder. A lot of leek & potatoes. Might be good but didn’t work for me. The tempura prawns & salad with it were good.

Booked a couple of days earlier. We both had the fisherman’s trio, can’t fault it for quality. The mackerel was excellent, also had crab and prawns on the plate, a delicious salad and good quality bread. Whilst we had drinks, we’d finished them as the meal came and staff offered and then brought us cups of water. Excellent value for money. We could see the sharing seafood platter, looked great, just too much in quantity for us. Staff super friendly. We’re holidaying in Dorset and it will go on the must visit next time. Definitely knocks spots off your fancy restaurants ! Wish I’d taken a photo ..

Amazing haddock, and I love the fact that they don't use plastic cutlery and foam boxes for takeaway, thank you!! Truly appreciated 👍 Tempura is amazingly crunchy and gluten free 😃 (although not suitable for very sensitive people as the frying station isn't). But please warn your customers about flying seagulls... I wasn't aware of them and they stole my fish&chips only after few bites 🤦

We've been wanting to have lunch here for ages, this week we eventually made it and worth the wait it was! After phoning to say we were running slightly late, we were greeted by a lovely friendly lady (should have asked if this was Rachel!) Fortunately after a downpour, the rain had just stopped & we were seated at a table looking over the harbour. We both chose a bottle of Hunts cider, one of our favourites, and the Fisherman's Trio. This was simply excellent! Couldn't fault it at all! Beautifully prepared and presented, we enjoyed tasty prawns, crab & smoked mackerel pate. The salad was amazing too...any chance of the recipe for your coleslaw?!😉 All this was served with generous chunks of lovely fresh bread. The gentleman that bought our food was extremely friendly & checked everything was OK on a couple of occasions, it was just like restaurant service, but very informal, relaxed and attentive. Would we return? Try stopping us! Thank you to everyone at Rachel's for a fantastic lunch🙂

Rachel's is a wonderful little place in Westbay. The calamari is exceptional and I look forward to it every year when we visit on holiday! I had the fishcakes recently and they were excellent. The staff are very friendly. It gets very busy so we often get something to take away and then go along the seafront.

Ordered a fish finger sandwich to take away as they were fully booked for lunch. It was incredible. Four huge pieces of battered cod. One didn’t fit in the sarnie so was placed on the side. Staff were lovely too.

Easy to book over the phone for the following week, got a reserved table in the shade. The food was absolutely delicious, very reasonably priced and excellent cheerful service.

A fantastic lunch here today! Brilliant fish of the day (really crispy and tasty) and a simply lovely haddock chowder plus some tempura prawns on the side and naturally a bottle of rose to go with it!
