Awful service, it’s almost as if they despise customers. Hope they get new ownership soon.

Great night. My pal's 50th birthday bash.

Vile manager/ landlady It is rare that I write a review but I was so disgusted by the demeanour and outright hostility from the manager that I wanted to ensure that visiting customers knew the type of service they would be receiving. On the website, the pub advertises a “friendly atmosphere.”This could not be further from the truth. The manager greeted us with a snare and almost begrudgingly poured our drinks. Our children went outside and were immediately told to go inside and sit down. We were then told that if the children got out of their seats we would be asked to leave. It was a particularly windy night and one of the plant pits blew over. The landlady then sat whispering to the locals and pointing at us all. She later remarked that the children had knocked them over. This is not the first time this pub has come under scrutiny with regards to the manager. In the previous week another of our friends had visited for their Xmas party. Needless to say they won’t be returning!!!

Awful place!! By far the rudest manager I have ever met !!! The landlady should think of a new career that doesn’t involve working with people.

The manager and her staff really need to be trained in customer service! They really fall short! Need to overhaul how they treat paying customers.

Awful. We got thrown out for not accepting homophones abuse. We are all straight but questioned the use of "fagot and bumboys"The owners sided withe the aggressive locals and physically shoved us out of the pub. No aggression shown from us but we were thrown out... disgusting.

We went in here on a Saturday lunchtime for a meal. We walked past the bar and got no acknowledgement from the barmaid at all. So we sat down at a table and I went to the bar to get a menu and was very abruptly told "we don't serve food" so I replied "I thought I saw a sign outside for Sunday lunch offer" and again got a very blunt reply "we don't do food on Saturday" so I said ok but was not impressed at all by a complete lack of politeness or service. On the way out we noticed a sign right next to the Sunday lunch offer saying "Food served Tuesday to Sunday". What with the atrocious service and completely wrong sign we certainly won't be going here again.

Had a great roast dinner the swingers menu was excellent 4 meats And plenty too Food Was excellent And the gravy just right. As usual great staff And service 3 set of couple Ans everyone love the food. great value for money

Such a shame used to be a lovely pub years ago with great food. However visited recently and thought it was really poor but I think the worst part is the service the Eastern European lady is incredibly rude. Could be such a lovely pub in the village. It’s a shame, hopefully new owners can come in and bring life back into it so we don’t end up with another empty building

Had a lovely family lunch over a Premier League match on a Sunday recently. Friendly and attentive service, lively atmosphere and tasty food. Will definitely return!!

We arrived on a wet night to be out of the rain and get something to eat.We possibly pikked the wrong place. On entering the place we turned left, into the saloon bar. Perhaps we should have gone right, into the lounge. But who makes the diference, these days? Drinks were fine, food was mediocre, locals were terrible. Any publican should put these loadmouthing drunks outside, to cool down in the rain. But perhaps they are too important in ensuring the continuing existence of the pub.

The food was excellent, the staff who served nice, welcoming, kind, the atmosphere was dreamy, especially as the England national football team was playing in the world championship. Everything superlative.

The chicken noodles were very good. Was not able to finish it as it was a bit too much. My friends enjoyed their meals as well. Overall an excellent experience. Will definitely be back.

Friendly and efficient staff. Decent size inside with two seperate bars. Cosy feel with lighting especially in winter time. Rear garden with a sheltered area. Quite busy on weekends. Definitely worth a visit....

I thought all places serving roast chicken stock cranberry sauce too but apparently i am wrong! The manager asked how the food was i told her and she said she would tell the chef. Sign outside said Lunch Special but after the group entered the pub were informed that due to the football coverage no food would be served until the late afternoon. Why put the board up outside then? Two of our group stayed as we wanted tea and not to eat and so ordered tea. This was a largish cup with a teabag and hot water with a small milk jug to share between us and we were charged £3 each! While we were there a few other disappointed people came in for lunch and were informed that there wasn't any at the present time The pub was neat and clean with good music in the background. The young lady who served us was helpful and attentive.

Lived in Carshalton for years but never stepped inside the Racehorse. What a great pub. The bar lady on shift tonight was great. Gutted I have been in there sooner. New local for me from now on

Tasty food. Came down with the family for dinner and the food was delicious. The lady working at the bar went through the menu with us and really helped with picking our options. We also had dessert. The banana bread with peanut butter and ice cream was something else. Will definitely be back with the family.

Had a nice meal and enjoyed the quiz night

We came with a couple of friends for a couple of drinks over the weekend and were pleasantly surprised to see they had a live band aswell. Loved the music and had an amazing time for the rest of the night.

The manager of the place ruined our night. We just wanted to have a few drinks. This horrible person rudely shouted in my friends face and forced her to drink her wine and give the glass back. There was absolutely no reason or cause for this kind of behaviour. Absolutely shocking. They talk about their “friendly atmosphere” on their website. What a joke. Won’t be back. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Came in for a beer with some old friends and straight away it was clear they didn’t want us there. They grudgingly served us and we had a couple of beers. As we were just getting ready to leave the person who I assume is the manager of the place came up to the only woman in our company and aggressively got in her face and demanded she finish her drink and give them the glass. This used to be my favourite pub in town and I thought it would be nice to come and support the place, but it appears the current owners don’t want the business. The chatter around town is that the Racehorse isn’t what it used to be and you would be much better off going to The Sun or The Hope. This pub frequently changes hands, when the current owners inevitably fail and sell the business I will come in again and see if they actually give a damn. Such a shame, it used to be a fantastic welcoming place for friends and family. I will be telling all my local friends and family about this experience and I’m sure they will be very disappointed, as many of us have long term connection to this pub.

Rude staff. This place has no soul. It’s a ghost of what it used to be. Shame.

I organised for a wake to be held at the Racehorse today. Beatrice was very helpful and easy to work with regarding menu and portions. The food was varied and a lovely buffet. Very good value for money. One of our party was gluten free and not only did Beatrice assure me that there would be food in the buffet that he could eat but she came out with his own platter of it.

Delicious Sunday roast beef today with all the trimmings. Rang up at 11am got a table for two. Good price too.

Lovely evening in the garden enjoying the sun. Staff were courteous and efficient.

Nice atmosphere and friendly service with karaoke every other Saturday. Also has a garden and car park.

Went here tonight with my fellow zumba dancers for karaoke. What a fabulous atmosphere! Lived in Wallington all my life & never been to this pub before but we will certainly be coming back. Thanks for a great night. xxx

Not a child friendly pub but has a good selection of beer and food menu

Had a lovely time here, staff were lovely and helpful. Had the Sunday roast; it was a solid roast but not the best I've had which is the reasoning behind the 4 stars. Apart from that would recommend this place.

Small friendly pub nice outdoor area

Lovely pub to go and have a drink after work. It's a nice sized place and we were welcomed. The food is very limited and not very well presented. We had a burger and chips and that was literally all we got. There was no additional side salad to make it look presentable. Also whilst nice, the burger sauce was very spicy and personally I wasn't able to finish the burger because of this although my partner loved it. I guess it's a matter of taste but it might have been better to leave it off and serve it on the side. All in all we would go back.

Went for a drink with friends. Just one ale on tap. OK ish, but not the best. Loud, unpleasant atmosphere. Inefficient, inattentive staff - the girl couldn't even work the till, and overcharged - £7.35 for a pint and small diet coke! If your passing, just keep going. Four much better pubs just a few hundred yards away, serving better beer, with pleasant staff. My advice - DON'T GO HERE. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!!!

Had a delicious meal of fish and chips. The fish was perfectly cooked and the batter light and crispy and not greasy. Highly recommended!

I’m not usually a pub person but came across this pub in my local area (Carshalton) which has around 10 pubs and I can honestly say this is by far my favourite one. Has the football on regularly and is such a chilled vibe. It is dog friendly and family-friendly as well with an amazing garden. I now find myself going here once a week with friends because of the amazing service and incredible food. (Looking forward to the new menu this week) I also picked this venue for my mothers birthday they did not charge me to use the venue but asked for a deposit for the food orders. Nicol who helped me with the food menu was amazing and so loving to my godchildren. We had 25 people here for a sit-down dinner and it went perfectly! Everyone complimented the food and the landlady also helped with the decorations which was sweet of her. 25 of us came to 253 pounds for amazing food and amazing service. I couldn’t recommend this place more. The bar staff are amazingly friendly and always talkative. Thank you to Nicol, Alle, Grace, Josh and the chefs for making it a special evening. One she will never forget.

At the time of review, The Racehorse is part of Great British Pubs that has run a free drink promotion from 1 October - 29 October 2020. The pub has refused to offer me this free drink, despite they were mentioned on the webpage as a participating venue. I got nothing, you got the negative review, fair deal.

We had a nice time. However, one star knocked off for ice in wine that I didn't ask for. It was removed instead of giving me a fresh glass. The other is for the worst Guinness poor ever and slightly loud music. No one can mix now, so people do need to be able to talk at a pub. The staff was friendly.

Went in today, the Sunday of the long bank holiday weekend.. The male person who served us had no interest in being friendly or helpful and in fact showed the opposite. If I hadn’t have arranged to meet some friends I would have left immediately....

Not that many people, but the background music is so loud, it is a real turnoff. Won't be going back, as the joy of finding a table and seats without being overcrowded wad spoilt by the music. If you ask me, that's why it was so empty!

Always great service, the chef has changed for Sunday dinners, the new one not as good but still good enough, the menu has changed and the price has gone up which I will monitor but the service from the staff is fantastic.

Quiet pub but nice enough, small and local

Happy New Year! The owners were the best dancers in the place, and then poured everyone in the pub a free glass of prosecco to share at midnight. Everyone was so plastered and hella happy- 10/10 would go there again to celebrate 2021

Family friendly pub with cask ales and great food, prepared by the chef, at reasonable prices. Nice building and decorations. Food is only served until 8PM though, which is fine for families but maybe not for everyone. They also have a tasty lunch menu. It’s become one of my favourite pubs in Carshalton.

Wonderful place for my birthday last Sunday. Great food, lost count of the number of slices of perfectly cooked roast beef on my plate as well as lovely veggies. As proved by the before and after pics here. Helped by very friendly staff as well. A true jewel in the Sunday roast crown.

Under new management Traditional Sunday Lunch, choice of Roasted Meat, Dessert to die and decent serving sizes, you definitely won’t go home hungry, if anything you’ll have enough to take home a doggie bag for an evening sandwich. Can’t fault the service either

Lovely Pub in the heart of Carshalton, Was recently taken over by new management who are doing a fantastic job. Has regular entertainment such as Bands, Singers & Karaoke Nights. Also serves great food and shows sports

We recently held a Wake for my Dad at the Racehorse pub in Carshalton and despite the sad circumstances, all the guests commented on what a lovely gathering we had.

The friendliness and helpfulnes of the staff at this pub can’t be beaten. When we arrived one lunchtime the music was quite loud, so I asked for it to be turned down in order to have a conversation with a hard of hearing friend. This was done immediately and cheerfully. There wasn’t much choice on the menu as the food delivery van hadn’t arrived by one o’clock. On the main menu there were only sausages , fish and chips and one portion of meat pie. Two of us had to have a piece each of battered salmon and cod. I don’t think that battered salmon works, somehow. Because they were obviously short of what we wanted we were given a big plate of fried potato skins with dips, on the house. Delicious! We were also given larger portions of peas and tartare sauce.. The server was so very friendly and cheerful that we couldn’t be cross! The lack of lunchtime food happened last time we visited the pub, so I do think that they need to keep more stock in the fridge. Nevertheless we left feeling cheerful, if a little exasperated.

Great food! Clientele can be sketchy at times, but decent enough place

Had mothers day lunch here with my family. The food was excellent and very reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and there is a warm atmosphere.

Revisited having received an "under new management" flyer through door. Very glad for it as kitchen back open again. We had fish and chips which was superb, staff also definitely putting the character back into the venue. Will revisit again to check out the wider menu.

I remember this pub from year's ago and what they have done to the inside is awful. It's like drinking in a cafeteria, although the staff are pleasant and friendly. The beer is served to cold, which probably explains why the cask marque certificate has lapsed. My advice if you want a decent real ale and traditional pub go to the hope over the road. See my review on that.
